The interior was dark and it has a divey vibe. Service was good and my drink was kept refilled. They have Coke products, but only Coke Zero, not Diet Coke. If you're looking for a true small-town, southern spot, Jim's Family Restaurant in Somerville is…read morejust that. Nothing fancy, nothing over the top--just good food and friendly folks. We stopped in on a Sunday right around the church crowd rush, and the place was packed. Lots of people were lined up for the buffet, but even with a party of seven, we were seated fairly quickly. Our server was the sweetest southern lady, complete with a warm smile and southern drawl. She made sure everyone in our group was taken care of and couldn't have been kinder. I had breakfast, and while it was definitely a little more "southern-style" than what I'm used to, it was good and filling. Prices were very reasonable, which made the whole experience even better. A couple of notes: they only accept cash (no cards), and the parking lot is on the smaller side. Inside, it's simple--tables, chairs, a working kitchen, and the kind of atmosphere where you're bound to run into someone you know. Overall, it's exactly what you'd expect from a small-town family restaurant--local food, local people, and a welcoming southern vibe.

I had a burger & fries and my wife had breakfast (sausage, eggs, pancakes). My wife really enjoyed her breakfast meal and I thought my burger and fries met my expectations from a small town diner. (i.e. I wasn't expecting some unique beef blend with a nice sear and fresh cut fries.) I'd definitely recommend this place if you're passing through like we were. It's not going to blow your tastebuds away but you'll leave full and be greeted with authentic southern hospitality from the employees.
