Visited this location for the first time around noon today, and I was able to find parking. I was pleasantly surprised by how organized and well stocked it was. I walked around then realized I started gathering items so luckily the carts are all inside so I was able to grab a cart while holding the items I had slowly started to collect. The dressing room employee was nice and helpful. The cashier was also friendly. I was able to leave my cart while I tried on clothes and came back and it was still there. The bag selection was really nice today. Everything is always first come first serve with stores such as these. They always have good values, but I recommend having a list of things you need, which will help narrow down what you end up buying. They had a good selection of stainless steel pots, and they had these cute mini stainless steel All clad pans!! Also good deals on the glassware for meal prepping! I'd recommend this location I was pleasantly surprised. There is also a trader joe's in the same parking block, but I'd avoid that area. Beware of driving on the trader joe's side, it can get risky from people backing up and not seeing you yikes. read more

This is a smaller scale TJ Maxx. But may I say mighty? I've always had fun shopping here, looking around the miscellaneous section. You don't know what you'll find? I almost like this location more than the monster store in San Carlos. Just because it's easier to navigate. Large parking lot, for now, I heard that this land will be rebuilt into mixed use housing, and shopping. Very sad, knowing this information. So each time I shop in this area, I like to soak it in. There are two female toilets in the back. Wait time for the cashiers are standard for a TJ Maxx. Usually two cashiers. The line is long, but moves at a decent pace. Wait time is generally 5 minutes or more? Have fun with your treasure hunt. read more

I love TJ Maxx and I shop at this location every Saturday. I always have a great shopping experience, but last Saturday (May 20, 2023) was unacceptable. I was waiting in line and there was only 1 cashier. The line eventually went out of the cashier line, but no one came to help or blinked an eye. The one lady at the register couldn't care less what was going on and avoided looking up to see everyone looking at her. A lady in front of me knew one of the workers (who walked by) and tried to call her over, but the worker just said she was on lunch break and walked out of the store..lol. Basically, it was obvious no one cared. Several people including myself gave up and left the line after waiting over 10+ minutes. I know this was an off day so hope management is aware of what's going on and does a better job in the future. read more

I had a gift certificate burning a hole in my pocket so for under $40, I got everything on sale including super warm (in my size!) slippers AFTER Christmas -- that's never happened when I have looked. Thought I was going to have to order them online. A TP holder with ring and storage for multiple roles for only $12, two fantastic "Rae Dunn Clay" mugs, produced by Magenta. This is one of the better TJMaxx stores that I've found. I actually bought a cute Kate Spade phone case and a Burberry perfume, and my success rate with TJMaxx hasn't been so high. They have a cool handbag section with lots of Steve Madden and Michael Kors. I even found a random Frye wallet hidden in the pile. The watch section is interesting. I saw Marc Jacobs watches which I normally don't find. I was less impressed with the clothes section. I didn't really find anything to my liking. read more

This after all is a discount store and for a discount store it is always clean and well organized. The cashiers could be a little slow at peak times but everyone is always super nice. This is not Saks folks this is a place you run in for good deals and some cool knick knacks, sometimes you score a few good clothing and bag options but don't expect super attentive customer service. The MANAGER is the reason for this rating. She was unpleasant, dismissing , unreasonable. I found a top without a tag, and she went back and attached a price tag that was more than any other tops similar to that. She kept me waiting a long time and then dismissed me when I explained that this was similar to others. SAN CARLOS has great customer service and so much more merchandise. The management suck here. They treat employees like garbage. Always very short handed with the employees especially the Indian one. They speak down to there employees as if they are dumb when they simple haven't shown them how do the task they are asking. Overall it is NOT a good work environment. They store manager doesn't do anything to help all she does is sit in her office. Not sure how this location is even still open it's always a mess when I go in there. I recently started working out to fill a void in my life that was previously taken up by practically constant and super obsessive thoughts of pizza. In the last 15 days, I've taken 26 pilates classes and up until a few days ago I only owned one outfit suitable for working out in and things were getting pretty stressful having to weigh out whether I could re-wear it or wash it for the dozenth time in row, so I came to TJ Maxx in search of fitness-related wearables because I'm not baller enough to shop at Lululemon. They had a large but somewhat sad looking selection of workout garb, but it's what you'd expect from TJ Maxx. I tried on about a zillion different things and happily walked out with a second pair of stretchy leggings, a bust-reducing (who am I becoming?) sports bra, and two long tanks for a super nominal price. I think the shirts were something like $12.99 and $9.99 and the leggings might have been $16.99, while the bra was about the same. Everything fit like a glove and now the people in my classes will think I'm fancy because I own more than one outfit to get sweaty in. read more

As you know, TJ Maxx is a hit or miss. However, location sometimes plays in your favor. For example, the closest TJ Maxx to me is in a high traffic area and frequently doesn't have the stuff I'm looking for. On the other hand, this TJ Maxx and the ones nearby aren't as picked over. Although I don't need another handbag, I found a couple leather backpack style handbags that I was soooo tempted to get, but I refrained from hoarding. Other items that I look for are size 9 rings that can accommodate my arthritic fingers. After trying on three, I decided on two. Admittedly, I had to wait a while as there were two customers ahead of me and the one sales agent could only help one customer at a time. In addition to the rings, I tried on a fishbone necklace that just wasn't going to work out. In the food section, I saw 6oz bags of Maca root powder selling for $4. Regretfully, I didn't buy it and this location is a little too far to make it worth driving back. read more

Fast forward to adulthood. being a grown up now means that I now give grown up types of presents. You would think a bottle of France's finest Brut rose should be a perfect gift and will not require any batteries. Well maybe not. But it does require Champagne flutes! Doh! Yes, I bought a friend a nice bottle of bubbly, and I learned that they were actually considering using paper cups to consume this very rare bottle of bubbles. I just couldn't let this potential tragedy take place. I went into Macy's and picked up six Kate Spade Champagne flutes. They seemed nice and thought they would fill the bill. I am not well versed in how much Champagne stemware goes for, but these were priced at $30 each which seemed reasonable. I recently made an outing to TJ Maxx to find a replacement charger for my iphone and guess what I found? Yes, you are correct. The very same Kate Spade Champagne flutes. I have shopped at TJ Maxx for many years, and even worked in one for the holiday season when I was in college. They have a good selection of things, if you're not looking for something too specific. You can get lucky and find some great deals. The reason for the one star rating is because of the horrible, irate way that I was treated by the manager Amir Ham. I bought a purse at the brand new San Francisco store (I was in the city to have lunch with a friend). There was no tag on the bag, so the salesperson had to call around a bunch of stores to get the price. Later on I decided to return the bag to the San Mateo store. When I brought the bag in, Amir refused to return it and started asking me questions in a rude way, as if I was trying to scam TJ Maxx. (ex. Why did you buy the purse in SF and now return it to San Mateo?) I had the sales receipt, and all he had to do was call the SF store. He went to the back, and came out maybe 3 minutes later, saying he had called them. Well, I called them and he had not in fact called them. My problem is not so much that he wouldn't return the bag, (although with one phone call he could have seen that I purchased the bag at that price), it's the way he treated me. I have not deluded myself into expecting Nordstrom-like service at a discount store like TJ Maxx, but I think civility isn't asking too much. read more

This location can be messy and I have to agree they are not the friendliest staff at this location. Other than that, in general I dont find this locaton to be any worse or better than most other locations. I think I don't go expecting the world when I shop here, it's not Neiman Marcus after all. I like this location because there is a Rite Aid and a Trader Joe's and I can get a lot done in one stop. I do think however that they usually have a better selection of handbags at this location especially given the fact that I just got an awesome bag for $99 that was previously $250. read more

Confession: I am a closet Maxxinista. I was pleasantly surprised by this location's offerings - first of all, it's tucked away in a strip mall, away from downtown San Mateo, so it seems like they don't get much foot traffic. I also think their offerings are WAY WAY better than the ones on the east coast. Maybe it's because people in the bay area aren't as concerned with trendy or chic pieces, but I scored a lot of great finds for home decor and the like here. I also felt that the store was very organized and clean, compared to what I've experienced in NYC and NJ. The sales associates are also fairly pleasant. The positive experiences I've had from visiting this store inspired me to check out some of the other locations in the bay as well. read more

I love TJ Maxx! They have the best purses. However, sometimes, this location can be a bit messy. I found something I really liked, but it was damaged (I can easily super glue it back), and the cashier who served me was the manager. She was super nice and gave me a decent discount. The lines move fast b/c of the number of cashiers. Sometimes, they might be short of cashiers, and they will also PA someone to come and open up. I appreciate that.
