I have to admit being a NY Girl living in the South I now enjoy good BBQ. City is well known in the University area. They do catering platters as well. Always good to know when you don't want to cook. Or have guests. Ambiance is friendly which is appreciated. You can either dine in or take it to go. I had the Judges sampler. It's brisket, pulled pork, ribs, and chicken breat and wing. My sides were collard greens and Mac n cheese. Everything was good and we were satisfied. Give them a try

Stopped in as a 4 at about 3pm on a Thursday. Order taken by a sweet young lady and paid for upon arrival. Filled our beverages and took one of the many steel and wood tables and chairs. Chose inside though outside was available. A nice gentleman brought us our trays filled with almost a little something from the entire menu. Samplers of sausage, pulled pork, chicken, brisket, ribs, slaw, mac and cheese and collard greens. Multiple sauces and condiments to choose from also. Enjoy!

We submit a huge catering order for around 50 students and they did such an excellent job!! The catering was there before dinner time, which gave them enough time to set up. It was only 1 girl who came from the business, and while we were working, she was setting everything up, making it presentable. We get lots of catering from different restaurants and it's safe to say, we were the MOST impressed with City BBQ. Other places often just dump the food and leave, making us set up. But this worker did it all by herself and we were so grateful!! The pickles were absolutely delicious. Salty dill with such a great crunch. I also had some green beans which were delicious with pieces of brisket scattered throughout. Our only complaint, was that it ended up not being enough food. Now this isn't their fault, but the worker who set up said to us "if you need more, just call us up and place another order and we can do that!!!" Well, we quickly realized the power of hungry teen boys and called them back to place an order for more meat. The worker who answered was unhelpful and said catering was closed for the night. I had to drive all the way there and place an order for a Party Pack (which was literally more than enough since we can choose how many people we want to feed (we didn't need 50 like the first time, only grabbing a bit like 8-10)). Im not sure why they didn't ask us if we would like a party pack on the PHONE, since it was ready about 5-10 minutes after I ordered it at the counter. Anyways, such a minor complaint about the messiness of the staff, but such a delicious and great choice for dinner!!!

Was expecting a bit more. This place was okay for what it was. The cashier who took my order was rude but the rest of staff was friendly. I don think I'll come back given I'm not from the area. The ambiance was nice! Good was okay!

Most of the menu items a la carte. Over $40 for 2 people. Ummm... when food was ready they called my name and we had to go to the counter to receive. Two other guests in the dining room got table service.

What can you do about the BBQ there? It is finger-licking good, and I mean it. BBQ done well tastes fantastic. I am from California. What can I say? Try this place; you will Love it.

My friends son graduated from high school today and we looked for a place that could accommodate a party of 17, well this was it! On a Friday night we were able to easily order a party platter large enough for everyone. ALL of the staff were super helpful especially Jakari who took our order. Matt is the GM and he made sure we were good before we left. Great manager because when I gave a complement he gave all credit to his staff. I see why they looked like they enjoyed their work. All food was delicious. Tip: if you do a survey you get a free dessert. Chocolate cake, banana pudding or peach cobbler. Peach cobbler tastes like it came out of my kitchen!! Big party or eating out with the fam, definitely check them out!

This was an accidental finding that turned out in our favor. There is an overwhelming amount of options to choose from and the staff is very helpful in making suggestions or explaining possibilities. Pepsi products are offered here, instant plus for me, as well as delicious desserts. The smoked ribs were phenomenal! I'd gladly return and try more menu items.

Optimist Hall itself is a very food-centric, upscale food hall with a ton of vendors, so the atmosphere is energetic and fun. Seating can be a little challenging during peak dinner hours since so many people are grabbing food from different spots, but when the weather is nice there's plenty of outdoor seating. Harriet's keeps their burger formula refreshingly simple. It's a classic smash burger done right--made to order with a straightforward menu that doesn't overcomplicate things. There's usually a line, but it moves pretty quickly, and the burgers come out hot and fresh. One of the best parts of eating here is the flexibility of the food hall experience. While you're waiting, you can grab a craft beer, a glass of wine, or even browse for dessert from one of the other vendors. Insider tip: Come with a group if you can. It's a great place to share fries and let everyone explore different vendors around the hall. Parking is fairly easy with the nearby garage, which makes the whole experience even more convenient. Overall, Harriet's is a fun, delicious stop for a smash burger, especially if you're already enjoying the energy of Optimist Hall.

I live super close to Optimist Hall, so it's been on my radar for a while. This particular night I wasn't feeling great, so I DoorDashed instead of dining in. I ordered the Royale with crispy fries and let me just say... I get it. The burger was genuinely impressive. The quality of the beef stood out immediately. Juicy, flavorful, and cooked perfectly. The meat to bun ratio was spot on, which is crucial. Nothing worse than a bread heavy burger. The lettuce and tomatoes were fresh, the build was balanced, and even after delivery, everything held up beautifully. So far I've tried two burger spots in Charlotte, and this one takes the top spot. I'm not ready to declare it the best in the entire city just yet because my burger tour is ongoing, but right now it's leading the race. I'll definitely be going to Optimist Hall soon to try it fresh off the grill and experience the service and atmosphere firsthand. Expect an update. But based on this first round alone, Harriet's is absolutely worth the order. Burger lovers, this one deserves a try.

As a West Coast transplant now living in Charlotte, I have very specific standards when it comes to…read moreburgers. For me, the gold standard isn't fancy -- it's balance. Think that perfect meat-cheese-bread ratio you get at an In-N-Out: not too big, not too messy, not dripping everywhere, but still juicy and satisfying. A burger you can actually pick up and enjoy without resorting to a knife and fork like George Costanza. That's why I appreciate Ace No. 3. Their menu is refreshingly simple -- burgers, fries, shakes -- and that simplicity tells me they know exactly what they do well. Everything is made to order, and the consistency shows. The Ace burger is my go-to, and it delivers every time. The shoestring fries are excellent, and the sweet potato tots are another favorite. I've also treated myself to a milkshake here and there, and they're worth it. Fun bonus: they offer "boozy shakes" for adults, which adds a playful twist -- just note they have to be enjoyed on site. They also keep a short, rotating list of beers, which I appreciate. It's curated, not overwhelming. One thing I noticed recently -- and as a fellow marketer, I have to applaud this -- is their milkshake happy hour from 2-4 PM. That's a smart strategy to drive traffic during slower hours between lunch and dinner. Simple, effective, and well executed. A few practical notes: Parking can be a little tight because the lot behind the restaurant is small, but if you go during off-peak hours or order ahead for pickup, it's manageable. The Belmont neighborhood location is easy to get in and out of, and while it's not a high-traffic pedestrian area, that can actually work in your favor. Bottom line: As someone who grew up with West Coast burger culture, this is the closest I've found in Charlotte to that classic, satisfying bite -- even if it costs a bit more than In-N-Out. The quality and execution make it worth it. Get out there, eat well, be curious -- and follow me as I continue eating my way through Charlotte.
