The location and vibe was great, but the brunch food was pretty mediocre and service was meh. WALK is located in a fun neighborhood to explore in Asheville, but their brunch menu leaves a lot to be desired. After trying to find a breakfast place with no wait on a Sunday morning, we decided to try a visit to WALK. I guess there's a reason there wasn't a wait... When we arrived, it took a while for us to get seated, but the server was friendly and helpful as she took our order. However, after we ordered, she completely forgot about our drinks and the food took way too long. There was a lot of waiting for how empty the place felt. The food itself was pretty disappointing. Nothing really stood out, and I felt like I could cook something better at home (and I'm not the best home chef). If you plan to dine here, I'd recommend skipping breakfast and try their lunch or dinner menu. Maybe it'll be better. read more

I was really disappointed in my last visit. We come from Raleigh and eat here based on past experiences. The wait staff seemed to be basic transportation for the food from kitchen. I get it, i'd have a bad attitude if I was a waiter, which is specifically why I don't do that job. The wings smelled like they'd gone bad and one bite didn't give me any better confidence about them so I traded them for street tacos. Those fell flat but the issue was flavor there. They were kind tasteless for pork. It seemed like bland chicken. There were so many flies we had to keep all our food and drinks covered which led staff to try and take things we were eating and despite telling them we had flies dive bombing us they kept doing it. WALK is a great place to eat, drink, and/or watch a sporting event. I've had the food several times and it is up to high Asheville standards. This is complimented by a fantastic beer selection and timely, courteous service. One of my favorite aspects is their big screen projector which they use to watch sporting events. They have booths, high tops, regular tables and bar. So whatever your preference, you're covered. I love how WALK is great venue for most any occasion (i.e. just drinks, food and drinks, watching a game, group dinners, etc.). read more

Just stopped in for a quick lunch passing through on our way to TN. Husband had the turkey club which he said was fantastic. I had the street tacos which were so inexpensive I almost felt like a thief (yay, taco Tuesday! If these are $1.25, other taco places have a loooong way to go). Son had the chicken tenders which seemed to be made on site, not frozen. Everything was good. The ambiance was fun. The transfigured garage feel reminded me of Fuel in Charleston, SC. We were traveling out of town and got a recommendation for this place to have great food and brews. We had just come off a hike and were super hungry and cold. The female bartender was less than friendly, and served us a beer. The male bartender, took our order, we ordered a ton of food and were looking forward to the soup and playing a game of pool. We asked that our 3 courses be spread out so we could enjoy our time there, and after 5 minutes they bring out all the food at once, with a "So sorry guys, but you get all your food at once even though you specifically asked for it not to." And then, as if having 6 platters of hot food in front of us wasn't enough, the female bartender began sweeping all around us kicking up dust and dirt as if to say, you and your food are the least important thing here. It sucked. I bartended for 8 years, and if the kitchen or I screwed up I would go out of my way to make it right. The male bartender did bring us a picture of the old market The Walk used to be. Confusing as it was, we tipped 10% and left. Perhaps they should hire people that have knowledge in the food service industry and if the place is empty at least treat the customers that are in front of you well. Cool atmosphere, unique menu at an affordable price! So we stopped by here for brunch/lunch when we took a day trip up to Asheville and it definitely had a trendy and hipster vibe to it. It was seat yourself and the waitress was quick to come over to us and hand us menus when we sat down. We ordered the apple and pecan salad with tempeh and the crab cake Benedict. Both were quite good especially for the price we paid! The salad was $7 (the tempeh add on had an upcharge) and the crab cake Benedict was $11! I feel like anywhere else you would be paying a couple of dollars more for the same meal. Overall, the food was enjoyable and satisfying for a quick and cheap bite to eat without sacrificing the quality of food. I wouldn't go as far to say that it was amazing and would tell people to go out of their way to come here but If you are in the area and you need a place to eat you can't go wrong by coming here. read more

The WALK is a great spot in West Asheville to gather with friends and share an awesome evening. It's not a restaurant, it's not a bar, it's more of a modern day public house. It's spacious and has ginormous ceilings. There's ample seating for tons of people, even on crowded nights like Taco Tuesday. I got together with a few fellow Yelpers here last night and was pleased that we chose this place for our meet up. We found a table to share nearly immediately, and our server, Stevie, greeted us as soon as we were settled. The Walk has an ample selection of delicious local brews, and Noble Cider, something I didn't try until last night. I'm not typically a fan of cider, but I had no problem sucking down a Noble in record time. It'll be a fun diversion from my typical hop and malt based beverages. But I digress. The food was super affordable and quite tasty. I have only eaten at The WALK once before and I was, sadly, disappointed by that meal. The good news is, I obviously ordered the wrong thing. Last night was much better, a really accurate view into that which they did well. Hard shell tacos fro $1.50? How often do you get hard shell tacos somewhere other than Taco Bell? It's like being a kid in the 80's. Other winners were the sweet potato tater tots, and the wings. The wings were actually super awesome. Not battered, fried to perfection, I got the super hot sauce and mild sauce mixed together to adorn them, and it was still face tinglingly exciting. We hung out for around three hours, and there was never a point where I felt as though we were being rushed, or creating an inconvenience for our server or the bar. In fact, I can't recall a time where we had to request a refill or another round. Stevie was awesome, and ever present when needed. We had a fairly large group, and I was buying beers for people, but Stevie had no problem separating our checks in delivering them to the correct parties the first time. Super Kudos. read more

After a long day of travel from Florida to Asheville, we were needing some sustenance. Tired, a bit grubby and starving, our friends took us over to WALK for dinner on Sunday night. It was not early when we arrived, but WALK was still quite busy. We were seated at one of the few open tables. The atmosphere in here is just like I like. Casual, industrial yet cozy and inviting. I was the oddball who didn't want a beer, and got a perfectly executed gin martini. For apps we ordered the fried pickles and the chips and salsa. The pickles were terrific, but the breading had a hard time sticking to the pickle, still yummy tho. For main, I ordered a steak with brussells sprouts. It was divine. The steak was cooked to perfection and the sprouts were also crispy and charred in the way brussells sprouts should be, almost no bitterness to be found. I would recommend WALK for fresh, well prepared food to anyone in West Asheville! read more

I can't say enough about how great the food and service were at Walk. Out server was awesome and the food amazing. If you're in Asheville you have to check out Walk for fresh, quality ingredient sandwiches. I had the turkey melt which was really good turkey and havarti with greens and caramelized onions and fresh cucumber slices on warm fresh naan. Simply the best sandwich I've had. I also had the sweet potato tots which were homemade not the frozen type and went so well with house made hot sauce. My husband had the steak sandwich on fresh made roll with greens. The steak was seared and tender. We ended the meal with a shared homemade vanilla cupcake which was moist and delicious with some of the best buttercream icing I've had. We went back to WALK for a bite and a bit to drink, and to watch the Ducks beat the Buckeyes. The Ducks disappointed us, but for what it is WALK was good -- good service, good drinks, good prices. By game time, WALK was pretty much full, with a laid-back West Asheville crowd, mostly Ohio State fans and do-not-carers. Personally, I think the reason Oregon lost was those depressing, ugly gray Nike uniforms. The food -- we had some wings and the 2 oz. burgers, one with regular fries and one with sweet potato tots -- was about what you'd expect from bar food. We weren't up for the regular 6 oz. Hickory Nut Farm burgers, but I'd say 2 oz. is a bit TOO small. Ours came out pretty dry and overdone. I'd suggest boosting the small burgers to maybe 3 or 4 oz. -- that would be about right. With one appetizer, two mini-entrees with a side each, a total of two cocktails (ginger and bourbon, $6) and three beers (two local drafts and a bottle of PBR, $2 to $4.50) our tab came to about $55 including tax and tip. Fairly reasonable. Sometimes parking can be an issue on this part of Haywood Road, but this night we lucked out with a space just across the street from WALK. The projection TV screen isn't as big as I had remembered, but it's still pretty good. WALK just turned it on when the game started. Would probably go here more frequently if we live in West Asheville. read more

Random pick off of here while traveling. The only bad part was the wait. I had the BLT, added turkey and avocado - perfection. The mac and cheese came from heaven. I have no idea what was in it, but oh my goodness I will crave it forever. For apps, we ordered the fried pickles (unusually whole instead of sliced) with a chipotle dip that was out of this world. We also got the chips with queso and salsa. The salsa had cilantro which wasn't a total table favorite, but the queso made up for it. Thinking the queso had diced jalapeños, which gave it a bit of a small kick and flavor. The vibe and atmosphere was fun and lively. Our waiter was polite, but could have been a bit more friendly - albeit he was likely tired as it was 8pm. read more

If you have ever heard of the Good-Fast-Cheap triangle (where its impossible to get all 3 -- you can only get 2 effectively), it doesn't apply to WALK. Long Island Iced Teas. Ive had them everywhere (I know... LUSH!) and their homemade sour mix makes them the best in town. Wings. The hit-list in AVL is way too long for me, and WALK wins best wings of ANYWHERE Ive been. Crispy, meaty, juicy, just the right size, just the right amount of sauce. Taco Tuesday. $1.50 fresh yummy tacos. Need I say more? Hours. They seem to be open ANY time Id like them to be. Ive never once arrived there and they were closed. To boot, they have table-Ms-Pac-Man, a huge wall that projects big games on "TV", a pool table,and a long bar, yet it's kid friendly. (So you can have family time OR escape the babies if thats your thing (and it is DEF my thing). My only complaint is the low table chairs (the old skool desk chairs from grade school if you are over 30 and can remember ;-) They are heavy and uncomfortable, But WHO CARES when they DO have hi-top tables, the bar and now... booths. And besides, everything else is the BOMB. But this place would get SIX stars if they changed the chairs (hint hint). Way to go, WALK. My girlfriend and I visit you 3+ times a week, far more than any other bar or restaurant in town. We love you. read more

I came here for drinks so this 5 star rating is based on their drinks only. The ambiance is great and this place very spacious. There is a pool table with cool collage of art on the wall connecting the entrance to the bar... oh, there is a juke box, too. And there is a large number of tables and seats, but they are not too crowded. I loved the music they were playing the whole time. All these garage doors reminded me of some of my old favorites in NYC. So yeah, the decor and ambiance are amazing. My friends and I tried 3 of their cocktails- whiskey ginger, gin fizzy, and St Germain cocktail. Priced moderately, they were very accommodating even though we weren't dining at all. Waitress was very nice and we didn't have to wait a moment to get our drinks served. While I sampled what everyone else was having, the St Germain cocktail was the best! I would love to come back here next time I visit Ashville and try some food as well. read more

So Taco Tuesday is the reason I hit this place up every now and then. Taco Tuesday Night is the $1.50 per taco, so order a few and a beer and you have a very affordable meal. They have a pool table and plenty of tables as well as a nice long bar. Staff is friendly and good about refilling your glass of beer. Parking can be a challenge as it is all street parking and at certain nights the Admiral patrons can have it so folks are walking a bit to get to this establishment, but not a big deal. read more

I referred to this place to some people as "The WALK" which caused confusion, so don't do that. Just call it WALK. Or West Asheville Lounge and Kitchen if you're feeling fancy. The food is way delish. I tried the sweet potato tots and have a favorable opinion on them, despite not even being a tots kinda person. The mac and cheese also got the nod of approval from us. Perhaps a bit of truffle essence? The 6 oz. Big Cheeseburger ($8.50) is solid. A little version (2 oz.) is also available for $4, how cute. Even more than the food, the service stood out to me. Because it was a Saturday night, we had to park ourselves at the bar as all of the tables were occupied. The sandwiches are supposed to come with a pickle spear; when I pointed out to a woman that I said spear was missing, she cheerfully brought me a small bowl full of pickles. Super nice! Our bartender was attentive, and our food came out in a timely fashion too. I tried the Noble Tart cider and may be in love. Plus, it's just a gorgeous shade as well. I also love the fact that you can order beers in half pint sizes which are perfect for me. As for parking, there are a few adjacent spots, but more than likely you'll have to park a block or two away on the street. This place was the BOMB!!! We were on vacation visiting the South and our first evening in Asheville we found WALK! I had the veggie burger, sweet potato tatter tots and the Mac and cheese! Not a traditional veggie burger.... it was served on naan, but the flavors were awesome. The only thing that caused me to put it down we're the tatter tots...which they should sell by the bag because I could have popped them all night long. The Mac was mild, cheesy and tasty. If we ever go back to Asheville we'll be eating again at the WALK. read more

I've been to WALK several times and it's always been unremarkable, but I just had the best meal there! We tried three of their specials, the pulled pork with a carmelized pear bbq sauce, grilled zucchini, carmelized onions, and blue cheese and roasted hazelnuts. It was tremendous! We also got the bistro filet with a garlic parmesean truffle sauce, roasted sweet potato wedges and green beans. Omg! And the salmon filet with rosemary goat cheese parsnip mash was to die for. Burger seemed like a frozen patty heated up that was so dry we couldn't eat it, the soup was flavorless and was pretty much flavored water, the Mac and cheese was along the same lines. Went here for the Alabama-FSU game last weekend. I had Facebooked them asking if the game would be shown, and one of the owners (a college football fan) wrote back and confirmed they had TVs and a large projection screen. They even turned the game sound on, which is something some bars won't do. Good crowd, good food, attentive service, affordable drinks. We got there at the end of the Michigan game and our eventual server told us that an entire table right in front of the projector screen was leaving so we could wait and get their table. I even met the other owner and talked with him for a while about the historic building and how the area is growing. I'll def go back for when I'm back in Asheville, especially for games, RTR. Used to be a great spot right down the road but they just stopped giving a fuck. If you have any type of dietary restrictions DO NOT EAT HERE! They will say they can handle it but then they will bring you food covered in what you specifically cannot eat. If you correct them and try to get new food they will go back into the kitchen for 5 min and bring you the same goddamn plate. read more
