    two plates of breakfast food

The Pumpkin Spice waffles were to die for. When we arrived, it was packed. Every single seat and booth taken, but we had already committed so we decided to wait it out. Every member of the staff was busy, but we were still acknowledged and they let us know to just hold on and we'd be seated ASAP. I won't lie, it took a while. It's not very big on the inside, so there's not a ton of space to wait but they do have some chairs available along the sides to sit. (All occupied when we got there) When we were finally seated, our waitress was the sweetest lady in the world. Our food didn't take very long to come out at all, and everything across the table was delicious. When my pumpkin spice waffles came out, I was a bit underwhelmed by the appearance. They had asked if I wanted whipped cream, and I said yes, but it was forgotten. Not a big deal to me. With my first bite I discovered it wasn't needed at all, and looks can be deceiving because they were AMAZING. I also got over easy eggs, bacon, hashbrowns, and toast. It was all cooked perfectly. We always joke about how you kind of "end up" at a Waffle House, never really choose to go there. This visit will definitely make me choose to come back in the future.

So, this is two days in a row that there was a waffle house across the street from the hotel I was staying at on a side street. Honestly, this is not a good location from a business standpoint. It is off the main road and you will never notice that it's here, that is, unless you were looking for it. I was fortunate enough that my hotel along with another hotel were both literally right next to it. So, with the reality of covid and the distinct possibility that hotels will never offer breakfast again, Waffle House it was again. This really is not a big issue. I truly like their hash browns and you cannot go wrong with one of their egg orders. The staff was friendly and the food was pretty good. It is just off of the highway, but again, it is hard to find if you are looking for a quick meal option off of the highway. If you are speaking yet, it is behind the Starbucks and Citgo on that little side street.

So I came here after leaving dissatisfied from the Waffle House in the University area but still wanting breakfast. I ordered the "2 eggs breakfast" with grilled chicken on the side. Although I ordered this dish for pickup- it wasn't ready when I got there. However, one of the things that I could appreciate is that one of the cook/servers came up to me and told me he misplaced the ticket and that someone was making my dish right away. Also upon walking in, I was immediately greeted by 2 employees whom were very polite and said good morning. This establishment was very clean, everyone had great energy and it didn't take long for my food to be cooked. Once I got my food and got to the car, the original server came to the car (in the rain) and let me know I forgot my drink. Overall, service from the time I first walked through the door to getting to the car and having my drink being delivered to me was spot on. I would totally recommend this place.

All star breakfast at Waffle House

Excellent Waffle House experience with a crew that seemed to be pretty happy about being at work today though one of the customers decided to be an ass and rev his shitbox really loud for a couple of minutes. He apparently didn't like his hash browns. Anyway, my "all star breakfast" was good with two over easy eggs that were a little greasy, white bread (zero nutritional value), hash browns ("covered") and a waffle that turned out to be a little bit overdone. Coffee seemed hard to get started because a new pot was brewing but was refilled as needed the rest of the meal. Yep, it was a positive WH visit.

So an old faithful after a long night! I stick with the all American which is a waffle, eggs I get a side of home fries smothered and covered with onions and cheese bacon and toast. What makes this Waffle House unique is the staff is just as upbeat as the music as they have playing in the background that definitely took me back to my college days. They a security guard that watches the parking lot and to make sure the after club folks don't get out of hand!

The cheesesteak bowl was nice, the onions were good, the meat to hash browns ratio was like 1:3, there could be more cheese added to it.

When we pulled up, there was a police outside, which didn't bother us. If anything, it made things feel more secure. They also use a metal detector when you walk in before being seated. Don't let that scare you off though -- this place is a well-oiled machine and everything felt organized and under control. Our server was fantastic: calm, attentive, and never pushy. I ordered the country fried steak with collards and mashed potatoes with gravy, and my husband got a burger. My meal was excellent, and it came with a perfectly flaky biscuit. The tea was Southern SWEET tea, too. My husband said his burger was good for a diner, fresh vegetables and the fries were seasoned well. The diner itself is adorable, full of character and charm. Overall, we had a great experience and would absolutely come back.

Review for Midnight Diner…read more classic, retro-style diner--the kind with a counter, cozy booths, and a nostalgic vibe. The only thing missing is a waitress calling you "hon," and honestly, that might be part of the charm. I was craving a West Coast favorite--chicken fried steak--which I quickly learned is called country fried steak here in the South. Breakfast, lunch, or dinner... it didn't matter. I wanted comfort food, and this place delivered. I ordered takeout and picked it up without any hassle. They have their own private parking lot, which is a huge plus, especially for an Uptown location. It's situated right across from the Hyatt Regency and along the light rail, so I can imagine it gets very busy--particularly if you're heading to or leaving the Spectrum Center. This is exactly the kind of spot where you grab a solid meal to soak up whatever you've been celebrating. And the food? Generous. Very generous. My order included: * Country fried steak with gravy * Mashed potatoes * Pancakes * And, because curiosity got the best of me, their coconut French toast That coconut French toast was the wildcard--and it did not disappoint. Sweet, indulgent, and definitely a treat. Between that and the rest of the meal, it was a lot of food, but I was very happy. The price point is reasonable, the service was fast, and the whole experience felt easy and reliable--exactly what you want from a diner. Next time, I'd like to sit inside and enjoy the full experience, because the atmosphere looks like part of the fun. As someone still exploring Charlotte as a foodie after relocating from the West Coast, it's always nice to find places that deliver those nostalgic comfort-food moments--and this one absolutely did. Bottom line: Great comfort food, generous portions, easy parking, and a classic diner vibe. A solid go-to spot in Uptown, especially when you're hungry and want something satisfying.

A diner, with their wide menu, works well. And our lunch today at Mattie's was excellent. We arrived right at the tail end of the lunch rush. A friendly hostess brought us to the last booth in the front section of the restaurant and then a waitress took our drink orders. Lots of shouting and "Order ready!" from the kitchen while we looked over the menu and then placed our orders. About ten minutes later, a plate of French Toast with vegan sausage on the side for Mrs. K. Light, fluffy, delicious. The sausage was great! For me, Mattie's Mom's Meatloaf. A massive thick slice of meatloaf topped with melted cheese, grilled onions and spicy marinara. My two sides, a creamy cole slaw and green beans with bacon were excellent. We both enjoyed our meals. Neither of us could finish the huge plates! Five stars, will definitely return. [Review 649 of 2025 - 4136 in North Carolina - 24210 overall]

But the Bestie that wanted to have this met me in the parking lot scared there would be cross contamination and wanted to go elsewhere. He's been a dedicated vegan since 2008 or 2010. Either way, this ain't for play nor show. He's principled. The other vegan is really pescatarian and could careless. I have severe allergies and definitely care if there's cross contamination. Young lady seating is asked about how the cooktop works for vegan items: 1) is there a separate cooktop? 2) are new utensils used? They did a good job answering and owning what they didn't know but sought someone to answer the questions. Young lady showed us the place where we'll sit and she would go get answers and be right back. She never came back. Alas, the server showed up and he didn't know either nor did anyone ask him or inform him. I had to clean the table and seats were more upsetting to me. The busboy popped nearby and I asked for his spray bottle and he apologized saying he'd clean. H wiped everything but dried nothing. Server returned without answers but someone got another guy to explain their process. He was helpful. I was content. I can say pics on Yelp leave much to be desired but I got the chicken fried chicken + mashed potatoes and sweet potato waffle fries. The vegans got their food first and we got an explanation. I didn't care. Bring it as it's ready. I understand. Plus y'all know vegan cheese doesn't melt. Lol. I didn't desire their vegan breakfast quesadilla nor padrino (I think that's what one had). See pictures. I must say I wanted to get the greens but I will definitely order them on another visit. The vegan ordered vegan pancakes for All to try. I like the crispy edges of any pancake but didn't need the pecans. The vegan butter and syrup was impressive. We got a lot of apologies in due time as 1) straws were forgotten 2) soup of day query was forgotten 3) refills forgotten 4) table wasn't cleaned 5) Milkshake was delayed but hey ... It takes as long as it takes. But I didn't order it so I can't say. I was most bothered the itemized check was taken away so I don't have an image for this review but also BECAUSE a huge convo took place regarding the tip. A new immigrant to the USA was amongst us AND had legit questions so I was happy to explain but their receipts show 20% totals and higher for tipping yet this receipt show the total with tax. Tips for on the pre-tax total. Long and short I can recommend 1) fried chicken fried 2) sweet potato waffle fries 3) mashed potatoes 4) brown and light gravy 5) vegan pancakes 6) American potatoes looked great but I didn't touch em as I had plenty Parking is rough. Cleanup in between flipping/turning tables doesn't really happen in the overflow and I'm good on that. Like, sweeping and wiping can be done between tables and as parties depart. The staff is younger like everyone appear to be teens which led a dining member inquire where are the adults? I think I saw 1. There is an overflow parking lot.

Place was hopping and the lot was full. I was lucky to pull in as someone was walking to their car so I was in. Just grateful for cameras on the car as the lot is tight and the spaces are narrow. At least it's free. Walked in and there's a line - all were waiting for take out so we were able to bypass them all and was seated right away. Good thing too as the place was just packed. Not an empty table when I went to the restroom or when we were leaving. Service was great. Team effort. Several different team members provided service. From taking your order to refills as follow up and general questions. They were busy but still took time to make sure everyone was taken care of. I say that not that I was in a big party - I meant other tables too. And the food was nice, simple and good. See pics. I wanted the meat gravy I hadn't had in a long time. Then some protein and grits of course. I cleared the plate but couldn't polish off the grits. I was so full on the sweetened ice team that there was no room for anything else. Even the tea hits different in the south, compared to California. Not saying this is the best food you'll ever have but it'll definitely be decent comfort food. Inexpensive and simple.
