Let's face it, no woman wants to get her boobs squished, but it's necessary and we all have to go through it, so might as well go where they couldn't be nicer, helpful and professional. Receptionist was flat-out fabulous. Warm, friendly, made me feel personally welcome. Identified herself, and guided me through the necessary paperwork quickly and efficiently. Honestly I don't believe I've ever had such a warm receptionist at a medical office! Wait time to go on to the next step was mere minutes. Was shown to a dressing cubicle and given easy-to-follow instructions. Wait time for the actual mammogram was again very short. The procedure itself was the usual, turn this way, lift your arm this way, squish squish, hold your breath and repeat with a different angle. My Professional Gal was just that, guiding me through it as quickly and painlessly as possible. Within a week I had my results. Could not have had a better experience.

I expected a higher level of professionalism and patient care. Unfortunately, this experience left me with little confidence in the practice, and I chose to seek care elsewhere.

The office is very convenient in the UNC Rex Wakefield building on the first floor. As the campus is billed as a hospital, Wake Radiology adds on a hospital charge for insurance. The MRI machine is a mobile unit so you are taken outside to get to it but it is right outside the door. They have a room for you to change and a locker to store your things and provide you with a key. My CT scan did not require changing just verified that I didn't have metal on me. The machine was open and not closed and the procedure was quiet and very fast unlike my MRIs. Check in is always easy here. The technicians for all the procedures has been friendly. The radiologists are also very fast. My test was at 8am and my doctor called with the results at 10:45am. The official report was done at 9:08am.

The techs together were moving my injured body part around without ever asking me if it hurt, which it DID!! They both hurt me more than once and at the end of the MRI, one of the techs pulled my hair! I was injured three times by these complete idiot unprofessional and uncaring techs!!! WakeMed should be ashamed they have these kind of healthcare workers!!! I will NEVER go back there and DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS facility!! I have told my family and friends about this awful experience and none of them will be going there either. Shame on WakeMed Radiology!!!

After arriving I waited 30 minutes after my appointment time to be taken back. I was brought to a mobile unit outside of the building. The MRI that I was getting required contrast. I had an uneasy feeling from the start with the tech, Scott. He blew my vein in my left arm. He said I had a weak vein. I have never been told I had weak veins and have had blood drawn and donated blood many times. He then proceeded to put the IV in the right arm. He could not fit between the table and cabinet, so he was doing it from behind me. I start to feel intense pain and ask what he was doing, and he told me he blew the vein in the right arm as well. The lady who brought me back came into the room when she heard me. Scott had a look of "I really messed up" on his face. He didn't even tell me what was happening next. She took over and said I would have to get rescheduled and took me back into the building to change. I said how could he have blown veins in both arms, I just didn't get it. She said they have had this happen with him before. I asked why Scott gets to keep his job. She said they have asked themselves that same question. I could tell that came out before she could stop it. I was very frustrated and now in pain in my right arm, mainly. I have to wait at least another 3 weeks to get an appointment with them. I left and called my doctor to get scheduled with Wake Radiology instead.

I returned for a repeat/second-look ultrasound with Dr. Agarwal, with the understanding that the area would be reassessed and we would then discuss the findings and whether biopsy, aspiration, or monitoring was the appropriate next step. After the ultrasound, Dr. Agarwal entered the room and essentially announced that she was there to perform the biopsy. There was no initial discussion of what the new ultrasound showed, whether anything had changed, or what my options were. It wasn't until I stopped her and began asking questions that we actually had a discussion about the imaging and recommendation. My concern was the way the recommendation was presented and Dr. Agarwal's overall bedside manner, which I found quite curt and unsettling. I hope Wake Radiology takes this feedback constructively. A few minutes of compassionate communication and discussion can make an enormous difference in a patient's experience.
