Amazing cataract surgery outcome I'm very grateful for ths skiils and care I received at Blue Ridge Surgery Center. I'm truly impressed by the outcome. Dr. Gupta operated on my right eye cataract yesterday. Before surgery, my right eye had significant ghosting in my distance vision while driving, watching tv, and even walking. Objects and text appeared doubled or shadowed, though the image would become clearer if I tilted my head way back--probably caused by my old worn out lens distortion. As of this morning after surgery, the change is remarkable. Distance vision in my right eye is exceptionally clear, with no ghosting. Images and color are so much brighter, sharper, and tv skin tones are noticeably more defined. It is like taking off bown tint sunglasses. The improvement in in just one day is dramatic. Today I had my second surgery since July 2025. I simply cannot overstate how pleased I was with my visit today. Everyone from registration, the nurses and doctors were so friendly and supportive of me and my wife. They took exceptional care of me from start to finish and ensured my experience was over the top. I would have rated this center a 5 for the care but because someone in their billing department entered 3100 on my care credit card without the deferred interest code I am now out 524.41 in interest charges! I have called the care credit card company and the centers involved who admit they don't know how it happened but can't do anything about it now because it is paid! CC won't reimburse and both offices involved say they can't do anything to compensate. So, I will not be using this center again. Somehow I as the patient was supposed to realize that the code for deferred interest was not entered and now it's my responsibility to eat the loss. Wow! I just hope this isn't a frequent problem because 90% of patients trust the center to enter the right information. read more

Worst experience at a medical facility. Received multiple notifications, even received one for a different patient. Facility had me down for the wrong procedure. Nurse stabbed me so bad, blood down my are and bruise that will take weeks to recover. I'd never have any medical care performed at this facility...go elsewhere. read more

We've had three family outpatient surgeries here, all by the same dr, over a course of 15 years!, and this surgery center is fantastic. The staff is wonderful from the front door to when you are done. Everyone is friendly, patient and caring. It's a bit of a drive for us, about 40 minutes, but it's a great surgery center and we trust our dr so it's worth the drive. The facility is very clean, many Covid precautions are being taken and we felt very comfortable there, despite dealing with a pandemic. The rules have changed dramatically due to Covid but they are there to ensure safety and it was no problem at all to adhere. Highly recommend this center - very kind phone staff as well, frequent phone calls to remind you of deadlines and protocol and they handle insurance for you which is a big relief. read more

Updated Review: we had our services done mid July and only received the refund this week. That is 2 months of " loaning" the business over $500. This number would have been $1900 if we did not fight their ask to pay the completely fake " full fee" up front before they even ran any insurance details. See full review below for the complete nightmare of billing and how they get a multi month interest free loan out of people seeking medical services. Original Review: AMAZING STAFF! Terrible Billing practices. The short story: They were holding my small baby's surgery hostage behind an artificial paywall. " pay a huge and wildly incorrect fee up front or forego surgery for your small baby... your choice" isn't a direct quote but that is the choice they ask you to make at check in. The Long story: Truly professional and kind and capable people. Form the nurses, front desk, every single person from your first walk through the door until your last step out. The back end seems to run really smoothly with good systems too. The billing policy is out of control and feels borderline a scam. Maybe not illegal but truly UNETHICAL. Again, nothing to do with the lovely people working there. This seems like a company policy issue. They require full payment up front for the full cost, doesn't matter how much of your deductible you have paid. They are taking the full surgery cost under some bizarre assumption that they may not get their money or something. Not sure the reasoning because no one has ever done this in my 37 years on this earth and the 3 states I have lived in. I brought documentation from my insurance saying we were very close to hitting our deducible ( a few hundred dollars) so an up front cost of $2300 was bizarre and inappropriate since they haven't even reached out to my insurance yet to see how much of my deductible I have met. They said that's just how they do it and that i would get a refund for any difference. Guess what? They don't run the claim until " up to 90 days" after service and the refund would take another 45. So they are asking me to essentially loan them a few thousand dollars for 4.5 months without interest that I will then have to go and try to get back. That is a hard pass for me. No other doctor/hospital etc has ever done that in any state I lived in so this was a shocker. Pro tip- ask them what is the minimum you can pay that day and still get the procedure. I paid 35% of the bill which makes it less of a " loan" to Blueridge. What else was I supposed to do? read more

Medically, it was fine. Financially, I will never go back. They gave me a pre-surgery estimate, and then charged me almost twice that amount--without explanation, despite numerous calls. The service was good during my surgery, but their billing practices are very suspect, which taints everything. Firstly, those who are in-netword for BC/BS generally do not charge any up front amounts, whereas Blue Ridge does. The amount they collect is all presumptive that they will be the first to submit their claim, when, in fact, in my case they lagged behind 3 others related to the same surgery. Therefore, they collected the whole deductible, when I now owe that to the surgeon. Secondly, their estimate for the cost of services was way overinflated. Therefore, they owe me over $1800 and now tell me that it will take at least 45 days to process. Interestingly, the amount collected up front was within $10 of the actual amount that BC/BS paid. It is like they collected the entire cost of services up front from the patient and now are sitting on it, hoping I will just forget about it. To make all this that more frustrating, they don't return calls and don't return emails, though every indication is that they will respond within 24-48 hours to all voice mails and emails (I waited a week). When calling their phone, they don't answer for at least 30 minutes and I had waited up to an hour in the past and gave up. The whole thing is remarkable suspicious. If I were to make a bet, I would guess that they collect all funds, up front, and spend it while awaiting BC/BS to provide payment, then sit on a patient's money for at least another month or two beyond that to invest elsewhere. It seems particularly shady to me. The next time I have a surgery, I will certainly not use that surgery center facility. I would rather pay a couple hundred more after having been processed through BC/BS than to pay way too much up front only to not have access to my money. read more

Incredible customer/patient care. Everyone was kind, thorough and joyful. Dr. Anderson repaired my chronic knee pain by fixing my torn meniscus, such a blessing! Dr. Baker the anesthesiologist, and Sherry Baker, the Nurse anesthetist were super cheerful and eliminated all Pain. They started me off with warm blankets which set me at ease and provided comfort and relaxation. Honestly, I felt like I was at a spa! My nurses were all awesome, informative, cheerful. We had services done a couple months ago and they demanded full payment of what they "estimated" would be our cost with our insurance, prior to surgery. Their estimate was grossly inaccurate and it took several phone calls and emails to get them to agree to taking a smaller payment up front (which was still too much!). Once the claim was filed, it was clearly obvious how wrong they were with their estimate and now they owe me a refund of over $500. Of course I have yet to see that refund and every time I call I get a different excuse, i.e First it was,"it takes 30-45 days", then i was told they "just switched our payment system", and most recently they said "it looks like we mailed a check 2 weeks ago, let me try and see what happened". I work in healthcare and am familiar with medical billing and this is unacceptable. For the average person who may not be as familiar with medical billing and/or that just doesn't have the time to constantly follow up, they can easily get screwed by this company. I would NEVER recommend this place to anyone. Just avoid the inevitable billing headache! read more

I took my partner here for an arthroscopic knee surgery a few weeks ago, and this place was top notch. They provided her with great directions and support prior to the surgery, and they always answered her questions to the fullest. The registration process was super fast. The waiting room is quite large and has probably 50+ chairs with a few table/chair sets too. They have a couple TVs, a few soda/drink machines, and a snack machine too... plus free coffee and free wifi! From the time we walked in the door to the time we left, the nurses and staff were more than wonderful. Sarah was our pre-op nurse, and she took my partner back to meet the anesthesia team within 15 minutes. She came out in the waiting room often to update me, and they updated me mid-surgery too. Dr. Szura came out to deliver pictures and discuss results, and he was great. We stayed for another hour or so before she was wheeled out to the car to go home. Both the surgery center recovery team as well as Dr. Szura called to check on Sara the day after the surgery... that was a super nice touch. I'd definitely recommend this place! read more

They all made me feel super comfortable, everyone was super nice and helpful with any questions I had and made sure I knew exactly what was happening during the surgery. No one bothered to call me this morning to let me know that they canceled my daughter's surgery due to weather. We drove an hour to get to the surgery center with a tired and hungry child to arrive to find an office that was closed. They didn't have any warning on their website. I received no phone calls or voicemails or emails regarding the cancellation. The surgeons and nurses were all notified because no one was there but us. Imagine driving your sick child an hour to have surgery performed at a cost of $1300 out of pocket only to find out their office staff couldn't be bothered to pick up a phone. I'm going to go out of my way to avoid this place. I'm SO glad I didn't prepay their fees which they managed to call me about over and over again leading up to the surgery. This morning they had their phones turned OFF. No message about the weather on their website, no sign on the door....just an hour drive to find the lights turned off. Very unprofessional. read more

I had ankle reconstruction surgery here in September 2018. I was very pleased with the experience. A nurse assisted me from the car into the building using a wheelchair. Check in was painless; plenty of forms to sign etc. but no real problem. I was taken back on time, and all interactions with the nursing staff were good; I found everyone I came into contact with to be courteous and friendly. All spaces were clean and well kept. There are drinks and snacks available in the waiting room for whomever is with the patient. And of course, free Wi-Fi. read more

I was satisfied with the service but the billing was terrible. I was not given an itemized bill. I had to pay prior to surgery and was charged almost $400 more than my insurance copay. When I called the billing department I could not get a live person. I paid with a credit card but my quarterly statement came more than 60 days after I paid so I couldn't question the charge. I was there in March of 2018 for surgery and my wife in November. We were both extremely impressed with the initial planning and consultations, as well as all aspects of the pre-op and post-op procedures on-site. The entire staff was friendly and professional in every way. The facilities and services were very good. I noticed a different reviewer complained about the billing office. We did not experience any problems both before and after both our surgeries. What ever issues they may have had in the past, they appear to have fully corrected. Great job and thank you all. I totally agree with what Brie B. said. The Nurses stood outside my curtain & talked horribly about another patient & how they didn't make enough for this & blah blah blah. I never saw the man do or say anything but he was rather unkept but geez he was close to 90 years old, or appeared to be, so have some compassion. Also, the moment I woke up they stuck me in a chair & wheeled me out with orders not to throw up which of course I did within 5 mins. I had sinus surgery so it was like a blow torch up my nose. Long and short, the only reason BRSC gets two stars from me is because of the nursing staff and surgeon. They did a great job for my daughter. However, we had to pay over $3500 before they would take her into surgery. I had to put that on a credit card because my kid needed surgery right away. Later, we found out from my insurance that only $650 dollars was owed. It took over 8 MONTHS to get a refund from those people. All the while interest (that can't be refunded) was building. We arrived at the center at 6:00 am and registered . told cataract surgery would be within the hour. /Due to someone not reading our chart another patient with the same name as ours was called before us that had a later surgery time than my husband did. He wasn't seen until almost 8:00 am. Spoke with a nurse and she confirmed the foul up and later called to have the manager notified of this. We postponed a second surgery for the left eye ( cataract surgery) until January and had cancelled their December apt. yet we still received calls. Again, another mix up was their excuse. My 3 year old had his tonsils and adenoids out and everything was great! Waiting time wasn't terrible - normal for a surgery center. Procedure was super quick. PreOp and PACU nurses were great and so were all the anesthetists!! My dear husband even had a little episode of passing out and the PACU nurses were amazing - jumped right to helping him without even blinking an eye as my hands were full with my toddler. Anyone need a ENT doc - Dr. Stan Wilkins with Capitol ENT is THE BEST! Love them!! Nurses @ Blue Ridge give yourself a big pat on the back - y'all role-modeled nursing standards to a T!! Don't lose those attitudes and management make sure you do everything to keep this wonderful team that was on the floor 11/1/16!!! read more

I had my surgery here. I got my tonsils removed! There was inclement weather , however they remained open. Due to the weather they kept calling and changing my arrival time, which I understood. I really didn't appreciate feeling rushed to get there only to wait 3 hours for someone to go before me. (Why call me and ask me to come asap). Also the staff should stop gossiping. I don't care who had an affair. These curtains are thin. Your room isn't soundproof. Just an FYI! read more

I took my mother here for a surgical procedure, and I was impressed with the care. They were very good at answering questions ahead of time, and the follow-up calls were very helpful after I got her home. The staff was very thorough and careful in the pre-op procedures. The waiting area was very comfortable and even had work areas for laptops. read more

Just had surgery there today and I was very impressed with the nursing staff and physicians. I wasn't all that impressed with the reception and check-in people, but that really doesn't matter. One important note though is that my surgeon was from another local orthopedic clinic who uses this surgery center in lieu of a hospital, so I don't know if the surgery center has their own "staff" surgeons or what. I mention this because if you don't know your surgeon's skills or reputation ahead of time your experience could be totally different. In my case, I had a great surgeon (again, someone I saw elsewhere who performs his surgeries at the center), but the surgery center's nursing staff, operating room staff, and anesthesiologist was top notch. All were very friendly, professional, and treated me with great care and concern. read more

The surgery I had performed turned out to be unnecessary. My doctor thought I had adhesions, but once they cut me open they realized everything was normal. Not only was this frustrating, but the billing department has also​ been a nightmare. It is difficult to get a hold of a person and you have to wait in a phone queue for extended periods of time. Once you do get ahold of someone they are unhelpful and provide very little information. We had to pay the entirety of the estimated bill upfront​ with no options for payment plans, and after it was billed through my insurance it was discovered I was overcharged by a significant amount. They have been dragging their feet and have yet to give me the amount owed to me even though it has been 3 months since my surgery. Irecommend​d getting surgery elsewhere.​ read more

First, I want to thank the staff at this surgery center for the care they provided my three year old granddaughter, who had a tonsillectomy in May. My husband and I decided she was the "princess of the morning". She was very inquisitive about her new surroundings and the staff was never too busy to stop and answer her questions. They knew how to put her at ease. When the time came to see "where her doctor works", (Dr. Wilkins,Garner Ear Nose and Throat), she jumped in the doctor's arms wrapped her legs around him and neither of them looked back. Her mom assisted in her recovery efforts and she was well pleased also. Another thank you for the great care given me today. Because I had other medical issues in the past and presently, therefore no stone was left unturned. When my doctor suggested Blue Ridge Surgery Center, I was elated, because I remembered the treatment my granddaughter had received. I can't say enough good things about this surgery center. The staff were great for my surgery this last Tuesday and very attentive to questions I had. My vision is absolutely terrible and during surgery three other places I've been required to leave behind my glasses which is incredibly nerve wracking when you're in a new place surrounded by people and can't see a thing (I'm around -9.0 in each eye....I see blobs only without my glasses). The anesthesiologist and nurse anesthetist were both extremely reassuring and listened when I said I was scared to leave my glasses behind (which is their policy for all valuables). They let me keep them on right up until they placed the mask to put me to sleep and I'm not sure who, but someone put them back on my face before I woke up. This little thing made the entire surgery process so much better and less nerve wracking. Especially being able to see right when I woke up. The whole process was fairly quick. I was scheduled to show up at 11:30am and we were out of there 2:30. Of course with this being a surgery center, you should always triple check your insurance before scheduling, but mine was straight straightforward and they're willing to work with you for the most part. I do not typically write reviews, but I would like to save others the stress I've had from having my surgery here. If I could choose a 0 star, I would. Their billing center is completely incompetent. I was NOT notified the amount I needed to pay up front until less than 24 hours before my surgery. They claim to have called on the previous Saturday (as if less than one week notice was acceptable for a $2,000+ bill) but did not leave any type of message. The amount I was given was WRONG (too low by $1,000) and though I've been calling the billing center for 2 weeks to clarify amounts (please note that I am leaving messages, unlike they could do for me) so I can adjust my monthly payment and no one has called me back. Also, they use so many vendors that they are not all in network, so if you do decide to go here make sure you clarify EVERYTHING they will be using to ensure it is in network because now I'm getting stuck with out of network bills on top of already maxing out my out of pocket deductible. In addition, they are NOT flexible on setting up payment plans. No matter what your bill amount, they expect full payment within 90 days. I had a similar surgery several years ago with the same surgeon, but we did it at Wake Med instead of the Surgery Center because the Surgery Center did not have availability. GO TO WAKE MED. It will save you thousands. I wish I had gone to Wake Med this time as well. I did not have any issues with the center itself, I'm sure it was fine in comparison to other centers and the care they provided was on par with Wake Med, but I'll NEVER go here again unless they change billing providers. read more

I have never had any medical treatment with this place and never will based on an experience I just had last week, nor would I recommend them to others. I am not from Raleigh but was in the area to see a friend. I pulled off the 440 belt line to grab a sandwich and parked in their parking lot for about 10 minutes. When I returned to my car there was a boot strapped to my front tire with a tow truck sitting in the corner of the parking lot. The tow truck driver informed me I had to pay $125 to remove the boot or the car would be impounded. I asked where the "no parking sign" was and he pointed to a small sign under a tree at the entrance way. Of course I had to pay and I do resent the way I was treated and the absolutely absurd amount of the fine. The folks that run this place should show a little more compassion or at best mark their precious parking lot a little better. read more
