They know when it is a prescription problem versus a lens problem and will work with you to ensure that you get the right fit and will refer you to get a prescription rechecked with your doctor if needed. They will not stop until your issues are resolved. They also give excellent advise on what frame works best for your face, the type of lens you need, and how you intend to use the glasses. Int the 60 years that I have been buying eye glasses. I have never had better service than at the Westlake Apex Opticle. George and Sally will invert themselves to satisfy your needs, and they have decades of experience. You dont need too know the solution to your optical problem -- they do. "Old eyes." That's what "presbyopia" means, and it also means it's time for an updated eyeglass prescription. Time to go see the good folks at Apex. I'm going to focus on eyeglass lenses, rather than frames, even though Apex offers a nice selection of frames -- because getting anything other than the simplest lens prescription done right is truly customized work, and highly technical. You're spending a lot of money (even at the "cheap" places), and seeing the world through those lenses for hours a day, if not all day, every day. Make sure they're done right. The exceptionally knowledgeable and experienced staff here know what they're doing when it comes to eyeglasses, especially when things get a little complex. I've been a customer of Apex (mostly at this location) for over ten years, ever since I discovered (much to my dismay) that I was ready for "progressive" lenses - also known as bifocals. Gone are the days of bifocals with the horizontal line, like my mother and grandmother had. But for progressive lenses to work well, they need to be expertly ground, and tailored to what you do most. Reading and looking at your cell phone? Meeting with people across a desk, or across the room? Driving? You need someone who can figure out the best proportion of your lenses - and whether the frames you have might need to be a little bigger, to work for you, not just make you look good. And you definitely want something other than the "cookie cutter" approach you get at most optical shops. I've always received the very highest quality of service and expertise in making sure my glasses served me and my "old eyes," and that they look great. As I mentioned, they carry a very nice variety of eyeglass frames, though I've also purchased frames elsewhere and had them just do the lenses for me. They've also custom-cut clip-on shades for my frameless glasses, and steered me away from expensive but fragile clip-ons. With exceptional staff, most of whom have been working for Apex for years, I always know I'm in good hands when it's time to bite the bullet and get my next eyeglass prescription filled. read more

Some say Apex Optical provides highest quality service but is very expensive. I would suggest that Apex provides highest quality service and is not expensive. Let me explain. I will have cataract surgery in 8 months. My opthalmologist gave me a prescription for new eyeglasses and suggested his own optician who is conveniently located right in the opthalmologist's office. That optician quoted me a price of $405 for two lenses. Then I went to Apex. The optician at Apex said it would be foolish to buy new lenses now because as soon as I have my cataract surgery, I would need a new prescription. He said that since my present eyeglasses work well, I should just wait until right after my surgery. Then, he would put in two plain lenses for one month (at no charge) and then my opthalmologist would give me a new prescription which Apex would fill for $418. Apex just saved me hundreds of dollars. So, in my book, their honesty and professionalism makes me trust them.. They just saved me about $400 - so in my book they are not expensive. read more

I have purchased two pairs of glasses here; the staff are very knowledgable, and take the time to make sure that your glasses fit as perfectly as possible. They are pretty expensive, however, and most of the frame selection is "fashion forward", mostly for a younger demographic. If you're looking for hip, up-to-date specs, give them a try! read more

Went in today looking for new Lindberg glasses with a sunglass clip. How not to make a sale: 1) School customer in why what she requests won't work; 2) Fail to offer any alternative; and 3) Condescendingly inform her you've been in the business 16 years (hence #1). This isn't cheap stuff and I wasn't in the market for attitude along with my new glasses. I took my business elsewhere and ended up buying another style of Lindberg frame and a sunglass clip... which is exactly what would have happened at Apex had this fellow simply offered a solution to meet my needs. Apex Optical in Bethesda is one of the best optical stores in the Washington, D.C./Montgomery County area in terms of great customer service. The staff are all knowledgeable professionals and well-trained in explaining what the different options are for materials, lenses and style, and if you want, they will help guide you in choosing which frames you look best in. The store also has top quality eye wear (many European brands) you don't see at the chains. I was very impressed with the entire experience. While the prices may be a bit higher than the chains, the personalized, patient customer service and choices you'll see are definitely worth it! read more
