Dr Kepner is awesome, welcoming, very thorough. It's my second visit with him and I will go back every year even though the customer service when it comes to purchasing glasses is HORRIBLE. I tried to pick glasses right after my eye exam but I didn't find anything (didn't get any help from the many salespersons present at that time). I went back today, hoping to see new frames and get help picking the right pair. Crickets. It's like the customer is transparent. At some point, one guy came and picked a random frame on the shelf and told me " here you go ". Needless to say, the frame didnt work at all for me. I decided to leave and said " bye then " the same guy answered " you got it " and that was it. Worse customer service I have ever experienced. I'm *really* glad I found this place (while searching for anyone who took Aetna Vision insurance). I don't think I've ever visited an office with a friendlier or more helpful staff and optometrist. They really project competence and honesty; I knew I was getting a through and genuine run-down of my issues and options. (I thought my lenses were great, but Dr Keppner showed how my vision could be improved and I'm already surprised I didn't realize the problem.) I haven't done much comparison shopping, but I'm pretty sure my costs for contact lenses + replacement lenses for eyeglasses were lower than I've paid elsewhere. Dr. Kepner is very nice but the man who makes the glasses is beyond incompetent. He ruined my glasses 3 times. First he put the wrong prescription in the wrong lenses, switching the left and right. No apologies given. Since he damaged the small pieces that hold the lenses in the frames when he made this paid, I had to buy new frames, which weren't cheap. Then he put one of the lenses on the new frames lopsided. When I asked to have them adjusted, they scratched the lenses which they blamed on me. They agreed to remake the lenses again for free but this time he put the lenses on too far from the nose bridge so the lenses push the sides of the frames out so they bow out causing them to sit in the middle of my ear which pinches my ear and causes a lot of pain. They can't be adjusted inward because the lenses were set to far out. These expensive glasses are now a giant waste of money. I've been wearing glasses for a long time and have had many pairs, never have I experienced such incompetence before and I deeply regret my decision to go there. I also ordered contacts from them and was initially told there's a rebate but then later told there is none, even though 1800 contacts does offer one. The Dr. may be nice and competent but what good is that when you can't get your glasses made there properly? If you just want to get your eyes checked, fine, but if you plan on getting glasses or contacts, save your time, money and frustration and look elsewhere. read more

As an update I went in today. This isn't about the optometrist but the sales staff. I walk in and tell tell the guy at the counter that I need my glasses tightened back up and want to buy new sunglasses. He quickly said "well we don't sell those kind here and they are old so if I break them I'm not responsible." Mind you I bought the glasses just last year at a Pearle Vision in Maryland, but I have since moved. I asked the gentleman if he was saying he couldn't fix them and he said that he could but if they break he's not liable. Almost sounding as if he intended in breaking them. I have had my glasses tightened for years and no one has given a disclaimer like that and in that manner. I quickly took my glasses and left and went to a different Pearle Vision that didn't mind tightening my glasses and finding a pair of new prescription sunglasses for me to purchase. I have been to Pearle Vision locations in Michigan, Ohio, and Maryland and this has been by far the best experience I have had. I won't lie, at first seeing the building i was a little skeptical because it seems a bit outdated but as soon as I stepped in I was greeted and immediately my appointment started. I saw male Dr. Kepner and he was so thorough and explained things that had never been explained to me. He took his time answered any and all questions and was very professional. If you are looking for an optometrist that takes their job seriously and still has that touch of personality this is the place for you. read more

Dr. Kepner is patient and knowledgeable; I very much appreciate his thorough examination and the questions he asked to ensure he had all the necessary information to address my eye condition. He offered a variety of solutions to the concerns I raised and was very patient in helping me decide the best alternative. The premises are clean and organized and everyone observed the now-routine pandemic protocol. The staff is professional, helpful, and responsive--and with a great sense of humor, too. Additionally, this location features a very good selection of eyewear--economical, practical, fashionable, and trendy. Parking is readily available and free. Unfortunate experience is all I can say. The scenario is, you're examined and prescribed lenses to correct your vision. You then order a frame and select customization features like anit-glare coatings, anti scratch, etc. But when you get the glasses back, how do you know any of the customization you ordered are actually part of the lenses that are delivered to you. When you start wearing the lenses, you have to adjust to the difference the corrections make, so you'll likely dismiss any discomforts that exists, like strange glares, even if you ordered anti-glare lenses. What you don't realize is that you're probably wearing lenses that don't have any of the features you ordered and paid for. The reason for the omission of the features is obvious. If Pearle omits it from the order process, and just orders untreated prescription lenses, the markups for the extra features is 100% profit. The bottom line is, I'm pretty sure I'm wearing a pair of sunglasses that don't have the anti-glare lenses that I ordered from Pearle Vision in Wheaton, that are supposed to have anti-glare lenses. I'll be returning them in frustration, because I don't beleive this was simply a mistake. BEWARE! read more

I had a pretty strange experience. I called up a few places to compare quotes, and to inquire if they participate in my insurance plan. I spoke with Robert over the phone, and decided to drop by in person. This location is in downtown Wheaton, basically across the street from the mall, closer to the Metro station. If you haven't noticed, Wheaton is a fairly diverse city. Right after Robert greeted us, a Latino man entered the store and began looking around. Robert, who had forgotten I had inquired earlier over a phone call, was looking up my information. He sees this Latino man enter the store, and tells me to come around the desk to where he was seated. He hand writes me a note saying the man followed me into the store, and I need to sit tight. I highly doubt I was being followed. I walked over from Subway down the street (needed me that sub, hah), and didn't look extravagant in anyway, had nothing on me that someone else would potentially want from me. I already ordered a pair of glasses from another location, but just wanted to keep a spare pair. This is the only reason I dropped by this store. Robert quoted me pretty high estimates for the lowest quality frames. Lenses that cost me 35 bucks were quoted double as much. Robert was basically negotiating the price with me. The entire experience of being in this store felt very shady. Just before I was stepping out, he even pulled out a picture of his girls. Three daughters. Was that supposed to convince me that he's a family man, and needs the sale? Who knows. I left the store thinking that was all very shady, very petty. Make what you want of it. I won't elaborate on this any further, and let you make your conclusion. read more

This is my new eye doctor and I don't want to leave. I just moved to the area from New York and had to find a new doctor. Dr. Kepner was extremely nice and personable. Throughout the entire exam he explained what he was looking for at every step and my results. He was very informative and kept things interesting. The rest of the staff was very helpful and extremely nice as well. When I got there I was immediately greeted and taken care of the whole time. When I needed time to pick my new frames they game me the space I needed but support when I wanted an opinion. At the end of the visit they actually cut my glasses right then and there. I waited about 10 minutes and they had everything all set for me so I didn't have to come back later in the week to pick them up. Everything in the office was clean and organized. Although it may appear like a hole in the wall and perhaps not even open for business, this place is awesome. My husband and I needed to take our 2 year old to get glasses last fall and we decided to try it out. The store has a great selection of glasses and lots for little guys, which we had trouble with at other stores in the area. Our favorite part of the experience is George. He is professional, helpful, friendly, and goes out of his way to provide great customer service. My son's glasses need lots of adjustments since he's such an active little guy, and "Mr. George" is always great about taking care of us each time - and we've been back a lot! read more

I think these guys are great. Here are my experiences: - When I went there several years ago, I got a pair of glasses that I hate. They let me return them and made me a new pair with new frames. I gues this is company policy, but they were very nice about it. - When I went back this year to replace that older pair, a guy named Rob actually picked out the perfect frames for my very high prescription, and I now have the first pair I've ever had that I wasn't embarrassed to be seen in. No more coke bottles. All three guys I've talked to there have been very nice and accommodating, even when we stayed beyond the closing time. I'll go back there whenever I need glasses. I've never left a yelp review but feel it's necessary now. I was out of town and forgot both my glasses and extra contacts. I started calling around at 6:00 pm looking for a place to buy contacts with an expired prescription (it expired 5 days prior). When I explained my predicament to the woman who answered the phone she talked to the dr who was getting ready to leave and he said he would give me an exam and fit me for contacts. The optometrist took his time with me and explained things to me better than any optometrist has in the past (I've worn corrective lenses for over 30 years). I went in for my first eye exam in a number of years on Saturday March 9th. I was the first customer of the day and was treated with nothing less than exceptional service. Dr. Pacheco was very professional and thorough with my exam. She took her time to make sure my prescription was as accurate as possible. I didn't even realize I needed glasses but she helped me identify all the issues I've been having with my vision. She also advised that I used special lubricant eye drops for my dry eye and explained which are best. Dr. Pacheco was very knowledgeable, professional and made me feel very comfortable for an initial exam. Following my exam I met with my optician Danielle. Danielle was so much fun! She provided honest suggestions in choosing frames, but with so much personality. Her customer service went above and beyond as she got to know me as a person and not just a customer. I'm glad this Pearle Vision location has their own parking lot since street parking nearby in the Wheaton area is sparse and hard to come by. I had my eyes checked by Dr. Kemper who was congenial and pleasant. I definitely received a thorough checkup here. I don't remember my last optometrist checking the front and back of my eyeballs. I also like how this location has a nice selection of glasses including my favorite eyewear brand Tiffany and co. The only reason why I didn't give a five star was that one of the front desk guys was a bit salesy. I can understand the need to not take a long time when serving customers but I felt like the purchasing part was a bit rushed especially because I was still a little unsure about the size of the eye glasses I picked out. To be fair he was helpful in letting me take my time in selecting eyeglasses as were the other two associates working that day who were helpful in answering my questions. Other than the one negative I mentioned I'm glad they accepted my insurance with VSP and carried my preferred contacts brand Acuvue. I'd go here again to get my eyes checked. read more

Over-priced jerks. I only had to call this location to find out they over charge for contact lenses and they are total jerks. I called to see how much they charge for contact lenses- they quoted me $70/box. Every other location in the area I have called so far has not quoted more than $40/box. That is ridiculous--$70 for a box (6 lenses) of contacts. And the guy was a snarky tool about the interaction as well. Won't be going here and if you do, be prepared to get royally bent over on contact lens prices. read more

I have rather specific needs since I do very fine work on small items and I have to wear a space suit so I can't take glasses on and off while doing this work. I had to go back twice to get the exact right prescription that worked for me but the doc was absolutely dedicated to getting me the best glasses possible. Also the guys in the shop portion were very helpful with helping pick out frames and with fitting them to my apparently lopsided head. Love the glasses I ended up with. In the past my new glasses have always taken a little bit of getting used to but these ones I was immediately wowed by when I put them on. read more

I've been going to this Pearle Vision for years, and everyone on the staff greets me like I was family on every visit. They are very pleasant, fair, and offer one hour service in many cases. They honor my insurance for great discounts, and when my prescription changed a few times after cataract surgeries, they replaced the lenses free. And, it was their optometrist who was honest enough to tell me years ago that to improve my vision, I'd need cataract surgeries, and referred my to Br. Baum, the best in his field. read more

Even with $200 paid by insurance, I was charged $600 for two unremarkable frames with mid-level prescription lenses - too much, wouldn't you say?
