I almost didn't come to this location because of the customer service reviews, but glad I did as I had a fantastic experience. I came in to look at a specific product that has been all over my Instagram feed that this location carries and the Del Mar highlands store doesn't. Their makeup artist Rhonda helped me find and try out the product, asked me about my goals and set me up with a different product that looked better on and cost less. She also showed me how to use each product and didn't push me to buy anything. Rhonda is great at what she does with makeup and is fun and low pressure to boot. I love the products they carry and they are usually fully stocked with my usual must haves but unfortunately I just don't like their customer service. They are dismissive and condescending. I asked for something similar to the face cream that they didn't have in stock, fully willing to try something new and then they showed me another product. After telling me about it for about 3 seconds, I asked if they had something less expensive (it was almost $100 over my normal products cost) and the lady rolled her eyes and suggested I look at Ulta. The last time I visited this store was in November 2021. When I arrived, the energy in the store was cold and the girls working didn't even bother to ask if I needed help as I walked in. They were all congregated by the register looking at their phones. As I walked through the store I was approached by an employee named Pamela. Wow!!! She was amazing and immediately turned my perception of the store around. She took her time explaining products and made recommendations about products that would be appropriate for my skin type. I spend a little over $800 that day thanks to her assistance. Today, I returned to the store hoping that Pamela would be there. I was hoping that I wouldn't be met by the same team I had previously experienced. To my complete surprise I was immediately welcomed by Kristen. If you have not experienced her energy yet, I would encourage you to visit her on your best or worst day. Without a doubt she will make your day better. You will walk out of this store with sore cheeks from smiling so much and you will make this one of your "go to"stores. Kristen is a gem!!! She has a beautiful, positive, and uplifting spirit. She is knowledgeable about products and totally thoughtful. She actually made me a chart of when to use what products!!! Who does that??? I wasn't the only one impressed by her character. Other women in the store were experiencing the same positive vibe that I was. I can't imagine anyone sharing space with her and not feeling like you've made a friend for life!!! This was my 1st facial at Blue Mercury Encinitas and I absolutely loved it!! I had Esthetician Camilla and it was remarkable how knowledgeable she was. We talked about facial treatment options and reviewed products in the store before my appointment I let her guide me and was truly pleased that she listened and chose applicable products. I enjoyed the process and once situated really relaxed. My skin tone is noticeable more even now and my skin feels refreshed and alive. I've been here on about 3-4 separate occasions. I do not live in the area but when I'm in San Diego, I try to stop by. The shop itself, has a great selection and I love almost all the products that they carry. The first couple times I've had great experiences. Until today, when I came in to purchase a lip liner. I noticed they had two of the same colors on display and not the one I was interested in. The gal helping me was able to find a couple of the ones I'm looking for but it was "for purchase only". She was quite eager to make the sale as she immediately left it on the counter for me to buy. However, there still wasn't one for me to see/try on. She asked the manager that was there if she can open one but the manager declined as it was "for purchase only". Such a same that they care more about that "sale" than customer service. Little did they know, I was going to buy it 97% sure among other products. But because of the situation, I put the other products back onto the shelf and walked out. As the only customer in the store, was never greeted, other than to be told to put my face mask over my nose while smelling the $65 candles to see which ones I wanted to purchase. Anastasia, the area manager, and all the staff there have been so very helpful in helping me find products for sensitive skin that turn back time. I was lost in department stores and Sephora, finding that most lines caused my skin to have an allergic reaction. At Blue Mercury, they listened to my story and gave me some new ideas & lots of sample until we found products that work for me. I have been going to this store for several years just for the convenience, however, they have the worst customer service I have ever experienced. Many of their employees have no clue what they are selling. It's obvious they are not taught about the products they sell. I came in to try the Juice Beauty line of products and I was invited in to try them all. Then I tried another product that was given rave reviews so I decided to buy them instead. The gals working there were super nice and helped me pick out products tailored to my needs: sun damage and aging skin. They even invited me back to get my make up done for free. I think the past bad reviews were given by people who are overly sensitive and read into words too much because I came in looking worked from the gym with no make up on and I wasn't treated cheaply at all.
