Super apathetic service. My boyfriend went in to ask if they could fix his current frames or help him find new ones. He called ahead and the woman said that they could help him, no appointment. The man that was working the store didn't know if they could get new frames and didn't explain why it wasn't possible. He also didn't offer any solutions to finding new frames or getting new glasses, except to maybe try EBay... What a weird experience. The first time we tried to shop here, we walked in and there was no one inside. No workers at all so after about 5 minutes we left. Would recommend a different glasses place, they just don't care here. read more

I have had eye trauma in the past and recently moved to Bethesda and needed a new doctor. Dr Komm was awesome and took his time to really do a detailed exam. He had availability without a long wait and the Colonial website made it easy to book an appointment online. Very happy with Colonial and Dr Komm. I will be coming back regularly. Thanks read more

I accidentally stepped on my new eyeglasses. The wire snapped and the lens popped out. The frame was badly twisted. I took it to Colonial Opticians for repair since they had a good rating. I didn't want to take it to one of those chain eyeglasses stores because I doubted their professional skill. Chase fixed it perfectly without charge!! What a great service. I asked him to adjust another eyeglasses of mine that I also stepped on a while ago. He fixed it also. I am more than happy. read more

Enjoyable experience. Incredible service! Great styles and assistance by the team. 3 pair of glasses over 6 years.

First time to buy glasses for my 8 years old son. Previously, we bought glasses abroad. When my son broke this and asked a staff to fix, he said ＂no worries" and fixed quickly with no charge several times. So we decided to buy glasses here when my son needed to replace glasses. There are various kinds of glasses not only for adults but for children. They took enough time to adjust size and chose flames based on my son's preference. At last, he could pick the best one. They said it would be able to be picked up within 5 days. 5 days after, we could pick it up on time. We really rely on their business. read more

Two and a half stars. Small eyewear boutique with a limited mix nice brand names (Kenneth Cole, Marc Jacobs, Prada, Gucci, Tiffany, Coach, Juicy, etc), so I'd come armed with their online coupon for 20% off frames and lenses. The gentleman who assisted me was friendly in asking how much wear I typically give my glasses, but politely stood aside when it became clear that he and I had differing generational styles. Not a great fit for me since they don't offer many short and wide frames, thanks to plenty of pro-bifocal customers in the area. Overall non-branded trends were a bit outdated. read more

I've owned a pair of Oliver Peoples sunglasses for a few year and over time they have taken a beating. I brought this pair into the store and they have the glasses a fine tuning to make them fit better and it was free! Amazing customer service and very friendly. My latest visit was to tighten up the glasses again when they noticed that the sunglasses has a slight crack in the arm. They offered to solder a new piece on to fix the problem for a cheap price. I don't wear prescription glasses so I cannot comment on that aspect of the store but they know their work and are extremely helpful. read more

I stopped in to Colonial Opticians today without an appointment because I needed new nose pads on two pairs of glasses. I correctly anticipated that, as at most opticians, Colonial would do this for no charge. However, I was impressed by the speed with which they worked and the attention to detail I received as a customer, including an offer to adjust one pair that felt a little weird to me. As I result, I would strongly consider using Colonial the next time I need to purchase a pair of glasses - and so should you! read more

I cannot say enough about Colonial Opticians! Yesterday was my first visit with them - I'm from Boston, and have been going to the same glasses store since I was 3 years old, so you can say I was skeptical of change! I went in for an eye exam with Dr. Suleiman Alibhai, who is a low vision Ophthalmologist (amazing, by the way) that has an office in the back of the store. After my exam with him, I asked Ryan, (whose grandfather opened the store 47 years ago) if he was up for the challenge to help me pick out the perfect frames. We had such a blast trying on frames - and his input was spot on! I ended up with a pair of Kate Spade frames that fit me - and suit me - just perfectly, and at a price that you really can't beat. Their selection is fantastic, and it's true - they have a lot of frames for small petite women like me who are always frustrated by glasses that are too wide, and frames that will fit your budget, whatever it is. Tina and Ryan are excellent people, and you can tell that they're proud of their store and of the Ophthalmologists that work there. I got such a warm, homey feel from the moment I walked in there, and am SO happy to have found an Ophthalmologist and a glasses shop that I actually ENJOY going to! If I could give them 6 stars, I would. Seriously. read more

I just had the best customer service experience at Colonial Opticians! My glasses were long overdue for an adjustment; they were cutting in to the sides of my nose, sitting crooked, etc. I hadn't purchased them at Colonial, but figured that I could pay for adjustment. The man who helped me [and whose name I wish I had gotten] welcomed me warmly, adjusted my frames twice (until they were just right) and put new nose pads on them... and then, when I asked how much I owed, didn't charge me anything. I was so surprised and am very grateful. Will return to Colonial Opticians the next time I need new glasses! read more

We walked in, with a broken nose piece. The optical technician fixed both sides, cleaned my husband's frames, and returned his glasses, VERY improved, and declined to charge us. I know just where we'll buy our next glasses! 5 stars, well earned! read more

The spring snapped on the arm of a pair of fairly expensive frames. We went to more than 10 glasses shops and even a jeweler. Every person took less than 2 seconds to say the frames couldn't be fixed. We happened across Colonial Opticians and had the good fortune of meeting Ryan. He soldered the arm in 10 minutes! It doesn't bend now, but who cares? He also fixed a cheaper pair that was just crooked. All for just 20 bucks, saving us what would have been very costly replacements. Ryan was knowledgeable, friendly, and funny. We will definitely go back when we ultimately do need new glasses. Thank you! read more

Amazing service! Went there for speciality lenses with a prism in one lens and very little magnification (+0.25) as prescribed by conceptual visual developmental optometrist for 7yo. Independently verified accuracy of lenses. Didn't try to sell me damage insurance. Glasses broke at a weld spot. Replaced; no questions asked and no cost. Glasses arms had a graphic of different colors splashed. 7yo freaked out that the arms on the replacement were different colors. They swapped arms for us. Also replaced nose pad; no issues and no charge. Ordered a back up pair. They called over to the manufacturer to find a pair that were most closely colored to the originals and waited on hold while manufacturer walked down to their inventory and pulled a pair by hand after comparing to a picture of current arms. read more

I walked in with a pair of Rudy project sunglasses that were broken (the screws for the nosepiece had become dethreaded). The guy working there fixed them immediately, for free! read more

I used to go to For Eyes because they seemed so cheap, and I always ended up with cheap frames and cheap accessories. But I finally got tired of trying to get their employees to give me some help. So one day a couple years ago I went over to Colonial Opticians - and what a difference! Expert, cheerful assistance, with a great selection of dynamite frames. I have gotten 3 pairs of frames and lenses there, and I have always been satisfied. When I had trouble with progressive lenses, Colonial cut me a new pair of bifocals, at no charge. Sure, you can't get two flimsy pairs of glasses for "one low price," but you will get quality frames, lenses, service, and satisfaction at a reasonable price (usually 20% off MSRP). Now I actually look forward to getting new glasses! read more

I have gotten my last two pairs from here. They are pricey, but they do have a price break for those whose health insurance does not cover eyewear. I have skin allergies and wear trifocals, and they were incredibly helpful in finding frames which fit these parameters. Routine maintenance are afforded on a free, walk-in basis. I went yesterday to replace nose pads, and they immediately replaced them with a better quality of pads. I only just realized that they also sneaked in a tightening of the hinges, in addition to their usual lens-polishing. My glasses have not felt this great since they were new. :) Always helpful, professional, and efficient. I was dithering over my last pair of frames, and I was able to "check-out" a display pair to live with for a bit before buying. The salespeople who have helped me have given their personal opinions when solicited, but professionally do not pressure particular purchases on customers. read more

After getting price gouged at Voorthuis, I decided to bring my Kate Spade frames to Colonial. I'm a tricky prescription (high prism, astigmasm, lots of fun stuff, oh, and I'm young so I want to look cool and not stodgy.) They gave me a fair price on the lenses and did a great job. I went back for my sunglasses, and was thrilled when Ryan helped me find lenses that were tinted specifically for sailing. I'm finally comfortable when looking at bright white sails and deck against sun glare on the water. And the glasses didn't cost a fortune either. I took off one star because they don't have a lot of high-fashion frames except for the sunglasses, which I'd love to see because I'm 32 and like to be trendy. read more
