One of those places was Waffle House, a name I had heard about but never visited until now. A colleague from Atlanta had talked about it often--especially the hash browns--and described the experience as something of a rite of passage in the South. Naturally, my curiosity got the best of me. I finally visited one location, and I have to say, I was genuinely impressed. I ordered steak and eggs with crispy hash browns and pancakes, and everything arrived exactly as requested. The steak was cooked medium rare, the eggs were perfectly done over medium, and the hash browns were beautifully crisp. The food was simple, satisfying, and well executed--classic comfort food done right. What really stood out, though, was the experience at the counter. Sitting there and watching the cook prepare meals in such a compact space for a restaurant that seats dozens of people felt like live theater. The kitchen is completely visible, and the level of coordination, timing, and organization was impressive. It honestly felt like watching a well-rehearsed symphony. The staff worked efficiently, kept everything clean and orderly, and handled the flow of orders with professionalism. I was also pleasantly surprised to learn that the food is prepared fresh--real eggs, cooked to order--and not from frozen or powdered shortcuts. That attention to basics goes a long way. Other highlights: * Friendly, attentive staff * Easy parking and convenient access * Great value for the quality and portion size * A uniquely open kitchen experience you rarely get to see I left a generous tip because the service and execution deserved it, and I walked away with a completely new appreciation for this iconic Southern institution. My earlier assumptions about Waffle House were definitely corrected. I imagine weekends can get busy, so I personally prefer visiting during quieter, off-peak hours when you can enjoy the meal and observe the rhythm of the kitchen without the rush. Bottom line: If you're new to the South or simply curious, visiting a Waffle House really is a rite of passage. We came in for breakfast. The server Billy was friendly and efficient. Ambiance very clean and your typical waffle house adornment. I had the breakfast consisting of two eggs, bacon, and hash browns scattered, smothered, and diced. It was very good definitely a step above Dennys. A long time staple in the south its hard to get a bad meal at a Waffle House (depending on location). This one was not too crowded on a Tuesday so it made for a pleasant meal. read more

I placed an online pickup order and unfortunately, my drink was missing and the peanut butter chips I paid extra for weren't added to my waffle. I had to go back in for the drink, and the staff member I spoke to was very rude and didn't want to give me my drink and questioned whether I ordered it at all. I didn't have time to return again for the missing topping. I understand it can be busy, but please ensure online orders are checked carefully against the receipt. A superb location across from the Mall of Georgia. Entrance is conveniently located at a traffic light. Plenty of spacious parking since the waffle house is amidst some shopping strips (again across from the mall). Time of day: Late morning. Not too busy. Was able to go in at the 11 am hour and able to secure a table booth. Service: Service waa great. Didn't have to ask for refills or any food to be recooked. Asked for a delay on the waffle as part of an allstar meal it the request was adhered to. A lot of the waitresses were Spanish/English bilingual, which was nice. If I happen to be at the mall again on a Saturday, this Waffle House will definitely remain an option for my family and me. read more

I'm not from GA but when I came to visit ATL and Buford,going to the famous and almost everywhere spot to eat was one of my goals. This unpretentious waffle craze got me and I loved every minute of my dining here with my girlfriends and the food? The waffle batter reminds me of sidewalk pancake street food in the Philippines. So light and simple but still satisfying! Ahhhh their coffee! I wonder why it tastes so good. Black with no sugar was just right. The toast dipped in my over-easy eggs....Waffle House made my morning perfect. Ok the people in GA are polite so does this place. I could tell that workers here are happy! BEST WAFFLEHOUSE EVER!!!!! The service here is great, especially the guy with the dagger tattoo behind his ear. He is super welcoming and makes sure you get what you order. Love this chain, and love this place. I eat here when I'm shopping in or by the Mall, and it's a consistent comfort food source. If you've eaten at one WaHo, you've eaten at 90% of them. The only difference is the staff and sometimes the theme. The waffles are a staple, and if you're a newbie, just order the All Star Breakfast and they'll ask you for the choices within that great deal meal. Then, as they prepare it, you can study the hash brown dialect, so next time you can get it scattered, smothered, covered, capped, diced and chunked (and know what that means). If you're really hungry, just get it scattered and country. And the rest of the menu is good too. read more

Overall look of the place is dirty. The cook seemed like he didn't really care about the quality of the food. The waitress was very nice and attentive. However I would not come back to this location...at least not on the early am (2am). Unless they improved. The bacon was too crisp the eggs was half under cokes and saw the chef pulling out something from the egg while he cooked it...could of been a piece of the shell. This was my first time eating at a Waffle House.... I've heard nothing but good things, so while I'm GA... I gave it a try. I had the Pecan waffle, Cheese Grits, Hash browns w/ Smothered onions & bacon... Pecan Waffle - LOVED (my only complaint would be that they need to spread the pecans throughout the waffle. It was like they dumped a pound of pecans right in the middle) Cheese Grits - Just OK... I swear they sat a slice of kraft singles on my grits. They tasted okay though. Hash Browns w/ smothered onions - I didn't see any onions although the waitress insisted they were there. Anyhow, I didn't like them at all. I'm more of a homefries kind of girl. Bacon - well bacon is bacon. All in all.... glad I tried it out, if I'm ever in the south again the pecan Waffle may draw me back in... but other than that... it's a one and done for me. Walked in this location around 8:30pm on Black Friday. There were two other patrons in the place. The first table we looked at was dirty, no dishes. It the table clearly was unclean. Tried another table. Not as dirty as the last but still not as clean as my liking. I preceded to wipe the table with a napkin. Mind you....two other people dining in, one cook and one server. The server got our drink orders and gave us a little time. Yes, I've been to Waffle House hundreds of times but I still cruise the menu every single time. Lol Server comes back with our silverware. One my cousins always asks for a cup of hot water (to soak the silverware in). My fork had so much food on it. I can't. I didn't. We told him never mind on the drink orders (all waters) and left. I really want to give them a one star. But I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. It's Black Friday -even though the place was empty! But maybe they had a rough day and it was jammed packed all day. They weren't the most pleasant people, they seemed to care less that we were there. No greeting. No smiles. No how's your your day. I should have known it was going to be bad when I walked into an empty restaurant. The servers was not the most friendliest nor pleasant human being. My daughter and I weren't ready to order but asked the server if we could have coffee but she declined and said she'll take our order all at one time. We left the location and went somewhere else. If I could put zero stars I would. I ordered a to go order at 11:05 AM showed up 20 to 25 minutes after my to go order still wasn't ready waited another 15 minutes my to go order still wasn't ready. Worst service I've ever received in a long time. I tried to be patient but the woman on the phone said my food was going to take at least seven minutes to be made I got there and had to wait another 15 to 20 minutes so ridiculous. and other people that had place to go orders and got to sit down before me wasn't even served and received horrible service walked out very angry. This was a good Waffle House! My waffle was perfectly made, and my order of hashbrowns were crispy. A lot of locations are hasty with the hashbrowns and don't crisp them, but this one does! I can't complain about service, it was good. The restaurant was also clean. It was nothing extraordinary, but definitely good. read more

If you're in the mood for greasy American food this is the place to go. But you already knew that because who hasn't tried Waffle House!? This waffle house is a gamble. Been here quite a few times now. The food is what you'd expect from a waffle house. The manager, Laura, is extremely friendly and works very hard. Never seen that woman not working, even when the place is empty. The waitresses are friendly during the day (never been at night). One that stands out is named Rachel. Always been courteous. The other few I've had wait on me were about average, but not bad. However the cook is toxic to this location. Young white guy, skinny, wears black rim glasses and a black hat. No name tag. He is the reason I am even reviewing it. On numerous occasions I've seen and heard him be rude to the staff, throwing and slamming plates. Slamming other things around and just having an all around bad attitude. Today as I sit here, he forgot something on my order. Nothing hard, just the toast. When the waitress told him he got mad and slammed the bread into the toaster. Keep in mind there is no other order to be cooked. When the toast popped he threw it on a plate and slammed it down in front of me. I say "thank you sir" and he just turns around, grabs himself something to eat, and goes and sits at the low counter to relax. Never seen someone hate their job so much. Perhaps he should give it to someone who would appreciate having one. Update: I'm going to assume he was just having a bad day because I've come back and I've got to admit this guy has to be one of the best waffle house cooks I've seen. The food is typical waffle house. This one is hosted and run by better than average crews. Service is fast and friendly. The best attraction is Steve. If you get a chance to eat hear in the morning or at lunch, you will probably be exposed to Steve. What a hoot, life of the party. Make sure you play the juke box and be prepared for the musical show that Steve will put on. I especially like his renditions of the various C&W songs. Waffle House review, from a west coast fan. The first time I ate at Waffle House was in SC., while visiting a relative by marriage. That was also the first time I had grits and hashbrowns 'smothered, covered, diced and chunked'. They mix their omelet in a milkshake blender, which really whips air into the eggs. The cheese is American, which makes for nicely melted goodness. This location, across from the Mall of GA, and hotel where I stayed, is no different than others that I have visited. Like a chain, the menu doesn't change from one to the next. The difference in each really comes form the personality of the people that work there and how they call out the order to the cook. It's pretty sad when you order something as simple as the All American, and you only get half of the 4 items it's supposed to come with ( excluding toast) You may need to remind your waitress repeatedly to get your entire order. Not her fault entirety because the cook should know what the order comes with. However, he seemed to be more interested in making sure his friends at the counter had what they ordered + the first time, and your waitress needs to make sure her family is taken care of too. It's a business people. Concentrate on your customers, and unlike me...they may come back to your location again. All that being said, the cook can actually cook eggs and bacon correctly. read more
