I scheduled a laser facial and was quoted $2,000 on Thursday, with a 10% discount bringing the total to $1,800. On Friday, I was contacted and told the actual price was $2,400, but that I would receive a $400 discount, bringing my total to $2,000.
Naturally, my question was: Where did the additional $400 come from when I had already been quoted $2,000 the day before, with a 10% discount bringing my total to $1,800?
I was told the original quote was a mistake, but that wasn't communicated clearly from the beginning. Instead, I was given a higher price and told that, after the discount, I would still owe $2,000. That wasn't what I had originally been quoted or what I had planned to pay.
Throughout the conversation, responsibility was shifted to her business partner. Eventually, after considerable frustration and back-and-forth, she offered to honor the $1,800 price since the mistake was hers.
I declined.
My issue was never just about the money. It was about transparency, accountability, and professionalism. Mistakes happen, and I understand that. However, how a business handles those mistakes says a lot about how it values its customers. I believe the situation could have been handled very differently from the beginning, with clear communication and accountability.
Unfortunately, the entire interaction left me feeling uncomfortable and questioning how this business handles its pricing and customer relationships. Clients shouldn't have to go back and forth just to get a clear explanation of a price they were originally quoted. And when she finally offered to honor the original $2000 quote with 10% off for 1800 it was way down the line. I shouldn't feel like she's doing me a favor when she made a mistake.
It's disappointing because my first experience was positive, and I genuinely wanted to continue supporting a local business. However, this experience has changed that. I can no longer confidently recommend this business based on how this situation was handled.
In a small town like Woodland, California, trust, honesty, and professionalism matter. Customer relationships are built on clear communication and accountability, and unfortunately, this experience fell short of my expectations.
I believe in supporting local businesses, but I also believe customers deserve transparency and consistency. Sadly, this experience has left me feeling that it's time to take my business elsewhere.
