on my visit to the Waffle House, there was a new cook on board so our food took FOREVER. Okay, we waited patiently. I ordered the strawberry shortcake waffle which was pricier than a plain waffle. When it finally came, it had no strawberries on it, but instead had strawberry syrup poured on it along with crunchy strawberry candies. It was absolutely horrible, but I decided to scrape off the candy and eat what I could given how long it took to be made. But sadly the waffle itself was gooey and awful. They seem to have every breakfast option my secret southern roots desire. Waffles. Biscuits with gravy. Sausage, egg and cheese grit bowls (MY FAVE). Crispy hash browns. I thought I hated hash browns all my life. Well, not anymore. And while it gets busy here and they may not always answer the phone, the waitresses and cashiers are super sweet and friendly that it makes up for it. He pointed at the side table and I texted my sister to let her know I had a table. Once seated, the waitress asked if we would like anything to drink and then gave use a few minutes to look over the menu. When we all knew what we wanted we placed our order and watched in awe as we saw the cooks prepare our food. Everything was freshly made! From the stove to the plate, literally. The food was delicious! I do not like bacon at all but after my nephew offered me a strip and I took a bite from the extra crispy strip I'm a fan. The scramble eggs were light and fluffy, bacon was extra crispy, toast was toasty, ham was juicy and the waffles were PERFECT! Our waitress checked up on us every now and then but not to the point where she was annoying. My breakfast was good, but the bacon, not so much. It had a funny taste to it, probably had been sitting for a while. The potatoes and eggs were good, as was the toast. My husband said his food was good. Of course, we had to split a waffle, which had the words, "Waffle House" in the center - nice touch. The waffle was good. Coffee was hot, and we had more than enough refills. There is a small parking lot there, and it's free. There isn't much room to wait inside the restaurant, away from the door. Bring a sweater, as you will feel the cool Colorado air (fall time) when the door opens. It was fairly quiet in the restaurant, until they turned on the music, which then made it difficult to hear. I would have preferred to not have any music. We enjoyed hearing the employees working behind the counter, calling out orders, using the restaurant "lingo," it was nice. Within 10 minutes of sitting down, there was a wait. Food is served quickly, so that helps. There is usually a wait, so just count on it. Waffle House is well known. Opened the door carrying a baby and an employee leaving just walked out without saying a thing as I held the door for him. Then my wife the baby and I stood at the front waiting to be greeted or seated. A waitress looked up made eye contact and said nothing. After a few minutes without being greeted we just sat ourselves. We sat for about 8 minutes and still weren't acknowledged, so I went and grabbed a high chair and some menus. We sat for a bit longer and a homeless guy walked in and they acknowledged him and he asked if he could use the bathroom. Then two more parties walked in and they acknowledged and sat them both right away. They gave them menus and a little later gave them silverware and started taking their orders. As soon as they did we got up and left. Not one employee said a word or acknowledged us the whole time, even after we got up and left. We came here late at night for a quick bite to eat after an hour drive from Boulder. I can't believe we haven't tried this place sooner!! The ambiance was soooo much fun and Trina, our waitress was funny and overall lively and hilarious with us. She kept on joking and saying clever remarks to us. We loved her!! We were sort of confused with the menu, but the food actually comes out better than the actual photos on the menu. How strange is that?? I stopped here after driving 23 hours straight from Sacramento...Ugh...on my way to Kansas City 8 hours from then. Don't ever do that. I showed up in the wee hours of 8am-ish, when it was sunny, crisp, just rained, and the staff was chipper and listening to R&B music. It was a good vibe, and the cook was feelin' the music because he threw together the best damn Waffle House I've ever had. The eggs were precision-guided missles of awesome. The waffles couldn't have been done better. The meat and the hash were both perfect. I don't know if I had died on the way home, and everything since my death has not been real - but it was like a dream. Best. Waffle. House. Ever. A trucker's paradise, the Waffle House is one of those joints which realizes its not about making good food when your customers will probably be forced to eat here anyway (due to the fact that it is uber-late), but instead it is about making the cheapest food possible that is still edible. Greasy, over-priced, and coffee weak or way too strong. If you try to get something else than the standard eggs and bacon, you better avoid the salad....this was uh..an experience that's for sure.
