    Terrible!

I ordered a "country ham biscuit", which is what I got. But this was by far the worst biscuit I've ever had. The biscuit was very thin and dry and the ONLY other thing on it was a thin slice of ham. This was the first and last time I've ever eaten at Bojangles. If this is what they've built their business on since 1977, there must be a lot of people out there with very low expectations, or they just don't know better. Or both.

Casual, colorful, the kind of spot where you expect someone to walk in wearing flip flops and carrying a fishing pole. Comfortable vibe. Easy place to settle in and see what the fryer can do. First up were the fried green tomatoes. They came out looking like they'd just won a beauty pageant. Crispy outside, tender inside, cooked exactly right. Texture nailed. But flavor-wise they felt like they forgot their gym bag at home. Needed salt. Needed a little personality. A rare moment where the fryer did its job but the seasoning clocked out early. Then the headliner arrived. The fried chicken at Champy's Famous Fried Chicken has a reputation to protect, and thankfully it shows up ready to work. Crisp, flavorful crust. Juicy inside. The kind of chicken that crunches just enough to make everyone at the table look over and get jealous. "If the deep fryer had a Hall of Fame, Champy's chicken is getting a first-ballot vote." And then came the move that sealed the deal. A dip into Champy sauce. Suddenly the flavor level jumped another notch. Salty, tangy, just enough punch to make the crust shine even more. The sleeper hit though? The cole slaw. Creamy, balanced, and actually refreshing next to all the fried goodness. It's the quiet kid in class who ends up acing the exam. Easy to overlook, but absolutely worth ordering. Now for the tiny curveball. I happened to land there on karaoke night. And let's just say... the speakers believed they were performing at an arena concert. Loud enough that conversation required leaning halfway across the table and reading lips. On the flip side, the crowd was clearly having a blast. A few genuinely good singers, a few that were more... enthusiastic than talented, and plenty of people cheering them on. Honestly, respect to anyone with the courage to grab a microphone in a room full of strangers. So no star deductions for that. The people who showed up to sing were having the time of their lives. Bottom line, Champy's Famous Fried Chicken is a fun place with seriously good fried chicken. Order the bird, grab the slaw, lean into the fried side of the menu, and enjoy the show if karaoke happens to be on the schedule. Just maybe bring your singing voice... or your earplugs.

We got to choose our table and had friendly service the whole time. Note that although the service is pretty good, the food coming out was a little slow. We got the 3 chicken tender basket, catfish basket, the smoked buffalo wings, and banana pudding. The buffalo wings were the highlight. Great smokiness coming through the wings. Just a little bit of heat from the buffalo sauce. Highly recommend. Everything else was pretty good. The chicken was tender, and good crisp to the outside, and good seasoning. The catfish was pretty good too although they were pretty thin so didn't get quite as much of the crunch to tenderness contrast that I like in a catfish. Also, their tartar sauce is too sweet. I prefer more tang on the sauce. I think the sauces run sweet as I thought the champy sauce was a little too sweet over mustard-y. Good fries with great texture and seasoning. I also got the green bean sides which were a little soft but great, depth of flavor as it was clearly cooked with pork. The potato salad was good if not memorable. The kids loved the banana pudding. A little too much of the cream and not enough pudding but otherwise worth getting. All in all a strong chicken spot to visit while in Chattanooga.

You walk in and you choose your table and a nice waitress will bring your menus. We like the chicken strip basket which comes with two sides. The chicken strips are very crispy, the meat is just a little dry but the flavor is great with even the mild level heat having nice heat. We were told to seat ourselves and our menus would be brought to us. After a short wait, the bartender/server came to take our drink order and food order. We both ordered the mild heat chicken tender special (3 tenders and fries for $7). We also added a veggie plate so we could try the Mac and cheese and greens. Our food arrived after a few minutes. The tenders were cooked fresh and were piping hot when they arrived. The chicken was dusted with mild heat seasoning. Outside of that seasoning, they weren't seasoned with anything else. We both remarked that we've had better Nashville hot tenders and better tenders in general. The Mac and cheese was just okay but the greens were the star of the meal. They were flavorful, meaty and had just enough kick to keep things interesting. Good meal overall. I recommend that you try them out. We will return to try other menu items.

Parking is pretty decent for the area, with at least one handicapped space right in front of the entrance door. Walking in was surprisingly cozy, with wood on the walls and muted colors for the seating. We were greeted on entry and seated quickly. Seating is a mix of tables and booths. Our waitress left menus and took our drink order as we sat down. The menu is rather extensive. The primary cuisine is Mexican, but they also offer traditional recipe pizzas as well as chicken wings. Many dishes are cooked in a wood fired oven. Our drinks came quickly, and we still needed time to make our selections. After a few more minutes, our waitress returned and we placed our orders. We did not receive any salsa and chips for the table, which was a bit surprising for a Mexican restaurant. We decided to order their homemade guacamole to start. The appetizer came out in maybe five minutes. The portion was much smaller than expected, and the guacamole was bland. It needed a good addition of both salt and garlic to improve the flavor. In addition, the chips were straight from the bag, without even being warmed. The food took about ten minutes or so to be brought to the table. The Pollo a la lena is two wood fired pieces of chicken, along with salad, refried beans, and rice. It also comes with your choice of wheat or corn tortillas. The chicken was tender and juicy, very well spiced with additional flavor from the wood oven. The refried beans are not the typical gray mush but actually have noticeable black beans. The rice was typical, but included corn, peas, and carrot pieces for additional flavor. The salad included crisp lettuce and diced tomatoes, onions, and jalapenos. The corn tortillas are made in house and compared well to the other components of the dish. I would absolutely order this outstanding dish again. The pollo loco was another good dish. The ratio of chicken to rice was good, and the amount of cheese was less than typical, which allowed more of the other flavors to come through. The asada torta was also good. The ingredients were plentiful compared to the bread, and everything seemed fresh and very flavorful. Even the french fries were well made. The chimichanga was the least liked dish, but still tasted good. It was prepared well and had a nice cheese topping. On it's own it would be a good choice, only suffering in comparison to the other outstanding dishes. One word of caution: the salsa accompanying the pollo a la lena and the torta is surprisingly spicy. The heat is deceptive, coming on slowly and lingering awhile. Although I was surprised at first taste, I included it in every bite of chicken, so it is addictive. Based on this visit, I definitely want to try more options from the menu, especially the pizzas.
