Wow!!! if you ever need a catering company, this is the place to go to. The Smoke Pit did not disappoint at her daughter's wedding reception. Never have I been to a reception or banquet where food is talked about as much as it was this past weekend, everything was warm tasty the service was superb, friendly, and even gave us advice if we didn't want to retain the leftovers to be able to donate to the local fire or police department, which I think is fantastic. My most recent visit to The Smoke Pit was on a Thursday evening this past July. On a previous visit to the Concord/Charlotte area, we found this place when searching online for a good barbeque spot near our location. Luckily, we landed on The Smoke Pit, and now have a favorite restaurant to visit each time we are in the area. The restaurant is located on Concord Parkway, just a few minutes off of 85. It is in its own building that is half restaurant and half meat market, but all the same entity. There is plenty of parking in front and on the side of the building. However, it seems to fill up with all of the patrons coming and going! For the restaurant portion, there is indoor seating, as well as some outdoor tables. You will have no issue locating the place, as it is clearly marked with signage. We stopped here just after 5:00 PM, and it was fairly busy. The line to order was not too long, and there were several tables open for dine-in. However, the line continued to grow after we ordered with it being right at prime dinner time. There is a lot of signage to direct and instruct patrons, but in-person orders take place at the counter. After you enter on the left side of the building, you keep left to get into the ordering line. There is a menu with the items available all the time, and also advertised are any specials, sides of the day, or desserts. Once you reach the register, the staff takes your order and is able to answer any questions that you have. I have always found the staff to be both friendly and helpful on each of my visits to the restaurant. The selection is as expected - primarily barbeque. They have lots of different meats, including pork, chicken, sausage, ham, turkey, brisket, ribs, and more. Meats can be ordered by themselves, as part of a plate, combo, by the pound, or even in whole portions. They also have wings, sandwiches, sides, salads, desserts, and a kid's menu. Sides can be included in a plate, but also ordered in single, pint, or quart sizes as well. On this trip, we ordered our food to-go. We decided on a BBQ Combo with 2 Meats to split. For this, we ordered the Chicken Quarters and Pulled Pork. The combos come with two sides, for which we chose Baked Mac and Cheese and Deviled Egg Potato Salad. Texas Toast was our bread of choice. Additionally, we ordered a side of the Hashbrown Casserole, which was the side of the day. We also wanted to try the wings, so we ordered a 3-count of the Hickory Smoked Jumbo Chicken Wings in Southern Sweet, which also comes with celery, carrots, and ranch. Lastly, we ordered the Chicken Tenders and Fries Kid's Meal for our dog! I am not certain if they are made in-house, but there are several sauces to choose from. On the tables, there are bottles of Southern Sweet, Lexington Dip, South Carolina Mustard, and Sizzling Barbeque. The restaurant will also provide to-go cups for you to take sauce with your takeout orders. Even taken to-go, this barbeque is still some of the best. The Chicken Quarters and Pork were both flavorful and moist. We enjoyed all of the sides, but were not particularly blown away by the Hashbrown Casserole. The wings were great as well - no complaints there. Especially for the price, we got a ton of food. Even with sharing between two people, we had plenty to go around and some to take home with us. I thought the Kid's Meal was a very generous portion, especially for the price! The chicken and fries were both good, and it also came with a fountain drink/tea and a cookie. It would definitely be more than enough for any child to feel satisfied with their meal. Our dog loved it as well! Personally, I think the prices at this restaurant are very fair. Especially considering the quality and quantity of food provided at that price, it is hard to beat. As with any restaurant, there are some menu items that may not be the best deal at the price (I.e. some of the sides being $12 a quart), but particularly for the meats and combo meals this is not the case. I so wish The Smoke Pit was not a destination out of town for us! There is a reason this place is so popular and heavily-trafficked. The meat is great, the prices are very fair, and the staff are very friendly. It is a great experience whether you eat out or dine-in. I would highly recommend giving this place a try the next time you are in the area! P.S. I just moved here and lost weight the first week I settled in, but clearly now that I've discovered this place that's all going to change. I don't even have a job yet and should not be ordering food (although the price was reasonable honestly) but here we are. The ribs were literally falling off the bone (I sent a video to friends back home to make them jealous), the mac and cheese was the best I have EVER had in my 40 years on this early (the crispy parts throughout? stop it), the beans were so flavorful, and the potato salad was delicious and had just enough of everything without being overpowering. Ordering was quite easy and simple, and meals were served surprisingly fast. The quantity and quality of food served were both excellent. Plenty of delicious smoked meats with steaming hot side dishes. Wait staff was fast, effective, and courteous. For those of you that read my reviews, you know that I always try to visit a local BBQ joint. This time it was The Smoke Pit. I had the burnt ends sandwich with beans. I believe that any place that smothers their Q in sauce is covering up mediocre Q. This place was no different. In this case, the culprit was Lexington Sauce. The Q had only a hint of smoke and was served with ONIONS slathered in sauce. which is a sin to the BBQ Gods. I, for one, don't like to bite into my sandwich and have slimy anything touching my tongue. Now, I know Carolina loves it's vinegar-based sauce. Most it makes me want to vomit. Lexington Sauce didn't make me vomit but it wasn't to my liking. It may have been more palatable if it hadn't have been so prevalent. There was also a second sin committed: I found a 1 inch square of fat in my sandwich. The beans weren't bad. I just prefer sweet and tangy beans. The place is evidently popular as it was very crowded during lunch. I wanted to invite all the people in there to come to Memphis for some REAL BBQ. Very very surprised and impressed with my first Carolina BBQ experience. This bbq pit is located about 25 minutes outside of Charlotte, and 35 minutes from CLT airport. IT IS WORTH THE DRIVE! Food: They definitely know how to keep the BBQ meats traditional and delicious. I opted to order the 3 meat combo just to sample all of my smoked favorites (brisket, ribs, and pulled pork). I opted for the fatty (point) brisket and it did not disappoint. It was melt-in-your-mouth smooth and tender. Eat it without any sauce to really appreciate the beefy flavor. The pork ribs I selected were sauced (wet). It shined and looked juicy, and it tasted twice as good as it looked. The meat was tender and bite-through, but not falling off the bone (that's when it's overcooked). The ribs were one of the best I've had in a restaurant and could have passed for competition ribs, they were that good! The pulled pork was plentiful and had natural pork flavors, but was a little dry and could have used some more au jus sprinkled on. It pairs well with the Lexington BBQ sauce. The sides were average and the Texas Toast was buttery and crispy. I liked how there were multiple ice tea options (sweet, unsweet, and watermelon). The price was a little high for a typical bbq lunch, but you get so much food, it is worth the money. Service: The staff at the counter was friendly and gave me good advice for ribs. They employees come around each table regularly to check on customers and clean table. Ambiance: The restaurant is in a building share with a market. There is plenty of parking in front of the building. They offer indoor and outdoor seating. What I loved was that I smelled smoked BBQ meats as soon as I parked my car and opened the car door. Y'all, yesterday 7/2/25, I went to The Smoke Pit in Concord and I was pleasantly surprised. I've been there before, but this time the line was out of the door. On Wednesdays they have 3 sides Wednesday so if your order typically comes with 2 sides, you can add a 3rd side for the same price. I ordered the 4 bone ribs with Mac and cheese, collard greens, and for my 3rd free side, I ordered the sweet potato casserole (my first time trying it). I also ordered 3 smoked jumbo wings with the dragon sauce. Y'all, those wings were amazing! I didn't even get to my ribs because they were so delicious. The sauce is sweet, tangy, and has a nice kick of heat!10 out of 10! The sweet potato casserole was delicious. My friend and I both were surprised because at first glance, it just looked like mash up sweet potatoes, but they were yummy. They have nuts in them so beware if you have a nut allergy! The restaurant was buzzing and seats were limited but my friend and I managed to get a seat by the time we ordered. The vibe was very chill.
