Fun, eclectic eatery located in the heart of downtown Rome…read more The space is wide open and has a small, hometown feel to it with fun art and memorabilia hanging from the ceiling and walls. The menu is full of classic, comfort style dishes that will make you feel at home. Or server was a true southern belle with all the charm and kindness you would expect. I had a burger and it was delicious. This thing was MASSIVE and cooked to a perfect medium well as I had requested. The fries were also pretty good. They could have used a bit more seasoning but there was salt on the table!

Down in Rome this past weekend and decided to get into the Harvest Moon, as I had never been…read more Asking my girlfriend how it was, she just answered "okay". I now agree with her. This is a Southern Restaurant in a southern town. So I opted for a Shepherd's Pie from the St Paddy's Day menu. Yeah, go figure. It was rather bland. When I make this dish, I use ample cream in the potatoes (Irish style) and make a thicker, more moist pie, with a good deal of tomato in it. This was a bland substitute. Far better the next day when I added in enough butter to make the potatoes shine. I will give props for using lamb on this. She had the salmon patties. Fairly simple, also rather bland. Mashed potatoes as well. Breading on the okra was fine. Staff? Very friendly waiter. Answered all the questions and even described the drinks. As this has a good craft beer selection, I opted for one I had not had before and she got a smokey old fashioned. The old fasthioned did not have the cherries or orange peel you would normally see, but was rather strong and did use a rye whiskey. I would not go there for the drink, but reasonably priced. The ambiance is great. Typical of Rome, GA establishments, you can feel the history. They also have a rooftop bar and a separate bar area, for those seeking out a drink or two. Summary: The experience was good, but the food was bland. If you like to heavily salt your food, this might not be as big of a deal. On the whole, 3 stars, for average. Compared to other places in Rome, some of which are really bad, you would prefer this to many places. Nothing really bad to say, but nothing really good. Just average.

The new restaurant recently opened on Broad St. We have dined there three times over the past two…read moremonths and it had been a memorable meal each time. On the first visit, I had the red snapper and my wife had the shrimp and we both had the house salad. Everything was excellent. The fish was grilled to perfection and the shrimp wasn't the slightest bit greasy. If you are not starving I would recommend that you only get the half salad option since it is more than enough. I can't imagine how much the full salad would be. The champagne dressing was very tasty. On our second visit I started the evening with a Mel's Martini and it was the perfect kickoff to another great meal. Our most recent experience was this past week at what will be their monthly wine dinners. The theme for this dinner was Italian. There were six courses in total with a corresponding wine served with each course. Everything was delicious and was way more food than I could finish. This is a small restaurant and is just starting up so the menu is a bit limited but there should be something everyone could enjoy from the southern fried Cornish hen, steak, seafood, and pork chop. On our first visit we did notice a few couples take their seats, look at the menu and decide to leave. I really can't understand why that happened. Their menu is available online so it is pretty clear what they have to offer as well as their prices. The prices are reasonable and inline with what you would expect. The 98% of us that remained all received excellent service and meal experiences. They suffer the same problems with staffing as everyone else seems to be going through in recovering from the pandemic, but the staff is very attentive and we never experienced any delays in service. The wine dinner really put the staff to the test since almost every chair in the place was occupied. They did an excellent job in both serving and clearing the tables so everyone seemed to enjoy a perfect dining experience. If you are looking for a special evening out or just want to enjoy a great dining experience, make sure to give Melinda's a try.
