I am writing this specifically in regard to the pharmacy and the drive up window. If I could check no stars, I would :(. The window service takes an extraordinarily long time, as in 30 minutes. You can't back out so you are truly stuck.I am not sure if it is a staffing issue but the window should effectively be closed. This was the longest wait but not the first time. I will never use that option again. Of course waiting in line inside is problematic as well. Even if you opt for express pickup they do not honor it. Ugh, I may have to return to CVS. read more

Unhappy with the pharmacy. Walgreens Encinitas. When pharmacy staff could not find my new prescription - phoned in the day before. The pharmacy staff blamed my doctor's office for not calling Rx in. My doctor's office had documentation of Rx being phoned in the prior day. Also website shows pharmacy to open at 10 am that day the pharmacy opened late. read more

Just relocated to the area and this is my closest Walgreens Pharmacy. The automated pharmacist/voice prompted bot is designed to prevent you from speaking to a live person. This is infuriating. I've called several times, and when I do get through to what I believe to be a live person on the other end, I am immediately put on hold music, never to be attended to again. Giant fail. I just moved all of my prescriptions to RiteAid on Manchester and it was a world of a different experience. Where they busy? Yes, really busy. But they where able to get all of my prescriptions set up and my health insurance set up in minutes. They greet me on a first name basis and I am so happy to have landed there. This Walgreens is chronically under staffed. When sick, to have to return to the pharmacy three times in one day is unacceptable. The front cashier is also over worked. Walgreens must need to pay people more! Being sick and waiting two hours for an RX and having to make multiple trips is not acceptable. Transferring all of my RX back to CVS or Pharmaca. Walgreens also has filled my RX incorrectly with incorrect amounts. The drive through line crowds the parking lot so people can't park or get in the drive through line. Insurance issues are not dealt with in a timely manner and I have arrived to pick up an RX and told that there is no one on staff to fill them. GET IT TOGETHER WALGREENS!!!! read more

Just waited 45-50 minutes in the drive-through line to pick up a prescription at this Walgreens. Not the first time I've had a long wait but this was really frustrating; once you enter the line you can't back out as there are usually people behind you in a driveway enclosed on both sides. I use the drive-through as I'm sure many people do for convenience and also to avoid unnecessary exposure to Covid or other respiratory illnesses by waiting inside. More than once the online app or a phone call with the staff said rx was or would be ready only to finally get to the window and it's not. Come back in an hour or so. read more

My 1 year old son has been uncomfortably itching, so we showed up right at 10a to have the prescription filled only to be told that there wasn't enough help to have it done (otherwise we could wait a while). We opted to wait for a text message update. Ended up calling back at 3:15 and waiting for over 5 minutes only to be hung up on by Bill after 1 "hello" check. I had muted myself and couldn't even reach for my phone to answer before the line disconnected. Had to call back and wait almost another 5 minutes before being told the prescription was ready. Thanks for the text! A previous time before this, we had a question about a medicine because it had "lactose" in the name and our son has a really bad reaction to cows milk protein. We have not got an official allergy diagnosis, but the pharmacist thought we should just "give it a try" to see if he would have a reaction. He also suggested we could give him Benadryl if he has a reaction (which our son is far from the appropriate age for). I don't write a lot of reviews, but this place has been nothing short of a nightmare. read more

I went to Walgreens to fill some prescriptions after being treated Express Care UCSD. I made sure my prescriptions were in process and was instructed to return in 35 minutes. When I returned, I went to the counter to see if the medications were ready. I was informed that they were and proceeded to give the cashier my insurance card and she (a middle aged Caucasian women with glasses) said loudly "we thought this was a cash pay - you will have to wait while I run your card". She said it in a loud, almost angry tone, acting like I was inconveniencing her. While I was quite ill and did not expect any special treatment, her body language, lack of basic kindness to me was very discouraging. I obtained my prescriptions left Walgreens and when I got to my car, I checked to see if I received all 3 medications - I had not. I went back in to Walgreens and the same technician said, "oh, your back" I handed her my After Visit Summary and told her I did not receive the third medication. She looked at my summary, circled the the medication and said "its not available" I asked her if any one should have told me and she said "I'm telling you now "not available". I work in health care and its a tough job but I ever spoke to a patient in this manner, I would be counseled immediately. I'm not expecting anything from Walgreens but your mission " As a health and well-being enterprise, our purpose is to inspire more joyful lives that better health through....etc does not match what I experienced on January 5th, 2023 and I will not be returning to this Walgreens in Encinitas ever. read more

This pharmacy is THE WORST. Clear your schedule because you are going to be waiting a long time here only to find out that they were kidding when they said your prescription was ready for pickup. If you get out of here in less than 30 minutes consider yourself lucky. And that's in the drive through, and if you're lucky enough to get your prescription. When I arrived for the third time to try and get my prescription which they said was in, by the time I got there they had sold it to someone else and told me to come back yet again. Alice in the pharmacy was even pretty snooty about it and tried to blame me, even though it was her and her staff's incompetence that is giving this pharmacy the well deserved reputation as the worst in town. read more

Always a line, either inside or for outside window. Slow service, not enough pharmacists and technicians, nd ones there are overworked; too small a pharmacy space.; waits for telephone pick up. We got fed up after many years of wasting our time waiting for service and changed to Costco. SO much better service. read more

The pharmacy staff here is very rude. I had a coupon for some medication that wasn't covered by my insurance and her response was "oh so you're going to make me redo the whole thing just because you have a coupon". Aside from that you sit at the window for pick up a long time before being acknowledged and when you do get acknowledged they aren't friendly. read more

They always take way too long to review your prescription. Forget your meds and you have to call and be on hold for 10 minutes. I have serious withdrawals with out my meds I ordered them 5 days before I ran out to be delivered . It didn't come to my house in time and I felt sick from the withdrawals for 2 days . I am new to San Diego and cannot recommend the lead pharmacist Dr. Parisa (sp?) and her team enough. They have worked with me to transfer all my prescriptions to this location. If I could give 0 stars I would. Absolutely awful customer service. I was on vacation and transferred a prescription there on 10/8. The technician on the phone was very curt and I wasn't able to ask any questions (because she hung up on me before I could). She told me 8 PM. I showed up a bit early and she said it wasn't ready, they didn't have a pharmacist there and it wouldn't be ready for 15-20 minutes. I decided to come back in the AM right when they opened. My prescription still wasn't ready. I had to wait. Pharmacist was also curt, cut me off when I attempted to ask a question. Luckily I don't have to use them ever again. read more

Just spent 30 minutes waiting to pickup one prescription and didn't even get an obligatory "sorry for your wait" or eye contact at any time. At least pretend like you care. My insurance requires I go to Walgreens, otherwise would never go there. The drive through seems to take priority so I try to do that when I can so at least I can listen to music while I wait vs stand and make small talk with all of the other customers forced to use Walgreens. If you need a toiletry item they have them, but prices are a good 25-30 percent markup from other retail stores. Would avoid if I could. read more

The pharmacist, Ryan, was very helpful over the telephone, when I called about picking up an over/the/ counter medication. Also, the sales clerk at the drive-thru was friendly and responsive as I drove through, to pick up the meds without getting out of my car. read more

I would leave zero stars if possible. There is always a long line. Every person in line and the counter are rolling their eyes because we're waiting there for hours even for the smallest transaction. I've had several instances where I dropped off prescriptions and they forgot to fill it. I had to call to remind them. I would validate everything is good before I leave because of these issues - they say all is good and prescription will be ready in a few hours. Three days later they tell me , after I called them, to say my doctor forgot the date. I found out Walgreens corporate requires this pharmacy to call the doctor to verify all prescriptions from outside Encinitas. Apparently this is done only by stores that have had several mistakes issuing prescriptions. I used to use Walgreens in Coronado and loved the service. Since moving to Encinitas , every one of the same medications has issues required more complicated paperwork and all with delays. RUN from this place. Go to the CVS or any other pharmacy. When I complained why I had to find out 3 days later on Friday afternoon that they have issues w my prescription, the pharmacist tried to say it was my fault?? I can't say enough. I pray somebody at Walgreens corporate comes in and does a whole revamp to fix this. They're playing with people's health and lives. Disgusting. read more

3 stars for the store in general, but 1 star for the pharmacy. All these other ratings for the pharmacy that are 1-2 stars are spot on. Overall, I think this place cannot handle the volume of customers they have, ESPECIALLY in the pharmacy. THE STORE: The people who work here are nice and friendly, but if I have to buy 4 items, it is almost guaranteed that 1 of them is out. I don't think I have ever come here and gotten everything I needed. I live right in the middle of this location and the one in Vista on Cannon and Melrose, and the prices are slightly higher at the Vista location but I think I'm going to stick with that one because I'm more likely to get everything I need. THE PHARMACY: Like people are saying, it's getting ridiculous. Every time I go here, it has been at least 25 minutes. Once 45 and I ended up empty handed. The last time, my doctor called in a refill. I waited 2 days and came. Only part of it was ready and they didn't even tell me that. My only indication was the price and I asked. They said it would be ready by the end of the week. I wasn't going to waste my time, so I called a full week later. It took over 30 minutes on hold before someone answered. It was about 10:30am at this point and the pharmacist said she could have my order ready in the next 3 hours. I came around 4 and it was not ready. I waited in a line for almost a half hour and walked away with nothing. They said I should wait and that it would be ready soon. I didn't believe them so I left. I am so over this pharmacy. It's all about WAIT, WAIT, WAIT. Go to the pharmacy. 20 minutes to get to the front of the line. Call. Another 15 or 20 minutes. Waiting for an approval and for them to get the approval - days. And then no one calls you. The pharmacy tech says they lost employees so they are short staffed. NOT MY PROBLEM! read more

The last two times getting my prescriptions filled here has been a nightmare. My last prescription had some delays on getting filled, but with my current prescription, on Thursday (when it was first sent over) they said it would be ready Monday, on Monday they said Tuesday, and today they said it would be ready either tomorrow or Thursday. They still aren't even 100% sure if my prescription will arrive in tomorrow's shipment. If they had told me it would take a week to get my prescription filled ahead of time, I would've been able to choose another pharmacy. Today I waited 20 minutes on hold before the system hung up on me and I had to call back and wait on hold a second time just to find out there has been another delay. The store itself isn't that bad, but steer clear of the pharmacy. read more

Breaking up isn't that hard to do. I go through pharmacies like hookers go through condoms, I think. I mean I wouldn't know about that. Really! I swear! The great thing about pharmacies is that they love to lure you in by giving gift cards to switch prescriptions to their place. In this case I was given a $25.00 store check. Thank you Walgreen's. This just goes to show, I can be bought. Apparently for very little. If you've read my reviews of competing pharmacies you'll see that I I've had problems with a few and though I know they have rules, I can't help but think that the hired help is at least 90% to blame. Getting to the point... Walgreen's made this transaction clean and easy so I give it 4 stars. Would have been 5 stars but on Christmas Eve a clerk directed me to an open line that had not cleared out the previous customer yet and as result cost me 15 minutes in another line before he called me back to his lane only to discover that the gift card I tried to purchase would not connect to the server so I left empty handed and frustrated. I was privileged to a free show of "people behaving badly" while waiting in the pharmacy line. In attempt to keep this short I'll just mention a few quotes and notation of this wonderful display of the angry woman demanding service she was not entitled to. Bad lady - "Excuse me" she says as she pushes past me in line. Bad lady - handing cell phone to clerk - "Here, hang up that phone and talk on my mobile and you might learn something". Clerk on phone being polite - "Hello, Yes ok. I understand. Thank you" Bad lady - "Well, where's my syringes and i want to speak to your manager?" Manager - Calmly says - " Sorry but your insurance does not cover the syringes". Bad lady - blah blah blah (very loud) Just give me my $25.00 gift check and give me some free syringes because you are not going above and beyond the call of duty and customer service plus more blah blah blah (loudly) and "don't you dare laugh at me, I can see your faces!!!" Manager - standing his ground while I secretly cheer him on says - I've been a pharmacist for over 20 years and "You don't have to be a whale to write Moby Dick"" Me - wondering to myself - "what the hell does that mean" as I walk out smiling. You see, I was once in a career as a customer service rep for a major home builder and have had to smile while secretly dreaming of punching Mr or Mrs "The Customer is Always Right" in the face and writing Helter Skelter on the wall with their blood. Ok that was pushing the limit. I don't really think dark horrible fantasies, for the record. I'm just sayin. read more

This Walgreens is TINY. I was surprised they were able to fit the store in this tiny space. Anyways, there is a drive through so that is convenient for picking up prescriptions, it sure beats standing in line. Everytime I've come in here the store has been very clean, organized and the staff is very friendly and nice. For having such a small store they have a really nice waiting area right next to the pharmacy complete with chairs you can sit in while you wait. The one bad thing about this Walgreens is the parking lot which is really a problem for that whole shopping area. It's a small parking lot and with the two drive thrus( one for bank of america and one for Walgreens) it's really kind of dangerous especially since a lot of people seem to be in a hurry and the drive thru's come out right next to where people are driving in and out of the parking lot so be careful... read more

I have really tried to have patience with this place as the location is super convenient for me. However the pharmacy is not to be trusted. I have caught mistakes they've made three times now. Whether it be in the dosage quantity for the length of the recommended treatment. They have on numerous occasions claimed they have no prescription for my daughter and her dr has to recall it in. Today after waiting on the drive through lane for the 3 rd time: for the same prescription, they informed me they don't have all the medications on hand and they could fill 5 pills worth. I said that wasn't enough to get her through to Monday and she looked surprised? She reread the prescription and said "oh I guess it's not" This was after I sat at the window waiting for someone to notice me for 10 minutes. Then she asks another employee who says they can fill the whole thing! She says just one moment. 5 mins later she comes back to window and asks me "how can I help you". Called pharmacy and my prescription was confirmed as ready. They told us to come down, we drove over there and got there at 12:40. The drive through sign said temporarily closed so we left and came back. When we got back an hour later the temporarily closed sign was still up blocking the drive through. We went inside and the clueless manager said they were taking a lunch! She was completely rude and not accommodating. Worst pharmacy ever- wait times always long and service always bad! I was searching on the web for a place to covert vhs to dvd and Walgreens popped up. I visited this particular Walgreens to ask about this service. They told me it was done by a 3rd party ( fair enough) and it would take 3 weeks but there would be no sound? I find this very strange that I would pay for a service that produces no sound? This pharmacy has reached a new low with a new pharmacist who doesn't know what he is doing. Walgreens Encinitas has been giving spotty service for years. Sometimes they lose prescriptions, sometimes they don't answer the phone, sometimes they renew prescriptions and charge for medicines I don't need. Recently I was on hold, two times a woman came on the line to ask that I remain on hold, and then after 25 minutes I was disconnected. I waited a week to get a prescription filled. When I called again, a pharmacy assistant said there were 65 prescriptions ahead of mine, I would have to wait another day. Then another day. They act as if the customer time has no value read more

Great covid vaccine experiences WITH APPOINTMENT! Had great younger pharmacist both times. That said Do NOT COME HERE FOR MEDICATION! The service is horrible! Went to pick up a refill that was already on the shelf and had to wait 15 minutes before anybody helped me. meanwhile, I could see that the technician was just moving bins around maybe removing prescriptions that had not been picked up. How about doing those tasks when there are no customers waiting? They also do not inform you if your prescription is not covered. They just charge you whatever the cost is and if you don't ask they don't tell you. When I did ask once why my medication wasn't covered, the technician told me it was because it was an over the counter medication and I'm a pharmacist and knew that wasn't true. So she was spouting off misinformation. Also, I tried using a GoodRx coupon there which clearly said Walgreens cost and I was told that that it had to be a certain manufacturer otherwise they would not honor the coupon. I'm going back to mail order. Way easier and no rude staff. read more

This pharmacy never fills a prescription in the 2 hours they tell you. Difficult to get a prescription filled the same day.

I have never walked out of the pharmacy with my prescription on the first try. They always have a problem and are extremely unwilling to fix it. It is not that hard to fulfill a prescription and I have never had a problem at CVS (which is where I will be going from now on). Do NOT get your child's antibiotic from this location. The pharmacist woman didn't catch the age and weight of my child, and she was given way too much antibiotic. Causing her to throw up and become worse with her illness. The pharmacy staff looks at you like you're stupid, and doesn't even try to help with any questions you have.
