Basically, I shop here because I can't afford to shop anywhere else. Yes, I'm that poor. This Wal-Mart is pretty decent. Reasonably clean, most (but not all) employees are friendly and helpful, and not too hard to find what you are looking for. Some tips: Shop early in the day. If you come at night, a lot of the shelves will be empty. Also, check your receipt before leaving the store. If you get double-charged for one item, it may be almost impossible to get your money back later on! (Said from experience.) This store is less ghetto than some Wal-Marts I have been to. Maybe that's because it's located in a slightly more affluent area than most. Prices seem to have jumped somewhat in the last few months...don't know why, but it's still cheaper than anywhere else. I know you dont come to walmart for the customer service. But if something is locked up like the laptops and you need help good luck finding someone to help you. Not only do they not help you in your decision but if they dont have the laptop your looking at they cant/wont tell you when they will be getting more. Also they always have someone begging for money or pestering you for your vote. There has never been a time I have been there without someone bothering me about donating or signing something. Went to Walmart this evening to pick up a prescription and instead of the "park and call" during this pandemic I thought I would venture in and see what supplies I might find. I waited in line outside 6' apart with my mask on only to enter and wait for a cart. The gal wiping down the carts was very young and using the same filthy brown rag on one cart after another... no spray ... just... this icky brown rag... one cart after another. Already being a germaphobe I told myself ok I will grab the purell wipes they have as you enter ... nope... none... fortunately I keep antibacterial stuff on my purse but seriously... what if I didn't. What if I did but my mom or dad or grandma or neighbor of whomever that came in later didn't have something to keep themselves safe...? Aren't we all in this together? Why is this Wal-mart so dark? Are they thinking they are saving money on electricity. I went here with Lukey B. just because we were looking for a certain brand of cleaner that we have not been able to find. The parking is horrible and the light inside is awful. Not only that when I went here with Lukey B. This gago old man, was yelling you can't bring that dog (Miss Maggie) in here. Even when Lukey was putting her badge in his face. So that solved that. We also had to stand in line to return something and there was someone also in line with there little doggie in a carrier. I didn't see the gago man make a fuss with them. Is it because we were carrying her in and didn't have her in a carrier? What gives? I certainly will not return to this Wal-mart. Even if the returns area was not that long of a wait. This is a terrible Walmart. I've been to lots, and this is definitely among the worst, if not THE worst. It's dirty, disorganized, and under-stocked, especially on toys, even at Christmastime (?!?!). It's poorly-lit, which makes it more depressing than it already is. The staff is unfriendly and unhelpful. The only positive thing I can say is that the greeters are nice and there's lots of parking. I'm not basing this review on one or two visits, I've been shopping at this WM since it opened. For years, I thought this was just what all WMs must be like. Then I took a cross-country road trip and went to more Walmarts than I can count, all across the US, and found the majority of them to be clean, well-stocked, and full of friendly and helpful employees (shocker!). As far as Walmarts go, this isn't the worst one I've ever been to (can you say Richmond?). Back in high school, I would come here to get solid-colored crewneck sweaters because that was the trend at the time. I saved a lot of money coming here to get random gifts for any and every occasion also. Seriously, just browse the aisles until you find that useless thing that would be cool to have but no one would ever buy for themselves. Perfect present. I went in to buy an ink cartridge I needed badly tonight, the box was slightly damaged but I thought nothing of it at the time. Bought a 932 site in black, went home opened the box and inside my box was a size 564. No big deal stuff like this happens I work retail and I understand it, so I go ahead and drive back to exchange the defect. So upon trying to exchange it I was informed that I couldn't because it was the wrong ink cartridge for that package. No duh sherlock that's why I want an exchange. So she said she can't help so I asked for the manager. Explain what happened and just wanting to exchange my defect for a working cartridge. She then said I can't help you there, We don't exchange open ink packages. So I asked why your store sold me a defective item and now its my problem. To which she responded "I can't help you at all" and began to walk off. I asked for her name twice as she left to which she refused to answer. I'm not upset with the waste of my money or anything of that sort. I'm upset because the manager who spoke to me did not try to come to a solution or help in the slightest. Again I work retail and if I was to act in that manner I would be fired on spot. And thus they have lost me as a customer. read more

Let's face it. It's Walmart. I haven't been to a Walmart since college in Houston, but it's less than 5 minutes away from where I live, so I went there for some last-minute Christmas shopping items. I forgot how INCREDIBLY and WONDERFULLY CHEAP it is!! SO CHEAP!! I'm just astonished! I mean, I don't mind paying an extra dollar or two for good morale of the employees and company of that store, but an Asian girl loves a good deal, too! $4 for Corelle bowls, where on Amazon they go for $12 each. I know Walmart survives on the blood of poor workers, but I'm still tempted to go back for their incredible deals. AND, they even have a very impressive crafts section (whereas Target had slowly taken them out). Then again, it's Walmart. Very long lines. It smells. I bought an awesome Kingsford BBQ here for $88 that about half the cost of every grill at Home Depot and was way better quality which is not something I generally associate with Walmart. This product as well has really turned my head about Walmart. If you can stand the crowd that shops here as well as the employees you can really get a big bang for your buck and from my experience they have some quality products on the cheap. read more

Ok. It's Walmart. So I'm not expecting 5 star service. Some common sense, yes. Some common courtesy, yes. Speaking English clearly, yes. Helpful, yes. Don't expect that here!! I live very close to this store so I come here often. On a rare occasion I have had a pleasant experience with one of the associates. Very rare. This Walmart is the better Walmart when compared to Antioch & Pittsburg. I know that they service different communities.. but for the Walmart image overall this one is good! Every time I go here I always notice how clean it looks in here - I noticed some Walmarts are REALLY unorganized with a lot of stuff lying around where they aren't supposed to be, stuff on the floor, people not doing their jobs, whatever. Every time I walk in here I can't see any of that, and this doesn't have weird, stuck-up workers who either think they're better than you or just give you the image they don't care about you (like some other stores). I think the workers here are more genuine, laid-back and relaxed. I appreciate them for that because I feel they are very "real" and they aren't very caught up in creating a "fake image." The parking lot usually always has plenty of spaces here.. The McDonald's is what you expect, but they don't serve everything a usual McDonald's serve so watch out! Sometimes their credit card machine doesn't work (happened to me a couple of times).. I noticed this Walmart isn't that crowded either usually, or at least doesn't "feel" crowded like some other Walmarts do (don't ask me..ha) I also really like the location of this place, in sleepy Martinez. At least it's better here than in Concord come on.. It's like when they moved Walmart to AC trom Vallejo - it makes it feel "nicer" somehow.. Low prices, good service, clean presentation and parking lot. You don't need to hear me talk about Walmart! Always good people here, both customers and employees. Honestly , I come here once a year to get things that are cheaper than at other places. They have a small garden center here which you can't find at most stores now and days. Large selection of automotive supplies which was the reason for my trip. A steering wheel cover for less than $10. The back to school section and dorm room stuff was cheap. You ask an employee for directions to find things and they kindly respond and the exit door man was very nice. I don't support low low wages but it's Walmart so you should know what your coming into. read more

This is an awesome store. They carry absolutely everything, the employees seem lots happier (and more savvy) than the employees at Target, and you will save mucho dinero here. I like this store better than the one in Pleasanton, I think it's better stocked. And frankly, when I'm Christmas shopping I like listening to Christmas carols and I like hearing Merry Christmas from the employees. I mean, I can't be the only one who loves Christmas (and I'm an agnostic.) That's the beginning and the end of the story. (And folks, don't listen to all of the media hype. I applied for a credit card online and was approved. They emailed me a slip to print and use In store until my card arrives. I went into the store today, did some shopping and go to pay with my emailed slip and ID only to be turned away. The woman at the register asked me what it was (it clearly states what it is and how to use it). She said she needed to talk to someone else. She talked to 2 other employees and then a third who looked at me like I was crazy. They were having a conversation as if I wasn't present. Saying the limit is too high, anyone could print this, why would I buy so little with such a high limit etc. Another employee came over and said they would have to take it in the back and have a manager verify it. Wait 15 mins, she comes back to tell me it can't be verified and they can't accept it. Then I'm told they can't take it because they're changing banks. I told her I literally JUST applied (I have the email with time and date). They refuse to take it at this point everyone in line is irritated and assuming I'm trying to make a fraudulent transaction. My kids are going crazy because the entire process took so long. I left everything and walked out but it was beyond embarrassing. I tried to email customer service and all they could say was sorry it shouldn't have taken so long to come to a resolution. I'm done with Walmart and they're credit card already. I most definitely won't be back to this location. read more

I agreed with all of the reviews regarding customer service. The worst customer service ever. The staff (the lady at customer service desk) and the manager didn't help me at all. I was trying to return my bike and the lock. I used to return my items without a receipt and they would issue me a store credit. However, the lady just said no. The manager said no and being so unfriendly. The bike has never been used. I had to return cause I had to move and had no room for the bike. In fact, the bike wheel was wobbling from the beginning. So I asked can she help with that issue. She said she is not sure since I had no receipt. On top of that, she asked for my ID so I handed her my passport. Her response was she can't work with the passport. What is that? read more

I actually like this Walmart for the most part but my last visit was really aggravating. I needed some dress pants and all of the sizes were un-assorted and out of order with most hangers without the size tabs on top so had to flip through the rack several times. Then went to look at boxers and again, the sizes and style were all mixed up and confusing but I found a pack with nice colors for a great price. I decided to try the school supply aisle expecting a chore and it was. There were two boxes of notebooks with a tag in front for one price then two identical boxes fo the same notebooks below for a different price. The higher price of the two was not that high so I bought it anyway and sure enough it was the higher at checkout. Finally, the great price pack of boxers rang up $4 more than the shelf tag so I asked for it to be voided. Tough day at Walmart. read more

Lots of negative stuff written about Walmart, but I like the place for occasional shopping! I have 3 kids, ages 8-13 --- during the Summer months we get printed t-shirts for $2.50 each; kids jeans (house brand) for $8.50. For Christmas I got 3 kids bikes, different sizes, for $88 each, fully assembled! (I called a local bike shop in Pleasant Hill; they wanted $150 just to assemble a bike!). My 13 year old got prescription glass frames for just $8! Another thing I like is in the bedding dept. if you want a queen size fitted lower sheet, and a king size upper sheet, you can purchase them without buying a set. Many if not most stores only sell things in sets. Another kewl thing is you can shop on their website, find things that aren't normally stocked by the store, then have them shipped free to the store. I once purchased a high-powered salt water trolling motor that way, and a kid's trampoline. We go here about once every 2-3 months, but save money every time! Many of my friends and coworkers have never been inside a Walmart but sometimes I'll show them something, ask them where they think I got it, and tell them what I paid for it at Walmart!! Walmart seems as popular these days as a pit bull at a kid's playground, but for occasional shopping we always save there!!! read more

Monday Nov 12,2012 Here is what happened today, I am in Walmart in Arnold Dr in Martinez to return a backpack. There was an elderly lady named, Esther who was working in return section at 9 A.M morning. she looked pretty confused working with computer and couldn't return my backpack. Because of lack of knowledge and because she doesn't know how to work with computer, she said I haven't paid my item when I got it! and start to act like I'm a thief or sth! After minutes of insulting me she finally called her manager . her name was Ranjini, She solved the problem with computer right away and gave the refund money back! I really didn't know what to say at the time. I left the section and when I came back after couple of minutes to complain about what just happened, Esther, wasn't there.. I asked from the manager , Rangini, to call her but she didn't help me and got her back. Unfortunately I couldn't get a chance to talk to Mr.Beau co assistant too. Just let you know , if you are going there for shop you have to deal with these mean people. Don't ruin your day, I highly recommend to go to a Target on Contra Costa Boulevard 3 mils away instead of that specific Walmart. And if you read other reviews here, all are negative and it shows people have had bad experiences before. read more

This store is dirty and smells. The staff are all dirty tweekers. I bought a blueray player, the cashier said the reciept was in the bag, but it wasnt. When I walked out some old guy told me I had to prove I bought it. THIS after I stood in line for 30 minutes because the cashier was soooo slow. Old man said go back to the cashier and get a reciept. I worked a long day that day and didnt want to go back after waiting in line for so long already and it was getting late. So I told him no and to leave me alone. He argued with me and I said its not my fault I didnt get a reciept it was the cashiers mistake. And then I made the worlds slowest getaway as I walked to my car and checked over the bags once more a a reciept....nothing. Really hate this store! Cameron is AMAZING! I was on the phone with walmart.com for over 45 minutes. The end result was to call back and speak to Customer Relations. Good thing I didn't listen to them and decided to call the store directly. The receptionist kept transferring me to nobody. After 4 tries, I finally got connected to Cameron. I'm so thankful he picked up! Cameron was kind enough to go out of his way to help me, running throughout the entire store and speaking to different managers. When I got there, he personally made sure he took care of me. What excellent customer service!! read more

This is one of the only Walmart that has self check out which saves a lots of time for me. I rather go here than the one in Richmond!

They have been pretty good. You just have to have patience with them. Best time to get items that go quickly are Monday mornings or Thursday when their deliveries come in. read more
