The updated Jake's R&R has not disappointed. I've been twice since the name change and new menu. I was worried it wouldn't measure up but I think R&R has done a great job with the new menu rollout. They kept the traditional bbq fare but I've been trying out the newer items. And with any new menu they have increased the prices but I will say with that they have stepped up on portions and quality. They've been around for decades and I think they will continue stay a favorite in this area for years to come. read more

I came here for the first time tonight looking for a barbecue sandwich. The food was decent and the service was great. My date and I both ordered a barbecue sandwich with slaw. She got a side of onion rings and I got mac and cheese. The sandwich was good. The barbecue could have been more flavorful. The red slaw was good. The onion rings were really good. The mac and cheese was enjoyable. The service was really good. According to the receipt our server was Taylor B. She was very efficient. She took great care of us the entire time we were there. The place was clean. They had a 98.5 sanitation grade posted. I went to the restroom to wash my hands and it was clean and well kept. The atmosphere of the restaurant was relaxed. read more

This was my first time trying this place. Let met tell you. I was in HOG HEAVEN. The food was THE BEST BBQ I've ever had at a restaurant. The service was impeccable. It felt like we were truly cared for. The overall look and feel of the restaurant was so inviting. I was raised around trains my entire life. It was a Saturday evening at dinner time. Major community event plus a NASCAR race taking place during dinner - why would you not staff up??? We were seated immediately. Took 20 min to get an appetizer and another 30+ to get food. Server kept trying to buy time "it's coming up now" and still took another 10 min on both the app and the meal. Be honest. As I only moved to the area a year ago, I've only been to R&R twice. My partner being a local has been many times. I can see why it's been around so long. First of all, the ambiance is as nostalgic as you're gonna get. Even after moving locations they kept up their theme to a T. It is an adorable restaurant and if you have kids, they better know about this gem. They have a railroad track with train overhead and tons of things that go with the theme. The place is big enough to accommodate any size party as well. Being that we went on a weeknight, our service was great too. The food was fresh and came out rather quickly. We got two huge plates and each tried a little of everything the first time and even had leftovers for the next day. My favorite meat was the pulled pork that I smothered in vinegar sauce and then used the sweet sauce to dip. My favorite item overall was the fried corn on the cob though. It will get stuck in your teeth though. The second time I had it was to go on a Monday night to try their Mississippi pot roast. It was great but not the same portion size you get from the bbq and I can't say that I blame them. You do get a load of mashed potatoes with it and choice of another side. It was also very flavorful. But, I'll stick to making my own. I'm looking forward to going back, this is the kind of place I'll work my way through the whole menu. read more

I am an admitted BBQ snob, and I love trying new BBQ places, but this one left me disappointed. The sweet sauce is good, but not anything special. I didn't try the spicy vinegar. I was a little surprised when the brisket came and it was covered in sauce already. If I had known, I would have made sure to order it without sauce since there is some at the table. I like to be able to try the un sauced meat first because the rub and the smoke are the most important part. The brisket was mediocre at best. It was moist and tender and they gave a nice mix of fatty and lean meat but the flavor was very basic. BBQ is too expensive for it to just be okay. The mac and cheese is amazing though. It had a nice cheesy crust. It's baked so there isn't a lot of sauce, but it has all the flavor that the brisket was missing. Also, they put a pickle spear in my salad which was...weird and for me, made the salad inedible. I specifically asked my waitress what came on the salad and she definitely didn't mention the pickle. Oh, and the hush puppies are pretty good. There were a little dense but the crust was amazing and had a nice sweetness to it. Overall, I'm glad I tried it but I won't be back. read more

Food tonight was good as usual but service was AWFUL for the first time. Business was slow. order was taken promptly and served within 10 mins. server came by 2 times at first. then not again. We needed a box for leftovers and waited 30 mins after we were finished eating and no one stoped at our table. My husband finally went to get the box himself. We were sitting in the booth closest to the kitchen counter facing the inside of the restaurant. Every server passed us a multitude of times, even our original server and no one stopped! Big Mistake - ordered 2 Engineer's plates with mayo slaw, BBQ beans, mac & cheese, green beans, an order of onion rings and banana pudding for desert. When we got home the pulled pork was grey - my wife wouldn't touch it. The slaw had a very bad aftertaste - clearly something wrong. Paid $26.00 for a "FULL RACK RIB PLATE" that I was looking so forward to. Ribs were the worst ribs I have ever had!!!! The meat was so tough that it was a challenge to even cut the meat from the bone with a knife, which was the only way possible to get the meat off the bone of these ribs. Extremely chewy and truly impossible to eat. This is not how ribs are to be prepared. Called R&R back to give them some feedback on the condition of the ribs.
