My sister and I were both serviced by Makayla for hair and makeup and she did an amazing job! We both got blowouts which turned out great! My formal makeup look was exactly what I was looking for and my sister's natural makeup look was stunning. We both felt very beautiful and were very satisfied with the results we received. This is for "The Salon" more than Ulta. Ive debated writing a review, because it doesn't change anything, but seriously the worst chop and I need to say something. I'm seriously so embarrassed of this haircut, I spend more time hiding it than I do trying to have it down, Everytime I see it I'm filled with regret and have to mourn the loss of my hair (I know dramatic but it feels that bad, I cut off probably 10-12 inches of hair.) It looks nothing like the photos I showed them. Nothing. I went back and they tried fixing it and somehow made it worse, I cried. I took a gamble, and I lost, and it was quickly the worst decision I've made in a long time. So if you're looking for a trim, they might be able to help, but don't go thinking you're going to get the haircut of your dreams here. read more

This Ulta location always seems to have everything I need in stock! Half the time I don't even bother with the location closer to me as I know this location will for sure have it in stock. Really easy to order ahead online and pick up like other locations. The staff is really nice and helpful too! So many staff members check on you and ask if you need help which makes it easier to find anything. The store is well organized and obviously well stocked. It's pretty easy to find most things as they are in specific sections. Also, the line usually goes fast here if shopping in store! read more

These two stars are for the experience and not for the staff who provided the services. I booked for makeup and blowout by calling this location and my apt was confirmed. Next day I was 7-8 mins late which I called and informed them, right after when I was entering the salon I was had voicemail that my hair stylist had called out and they moved you with somebody else. On reaching I was told the same thing and they had moved me to different stylist who was available later which wouldn't have worked out in my timeframe. Long story short I decided to proceed with blowout with Mikalya and not get makeup done. I already had mentioned my hair is pretty straight and long when I called to book apt. Unfortunately the blowout did not look even 10% like blowout and just looked like my hair dryer was done. I was so disappointed and expressed my disappointment and was then helped by Amber for curling my ends atleast. It was very stressful time spend in that chair, I mentioned it to someone who did not seem receptive of my feedback and just was trying to put it on me that I was late. Too bad I didn't have time to meet the store manager who was roaming there. Amber did good job with curling but I really wish it was a smooth experience. read more

I went to purchase a perfume at this store. The lady salesperson wouldnt help me although I made my selection and was ready to purchase. I drw her attention multiple times. Ulta Beauty in San Marcos on Las Posas Rd. Accessibility: there are two handicap parking spaces in front of the store two doors down from Ulta..other than that you might have to park a little farther out because the parking lot is always busy. The door entering the building is a pull door and it's all flat-ground. Experience: there are lots of employees in here ready to help. I was wondering around looking for something and 3 separate employees came up and asked if I needed help...that was really nice and helpful. My mother wanted to get something from Stella, but the girl with dark hair and a bun at Clinique was incredibly rude. She clearly didn't want to help and spoke to my mother in a totally inconsiderate way. Ulta really needs to get a grip on their customer service. It's unacceptable for employees to refuse to check for a product or ask a manager for assistance. Plus, the cashier couldn't care less about the whole situation. A million stars for Alina in the salon! She's the reason I drive out from out of state to get my hair done!! She's the best stylist I've had, especially for crazy colorful hair. We always switch it up and she never disappoints! BUT- minus stars because the security device alarms they use on their fragrances are going off beeping non-stop! It is not only crazy annoying, but gives me a headache when I should be in a relaxed mood while sitting in the salon chair for hours. I had the absolute worst experience three years ago here before my wedding. I hadn't dyed my hair in two years and had grown it out; it was gorgeous. I rarely ever used heat tools and was careful never to break the strands -- every bride's dream. I told the stylist I wanted very subtle highlights through the ends of my hair. That's it. I sat for 2 painful hours with this stylist who never once gave me any indication she didn't know what she was doing. What was before a beautiful rich golden brown, to my HORROR was platinum blonde. I don't even have pictures of it, it was that bad. My hair was RUINED. I cried for days. Ulta was able to fit me in with one of their head stylists for a free correction. After two painful hours, honestly it was still terrible, not "me" and not at all what I wanted for my wedding day. But my hair was so damaged at this point, I said it was fine and left. I would never recommend a friend go here for any color work. I appreciate them trying to fix their mistake, but to have a stylist employed that caused so much damage and anxiety was just appalling to me. I was crying during the initial blow dry and the stylist never once asked me if she had messed up. Still heartbroken over the way my wedding and honeymoon photos turned out, a day and a trip that I'll never get back. read more

For the holidays, I wanted to treat myself to a cut, color, and some highlights. I was booked with an elite stylist and spent over $300.00. In return, I received a horrible haircut. So much so, that when I went home to my family they exclaimed "What happened to your hair?" I received horrible choppy layers that I did not ask for. The back of my head had a line going across the middle and was not blended. My bangs were not blended with my length. The color turned brassy and faded quickly. Hey, another Ulta review! This is a semi newer location and I must admit this is a store that I do not mind seeing on every corner. You never know when you will want to drop in and grab some bling thing and you know you can. Plus, this Los Posas store is next to a favorite boutique. When Ulta first started opening stores I was not pleased with their selections. However, over the years they have made something lackluster look quite lovely! They added improved brands such as Kitsch, MAC and Dyson to name a several. This store has a wide selection of make-up, hair and body product and point of sale mini items for you to pick up if you are feeling impulsive. They all do! Lines get long on weekends and shorter in the evenings. The store offers services in addition to products. I have never used their services as I prefer a more intimate salon experience but others seem happy based on Yelp reviews and photos. The staff is friendly and helpful if and when needed also. I go to Ulta as they have some exclusives on my beloved brand... Pacifica! These are items one cannot get elsewhere. The brand yes, the products no. There is usually a promotion to buy one item, and get one item at 50% for the same brand. Pacifica deserves a review of its own. I needed makeup for work photos and had no idea where to start. You see, I rarely wear makeup. I'm more of a 'take care of your skin and let it glow' kind of person. So, I know moisturizers and sunscreen but not makeup. Waiting until the last minute and then obsessing about how I've waited so long is my style. I was procrastinating even more when I remembered Ulta was right down the strip mall from Petco. So, I decided to stop in. The store is brightly lit and not intimidating for people like me. Every company has it's own little area but all the employees work for Ulta. There is a salon in the back. I randomly found Alexa and told her what I was looking for. I needed a very natural, very finished look with subtle tones, no dramatic makeup, and I want to look like myself even when I'm wearing it. Oh, and then I dropped the "I hate how makeup feels on my skin so I can't feel it on". Alexa knew exactly what products would work. I spent about an hour in the chair as we went through products. Alexa was very patient with me! I ended up buying 5 products. I enjoyed my time here and the products still feel great on my skin. The only reason I gave them 4 stars is the checkout line. There were cashiers, two customers checking out, and a line of 5 people. After 5 minutes, an announcement was made for an associate to come to the front. Well, no one came...so we all waited. I made an appointment and took time off work to get my brows waxed at this location. I get there at my appointment time (which wasn't super early in the morning or anything) and am standing around looking for the benefit employee. I don't see anyone so I ask an ulta employee and they say they will check for me. A couple minutes later they came back and said "sorry, she was a no call/no show today..." I'm sorry-- but if you know your employee is a no call/no show you should call and cancel their appointments so we don't drive all the way over or get someone else to cover their shift. When I asked if there were other locations we could check and see if another benefit employee was working where I could reschedule they said they couldn't do that and I would have to call around. I tried calling the Oceanside store days before and when you try to talk to dial any extension to talk to an employee it disconnects. I tried again today, same thing. They said "sorry" but it was in a tone of like "sucks to be you". Didn't seem genuine and they didn't really offer to help at all. Very disappointed because I really used to love Ulta. read more

I am 80 years old with arthritis and an obvious limp. The saleswoman at Ulta on Las Posas Rd in San Marcos, CA was friendly and helped me with three products I needed. My leg was wearing out so I went to checkout. Luckily there was no one else in line. I handed the cashier my items and realized I had forgotten my pin number. I stepped to the side so she could help other customers and called my husband out in the car to come in with his card. I was obviously in pain and holding onto the counter. The cashier told me i had to get in the back of the line, which now had about 11 people waiting. There were other cashiers btw. My husband got in line and was treated rudely by the cashier. What in the world has happened to these young women that caused them to be so mean. I will never darken their door again. Ulta has lost a good customer. read more

Worst haircut of my life. I should have known when she turned my chair away from the mirror, first thing. I asked for a trim with a few layers but long to be able to pull my hair up. I have layers all over my head (some 2" long) that are shorter than the unwanted bangs she cut. She left the bottom length like a mullet cut! It could be over a year before these layers are even near being able to pull my hair back. read more

I went into the Ulta in San Marcos to shop for Chanel makeup. I had pre-shopped online at Chanel's website but wanted to see the colors in person. There were 6-8 associates around the front of the store. Felt very overstaffed for a hot Thursday afternoon. After a single "welcome" from the cashier I walked over to the Chanel section and right by the other 6 associates. Think there were maybe 4 other customers in the store that were not being assisted. I looked at Chanel makeup for over 20 minutes with absolutely no assistance from the team but listened to very loud gossiping and story telling by all of the associates. The Chanel makeup counter was disorganized and not very clean. I left, walking by 6 associates that were still rudely and loudly talking to each other. I just came home and ordered $450 online with Chanel directly. Side note that the service at Ulta in Carlsbad Forum is exceptional. read more

Honestly I don't like ulta because I never find anything good and it's so pricey for the products they have. The workers tend to be unhelpful or seem irritated. I just wanted a foundation that's on their website but they don't have in stores. It's really unfortunate to be writing this review but my last several visits to this location have been disappointing. I walked out each time and ordered my items online because they shelves were empty. Today's experience was similar. In addition to several different products I wanted to purchase being out of stock, I truly felt unwelcome from the time I entered the store to the time I left. It all had a "Pretty Woman" kind of feel to it. There was one cashier helping a customer with an online return while three other staff chatted, looked at me and then went walking about the store. It was not crowded. I was the only one in line. The cashier finished with the customer and then told me she would be right with me and then slowly began handling the return, repacking it with her back toward me. I set my several haircare items down and then left. I again, ordered my stuff online. Not sure I'll be back any time soon. Makes me sad..was one of my favorites. read more

I had an appointment at the Ulta Benefit Brow Bar. (San Marcos, CA) For the past 8 years I have been exclusively going to Ulta Benefit Brow Bar to get my eyebrows done. I have always been satisfied with the way my eyebrows turn out, which is to be expected since there is a standard. However, this last appointment with KIMBERLY did not go well, she left me with thin uneven eyebrows. At the beginning of the appointment I mention to her I like my eyebrows full and natural, that I wanted to keep the same shape. She was very friendly and kind until I mentioned I did not like my eyebrows. I told her they were too thin and they were very different then one another. She appeared to be confused and insisted they were done correctly. She tried to fix them by drawing uneven lines and tweezing more hair out. She began to her frustration. I asked to speak with a manager. Shay, the manager, was very apologetic and agreed the eyebrows were uneven and too thin. I mentioned I had no idea to fix them, since I rarely wear make up. Other employees came to help, Mariah was incredibly helpful, she offered to teach me how to fill in my eyebrows to make them appear more even and full. I was so thankful. My appointment was at 530, I didn't leave the store until almost 8. I have been trying to contact the store but ANNIE the store manager is not available. read more
