Tofu Veggie Rice bowl! Be sure to ask for extra teriyaki sauce.
    Yvonne H.

It has been some time since I've had the chance to stop by since we moved out of state. Tonight, on my way to work, I stopped in. It has changed a bit inside. The employee who helped me was pleasant. I didn't realize the menu changed a bit. Prices, of course I expected. I ordered the Tofu Veggie Rice bowl and added avocado. Small drink.Yum! The wait wasn't bad ,pretty fast. I was shocked that small drinks are kids' size and I had to ask for extra teriyaki sauce. It used to be fill a small cup, like you do ketchup in some places. Now it's packaged. My bag only had one, so I'm glad I asked for two more. I do like my food saucy. When I got to work, it looks tasty. The portion is smaller than I remember, so next time, I'm ordering extra veggies and a tad more rice. I don't mind extra charges. I didn't put hot sauce because I'm still having heartburn issues. Overall, tasty! I'll be back for sure.

    Steak, chicken and veggie bowl

I am newly obsessed with this place!! I discovered it on DoorDash the other day. I ordered the steak, chicken and veggie bowl with Waba Sauce and green onions. It is delicious! Everything is cooked perfectly and has great flavor. The sauce is a little sweet but not overbearing. I have ordered this several times this week and it's been consistent every time. Food always arrives warm!

I was craving Waba grill because I don't have one close to my house so I stopped by on a Friday. I walked in and ordered a Chicken Bowl with Avocado (Avocado is like $1.90 more) and the flavor was good and the chicken was freshly cooked! It appeared there were only two employees working, one was a lady cooking in the back and a younger guy at register. There wasn't tons of people barging in the door, but they seemed busy (maybe online orders or prepping for the Dinner rush). When the guy wasn't at the register he was helping prep food in the back, but I felt like they needed 1 more employee to help on the dining room. So many of the tables had food on them and dust- they needed to be wiped down. The floor needed to be swept and the utensil station was out of forks. Food was good! I just felt like the condition of the restaurant needed more attention.

The food is definitely better than panda in taste and freshness but tiny portion!

If you're looking for a small portion and you want to pay too much for it and this is the place to taste leaves you wanting more got the steak and vegetable the steak was tender the vegetables were minuscule tiny way too little for an extra charge of a dollar thus Two pieces of broccoli and three slices of carrot for a dollar more and without the up charge there is no vegetables in it wow! $13 for 6 shrimp. That's a rip off

Value is not found here. I paid $13 for a bowl with 6 shrimp in it. I don't plan on coming back anytime soon.

I was hesitant to order because of the bad reviews but I went ahead to try them. I ordered thru Doordash- steak bowl, Wabimbap & dumplings. They were actually good. The portions were also good enough for the price. The meat and rice portion were perfect which contradicts the bad reviews on Yelp. I did have a missing order- the avocado side. But other than that, I enjoyed the food and I would order from them again.

I couldn't tell you the timeframe of when the current ownership took it over from the previous owner when I first started frequenting Eest. The change was immediately felt. The level of customer care and taste of food changed. Not for the worst, but different. My last visit this month for an order of shrimp fried rice was my final straw and I will find somewhere else to find some food. It has been a very slow spiral downward with the quality of food. I am talking years where the consistency was slipping. Then last month it was as if they forgot what they were doing. What was served to me was edible, but nowhere near what I have been given in the past. I hope it was a bad day for the kitchen for the establishment's sake! Call in takeout orders have been a speed bump. You call in and you're quoted a time of when your order will be ready. You pay for your order when you get there. Then the clock starts. It totally defeats the purpose of the original quoted timeframe.

From an Asian food perspective, I'd give it a 2/5 -- otherwise maybe closer to a 3/5 overall. Service was average, and the overall atmosphere felt more Hispanic-inspired than Japanese fusion. The mango margarita was actually great though -- definitely my favorite part of the experience. As for the food, nothing really stood out. The edamame was overly cooked and mushy. The chicken and shrimp fried rice was disappointing because the chicken tasted hard and chewy, almost feels like leftover chicken reheated. The calamari was okay, very bland, nothing special. The bathroom could also use some work, especially if the restaurant is aiming for a slightly more upscale environment. Overall, if you're coming for the fusion vibe and drinks, you may enjoy it. Although, I'd still probably go to another fusion restaurant with better quality food and better options. I personally wouldn't return, especially considering the price and food quality.

But that was only until their front counter host, Mariano, hooked me up. I told him my dilemma and he was super helpful, upbeat, knowledgeable, and kind. I had the teriyaki bowl but added green dragon sauce, spicy teriyaki sauce, green onion, a scrambled egg, chili flakes, and avocado. HOLY Flavor Explosion, Batman! Wow. It was out of this world. I would never have ordered it like this. It was thanks to Mariano. I worked in restaurants for many years, and Employees like him are more valuable than gold. I can't imagine they're paying him well, yet he was enthusiastic and genuine and truly had passion for the food and helping his customers. Mariano single-handedly converted me from not wanting to eat at Tokyo Joe's, to a huge fan of the food- all in a single visit. This guy should be made GM at the very least. Yeah it's a chain, but it's run like a mom-and- pop establishment. It's "healthy" food in that there are no French fries or greasy meals. It's rice-based and is essentially proteins and a TON of mix-ins and sauces. It's well done. All in all, excellent dish, even better customer service. This is how an eatery should operate. Kudos. You could probably request that they hold off on the red pepper flakes, or.use a smaller amount. Tasty sauce, veggies, noodles, and 3 kinds of protein. Very filling. I opted for a water cup today, though I normally always enjoy their iced teas. I so appreciate the high level of service I always receive at Tokyo Joe's locations.
