Good place to stop on your way to Chattanooga! Friendly and fast service once you seat yourself anywhere you'd like. They have weekly meat and veggie specials you can mix and match to try a little bit of everything if you're hungry enough. Ordered the half chicken plate with baked sweet potato and collard greens. It also came with a side of cornbread. The second dish was barbecue pulled pork with sides of squash casserole and collard greens .... wasn't really a fan of this particular barbecue sauce because it was more vinegar base but still had good flavor. Classic southern restaurant, always worth a stop, with great short order menu and meat and three plates. Daily specials too. Depending on day's veggie choices, I often go for the 4 veggie plate. Especially love the greens and squash casserole. Cornbread is excellent. Expect a busy place; you seat yourself. But the wait staff is prompt and efficient. Fair prices! Can't for the life of me understand how this place has the rating it has. If you have never had southern food, please don't judge us based on this. The Mac and cheese was mushy. The mashed potatoes were lukewarm, chunky and without an ounce of flavor. The sad excuse for cubed steak that was coated in the god awful powdered brown gravy as if it were a chicken wing. The fried pork chops that didn't taste like fresh meat and the only seasoning was a very fake garlic or onion powder aftertaste. We left the squash casserole, Mac and cheese, and corn casserole almost untouched. We were so incredibly disappointed. I would not recommend to anyone. read more

The food is very good and would get them a five-star, but them slamming my check with a 10% inflation fee gets a star knocked off. The only place a notice about this fee is posted is at the register, which is a bit too late. The notification about the fee needs to be at the point of entry, at the table, or on the menu. I have not been here in 16 years. I found myself in Dalton and remembered how good the food was, but came for the sweet potato pancakes that were advertised online that no longer exist. I really hate when businesses do not update their menus online. The food was absolutely fabulous. Definitely no disappointment there. However as I remember service is always terrible. The food runner literally sat my food on the table and walked off. Not enjoy. Not a thank you. Not a word. My waitress was not awful, but not great either. If you are 70 years old or older than this place is for you. Everything is soft and easy to chew...(even if that dish normally isn't) The service is good and the ambience is small town charming. Again, set up for the elder population, so the food is sans spice or much seasoning. It is an institution in the town, so don't expect it to change. It's good for what it is, just not my favorite. read more

So I'm giving this place a 4 star on effort.. I do feel I might have made some poor selections myself that even though the meal was good it didn't equal the expectations. I got the pork tenderloin now it was smoked perfectly the portion was very small and had a unique flavor maybe a honey mustard bbq marinade not sure. Can't say I'd eat this again with the sauce on it. Much rather taste the natural smoke flavor The sides were good this is how I'd rank them greens and black eyes were the best, the mashed potatoes, slaw were good.. the corn soufflé and Mac n cheese I was not a fan. Downtown Dalton on the corner of a quiet street lies a breakfast/ lunch oasis. It's about six minutes from Interstate 75 Exit 333 and we'll worth the drive, we could have stopped at Cracker Barrel, pancake houses or numerous other breakfast destinations, closer to the interstate which would have been our loss. I was curious about their sweet potato pancakes that are only offered on Saturdays. I ordered them and added blueberries and pecans. You can order one or two. I went with two. They were delicious! Slightly sweet and loaded with a lot of blueberries but not so much when it came to the pecans. I would order these every single time I came here. I also ordered a side of hashbrowns with cheese and jalapenos, extra crispy. These were tasty but REALLY greasy. The coffee needs major work. It was watered down and scalded, which is a rare combination. I dont know of it was a bad batch or not but I didnt like it at all. Overall , i would come back. At this point I have been here multiple times. Every single time the food is unseasoned. Certain items, not exclusively fried items, require seasoning when they are hot, otherwise the seasoning does not adhere. The cooks here should read that and begin using that technique. I suppose they all took off from school on seasoning day. I give this place 2 stars, not 1 because of their service. The people that work the tables have all been great and accommodating. The place is pretty clean. Sometimes you can get held up waiting for the register, but not always. They could use a seating update, but I guess that is a moot point during the COVID-19 pandemic. Second time at this local meat and 3 restaurant downtown Dalton Georgia. First time had a decent enough sandwich with a friend, this time was quite different. Took my wife this past Saturday at just after 11 AM hoping to have a late morning breakfast. The waitress was rather curt in saying they no longer served breakfast. She asked immediately if we knew what we wanted and when we asked for a few minutes she was visibly upset. We ordered a chicken salad for my wife and I had a French Dip. The best part of the meal was the 3 pickles on each plate and my wife's sweet tea. The chicken salad tasted like cardboard and the French Dip was barely palatable. The French fries tasted like a cheap store brand. While the pricing is very reasonable, we were totally disappointed.
