My new favorite restaurant in Los Angeles! Since this review, I have been to this restaurant twice due to how amazing the food is. Firstly, I came for dinner on a Saturday night and it's absolutely beautiful inside. I loved the dim lighting and the lights which create a truly romantic experience. Service was great and our servers were amazing. They explained the menu throughly and explained how the items were family style. For drinks, we ordered the pong express which was delicious. For food, we ordered the cornbread, the cat fish bites, the blackened chicken, the carrots and the mashed potatoes. Everything was super delicious and the portions were great. Service: We checked in for our reservation with the young man at the front, who asked whether we'd prefer to sit inside or outside. I initially said inside, but when we got there, I gave him the look of uncertainty and admitted, "I lied... can we sit outside?" We both laughed, and I appreciated that he immediately read the room and smiled before saying yes. He brought us out and even let us choose between two open tables, instant 10/10 service from him. Our host was petite and incredibly sweet. She let us know right away that the cornbread takes a little time to prepare, so we could order it first while browsing the menu. My water glass never once went empty, and the two gentlemen clearing tables made sure our glasses stayed full and any finished plates disappeared promptly. I love that level of attentiveness. And mind you--Hatchet Hall was completely full when we visited, yet the service never skipped a beat. Outdoor seating is a must, though I may be biased because I love plants (lol). Crispy Brussels Sprouts - This fell slightly short for me. They were a bit overcooked and lacked the crunch I was hoping for, though the walnuts helped add some texture. Still a solid dish overall. Mashed Potatoes - Creamy, rich, and delicious. My husband paired these with his steak and had zero regrets. 45-Day Dry Aged Ribeye - Incredibly tender. The steak sauce elevated it even further and tied the whole dish together beautifully. Slow-Cooked Lamb Shank - For some reason I expected this to be small... it was not. 04-2026 I've been to Hatchet Hall before and had great experiences, but unfortunately, this most recent visit felt like a step back. While the flavors were there, the service and pacing left our party of three feeling like an afterthought. The Service: We were seated promptly for our reservation, but then the experience hit a snag. We sat for quite a while without anyone greeting us, even as I watched other waiters warmly welcoming tables nearby. I eventually had to flag down a busser just to get someone to come over. When our server did arrive, her attitude felt rushed and a bit off. While she warmed up as the evening progressed, the initial cold start definitely rubbed me the wrong way. The Food: The menu still has its highlights. The cornbread is always a hit, and we enjoyed the butter lettuce wedge, market greens, and grilled mushrooms. For sides, we had the mashed potatoes and fries, eventually finishing with the apple crumble, which were all solid. However, the kitchen pacing was completely non-uniform. My party's dishes came out well ahead of mine, and the dry-aged ribeye arrived last, after a noticeably long wait. It's hard to enjoy a group dinner when the main course arrives after the sides have already been sitting there. Final Thoughts: I still tipped 25% because I know it's a team effort, but this wasn't the same high-level experience I've had here in the past. I've been wanting to try hatchet hall for quite some time. First thing we ordered was the cornbread since it took longer to cook. We ordered the crudo, ribeye, French fries, and Brussels sprouts. I think the cornbread, crudo, and ribeye were my favs. Surprisingly not the biggest fan of the fries or Brussels sprouts which was disappointing. The cornbread was spectacular 10/10 would order again. It was butter and mouse but also on the savory side. The crudo was also delicious super fresh and light. The steak I give it an 7/10 because it was flavorful but fatty and thin. Now onto the not so great dishes of the night. The Brussels sprouts were kinda soggy and one note. I didnt really taste the honey was a lot of balsamic vinaigrette flavor. And the fries not much to write home about. Overall I would def come back to try their brunch menu and to get the corn bread. Blown away by the atmosphere, interior, and decor as soon as you step inside - feels like a modern Southern home, yet not too casual. The branzino was just average, lacking in flavor and a bit burnt (67$). The pork (54$) was raved about but was nothing special either, albeit better than the branzino. The cornbread was incredible flavor wise but a bit mushy/lacking structure, although everything else about it is amazing (21$). For dessert, the sticky toffee cake was not too sweet and is better than most i've had, although I wish it were topped with vanilla ice cream instead of whipped cream. We had a solid experience at Hatchet Hall! I'm a big fan of their sister restaurant, Dunsmoor, but lately it has been quite difficult to book. We were planning to be near the area of Hatchet Hall and decided to finally make a reservation for dinner. We were seated in their middle patio, the area between the inside seating and outdoor seating. It was private but it did get quite dark quickly. I got a cocktail ("eastern medicine" with mezcal) and my husband got a glass of wine. The cocktail was solid, not very strong, but enjoyable. For food, we ordered the cornbread, hamachi crudo, fried green tomatoes, and citrus salad for our starters. For our main we ordered the pork chop. The starters came out extremely quickly, and I enjoyed them all. The cornbread is quite similar to the version at Dunsmoor, though that version comes in a cast iron skillet which does seem to make the crust of the cornbread a bit thicker, but it's otherwise pretty much the same. A must-order. The fried green tomatoes had a great texture and the hamachi crudo was fresh and balanced. The citrus salad was light and enjoyable. The pork chop was coursed out a bit later. I'm typically not a huge fan of pork chop but I was open to giving theirs a try. I thought it was solid but I wouldn't get it again. For dessert, the options all looked quite tempting. We opted for 2 desserts - a strawberry shortcake biscuit and their chocolate chip cookies. The biscuit wasn't as good as I had hoped it would be. It had fresh strawberry jam and whipped cream, but as a whole it mostly felt heavy and wasn't really doing it for me. The cookies on the other hand were quite good. I'm always on the hunt for a fantastic chocolate chip cookie, and their version checked that box. It came with 2 large cookies so we took one home to enjoy another day. Our waitress (who was hard to understand) was telling us that each plate except the main course plates were shareable portions for 3-4 people. No waaaay. BIG MISS of the night: the pork chop. Way too fatty for such a quality restaurant. I'd skip it. I lost a lot of substance to the fat. I've been hearing great things about Hatchet Hall in Culver City, and since the Amex Platinum comes with a Resy credit, I really had no reason to delay the visit any longer. It was fairly easy to find an opening on a Sunday night. They offer valet, or you can find street parking nearby, just be sure to read the signs carefully as many streets require a permit. Once we arrived, we were greeted by the host and seated in the fancy courtyard. This is definitely a place to take a date; the vibe is perfect with dim lighting, candles on every table, and lots of plants. The semi-enclosed outdoor seating is a nice touch. Just like everyone says, the waiter highly recommended the cast iron cornbread. I'm going to be honest: I wasn't a huge fan. It was a bit too sweet and oily for my liking. I'm glad I tried it to see what the hype was about, but I probably wouldn't recommend it. However, the main courses really impressed us. The Elk Loin was tender and flavorful, and the brown bacon bits & fig went perfectly with the dish. It was a wonderfully plated and tasty course. The Branzino was another standout, cooked to perfection with a hint of fire, tender, and juicy. It's probably the best grilled Branzino I've ever had. Usually, when the first dish disappoints, I don't expect the rest of the meal to be exceptional. I used to go here once every two(ish) months when it was Waterloo and City with some chef friends. I haven't been since the company switch. Recently went for my birthday and it was delightful. Made reservations for 3 on a Sunday night dinner and was seated inside. I did wish we had the option to sit outside, but it is what it is. The decor of the spot was nice and the dining ware matched the vibes. Everything gave a homie feel. The food was cool but i'm not sure i would come back. Most dishes were tasty, but nothing to write home about. I think the two dishes that really stood out to me, was the cornbread and pork chop. Cornbread came out piping hot and the pork was juice and done well. Our group also ordered drinks and those were cool. For the price, i would rather just go to a nice steak house, but hey, that's just me. Definitely a spot to check out if you're into cornbread. But it's a must if you like your pork chop. read more

I would def be back, the perfect date night or girls dinner out. The corn bread i was expecting to be more sweet but it's more savory and melts in your mouth. Im not a vegetable girl all the time but the Brussel sprouts and cauliflower i never had cauliflower like that so GOOD. The Branzino was the star. Do not get that banana pudding over salty and runny but the Date cake with fresh whip is a must. I had high expectations for Hatchet Hall - feel like I've only seen raving reviews online or from friends. I came for dinner recently, and was not impressed! First, I have food allergies so my experience is certainly different. Have to caveat that. I'm allergic to dairy, so probably 95% of the menu was off limits including their famous corn bread. So who knows - a normal person may have a MUCH better experience lol. With my food allergies, our waiter only gave me 2 options on the entire menu. I ended up having the steak, broccolini, and fries. Steak was good but not the best and not at all worth the price. Broccolini was good, but honestly didn't taste very fresh. My husband, who doesn't have allergies, thought his meal was just ok. He had the short rib? Or braised brisket - whatever it's called - and has had better from elsewhere. We also both shared the deviled eggs, which were not very good or flavorful. Hillstone's are lightyears better. All that said, service wasn't the best. For their reputation and prices, I expected better service. They just were not friendly or warm, and not willing to make any exceptions for my food allergies. They blamed it on the kitchen/chef which I get to some degree, but safe to say, it's not a very welcoming restaurant to those with dietary restrictions. I apologize in advance as I did not clip many pictures of the place, and the reason why I visited this place was because it had lovely visual appeal. So in a way, I am describing the beauty of a rose and why I whiffed the beauty in red, without having a visual ready to help the reader understand what I described. It is not exactly the same, but imagine seeing Beauty and the Beast and only hearing about the rose and its wilting petals from Belle, the Beast, the narrator and Ms. Potts and never seeing the rose in cased in glass. Not the same impactful movie, not the same impactful Yelp. My friend Conrad and I were walking looking for our dinner spot and we passed this place. The immediate draw was its garden/green house like patio. It was decorated, with soft, strung lights, , promises in different shades of green, and tables everywhere. I wanted to eat amongst the fairies of this garden. Like, the place had quiet charm, it was a dinner by candlelight, yet no candles existed. In sum, the garden felt like a place where intimacy spread in every table, yet buzz was all around because the fairies that spread their quiet elegance worked like bees collecting honey. Of course, the fairies could not be seen, the work sound was the chatter of the crowd, but if one allows for beauty to be seen, beyond what can be seen, then this garden is one that holds magical capacity. Conrad and I entered the garden and spoke to the host. I explained like I had no reservations but still hoped to sit in the garden area. But before I agreed to the table, I wanted to see the menu. After I perused the menu, truly deciding if this place had bites that could mesh with my desire for a table in the lovely, I went up to the host, with an intention to declare that I did want a sit. Before I spoke, the host asked me, "Do you still want to eat here?" I know it me nitpicking, but I felt like the question could have been phrased through a better service language filter. For instance, "Did our menu reveal something that tempt you?" Or even more simpler, "Would you like to dine with us?" the way she asked it, seemed to imply that she felt like we would be put-off by the menu after reviewing? Which leads me to think of reasons as to why she would not think I would like to eat at this eatery after reading the menu? Did you think the prices were to expensive for me? Did you think that the menu and its items would be intimidating for me? The list continues exhaustively. Language in service matters, and I may be an over-thinker or someone who finds flaws that can be ignored or I can simply just chill, but, all of this could have been avoided if the host was more attentive to her words, especially where there is a standard language to be used with guests at eateries of this caliber. In constrast, when Conrad and I were leaving a different staff member asked, How did you all enjoy everything this evening? Yes, the standard that I was looking for. The host sat us, not in the greenhouse, not in the dining room, but in a mini garden in between the two. I saw our table, and it seemed to be an extra table were overflow guess were kept. I did not want sit in this lesser garden, and the host explained that there was no chance for us to sit amongst the fairies, but offered a shortwait for the dining room. After the short wait, we went to the main dining room, and this time we saw a table that was perfect. The dining room was also dimly lit, truly a romantic setting, and in a word--- lovely. Conrad and I sat and ordered their famed corn bread, simply because it had top billing. And I wanted to hear the sweet notes of their top performer. And I am disappointed to say that this corn bread was at best basic, and at worst disappointing, simply because I have honestly had better. Let us just say that the cornbread did not have a deep honey taste, nor did it have, the crispy edges of other cornbread I have had. This bite did not checkmark the boxes of a wonderful skillet corn bread. But the stranger thing is that every other bite we did have was fantastic. Conrad and I shared the green tomatoes, the brussels, and the ricotta toast, with the ham. All of this was strong fare, and I appreciated the fried green tomatoes alot. Many restaurants do not serve the delicacy of the South, and in fact I only know of another place that serves them- the Attic in Long Beach. So these were a great treat, full stop, as they saw. Ironically, the Attic also has honey corn bread. The ricttota bread was my favorite thing of the night. It was delicious, and filling. The bread was crispy and fluffy, and a great balance of sweet, with the jam, and salty with the ham. The ricotta added pop of novelty since not a lot bites focus on ricotta. So basically this place is truly well worth a visit. I know I might be a party of one on this one, but I would maybe skip the cornbread. Conrad told me, as we were driving home, that I was probably in the vast minoritiy of folks who did not love it! read more
