We spent a good while chatting as she wanted to know my lifestyle. I asked her to bring me some samples of frames that she thought would work for me. She was very attentive and patient as I tried and retried different pairs of glasses. Because she was paying attention during our chat, she remembered everything and found the PERFECT pair of glasses. I actually bought two pairs because I needed glasses for just computer work. I was notified when they were ready and made an appointment to come in and check them out. Again, she spent time with me to perfectly adjust each pair. I couldn't be happier with these glasses. The lenses are of a much higher quality than what you'd get at Lenscrafters, and it's really noticeable in the clarity of the glass. I tend to be a little rough on my glasses, but they have been perfectly fine, and extremely comfortable. The prices are a little bit higher, but with the attention to detail and the overall quality of the glasses is sooo worth it! You get what you paid for. I will gladly return for my next pair!

I spent five years unable to really see. Have not read a book since then…read more I went to the high-priced ophthalmologist and got yearly eye exams. My eyesight was not changing. So why could I not see? Going into Pioneer Optical the owner, an incredibly warm and kind man, immediately told me my problem. I had bad eyeglasses improperly made at one of those discount - buy one/get two - stores that made me bad lenses. Totally made to be unusable. I went back to the store and when confronted, the young man told me, yep these are badly made and tried to see me another pair. Burned once, twice shy. My eye exam from Dr. Tsao was literally the best I have ever had. And the most helpful. I have been wearing my glasses from Pioneer now for about a month and the difference is night and day. I am not longer exhausted from eye strain. I can read. I do not need to use computer readers (what a pain changing your glasses every time you stood up) . And I can read a magazine or a book against. The frames are wonderful. Unique. People tell me they are very rich, i.e., expensive-looking. And the cost was more. But as my son told me, mom, if you needed a prosthetic for your leg, would you go to a discount store? Like everything else, the cost of glasses has risen. But your sight is important. Pioneer Optical with their kindness from such a wonderful family took the time to make sure not only were the glasses correct but that I was comfortable with my decision. Highly recommend. From Dr. Tsao's exam, to the entire experience. Highly recommend. Jacquie-Rockville, MD

Will never go there again or recommend. (Wisc Ave) I had…read moreheard good things about Apex and had just moved to the neighborhood. Had a new Rx to fill. Brought my own frames to get lenses replaced. Had no problem with the prices and ordered the lenses. After spending ~$1200 they (manager?) seemed insulted that I asked for a receipt. He said "we've been here for 40 years!" Seriously? So what? After I insisted he begrudgingly printed one for me. When I picked them up they had not applied the edge-polish I had ordered and paid for. The salesperson took them in back and applied a slight buff, not a polish. I asked her to apply a polish and she went back and did it correctly. The thing is my lenses had an AR coating. Applying a polish to an AR lens can damage the coating - it's supposed to be done before the AR is applied - maybe that was the lab's fault. Nevertheless, I spoke with the salesperson about a different pair of lenses I was interested in, one for strictly reading/computer distance. I told her my working distances and knew just what it was I interested in. She proceeded to insist that that was not what I wanted, finally raising her voice and saying "fine, whatever you want!" Lots of glowing reviews on this site and that's fine for them - not for me. And, as background, I was a licensed Optician for 25 years before I stopped practicing to go to law school. I knew what I was talking about. The Rx/lenses were fine, but the attitude was a total turn-off. I'll never go back even though they're right around the corner from me and I'll never recommend them.

The service I received from Mr. David Richards, the manager and owner, was absolutely first-class. I was especially impressed by the diversity of brands, including minority- and women-owned collections, which made the experience even more special. I even got a custom clip-on sun cover for my glasses and chose progressive lenses that are both functional and stylish. When it comes to eyewear, I should admit that I am one of those very picky customers (and David was so patient with me as I tried on many frames). I'm almost embarrassed to admit it, but I had already looked at two other optical stores before finding exactly what I wanted at EyeWorks. But beyond the look of my frames, they are expertly cut lenses. In the past, I've made the mistake of trying discount shops, including Warby Parker, Costco, and Kaiser Vision. Frankly, they didn't get my lenses cut properly, and my vision was compromised. Both pairs of glasses I got from David are stylish, and I see better than ever.
