There's something about being able to control your breakfast destiny. Sitting next to the kitchen whether on a barstool or booth; for those who've followed me over the years know I detest crispy bacon. HATE IT! If you're bacon squeamish you might wanna hit the back button now and carry on your lives thinking this glorious breakfast meat should be as rigid as a doctor's office tongue depressor. So, the GF and I are on a road trip to pick up little Rooster (now 14) in New Mexico. Second day we hit this Waffle House for driving fuel. We were the only diners; sat next to the kitchen. PLEASE READ!!! we had a waitress && everything was fine when we got there, she was taking my husbands order and explained they don't give refills with some attitude to it, we brushed it off no problem until she took my order and explained i was being to quite, again, no problem, i spoke up and when she had asked me about hash browns i had KINDLY explained i didn't want that added. she went on to tell me i don't need to be smart about it. ??? it made my husband upset and him and his friend started asking her what her problem was, she ended up getting very upset with us and threw her pen and walked away saying fuck you bitch. this was honestly the worst customer experience i've ever received. some body needs to take her off the payroll because i do enjoy that waffle house it does have some pretty great servers and the one cook who was trying to calm the waitress down was pretty great too. we're going today contact the manager and hopefully see through to her being removed. thank you for reading! ***EDIT*** jennifer was actually the manager we did end up going back to talk to her when she was in she was AWESOME about the entire situation. she very much made the experience better despite that lady's awful behavior the night before. she was the sweetest! i unfortunately couldn't get the waitresses name but they are taking this to the unit manager! read more

Was looking forward to trying this place. Sad to say, but I've never tried a Waffle House. Small portions of hash browns. Thin and crispy waffles. Didn't feel like the place was very clean or organized. Lots of homeless out front. We were watching the scrape the sides of the waffle iron as waffles cooked just to see them leave all the leftovers piled up. Interesting group of workers. The older lady was the boss and called the shots. She was great and very kind. She said she's worked there for 30 something years. My wife and I went for breakfast which was very tasty. The staff were very friendly and responsive. The prices for the food are very affordable for what you get. I went in with a small group of friends to enjoy one of our favorite late night meals. But our server, Darlene, was not happy to see us. She was so devastated that 8 of us came all at once, she mad a very big visual face that she seem so bothered "you are just going to wait a minute". But the restaurant was empty, so I have no idea how it was such a big problem. She was basically taking orders one by one and delivering drinks a very slow rate. She mentioned something about the cook not being able to take so many orders at once but he seemed fine. My girlfriend and I waited almost 20 minutes before we decided to leave because we had no drinks or any type of service. We were greeted once with a bad attitude and she never acknowledged us again. My friends told me that she continued to have a bad attitude and got orders wrong. I will go back to Waffle House because the food is good and I love being there with my friends and family. But I will walk right out if I see Darlene again because that was unacceptable behavior. Also all 8 of us currently work in the food service industry, so with an empty restaurant, I have no idea how we were treated like that. read more

Went into this Waffle House to be met by 2 people smoking. WTF!!!??? The smell was like an old bar. Full of smoke. I am not sure that you still can smoke inside but it was bad. This place is not one of the better waffle houses. The food was just ok. Not sure because the smoke was so prevalent that you could not smell the food. I felt like the employees were more concerned about taking a break and not taking care of the customers. I have to say this Waffle House is bad. 3.5 stars Long story short: 2nd time at a Waffle House, just like the other one I've been to, and the same as all the other ones, yet it always hits the spot. Long story long: On our way out to Kansas City, my friend and I made it to Amarillo around 10:30 or 11 at night. We quickly checked into our hotel and we were starting to get a little hungry. We had remembered seeing this Waffle House off of the freeway a couple exits prior to our hotel, so considering what time it was, this was automatically our first option. The layout is pretty much the exact same as the one we went to in Overland Park. Are they all like this? Walking in, without saying a word, the waitress said, "Smoking or non-smoking? This ain't California" to which we looked at each other. She must have seen my licence plate when we pulled in. We sat down and ordered waters. Being the time that it was, I kind of wanted breakfast, but I kind of wanted a sandwich. I saw the cheesesteak melt sandwich, and was originally going to get 2 eggs on the side, but then I got the crazy idea to ask if they can put the eggs in the sandwich. When we ordered, I was almost hesitant to ask about putting eggs in my sandwich, but she said it could be done no problem. *fist pump* A few minutes later our food arrived and the sandwich looked glorious in its added egg greatness. Served with a side of hash browns, it was like I was getting breakfast and lunch in one. I mean, how awesometownnessville is that? Maybe because I was hungry, or maybe because it was late and I didn't really care what I ate, but the sandwich really hit the spot. I told my friend maybe I was subconsciously craving eggs. Whatever it was, I polished off the sandwich and hashbrowns without a problem. My friend had ordered waffles with chocolate chips, and he seemed to enjoy them. In the midst of our conversation, I got the wacky idea of if they'd be able to put the sandwich inside of a waffle. The combo of salty and sweet, how can you not love that? When the waitress came to clear our plates, I asked her about the waffle sandwich idea. "Did you want a waffle?" she asked. "No, no, no... The last two times we have been here, we've had the same waitress. Her name is Stephanie. If you haven't had the pleasure of having her, you're missing out. She is the reason we go back. Waffle House is all the same to me, but when you have a waitress like Stephanie, it makes it that much more enjoyable. When my 10 year old remembers a waitress, that alone says a lot. I ordered the "all star special" comes with 2 eggs toast, 3 slices of bacon or sausage your choice of waffle or biscuit and gravy, grits or hashbrowns. I got eggs over medium done to order, wheat toast, bacon, waffle and hash browns. The hashbrowns I opted to. Get them "scattered, smothered and covered" with grilled onions and cheese (awesome!) I normally love coming to waffle house when I come to amarillo but I was very disappointed this time around. The food was ok but this review has more to do with cleanliness. The building was smoking and non smoking. There was trash all over the parking lot (beer boxes and cigarets), the windows where filthy, there was food and trash all over the floor. The tables could of used a much better cleaning. There was graffiti in the bathroom and trash on the floot. Our waitress was way too sarcastic. What bothers me the most was our waitress was smoking in the dining area during her shift and only did a quick rinse of her hands! I have nothing against people who smoke, but as someone who works in the food industry this is very unappealing and you are cross contaminating. I will not be coming back for some time. read more
