Good spot for brunch. We didn't have a reservation but it was Sunday on Labor Day weekend and we took advantage of folks leaving L.A. for the long weekend. Even with that, only bar seating was available. We were a party of three, so we happily took it and were immediately seated. Maya, our server, was assisting those of us seated at the bar. She definitely added to our experience. She was friendly, funny and attentive. Refreshing for nowadays when customer service seems to have disappeared from the service industry. Thank you, Maya! The server was really friendly and patient as we worked through the menu. We all know the star of the show is the cornbread- literally no question. Everything was delicious and way too much food for the three of us to finish. My personal favorites were the cast iron cornbread and the smoked ocean trout dip. I also really liked the creamed corn with the chicken dish but preferred the cook of the pork chop as I found it much juicier and flavorful. Solid little spot! Swung by for a late lunch / early dinner, and was able to snag a seat without a reservation inside. Theyve got valet but you could probably find a spot in the neighborhood streets if necessary. Grabbed a few things, but the ones that stood out were the famous cornmeal pancake thing that you've probably seen all over socials. Its surprisingly well balanced and not overly sweet or savort, but also its MOIST AF Boi! haha honestly probably the best bite of the meal. Grabbed the daily special which was hamachi crudo. Very fresh fish and overall a really nice refreshing dish. You'll have to forgive the rest of this review because i went a while ago and cant remember what else we all ordered, but those were the standouts. I would argue that some ppl may say its overpriced a bit, and it may well be, but Id say the quality is up there to even things out a bit, so take that as you may. TLDR: the food was great but the experience wasn't. We love Old Man Bar, we visit a few times a month so we finally decided to try Hatchet Hall. Service was friendly but the experience was very slow. It took 30 minutes to get drinks and there were long lulls between courses that we took most of our mains to go. Service was very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu with great recommendations. The other note is that it is SO dark in there! Go after sunset and you won't be able to see your food or what's on the table. The workers were all really nice and apologetic because of the no moderation policy, but it wasn't their fault. This being said, they probably do not modify anything for those with allergies, so I would skip out on this place. I ordered the hatchet hall plate (didn't finish, very mediocre, I love arugula and I didn't even like their arugula, bacon mediocre, potatoes were very salty and dry). The smoked trout dip & farmer's market salad were my favorite dishes, both surprisingly more flavorful than I expected. Sadly the short rib was too salty and needed more of the layered potato to balance it out - also $52 for a very small portion was overpriced in my opinion. Firstly, I came for dinner on a Saturday night and it's absolutely beautiful inside. I loved the dim lighting and the lights which create a truly romantic experience. We had a solid experience at Hatchet Hall! I'm a big fan of their sister restaurant, Dunsmoor, but lately it has been quite difficult to book. We were planning to be near the area of Hatchet Hall and decided to finally make a reservation for dinner. We were seated in their middle patio, the area between the inside seating and outdoor seating. It was private but it did get quite dark quickly. I got a cocktail ("eastern medicine" with mezcal) and my husband got a glass of wine. The cocktail was solid, not very strong, but enjoyable. For food, we ordered the cornbread, hamachi crudo, fried green tomatoes, and citrus salad for our starters. For our main we ordered the pork chop. The starters came out extremely quickly, and I enjoyed them all. The cornbread is quite similar to the version at Dunsmoor, though that version comes in a cast iron skillet which does seem to make the crust of the cornbread a bit thicker, but it's otherwise pretty much the same. A must-order. The fried green tomatoes had a great texture and the hamachi crudo was fresh and balanced. The citrus salad was light and enjoyable. The pork chop was coursed out a bit later. I'm typically not a huge fan of pork chop but I was open to giving theirs a try. I thought it was solid but I wouldn't get it again. For dessert, the options all looked quite tempting. We opted for 2 desserts - a strawberry shortcake biscuit and their chocolate chip cookies. The biscuit wasn't as good as I had hoped it would be. It had fresh strawberry jam and whipped cream, but as a whole it mostly felt heavy and wasn't really doing it for me. The cookies on the other hand were quite good. I'm always on the hunt for a fantastic chocolate chip cookie, and their version checked that box. It came with 2 large cookies so we took one home to enjoy another day. My girlfriend planned a little brunch date for our anniversary, so I was pretty psyched. When we came in, we were greeted by a great host. It's hard to find the words to really encapsulate the feelings and taste I got from dining here at Hatchet Hall. The food was delectable and although it was very very busy (an hour wait but luckily was quickly seated at the high top tables) I was worried we would get overlooked by our waiter given the high volume of people. Our waiter was so lovely and polite, she came by quite often to check in with us and would even refill our waters, so it was very pleasant. Definitely would not come here for any type of first date or talking because it is super loud inside. But! the food speaks for itself. Stopped by for brunch with a friend on a Sunday morning; it was easy to get a table! Everything was delicious, we shared a cornbread, short rib hash, and pork belly. Perfect vibey atmosphere and service was great. There's a parking lot but also street parking. Will definitely come back! read more

Quaint brunch spot in the heart of Culver City! Great indoor and outdoor ambiance for a vintage like feel. Brunch has a few staple choices if you like traditional options or seafood. I definitely recommend some of their sweet dishes over their savory unless you love fish! read more

Came in with high expectations and was disappointed. They had a couple highlights but I lost my urge to take pictures after tasting a few of the things we ordered. The shishito cornbread was sooo darn good, oysters, ricotta toast and the branzino were also a highlight. We felt tricked into ordering so many things. In total we had 13 plates with 3 cocktails. Our waitress (who was hard to understand) was telling us that each plate except the main course plates were shareable portions for 3-4 people. No waaaay. Some had 4 pieces of food on it but they def were not shareable if we ordered so much. Our friend even asked "is this enough" and she said "I think so, you have kids here too" (6 and 2 year old). No way they were gonna eat a good portion. I followed up asking "is this too much?" To which it was ignored. Plates were "thrown" on the table instead of being placed. Just fyi to families with picky eaters, not much for them to eat here. The ambiance in this restaurant is superb. You feel at home and yet the experience is elevated. The service was fine, though our sever forgot our cornbread and we had to ask for it once we had finished our entrees. Let's talk food. The cornbread, despite being so very late to arrive, was scrumptious. The peppers gave it a little kick which elevated the bread. The butter on top was heaven. The steak and eggs was perfectly cooked. The rub on the steak was not overwhelming as things with coffee tend to be. The shrimp and grits was just ok. The flavor was bland and the texture of the grits was odd. I would but order again. The cocktails were refreshing and well balanced. FYI there's a parking lot but it fills up quick. You will most likely have to find street parking which is not difficult. read more
