    May 24, 2026 | Sunday | English Date Cake!! |
    Shantelle S.

May 24, 2026 | Venice | After an event in Santa Monica, two friends, and I decided to try the Indonesian-inspired restaurant Wallflower for the first time! Also, having recently traveled throughout Indonesia in part of June & July 2026, I now understand more of the items on the menu from personal experience! Japanese Curry | Savory, hearty & delicious! I was immediately amazed when my plate arrived at the table! Eggplant, squash, baby carrots, and other veggies, swimming in the vibrant Yellow Curry made my mouth water! Each bite was just as yummy as the next! Incredibly flavorful! I would easily order again! Jasmine Rice | An aromatic mix of ginger, lemongrass & Thai lime leaves are both flavorful, as well as a great addition to combine with the Japanese curry dish! English Date Cake | Yum! The cake arrived complete with a beautiful purple flower on top! I absolutely love dates, which was a delicious part of the dessert! The banana toffee sauce really comes through as well! What a delicious combo! I would easily order again! Travel Notes | While in Indonesia I enjoyed some of the local flavors/dishes! After trying Nasi Goreng for the first time, Vegetarian style, I had the dish often throughout my travels! When I first saw the dish on the menu at Wallflower, I had no idea of what the flavors would taste like! Now I know and hopefully, on my next visit, I'll ask if the Chef can create it vegetarian style! Menu Options | More than the main menu is available; Vegan, Vegetarian & Gluten-free! I explored the vegetarian menu! Customer Service | Excellent, friendly and helpful with the menu! Seating | Indoor & Outdoor! Friends and I sat on the outside patio! I love the cute wooden tables! Overall | Yes, please! I enjoyed my dining experience, immensely, at Wallflower! I also had plenty of leftovers to enjoy! I'm looking forward to going back and trying other items on the menu! Let's go!

Wallflower absolutely blew me away. The food was so ridiculously good that I genuinely left wondering how this place doesn't have a Michelin star (or at least some recognition). Every dish tasted thoughtful, unique, and restaurant-week-level refined. We ordered the nasi goreng fried rice, noodles, beef rendang, yam dish, and pea salad. Flavor-wise? Almost everything was incredible. The beef rendang especially was packed with flavor, and every dish felt elevated and intentional. My only reason for knocking off a star is the value. The portions were tiny -- not "small plates" tiny, but more like one-to-two bites each while still being priced aggressively. By the end, I felt more impressed than full. If the portions matched the quality, this would've easily been a 5-star experience. That said, if you care more about exceptional food than portion sizes, this place is worth trying. One of the most memorable meals I've had on the Westside.

Came here last night with my friend and my boyfriend because we wanted a fun Venice dinner with dim lighting and a disco ball. It was so fun! Also shockingly easy to find street parking nearby. Service was great too, we had a super sweet waitress. We ordered a bunch of things. The duck lumpia was easily the best thing like actually so good. The ribs were also amazing. Japanese curry was solid. The nasi goreng was fine... fried rice with a little chicken skewer doing its best. And then the new butter chicken they just added to the menu... I'm sorry but it had WAY too much cumin. Like it genuinely tasted like the lid of the cumin shaker popped off and someone was like "eh it's late, send it." I kept trying to convince myself it was intentional and sophisticated and then I remembered I'm allowed to have taste buds Overall really fun night, great vibe, most of the food hit. Left happy, full, and still thinking about the lumpia... and slightly concerned about whoever was in charge of cumin.

Exceptional Service and Phenomenal Conversations... Seriously this place rocks! I've never experienced a better place to eat if you love Fusion Food concepts with a deliciously creative selection of drinks. Also I can't leave a single review without mentioning the classy Ambiance curating an intimate vibe with the overhanging lights. This is the PERFECT date spot. Shoutout the the GM Lainey , always a warm welcome everytime I come here.

Loved the ambiance, service, and food here. The waiter was super friendly and helpful with our orders, suggesting some delicious mezcal cocktails. We sat on the outdoor patio which was a cool vibe and had heaters to keep us warm. The food was also delicious - we tried: - papaya salad: super spicy (beware! But I loved the amount of spice and flavor) - Japanese's curry: super delicious with a good kick (not as spicy as the papaya), loved the eggplant - nasi goreng: tied between this and the curry for my favorite dish - this was super flavorful and I like how the egg came in a little fried ball - rib wings: wanted to love these and they were definitely super flavorful, but the meat wasn't as tender as I was expecting, so I'd say they were just okay Overall, amazing food and great service, and would definitely return!

Duck Lumpia and Snap Pea Salad

Underrated in my opinion. Service was excellent; food was amazing; place was super chill but lively. We got the Duck Lumpia (definitely get this), Snap Pea Salad (definitely get this), fried rice, and Pepes (barramundi wrapped in banana leaf (excellent). Duck Lumpia was my favorite but everything was fabulous. Our server, who's normally behind the bar, was great. He was super accommodating, made sure our menu picks were balanced and didn't order too much, and he was very accommodating with my off menu drink request. I don't know what there is to not like about Wallflower! Underrated ratings in my opinion.

TLDR: Good, but not outstanding. The restaurant is beautiful, especially the outdoor areas. The server was very knowledgeable in the menu and I appreciate that. However, I do not believe the quality and portions were enough to blow my mind away for the price. I do think everything was delicious, but again- not super memorable. The Japanese yam is very sweet and tastes like honey. It's very good, but not worth $20. I do like the drinks- had the red envelope and thought it was delicious. The presentation was also quite great as well. This is a great spot for a date night, but believe there are better options for the price point. Again, it's not this is not a BAD restaurant by any means, it just doesn't WOW me enough to be worth the price.

Wallflower is a total vibe -- cozy outdoor seating, moody lighting, and perfect for date night or a chill dinner with friends. The space feels intimate but stylish, and the South Asian flavors are bold without trying too hard. It's all small plates, so sharing is the move. Do not skip the duck egg rolls (crispy, juicy, perfect) or the rendang -- insanely tender and full of flavor. A couple dishes were just okay, but the hits definitely outweighed the misses. Cocktails were solid too. Overall, a fun spot with great energy. Would come back to try other items on the menu.

a friend of mine who lives nearby recommended this spot. neighborhood parking was relatively easy for a friday night. we got seated immediately and the vibe was bustling and the service was attentive. now for the food... snap pea salad: i always jump on a seasonal snap pea salad. the dressing was heavier than i expected but it did well to balance out the earthiness of the sprouts. great starter dish but a bit small for the price tag. duck lumpia: this is a must order for me. the duck meat was super rich and had that teeth-sinking bite to it. the lumpia wrapper was audibly crispy and the spiced vinegar of the dipping sauce came with a bright acidic punch to balance the richness. beef rendang: crazy depth of flavor and spice. the meat here was also perfectly tender and pulled apart with east. a killer small plate with a big impact. would also order this again. a note on the rice: the chicken/coconut rice was pretty dried out and hard. also in hindsight i feel there's so much flavor elsewhere, an order of jasmine rice would've been a better complement barramundi: it came out wrapped up and extremely hot and fresh. a very delicious, perfectly cooked fish with nice balance between the natural fish flavor and all the toppings wrapped up inside with it. def recommend if you like a meatier, flakier sea bass. manhattan: a nice drink but mostly tasted like a classic manhattan. also in retrospect woudlve gotten something more acidic instead of spiced to differentiate from the spice profile of the food. all in all, it's a bit pricey for me personally but a lot of the dishes we ordered were very delicious and i wouldn't hesitate to recommend this place.

Wonderful place. Good food, great service and peculiar ambience. My favorite dish was Duck Lumpia and rib wings with Nasi Goreng ( fried rice)

Place has a nice vibe. It's casual and pleasant. We sat on the patio, though the inside has more aura. Found free meter parking but you can valet. One thing worth mentioning is the automatic 20% fee added to the bill. The restaurant makes it clear that this is not a gratuity or tip, but rather a fee used to fund operations. Our total for two came to $179.09, with no alcohol but we did have two bottles of water. And with the new sales tax rate + this 20% fee it all just feels overpriced. Something to be aware of before dining. Otherwise, a good experience and definitely a place I'd return to.

The speakeasy is unique and even serves full menu of great food! Aesthetic & Ambiance: 9.5/10 - it was very prohibition themed and the menus being price/luggage tags was very fun. Came on a saturday night at 6:30 reservation and it was very quiet with us being the only table most of the evening. The outside restaurant has live bands which can be a little loud. Service: 100/10 - Markley was the bartender and the only one who operates the speakeasy, she's not only the best bartender Ive had custom drinks from, but she also makes each individual product herself. Cajun chicken pasta: 9.5/10 chicken was tender, pasta was cooked perfectly, sauce was delicious, and the sausage was a great addition. I'd easily drive an hour from LA again to come here!

There must have been 3-4 parties. That night the hostess divided diners and bar patrons between the "two rooms" (the restaurant has a bar in the middle that divided the room.) We let the hostess know that we were a party of two and she seated us between two large groups in the "other" room. It was weird seating to say the least. Our table was at the curve or the booth seating and was too close to another seated party. You needed to squeeze in to get to the booth seat and my +1 volunteered to scoot in a tight pathway. Because we were between the two groups, it was extremely loud. The restaurants aesthetic is really hip. I don't remember the space at the entrance, but the room that we were in had an eye catching mural and the booth area that we were seated in made a face (with the wall being a pair of eyes and the two long booth seats meeting to make a nose.) Unfortunately, lighting was very low and I could barely see the dishes for the second half of the meal. Food was tasty. We ordered the XO fatty noodle (no bean sprouts), orange chicken and Sichuan eggplant. Everything came out hot once they were ready. I had to hold back from eating all of the orange chicken. The XO noodles, not sure if it was because we customized the dish, was too salty though.. Staff were calm to expressionless. Person who came for the bill was wiping our table while we were packing our leftovers. I didn't appreciate how they stayed with us when we were paying on their handheld machine. Overall, I enjoyed the food, but did not have the best dine in experiences.
