I have changed optometry offices over the last several years because I have not been satisfied with…read moreany of them. That all changed today. A few weeks ago, I called to schedule an appointment. I was told I should complete the patient form online and bring it to my appointment. This morning, on the day of my appointment, I received a text message an hour before my appointment instructing me to wait in my car when I arrived and to call the office. Erika answered my call and said I could come in and to knock when I was at the office. She brought me back to do the initial intake and and the pre-exam tests. I have major anxiety when it comes to the air puff test for glaucoma. She was patient as I had a hard time keeping my eyes open as I always blink like crazy. I asked if it was ok if I lifted my lids to keep them open. That seemed to work. At one point, I actually let out a faint scream because I was startled. Once we were done with the pre-exam she brought me to a room to wait for Dr. Vicky Wong. Dr. Wong was very thorough in explaining what she was doing during the exam, the test results, and with her recommendation since I mentioned that my eyes have been irritated and dry. She suggested that I look away from my monitor during the workday every 30 minutes and to blink. She also gave me a prescription for Xiidra eye drops to use for six months which should help to produce real tears. I was offered a sample and discount card. Note: Allied Pharmacy is conveniently located on the same floor of the building. I had to schedule another appointment to come back to have my pupils dilated to finish the eye exam as I wouldn't be able to see very well for two hours afterwards and I had to go into the office today. When we were done, Kim Barnhouse, the Office Manager, assisted with the payment and scheduling my next appointment. When I got home, I noticed that my state of residency on my receipt and prescription reflected MA and not MD, so I immediately called the office and Kim corrected them both, had the prescription encrypted, and emailed both files to me. If I had any issues with receiving them, she offered to fax or mail them. Sharon Pollack assisted with adjusting a pair of sunglasses I have as the frame had gotten loose. She suggested if I leave them in the car that I shouldn't because they can get warped. She said I could come back any time to have them tightened. I can't say enough good things about the staff in the office. They are an all-star team and the epitome of customer service. I have never experienced this level of service before from ALL the office staff. Everyone is professional, personable, and helpful. I am certainly going to recommend them to anyone who asks. This will be my long-term optometry office from this point forward.

My daughter had an appt to have her prescription evaluated as she could not see clearly from her new glasses. Karen was annoyed and confused with her appt. Isn't part of a medical receptionist job to be cognizant of patients' visits - given she's the one who books the appointments? When Karen asked my daughter if it was an eye exam, she replied with I don't know, as she recently had a thorough eye exam. Why not ask her politely what my daughter requires / visit goal. Instead, Karen gives her an attitude, scoffs.. and while on a personal call, she belittles her, right in front of her! This type of behavior is not only unprofessional but disrespectful.

I spent five years unable to really see. Have not read a book since then…read more I went to the high-priced ophthalmologist and got yearly eye exams. My eyesight was not changing. So why could I not see? Going into Pioneer Optical the owner, an incredibly warm and kind man, immediately told me my problem. I had bad eyeglasses improperly made at one of those discount - buy one/get two - stores that made me bad lenses. Totally made to be unusable. I went back to the store and when confronted, the young man told me, yep these are badly made and tried to see me another pair. Burned once, twice shy. My eye exam from Dr. Tsao was literally the best I have ever had. And the most helpful. I have been wearing my glasses from Pioneer now for about a month and the difference is night and day. I am not longer exhausted from eye strain. I can read. I do not need to use computer readers (what a pain changing your glasses every time you stood up) . And I can read a magazine or a book against. The frames are wonderful. Unique. People tell me they are very rich, i.e., expensive-looking. And the cost was more. But as my son told me, mom, if you needed a prosthetic for your leg, would you go to a discount store? Like everything else, the cost of glasses has risen. But your sight is important. Pioneer Optical with their kindness from such a wonderful family took the time to make sure not only were the glasses correct but that I was comfortable with my decision. Highly recommend.
