Legit dive. Regs only so expect a lot of stares on your first time in. Do get chicken dinner on your first visit. This is what they're known for so it's a good idea to start at the top. The chef salad was selling like hot cakes when I was there for lunch. I think 8 orders went out during my 30-40 minute visit. I prob won't try it but if you're looking for a "healthier" option, then go with that. Parking is tough and large group seating is even tougher. Don't let the storefront fool you! The food is good !!!! And I must say, their homemade ranch is some of the best ranch I've ever had!! Well, as the name tells you it's a chicken joint lol but they have more than chicken. They offer burgers, fish, philly cheese steak, gyros, hot dogs, pork chops sandwiches .... I mean if you have a taste for it, they may have it ! Even the fries are seasoned nicely and taste delicious. I have been here multiple times over the years and I have yet to get something I did not enjoy. Definitely try the chicken if you haven't as it bares their name. Ordered thru a delivery service. I got the fish platter with french fries, hush puppies and dressing, with both cocktail and tartar sauces. When it arrived everything was so greasy, the hush puppies were burned and sitting in the liquid from the coleslaw . The texture of the fish was mushy and there were bones in both pieces. The coleslaw was warm and nasty. The dressing wasn't delivered at all. The cocktail sauce was a weird kind of chunky, like jello that was smashed with a fork. The fries were greasy and unsalted and no ketchup was provided. This was one of the worst meals I've had in quite a long time. If I could give this "restaurant" minus 2 stars, I absolutely would. They have several location throughout the Charlotte area, and I will admit all the ones that I've been too have been equally as good! Even though their name is chicken king don't be afraid to try their salads which don't disappoint!!! I have to admit I normally get their fried fish sandwich, pork chop sandwich or their cheeseburgers. On this visit I stuck to their name fried chicken ( I also got fries and fried okra) the meal definitely hit the spot! I've been dying to try this place. I'm so disappointed. I ordered a two piece thigh & leg with green beans, mashed potatoes and gravy. The green beans were the best thing on the plate. Even the shell makes way better fried chicken. The mashed potatoes tasted like the potato flakes that come in the box that you add water to.. not even a name brand box for crying out loud. They were watery & I hated them. I took one bite of the chicken & my mouth filled with oil. It's like they took the chicken out the vegetable oil & put it right on the plate without straining off some of it. I can still taste it hours later. I can't stand the taste of vegetable oil. I was highly disappointed by the way their BBQ chicken wings were prepared. I thought with a name like "Chicken King" they would be on top of their chicken game, sadly, not so. I ordered 8 BBQ chicken wings and got 8; that is where it went in the wrong direction. In my 60+ years of eating BBQ wings, I have never had the displeasure of eating deep-fried, batter-coated wings with BBQ sauce poured over them and called BBQ wings. Yes, I said poured, not dipped, because if they had dipped the wings, at least there would have been BBQ sauce coating the entire wing - as it was, most of the wing was missing BBQ sauce. This is so wrong on so many levels! I know I will have to go elsewhere to get my BBQ Wing fix as this place does not know how to properly fix BBQ Wings! read more

Ok so I've been here too many times to count and can't believe I haven't left a review. Maybe I secretly don't want the people to know about this place :) I haven't had a thing here I didn't love. Chicken wings, fried shrimp, chicken pita, gyro, fish, cheeseburgers, FRIES, fried okra, etc. I'm embarrassed to say but you name it I've probably tried it. The portions are always overflowing to the point of the takeout boxes not closing. The ladies at the front are always so nice and seem to remember everyone's names or know what's going on in their patrons lives. It's such a great sense of community. It feels like you're going to pick up food from a family members house. You know, the ones who you trust and will actually eat their food. I haven't eaten inside yet but I will one of these days. I'm sure there will be lots of people watching bc this place stays busy. But in a good way. Oh I almost forgot!! You have to try the cake! Doesn't matter what flavor. Just try the cake! read more

Dont' get me wrong, the chicken is good, but when I go to a straight up fried chicken place right near the hood, I want EPIC. 5 stars compared to KFC. Its on the edge of a strip mall next to a gas station right on sugar creek. Great location for a drive through window type place, but thats not the case. I went in to buy a BUNCH of chicken for all the wonderful people that had just helped me move. It took a lot longer than I expected but that was some good fried chicken. The food was hot but not that fresh, the trio is consisted of baby shrimps,fish,wings or chicken stripes,fries,slaw and hushed puppies. Well the fish was fried to hard and the crust was hard and the inside was barely done. The baby shrimps were not freshly cooked but thrown in the plate on top of hot fish. The slaw was submerged in the hot container. The three wings were 2 flats and a drummette. The flats had so many feathers on one of them I pulled the skin off to eat it without the skin. This is my 2nd time eating at this location and this time was worst than the first. Maybe Chicken King use to be better but this plate was garbage. read more

This is one of those places that you wouldn't think might be kind of questionable, but is actually pretty nice. It's right next to a gas station which doesn't help with that image, nor does the parking situation. but once you get inside it has the atmosphere of a neighborhood diner. The food was very well done, very fresh and tasty. The chicken club was very good, with the cheese melted all over it. The only thing that could have really been improved upon was the service. The girls looked bored and like they didn't really want to be there. But then again they also looked like they were in high school, and trying to make teenagers happy is a pointless effort. read more

I don't know why it's taken me so long to do a review. I've been going to Chicken King for several years now and the food is always great. I've tried many menu items, salads, fried chicken wings, chicken tenders, fried fish, burgers and more. Always a friendly staff too. Prices are reasonable (even after the increase) and they give you your money's worth. They only thing they seem to need improvement on is the french fries. I like my fries to be crispy and theirs are always soft and they also don't season them. The food is very good so something small like soft fries won't keep me from going back. read more

The fried chicken livers are so tender and good. The chicken is pretty good. This place I need to visit more to try other things on the menu. The lemon cake was moist and tasty. Came for the fried chicken and while everything on the menu was tempting (salads, burgers, sandwiches), stuck to my guns and ordered the fried chicken. Smart decision - the breast was moist, skin perfectly crispy and still can't believe the whole dinner with 2 sides was less than $10. Will come back for more for sure. They are always smiling and friendly and they know your name. They practically know all they're customers names. They even try their best to save you a dollar ot two! Now thats what I'm talking bout!
