It's been some time since I've been to Hatchet Hall and this most recent time was a bit disappointing. First off why is valet parking $17.50?! Also why did the valet attendant ask me why I wasn't tipping on the mobile cc processing thingy - because I was going to tip with cash that's why, but dang can I get my car first before asking for a tip?! (-1 star) Some pork pieces came out rare, so about three big pieces weren't even eaten (-1 star). Fries were soggy (-1 star) but seasoned well. Cornbread was still amazing. Crudo with cantaloupe was my favorite dish. Heirloom tomatoes and collard greens were alright. Again, just overall pretty disappointing. We arrived around noon on a Sunday and were able to snag a table without a reservation, but I believe we got the last one. I'd definitely recommend making a reservation if you're planning to visit. We started with the avocado toast, and honestly, it was the best avocado toast I've ever had. The honey drizzle and ham were unexpected additions that worked incredibly well together, putting a unique twist on a classic dish. We also ordered the shrimp and grits, which unfortunately didn't leave the same impression. The grits and gravy were absolutely delicious, rich, flavorful, and perfectly seasoned. The shrimp, however, was much too smoky for my taste. I could barely eat it. I'd heard so many rave reviews about this dish specifically, so I was really looking forward to trying it. I always appreciate a creative spin on a classic, but I think dialing back the smoky flavor would allow the other flavors to shine. Overall, I'd absolutely come back. We started with the fried green tomatoes, and they were a standout. I'm usually not a pimento cheese fan, but here it elevated the dish. I had seen the restaurant many times as we like to frequent the ice cream shop across the street. We finally stopped by for brunch to meet some friends. The service was very friendly, fast and attentive. Although the menu said that they "Kindly decline substitutions" they made my daughter's hamburger plain. I saw somewhere that they're not kid friendly and I'm really glad she enjoyed the burger. My husband and I shared the steak and eggs, deviled eggs & biscuits. Interestingly salty but also sweet from the honey on top, with bits of jalapeño pepper inside. Menu is seasonal with farm-to-table ingredients, so everything tasted fresh and earthy. The smoked trout dip & farmer's market salad were my favorite dishes, both surprisingly more flavorful than I expected. Sadly the short rib was too salty and needed more of the layered potato to balance it out - also $52 for a very small portion was overpriced in my opinion. Another thing to note was the hostess at the front was quite snarky and gave us attitude when we very kindly asked if they had matchboxes (I collect them). Went to have brunch over at Hatchet Hall. Aesthetic wise, I was super excited because the place looked so cute. My girlfriend planned a little brunch date for our anniversary, so I was pretty psyched. When we came in, we were greeted by a great host. He asked if we were celebrating our anniversary, congratulated us, and asked where we'd like to be seated. I asked for his recommendation, and we ended up in the middle section between the indoor dining area and the outdoor patio. Great choice, by the way! Our server was amazing. He greeted us, wished us a happy anniversary, brought us complimentary champagne, gave us his menu recommendations, and was warm and welcoming the entire time. Little touches like that definitely made the experience feel special. We ordered the cornbread, the breakfast sandwich, and a side of breakfast potatoes. The cornbread wasn't really my forte. To be fair, I've never had cornbread before, and it was a little too buttery for my taste. My girlfriend, on the other hand, really enjoyed it. I'd give it a 3/10. We sat for quite a while without anyone greeting us, even as I watched other waiters warmly welcoming tables nearby. I eventually had to flag down a busser just to get someone to come over. When our server did arrive, her attitude felt rushed and a bit off. While she warmed up as the evening progressed, the initial cold start definitely rubbed me the wrong way. The Food: The menu still has its highlights. The cornbread is always a hit, and we enjoyed the butter lettuce wedge, market greens, and grilled mushrooms. For sides, we had the mashed potatoes and fries, eventually finishing with the apple crumble, which were all solid. However, the kitchen pacing was completely non-uniform. My party's dishes came out well ahead of mine, and the dry-aged ribeye arrived last, after a noticeably long wait. It's hard to enjoy a group dinner when the main course arrives after the sides have already been sitting there. Final Thoughts: I still tipped 25% because I know it's a team effort, but this wasn't the same high-level experience I've had here in the past. My new favorite restaurant in Los Angeles! Since this review, I have been to this restaurant twice due to how amazing the food is. Firstly, I came for dinner on a Saturday night and it's absolutely beautiful inside. I loved the dim lighting and the lights which create a truly romantic experience. Service was great and our servers were amazing. They explained the menu throughly and explained how the items were family style. For drinks, we ordered the pong express which was delicious. Service: We checked in for our reservation with the young man at the front, who asked whether we'd prefer to sit inside or outside. I initially said inside, but when we got there, I gave him the look of uncertainty and admitted, "I lied... can we sit outside?" Mashed Potatoes - Creamy, rich, and delicious. My husband paired these with his steak and had zero regrets. 45-Day Dry Aged Ribeye - Incredibly tender. And Serena our server was attentive and went out of her way to accommodate us throughout the meal. We sat inside near the bar which was lively and had a nice atmosphere. The atmosphere of the restaurant is spacious, never squeezed into your neighbors, and transportive. We enjoy not being right up next to someone. While the food quality is not always as good as it's been in the past, as chefs have changed etc, it's still pretty good and we wouldn't miss out on the cornbread! They are usually pretty busy, but if you're flexible they will get you seated and we appreciate it. The branzino was just average, lacking in flavor and a bit burnt (67$). The pork (54$) was raved about but was nothing special either, albeit better than the branzino. We had a solid experience at Hatchet Hall! I'm a big fan of their sister restaurant, Dunsmoor, but lately it has been quite difficult to book. We were planning to be near the area of Hatchet Hall and decided to finally make a reservation for dinner. We were seated in their middle patio, the area between the inside seating and outdoor seating. It was private but it did get quite dark quickly. I got a cocktail ("eastern medicine" with mezcal) and my husband got a glass of wine. The cocktail was solid, not very strong, but enjoyable. For food, we ordered the cornbread, hamachi crudo, fried green tomatoes, and citrus salad for our starters. For our main we ordered the pork chop. The starters came out extremely quickly, and I enjoyed them all. The cornbread is quite similar to the version at Dunsmoor, though that version comes in a cast iron skillet which does seem to make the crust of the cornbread a bit thicker, but it's otherwise pretty much the same. A must-order. The fried green tomatoes had a great texture and the hamachi crudo was fresh and balanced. The citrus salad was light and enjoyable. The pork chop was coursed out a bit later. I'm typically not a huge fan of pork chop but I was open to giving theirs a try. I thought it was solid but I wouldn't get it again. For dessert, the options all looked quite tempting. We opted for 2 desserts - a strawberry shortcake biscuit and their chocolate chip cookies. The biscuit wasn't as good as I had hoped it would be. It had fresh strawberry jam and whipped cream, but as a whole it mostly felt heavy and wasn't really doing it for me. The cookies on the other hand were quite good. I'm always on the hunt for a fantastic chocolate chip cookie, and their version checked that box. It came with 2 large cookies so we took one home to enjoy another day. I've been hearing great things about Hatchet Hall in Culver City, and since the Amex Platinum comes with a Resy credit, I really had no reason to delay the visit any longer. It was fairly easy to find an opening on a Sunday night. They offer valet, or you can find street parking nearby, just be sure to read the signs carefully as many streets require a permit. Once we arrived, we were greeted by the host and seated in the fancy courtyard. This is definitely a place to take a date; the vibe is perfect with dim lighting, candles on every table, and lots of plants. The semi-enclosed outdoor seating is a nice touch. Just like everyone says, the waiter highly recommended the cast iron cornbread. I'm going to be honest: I wasn't a huge fan. It was a bit too sweet and oily for my liking. I'm glad I tried it to see what the hype was about, but I probably wouldn't recommend it. However, the main courses really impressed us. The Elk Loin was tender and flavorful, and the brown bacon bits & fig went perfectly with the dish. It was a wonderfully plated and tasty course. The Branzino was another standout, cooked to perfection with a hint of fire, tender, and juicy. It's probably the best grilled Branzino I've ever had. Usually, when the first dish disappoints, I don't expect the rest of the meal to be exceptional. Street parking is difficult on a Friday night. Valet is available. Arrived on time for my 8pm reservation. Waited for several minutes for hostess to come to her post. Waited several more minutes for table to be prepared for me. Server was very attentive and offered good recommendations. Atmosphere was attractive, modern, nice to be in. Not too loud. Elk was good, seasoned and presented nicely. I had to get it as I don't remember having elk before. $55 Mushrooms were okay. Good flavor. Sort of large chewy chunks. Bacon and pine nuts were a plus. $21 Broccolini was good. Good flavor, well done. $18 No additional fees or surcharges. Were added to the menu prices. read more

Absolutely love coming to Hatchet Hall, it's always a delicious time whether its with a friend to catch up or a larger team dinner. There's a reason the cornbread is a favorite, it's full of flavor both sweet and savory, soft on the inside while being slightly crispy on the outside. Also love the rotating menu which brings in seasonal items. Every time I've visited I leave smiling and with a full belly. The drinks here are delicious as well and there's a good variety of options from cocktails to wines. Indoor seating gives off a darker moody ambiance whereas the outdoor seating feels more open and charming with their lights and plants. The service here is incredible, they're very attentive, friendly, and helpful at making recommendations. Highly recommend making reservations in advance. As for parking there is valet, or there's street meter parking as well. read more

Hatchet Hall is a nice place to take photos in LA, but the experience was a little disappointing compared to what I saw on TikTok. They're famous for the cornbread, but honestly, it was the least interesting thing on the table for me. The shrimp dish and avocado toast were much better and actually stood out. The service was not great because they didn't really hear us or check in much. We were also seated in a corner near the handwashing area and dirty dish station, which made the atmosphere less enjoyable. Overall, it was okay, but not as impressive as I expected. read more
