Full disclosure, I am not Dr. Desai's patient, my husband is. I accompany him to all his appointments so I consider myself qualified to give a true review. The front desk is great. Helpful, knowledgable, funny & friendly. Absolutely no complaints there. Dr. Pratik Desai is just great! I love his sensible approach to caring for my husband and feel completely confident in all his assessments & recommendations. Recently my husband needed major heart surgery and when I asked Dr. Desai why he recommended the surgeon he did, his reply was just right. "Because he's the best! Why else would I send B. to him?" As an extra added bonus, Dr. Desai also has a great sense of the absurd. I love that, it really speaks to what kind of man he is-confident enough in his abilities that he can allow his inner happiness to show through. As you can see, I'm a fan. The only reason I'm not handing out five stars is because of the layout of the office. We go from room to room to room. Not a big deal really but it would be nice to be able to just sit in one place for the entire examination.

The nurses had to irrigate my bladder for several hours to remove blood clots. There were two nurses that refused to give up. They finally were successful and got all of them out. I have never had a good experience at this hospital. I was admitted from the ER after coming in…read morewith internal bleeding and an intestinal infection. They fixed the infection but then sent me home with the internal bleeding without finding the cause despite my complaints of pain. I ended up at Duke where I was immediately put on steroids to bring down the inflammation and then given an iron infusion because I had lost so much blood (and 30lbs in 3 weeks) Duke then did a full endoscopy to find the cause of the bleeding, something they said Wake Med should have done. I ended up being diagnosed with an autoimmune disorder and put on medication immediately. I also have had a minor surgery at wake med where I waited in a room full of patients who were not screened for covid. The staff was extremely rude and condescending and I found out after the surgery that the surgeon didn't even know my medical history or the medications I was taking. I will never have any services done at wake med again and I will make sure none of my friends or family members go there.
