When we pulled up, there was a police outside, which didn't bother us. If anything, it made things feel more secure. They also use a metal detector when you walk in before being seated. Don't let that scare you off though -- this place is a well-oiled machine and everything felt organized and under control. Our server was fantastic: calm, attentive, and never pushy. I ordered the country fried steak with collards and mashed potatoes with gravy, and my husband got a burger. My meal was excellent, and it came with a perfectly flaky biscuit. The tea was Southern SWEET tea, too. My husband said his burger was good for a diner, fresh vegetables and the fries were seasoned well. The diner itself is adorable, full of character and charm. Overall, we had a great experience and would absolutely come back.

My wife's avocado toast suffered from the same lack of seasoning. What a disappointment. The service was pretty quick. There really wasn't much ambience to speak of.

A diner, with their wide menu, works well. And our lunch today at Mattie's was excellent. We arrived right at the tail end of the lunch rush. A friendly hostess brought us to the last booth in the front section of the restaurant and then a waitress took our drink orders. Lots of shouting and "Order ready!" from the kitchen while we looked over the menu and then placed our orders. About ten minutes later, a plate of French Toast with vegan sausage on the side for Mrs. K. Light, fluffy, delicious. The sausage was great! For me, Mattie's Mom's Meatloaf. A massive thick slice of meatloaf topped with melted cheese, grilled onions and spicy marinara. My two sides, a creamy cole slaw and green beans with bacon were excellent. We both enjoyed our meals. Neither of us could finish the huge plates! Five stars, will definitely return. [Review 649 of 2025 - 4136 in North Carolina - 24210 overall]

But the Bestie that wanted to have this met me in the parking lot scared there would be cross contamination and wanted to go elsewhere. He's been a dedicated vegan since 2008 or 2010. Either way, this ain't for play nor show. He's principled. The other vegan is really pescatarian and could careless. I have severe allergies and definitely care if there's cross contamination. Young lady seating is asked about how the cooktop works for vegan items: 1) is there a separate cooktop? 2) are new utensils used? They did a good job answering and owning what they didn't know but sought someone to answer the questions. Young lady showed us the place where we'll sit and she would go get answers and be right back. She never came back. Alas, the server showed up and he didn't know either nor did anyone ask him or inform him. I had to clean the table and seats were more upsetting to me. The busboy popped nearby and I asked for his spray bottle and he apologized saying he'd clean. H wiped everything but dried nothing. Server returned without answers but someone got another guy to explain their process. He was helpful. I was content. I can say pics on Yelp leave much to be desired but I got the chicken fried chicken + mashed potatoes and sweet potato waffle fries. The vegans got their food first and we got an explanation. I didn't care. Bring it as it's ready. I understand. Plus y'all know vegan cheese doesn't melt. Lol. I didn't desire their vegan breakfast quesadilla nor padrino (I think that's what one had). See pictures. I must say I wanted to get the greens but I will definitely order them on another visit. The vegan ordered vegan pancakes for All to try. I like the crispy edges of any pancake but didn't need the pecans. The vegan butter and syrup was impressive. We got a lot of apologies in due time as 1) straws were forgotten 2) soup of day query was forgotten 3) refills forgotten 4) table wasn't cleaned 5) Milkshake was delayed but hey ... It takes as long as it takes. But I didn't order it so I can't say. I was most bothered the itemized check was taken away so I don't have an image for this review but also BECAUSE a huge convo took place regarding the tip. A new immigrant to the USA was amongst us AND had legit questions so I was happy to explain but their receipts show 20% totals and higher for tipping yet this receipt show the total with tax. Tips for on the pre-tax total. Long and short I can recommend 1) fried chicken fried 2) sweet potato waffle fries 3) mashed potatoes 4) brown and light gravy 5) vegan pancakes 6) American potatoes looked great but I didn't touch em as I had plenty Parking is rough. Cleanup in between flipping/turning tables doesn't really happen in the overflow and I'm good on that. Like, sweeping and wiping can be done between tables and as parties depart. The staff is younger like everyone appear to be teens which led a dining member inquire where are the adults? I think I saw 1. There is an overflow parking lot.

Unfortunately, we never even had the opportunity to eat because of what happened as we entered the restaurant. As I walked in, the heavy metal door clipped my toe, causing a deep cut that immediately started bleeding profusely. There was blood everywhere. Still in shock, I looked at the host and asked, "Um...where's the bathroom?" He awkwardly pointed me in the right direction. Once inside the restroom, I found there were no paper towels and the sink was dirty, making it even more difficult to clean the wound. My daughter grabbed napkins while I searched for someone who could help or provide a first aid kit. I stood there bleeding, with other customers looking on uncomfortably, while no employee checked on me. Eventually, an employee asked if I needed something. I calmly asked for a first aid kit. I was trying to hold myself together and was on the verge of tears. After some time, he located one and essentially tossed it toward my daughter. He seemed visibly annoyed rather than concerned. No one asked if I was okay, offered assistance, or showed even a small amount of empathy. Once I was able to get the bleeding under control enough to walk, I left in tears and returned to my hotel to properly clean and bandage my foot. Not a single employee checked on me before I left. In fact, it felt like everyone simply disappeared. Because of the incident, I can't comment on the food. However, I can comment on the customer service, and it was incredibly disappointing. Accidents happen--I don't blame the restaurant for that. What I do blame is the complete lack of compassion, urgency, and basic concern shown toward an injured guest who was actively bleeding in the middle of the restaurant. I'm not someone who leaves negative reviews lightly, and I'm certainly not looking for special treatment. I simply expected a little kindness and concern. A simple "Are you okay?" or "Can we help you?" would have gone a long way. Instead, my 12-year-old daughter was the only person helping me while the staff seemed inconvenienced by the situation. Based on this experience, I can't recommend supporting a business that responds to an injured customer with such indifference.

Landmark is open until midnight!! Sometimes you wonder with a diner... with so many dishes to available, how can the food really taste that fresh and homemade? Gotta say... Every dish we've gotten has actually been so fresh and the portions are very generous. You cannot beat it for the price. (How do they do it?!) Also, whomever works in the kitchen - you can tell they really take pride in their job because we watched several plates come out and all of them were done with such care - all so beautifully plated. My chicken parm was a comfort food dream come true; on point and all I hoped for... Tender, juicy chicken, not sure if the sauce was made-from-scratch, but it could pass for it. (I don't know what they use but it's really good.) And they not only did not skimp on the cheese, the whole chicken breast was covered with it - again they are so generous. (That's one thing I'm always secretly craving when I order chicken parm anywhere - more cheese!) The portion was so big, I'll have plenty for lunch tomorrow. An unexpected surprise: Their roasted broccoli with garlic. Say what?? Yep! It is so good. I don't even really like broccoli. Roasted Brussels and fresh green beans roasted are my jam. But these? Look out! They are actually a bit addictive. Our server, Lindsay, suggested them because they've become a customer favorite lately, and I thought well why not, they could be good... so glad I tried them. Also, the staff at Landmark are so friendly! The hostesses make us feel immediately so welcome. (Pro tip: Ask to sit in Lindsay's section. She goes over and above and treats you like family. She also makes the BEST Arnold Palmers!) If you do stop by, you'd be amiss not to grab a dessert to-go. We especially love their Tuxedo Mousse Cake and their chocolate cake is my favorite in town. I am a brownie lover and really appreciate that they do their brownies right. I LOVE walnuts in mine and Landmark's brownies are deliciously fudgy with little chocolate chunks and pieces of walnut. (I would've included a photo, but my brownie somehow disappeared.) We live across town now, but we still make the drive because it's worth it! Love Landmark!

It is restaurant policy that to-go food is just that....to GO. It is also policy that outside food cannot be brought in (not relevant to this story, but to anyone reading). A must stop for both dinner and Southern breakfast enthusiasts…read more On my way home from Charlotte, I used Yelp to find me a classic diner to start my day off right. I choose the Crack of Dawn Diner in Concord. I am so glad I did. Crack of Dawn Diner is the real thing--a local Concord breakfast-and-lunch spot serving traditional Southern fare at reasonable prices. The menu caters to local tastes, the dining room is filled with regulars, and the atmosphere is comfortable rather than trendy. Parking is somewhat limited. The private lot surrounding the restaurant was fully used so I parked in the lot next door that had signs that said private property, but it looked like other patrons were parking there also so I took the chance. As it turns out, it was safe to park there. The entrance is very welcoming, as well as the staff. Amanda was my very efficient and nice waitress. There is great teamwork here, and Amanda was well supported by, I believe, the owner who ran my food out and talked a bit with me. The menu is fascinating. A distinctly North Carolina menu. Several things jumped out: * Breakfast special for $6.59 weekdays * Breakfast plates mostly under $12 * Grits included as a side option * Livermush available * City ham and country ham both offered * Pork chops available for breakfast I ordered the country-fried steak with white gravy (essentially chicken-fried steak), along with two sunny-side-up eggs, perfectly prepared grits, a large buttermilk biscuit, and a delicious diner coffee. The restaurant occupies a stand-alone building with a warm, "come on in and rest a spell" atmosphere. Inside, you'll find counter seating, an open kitchen, and tables throughout the dining room. I chose a seat by the window overlooking the parking area. This was a great breakfast, that was reasonably priced, in a great atmosphere, with very nice people. It stuck to both my mind and ribs all day long. After breakfast, I continued on to downtown Concord and spent some time exploring one of North Carolina's most charming revitalized downtown districts. The breakfast was the perfect start to the morning. Crack of Dawn Diner has earned a spot on my repeat list whenever my travels take me through the Charlotte-Concord area.

It's the kind of place that feels notably special, distinguished and high end without ever feeling stuffy. Everyone is warm and professional, and the food is absolutely worth every penny. During our first visit, I took a chance and ordered the grits. I normally avoid restaurant grits because they're almost always bland, flavorless and gelatinous. But the grits at Easy Like Sunday were completely different in the best way. Creamy with the slightest grainy texture and so perfectly seasoned that you don't need to add butter, salt, pepper or anything else. I had been daydreaming about those grits for two years. We finally made it back this past Friday and arrived when the doors opened at 9:00am. We were seated immediately. I ordered the Little Bit of Everything with eggs, bacon, those unforgettable grits and a thick, fluffy, delicious buttermilk pancake. That first spoonful of grits tasted exactly the way I remembered, maybe even better. My eyes actually welled up with tears. I know that sounds extreme but I'm not exaggerating. After waiting two years to taste them again, they felt familiar and comforting, like coming home. Our waitress, Diana, made the morning even more special. She was warm, welcoming and accommodating. When I told her I could nearly cry over those grits, she didn't make me feel silly or dramatic. She agreed saying,"Oh, I know! We have the best grits!" She said she completely understood why that first bite made me feel emotional. Being served by Diana felt like being taken care of by an old friend.
