I feel that my personally identifiable information (PII) has been taken from me by moneygram.com using fraudulent or misleading business practices. I attempted to transfer money to my brother using moneygram.com online services. They asked for my name, address, date of birth, last four digits of social, credit card info. and other personal details related to where I lived, went to school, etc. They still would not process my transfer request and required I call their 800 number. Upon doing so, they asked me additional detailed information and told me the transaction should work. I kept them on the line while I tried processing the transfer again. Again it did not work. They then told me that if I registered with them as a member then it would work. So I registered with them and it worked this time (but the transfer was pending). Then I started getting emails telling me I was signed up for moneygram prime and some type of money gram noticing stuff. Hours later I get an email saying the transfer would not process because they needed to verify my identity again. I called the 800 number this time quite angry since the lady on the first phone call told me this would not happen again. They again began to ask me personal questions like when was the last time I saw my brother and whether I intended to send him any more money. Furious, I told them to cancel my transfer request and I also told them I would file a complaint with whomever regulates them, which I did. All this for a transfer of a minor sum. I doubt they are complying with the Payment Card Industry Standards for handling personally identifiable information nor are they meeting fair trade practices. The level of personal detail they insist on having and the information they have access to by my providing my date of birth and social security number is an invasion of privacy and beyond that which should be acceptable. I filed a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission and the State of California Attorney General's Office. They are clearly engaged in deceptive and misleading business practices and are engaged in consumer deception by persuading individuals to register with them (rather than processing payments as a guest), by signing consumers up for services not requested, by misusing and storing private information without adequate security or safeguards and by intruding upon the personal privacy of individuals beyond that which is acceptable industry practice. Just because I am forced to register with them to transfer money should not give them the right to sign me up for services I do not want and have not requested. I see this as a violation of California Business and Professions Code 17200 et seq and 17500 et seq; state of California statutes pertaining to the use, distribution and handling of private information; and, other laws (both state and federal) pertaining to unfair trade practices. If you have had similar or related experiences with moneygram.com, then you have the right to file a complaint online with the Federal Trade Commission (ftc.gov) and with the state of California Attorney General. You can also file a complaint with those states where moneygram is licensed; specifically, the state of New York, and others (look them up on their website--bottom of page). He expected me to know how to do my job without training me properly. The other part of me loves to de-construct what's terribly wrong about it all...and how this is now inextricably linked to the American Experience. This company and store is the worst of Americana. I've been to some Wal Mart's in KS that are just as bad or worse (was camping, and really, in many parts, there's nothing else), but the customer "dis-service," is the worst here in Mountain View. I have seen a cashier AND a manager being very rude, unhelpful and yelling an older woman customer who was just slightly irritated about waiting forever in line and had the audacity to ask a question about a product. Of course the most ignorant of ignorant staffers and "Management" there was clueless about their product. Another unbelievable dis-service was waiting in line for 10 minutes and then having the cahier put up her sign saying that she was closed, forcing about 5 people to wait in another long ass line. This happened twice. I tried to complain to the management but the lines were to damn long in Customer Disservice and it was like a freak show at the circus back there. This is the price paid for those low, low prices. It's disgusting. I do not like this corporation and its culture of cheapness in every form. I went to this Wal-Mart store because it was just so cheap...a dirty little secret. I don't shop here anymore, even though there's one product that they carry in quantity (of course) that i can't get anywhere else. Don't get me started about their parking lot either. I've been approached by beggers and all kinds of ish there not to mention it's a mess, all the time. It is amazing to me that so many immagrants are flocking to this barbaric store like its manna from heaven. This is what we have to offer? It sucks. First, it's Walmart people, don't expect it to be Macy's. I go here knowing its a do or die situation. I am going in knowing I may not make it back out without a disease or a missing appendage. I go in football pads on because everyone shopping here doesn't give a crap about anyone but themselves and will bump, push, trip or assault you. Be prepared for the children. Most parents use the carts as strollers and put their children in them which keeps the monsters caged, but the ones that don't watch out. Remember its Walmart. But tonight's experience was quality. I got my eye glasses there over a year ago, and trust me I didn't go back there because of how I was tricked in to higher prices, but that was before my yelping days. Lets stay focused on tonight's story. I went to get my glasses fixed cause a stem was broken. Of course. The optical department is open, but no one really is there to help you. I got "Fakhria" the magical one with fake blue contacts behind the main desk. She was on the phone when I approached, probably with a customer I thought. Nope. She was sitting there gossiping about her new years and how her dad passed out. She asked my name and attempted to look me up in the computer, while of course continuing her personal phone conversation. "You should have seen him girl, he was just out on the couch". Humm.... Hey everyone, My daughter and I went to this store for Black Friday sale that started at 8pm on Turkey day. I just wanted to get her a Lego set that was on sale and save a few bucks in the process like most of us on Black Friday. So we are being shoved back and forth so I pick her up, drop all the crap we thought we were going to buy and started to find the exit but we didn't really have any luck. We were trapped in an aisle. I try to get by this blockade of stuff so we can get to the exit and we were told by a female manager with a broken leg that we couldn't go buy there. I said that's fine but we are no longer buying anything so we are not trying to cut in line. She said no again and of course I thought what bullshit, I just want my daughter and I to get out without getting trampled on. It was messy, packed, people were shoving and cursing. It was stupid of me to take my daughter shopping on Black Friday but if I am not buying anything from your store move out of my way so I can leave and you can make room for 2 more people to purchase from you. Also don't block 50% of the aisles and try to crowd 2-3x the amount of people into the store than what the fire code allows. It's worth the extra 5% you pay at Target just to be treated with some respect even if it's fake. Maybe I am over reacting and I asked to be treated this way by going to a store on Black Friday but last year it was different and more organized at Target and this Walmart, it was completely different and way less security so maybe that is why they felt they had to be more aggressive but I will be doing my best to not go back here. They treat everyone like a criminal at Walmart. I came in to do some shopping today and went by the skin care aisle. Everything was locked up, which already made it feel like prison. I had to have someone with a key come and get me $3 makeup remover wipes. Then, when I reached to put them in my cart she said I could not take them with me and that I had to pay for them in the skin/makeup department register and not at the front register. She didn't trust me taking the $3 makeup remover wipes. I thought that was annoying and inconvenient, given that I still had shopping to do and didn't want to wait in line or come back after my shopping was done since self-checkout is always a lot faster. The woman wouldn't budge though. But then when I reached to grab the makeup remover wipes so that I could take them to the skin care/makeup register that was 2 feet away, she took them away and said that SHE would leave them at the register for me. As in, I wasn't even allowed to take the product to the register myself. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? So basically I can go to Target, CVS, Safeway or any other regular store and be treated as a customer or I can go to Walmart where they treat everyone like a criminal. Perhaps most of their customers really are criminals, I don't know, but if that's the case I'm never coming here again. Walmart is a great store to buy simple items for furniture and clothing, but generally doesn't have much in the way of style, so best to just buy the "basic" items here. The prices really are incredible, and they even have groceries now, which is pretty awesome as they are extremely cheap (generally about 25% off of Safeway prices). I like Walmart on the whole, but that said, I don't really like this store. First of all, there are always beggers outside the store who are downright rude if you don't give them money. I don't really like to be harassed while shopping and this is an unpleasant element of shopping here. Also, the waiting lines are often like 10 people long, which at Walmart, is often a 20 minute wait at least. As a result, I can only give this review 3 stars, as this store isn't that great even though Walmart is. read more
