Overall this is a good place to get a decent breakfast and the staff works hard the issue i have is with check out and how they charge for using a credit/debit card. There's no sign post stating if you use your card and extra fee is charged. I'm not naive to the fact that credit card companies charge for servicing restaurants however I am use to being informed before I pay that a percentage of the meal will be added to the bill if a card is used. Also, if I do use a credit or debit card it would be nice to get an itemized receipt to know what I was charged per item ordered. Came home for a weekend and ended up picking up breakfast one morning and dining in with my cousins and a couple friends. Our favorites are the: Hamburger Plate: they know how to grill 'em Well and the burger is dressed with fresh lettuce, tomato, onion, and pickles. We get the French fries, which are normally hot and fresh and lightly salted. Waffle w/2 Eggs and Bacon: they know how to cook eggs Well and the waffle is always big and the strawberry topping (think pie filling) without the whipped cream is just right. Bacon is normally pretty lean and cooked to just-crispy. While the food is still constantly good, staff seemed disorganized last time we were in. It's "seat yourself," but no one takes the initiative to tell the obviously first-timers they can take a seat, thereby freeing up the door for the next customer coming in or trying to leave. Our waitress, Nicole, was wonderful to talk to and a wonderful server. If you want a family feel of being over a friend's house to have dinner this is the place. If I could give them ZERO STARS I would. Rude beyond measure!! Walked in and was seated for several minutes without a menu to even look over. Flagged a waitress down to only ask for a menu, she yells loudly "I'm coming, gosh!" Meanwhile a gentleman walked in and the same waitress we flagged down to ask for a menu gave the gentleman a menu straight away. While visiting my son that is stationed at Fort Polk Louisiana while serving in the US Army, we looked for a place to eat breakfast. After searching I found Waffle Shoppe in nearby Deridder, La. The menu has a large selection of southern country breakfast cooking. I sampled a little bit of everything and even shared a short stack of pancakes with my wife. The taste is very good and the staff is very kind and friendly. I enjoyed everything I ordered and so did my family. The coffee tasted burnt, but the mushroom swiss burgers were tasty. The hashbrowns were oddly dry and burnt tasting, but ok if you salted them. The main reason for the low stars was the service. The waitress was rude and literally sighed and rolled her eyes several times when we were giving her our order or asking her questions about the menu. If she doesn't want our business we are more than happy to go somewhere else. The food wasn't all that, definitely not good enough to make up for the antagonistic chaotic atmosphere and less than clean dining area. There are better places. read more

I visit DeRidder a few times a year, as I have family that live here. We were looking for somewhere to get a quick breakfast bite to eat, and my mom suggested here. She grew up in DeRidder, but has not lived here for over 30 years.. my grandmother could not remember if she had eaten here or not. We ate breakfast on Fat Tuesday, so school was out, it was pretty crowded for a Tuesday morning. The inside could definitely use some updating, but for the location and town, it really didn't phase me. They serve their whole menu all day. I was so tempted to order a patty melt, as it looked delicious, but we were trying to keep it light. I ordered the grits, and a biscuit with cream gravy...mmm! Home cooking at its finest. It was delicious, the grits did need butter, lots more than the 1 packet they brought, and salt, but that could be personal preference. My husband had the egg sandwhich, and he said he reminded him of sandwhiches his dad would make him growing up. He was pleasantly surprised and very happy. My mom had the ham steak - WOW! Definitely order it, it was delicious. Our food came out quickly, and the wait staff were friendly. Great home cooking and hot coffee. Very quaint atmosphere, cute posters, very quiet and pleasant. Everything is simple, heavy American food with simple flavors. There is something here for everyone. My boyfriend and I love to come here to sit and talk every now and then. It's very calm and inviting. Some of the wait staff give me odd looks when I go in with my boyfriend, but other than that they seem fairly nice. That would really be my only complaint. All the items on the menu are very affordable, and you can mix and match menu items to make a meal. My son got sick after eating here but I'm not going to blame the establishment since none of the rest of us did... My major criticism: I ordered a shrimp omelet.. and the waitress had no opinion when i asked for a opinion... We stopped by here on a recent Road-Trip, spanning east Texas to SW Louisiana. What a nice family place to eat. It was a Saturday and there were lots of whole families eating breakfast so it was crowded. That said, we were seated quickly and had a fine old fashioned breakfast with bacon, sausage, eggs and grits.
