Dinner For Two - 3 Meat
Kate M.

Big Tiny's is great Texas BBQ in the Carolinas. It's not often that I get brisket that reminds me of where I grew up. We waited out the rain and got dinner before Throttle Thursday tonight. We ordered the Dinner for 2 with three meats, two sides, and two breads (Texas toast and hush puppies please!). The kids (3 and 5) loved the hush puppies, Mac and cheese, and even ate some fried okra (my favorite). My husband and I did our best on the delicious meat, but had to get a to-go box. Comfortable, casual atmosphere and friendly staff. Take a stroll in downtown Mooresville and sample some of the great local businesses!

Ribs, brisket, jalapeño sausage. Mac and cheese, hush puppies, cornbread.

Hate to do this to a place I have loved so much but the portions have really fallen off across the board. Wife asked if 1/4 pound of ribs was enough for one person. They said yes. Two bones. It's two bones. Two. Can't say what a 1/4 pound looks like but...you thought this was enough for a grown human? Making a PBJ to go with my dinner I guess.

The value proposition here is great. Portion sizes made my eyes pop out. As a Texan, my concept of "barbecue" includes smoke. But I'm aware that NC does things differently, I guess with sauce. I'm not a sauce girlie. The brisket appeared to be boiled, or cooked in some liquid. Mac and cheese tastes as expected. Service was ok. The cashier seemed a little uncomfortable with my presence, but she was not *overtly rude.

On our way home from visiting good friends in South Carolina we decided to stop in Mooresville to grab a late lunch/early dinner. As always, we searched Yelp and found Big Tiny's in our bookmarks. WOW, the entire experience was fantastic! It reminds us of visiting Tyler's BBQ in Amarillo, Texas. which is #4 on Yelp's Top 100 BBQ Spots, 2024. We parked on the street in historic downtown Mooresville and walked to the front door located below the bright blue canopy. We were very impressed with the historic downtown area, the architecture and overall charm. It appears a lot of effort has been made to bring life back to the historical area. We love and appreciate the industrial feel and preserved exposed brick inside. Big Tiny's is decorated very tastefully and is warm, welcoming and appears to be very clean. The style is similar to other BBQ restaurants where you follow the order line to the counter, place your order and have a seat. They bring your order out to you. Fortunately for us, there was no line. As we made our way to the order counter, we looked at the pictures on the wall. We quickly understood the name, Big Tiny is in honor of the owners dog, "Big Tiny" Maddox. The proud owners share their story along the wall as you approach the counter. We were greeted by a woman who was friendly and helpful. We asked her about her favorite menu items and also asked if the chili had beans. When she told us it didn't and offered us a sample, we were eager to try. Their chili is made with brisket and ground beef. We were amazed with the size of the sample provided and we quickly ate it up. It was so good, we both knew we were going to order more! My wife decided to try a few sides to go with her small chili. She chose the sweet potato casserole and coleslaw and we ordered a large hush puppies to share. I chose the pulled pork sandwich with baked mac and cheese as my side. I also ordered a small chili with cheese and onions. We filled our drinks and went to a table to wait for our food to arrive. A young woman delivered our food and it all looked absolutely delicious. As usual, my phone ate first, but after the pics were taken we immediately dug in. The chili was really, really, good. It actually inspired us to make brisket chili in the near future when meal prepping. You can't go wrong with hush puppies and the large order is clearly large enough for multiple people and/or leftovers. My wife is new to eating and loving sweet potatoes and when she gets the chance to order sweet potato casserole, she jumps at the opportunity. She assured me that Big Tiny's does it well! She also enjoyed the coleslaw. I ended up eating the chili, mac and cheese and hush puppies and saving my pulled pork sandwich. I really enjoyed the mac and cheese, I am a bit of a mac and cheese connoisseur and it was delicious. We also couldn't resist and ordered a banana pudding when we were finishing our meals and it was equally delicious. Oh, and I also had go back and get a pint of their chili to go for my lunch during the week. A perfect five star experience, we are already excited to come again when passing through the area. Big Tiny's recently celebrated their 8th anniversary and we wish them continued success.

Pulled pork sammy, brisket, spare ribs, red slaw

Is this the best bbq I've had? No. But! Is this the best bbq I've had for spending this little money? Absofreakinglutely. Sauces are a bit basic but they're good. Spare ribs don't exactly fall off the bone but they're juicy and oh damn is that a good rub. Pulled pork has a nice tang to it and good flavor. Goes well with the slaw. Brisket passes the fork test (if you need a knife, it fails) and also had a nice rub on it. Overall it's good quality 'cue but at deceptively low prices. Great find here in Mooresville.

Big Tony's comes Big Through. We were staying in Mooresville and BT's is definitely the best BBQ spot within at least an hour. Very casual, friendly setting. Well-priced with a nice staff and, most importantly, quality barbecue. I went brisket and 2 sides (corn and coleslaw) but I did have to get up there and add one more side in the end since it was all so good. Brisket was top as well. Recommend BT's in you're in NC !

Awesome food! This is a great place to eat at. They have a nice dining area and the ambience is nice as well. All the people that work there are very friendly.

Not a bad spot, but not spectacular. I personally think the food was a bit over hyped and actually enjoyed the sides more than the meat. Small town bbq vibes inside and a great family spot to eat.

Very tasty, fries were on point, onion rings were fresh however there was a bone in my tender. I would try to receive compensation for that because I could be in the hospital for this. I understand it happens but still dangerous

Ask the Community - Big Tiny's BBQ

Is the BBQ Sauce Vinegar based(NC Style) or does it actually taste good like normal BBQ Sauce?

Some meats come with sauce...some do not. There are 3-4 sauces on the table for you to choose from for the items that's don't come sauced

I wasn't sure what to expect as I get a pasta salad done similarly but I can tell you that I was highly impressed with the tomato based broth, the depth of the broth, creamy consistency of the orzo and pieces of fresh spinach. A side of crumbled feta accompanied it to toss in - and it definitely added to the flavors!!! I originally came here for the fried catfish - and it did not disappoint! Two pieces of fish, two sides (collards and broccoli cheese) and hushpuppies was $16.99. I had originally gotten the squash but I'm not a fan of breaded and fried. My server was gracious and let me swap it out. My service was quick, my server was the absolute sweetest and I'm already trying to figure out my next visit!

We ended up ordering 2 fountain drinks, the spinach crab fondue, the seared scallop appetizer, farmers cobb salad, a caprese avocado panini with onion straws and a side of fries, french onion soup, and the espresso creme brulee. First and foremost, the food came out insanely fast. The seared scallops with creamed corn and pesto was fresh and delightful with a great sear. I do wish they were a bit bigger for the price, but it was a nice starter. The spinach crab fondue was so nice and hot when it came out that it was still bubbling. Strong crab flavor, a good portion size and plenty of fresh chips. The farmers Cobb salad had lots of seasoned fried chicken in it, the greens were fresh and the blue cheese dressing was nice and creamy. It even came with a fresh dinner roll. We advised the server we were going to split the panini and she was nice enough to plate them separately putting the onion straws on one and fries on the other. It wasn't so much a panini as it was just a ciabatta sandwich. The bottom bun was soggy as was the bacon but it was still very cheesy and tasty. The fries were hot and fresh and the onion straws weren't greasy and had a nice crunch. The French onion soup was hot and cheesy and was a nice portion. Could have had a bit more onion, but it hit the spot for the price. The espresso creme brulee was very very delicious. Not too sweet, had a great texture and came with a fresh strawberry, however the top could've been a bit hotter. A great way to end the meal. Overall, the meal was $99, which I think is very reasonable. Food came out quickly, tasted hot and fresh and thats exactly what you'd want on a cold day. Will definitely be back to try other menu options.

This place, from reviews, is as inconsistent as the other three - and I've eaten at the other three. We got the What-A-Cheeseburger with lettuce, tomato, mayo, and pickles, a Footlong with mustard, chili, and onions, along with FF, a Witch Doctor, and Sundrop. The burger and hot dog were solid, but not spectacular, and the FF were simply awful, cold with no flavor. And yet I enjoyed this experience, the nostalgia raises up the food and the moment.
