This was our 1st time in a Voodoo doughnuts so we were excited to see what they had to offer. We were buying a dozen doughnuts for a service rep. at Fisher Honda who went over and above to resolve our auto concerns. I went to the restroom to wash my hands and my girlfriend went to make the order. I had to get a restroom key from the front counter which had a huge plastic lid attached to the key...both were FILTHY! As I entered the restroom, I cringed, froze and my eyes were like frisbees. The bathroom was absolutely disgusting with who knows what caked on the light switch, the door handle, around the paper towels, the walls etc etc etc By the time I came out, the order was already made, but my girlfriend asked me if I wanted anything for ourselves. I immediately said no. If the restroom is that filty, is that where the staff maintains their own hygiene while they're making the doughnuts? The one girl helping us appeared to be the only person working the store, so was she so busy that the restroom never gets cleaned? She was very kind, tentative and friendly. This was my first time trying voodoo doughnut, and I'll definitely be back after such a great experience. Initially went in with the mission of only getting 1 donut to try, but ended up coming out with 4...whoops! 3 I paid for, and 1 was a freebie since it was my first time in the shop--thank you to the person who gave me one for free, that was very sweet. Haven't tried the banana cream pie one yet, but the apple fritter seemed to be the fan favorite--quite possibly the best apple fritter any of us have had. Voodoo came recommended and did not disappoint. We came on a random weekday and parking was easy. Inside staff was quick to say hello and patient with us as we ordered for the family. Prices seemed fair to me for the big ol' donuts they serve. You can also order coffee or milk. The coffee didn't sound that appetizing but the milk was just fine. I liked the quick service and the huge selection of donuts. I only preferred the Simpson inspired don't but there were several that I wanted to try. The decor is fun and creates a fun ambiance. There is also a little outdoor seating which was nice since we wanted to get the fresh mountain air. I'd come back again for a donut. Voodoo Doughnut never disappoints, and this visit was no exception! I had to try the Pot O'Gold--a masterpiece covered in banana cereal milk frosting, topped with a cascade of rainbow marshmallow cereal shapes, and drizzled with strawberry frosting. It was like biting into a nostalgic childhood dream, but somehow even better. The flavors blended perfectly--sweet, creamy, and just the right amount of crunch from the cereal. He answered all of our questions and pointed out what was new. food: The donuts are very good. I prefer filled ones and so we mostly had filled, except for a very fresh out of the fryer apple fritter. If they are currently making the donuts and you can get a fresh apple fritter, it's worth waiting a few minutes. Their Boston cream filled donut is always fantastic. I love donuts and was happy to find this spot on my recent trip! I absolutely loved the pink decor the minute you step into the shop. They have giant display cases on both sides with all flavors. After contemplating for 10min, we went with the Homer, dirty chai (which was a featured flavor) and an apple fritter. We got our donuts quickly and it was about $4 a donut. The donuts are quite large and easy to split with a friend. The dirty chai was delicious and included this spiced pudding which added sweetness to the donut but not too much! Swung by the brand new Voodoo Donuts in Boulder today! Located right off Arapahoe, it's a bit farther from the main hustle. They have a decent parking lot but for extra fun I biked there. I've been to the Portland and both Denver locations, so it was nice to explore here! It's a bit smaller and has two check stands. They have the typical swag area but not too much decorations. Perhaps more will come! The clerk was a bit aloof and wasn't exactly as cheerful or talkative as I'm used to in Denver. Maybe it's just so new, she hasn't absorbed much. I love getting the Grape Ape, a tasty purple donut with grape flavored frosting. They have a ton of other flavors, other favs are Oreo, maple bacon, and their eclairs. I heard the boba place next door works well together! Each donut is about $3-4, so it's a treat for me. It's fun for Boulder tourists, college kids, and first timers. I find myself going to get that one or two favorite flavors. Other than that, I do hope my next time finds the staff in a better mood! read more

I was hosting a friend for some creative fun and thought Voodoo Doughnuts would be a perfect accompaniment! It definitely was a good choice. After an initial issue with parking, I decided to pull over and order online then parked down the way and walked to get my doughnuts. It was a win. The line was long and I went straight to the mobile orders pick-up spot and due to the number of people it took a bit for anyone to see me there, so I spoke up in between customers ordering and she checked to see if my order was ready. It wasn't but it didn't take long after that for someone to ask what name my order was under and give it to me with a smile and a friendly "have a great day and enjoy the doughnuts." I took my little box home and couldn't wait for my friend before eating half of the sweet cream cannolo. It was delicious and melted in my mouth. My friend arrived and we cut up the remaining doughnuts and I tried a bite (or two) from each making sure to save some for my husband. All of them were delicious. The Chuckles was not a traditional doughnut and you could taste all of the flavors in this topping: chocolate, caramel, and peanuts. What's not to love? The other two were traditional and also fabulous. The chocolate old fashioned was a bit dry but had a great flavor. And of course I ate them with a cup of espresso! I was very excited to try this place out as I had seen the colorful and vibrant donuts and their flavors seemed really exciting as well. However, to be very honest, I feel that they looked a lot better than they tasted. These donuts were still good but I was sort of expecting more punch from the taste. My favorite donut was the Grape Ape which is a vanilla frosted donut with purple sprinkles and grape dust. This was light and the dough was very fluffy. I also got the classic voodoo doll which unfortunately got smushed in the box. I had ordered 4 donuts- Memphis Mafia, Grape Ape, Voodoo Doll, and the Maple Blazer Blunt. The Memphis Mafia was a lot bigger than I had expected. It was almost a bit bigger than the size of an average palm. While the portion was generous, unfortunately the flavors in it all sort of clashed with each other and didn't really make sense. There were a lot of different flavors and textures going on. The Voodoo Doll was cute and had a jelly filling inside. The Maple Blazer Blunt reminded me of a sugar donut. Not for me. Service was fine, inside was fine. The donuts just are huge, the icing is too thick and overly sweet. The filling was minimal compared to the donut size. The sugar/sweet overpowered the flavor. For reference, my fave donut places are Everglazed (Orlando), Jupiter donuts (Florida coast), Good Company Donuts (Northern Va) so it's not like, I don't enjoy a good donut. Usually it's whenever I am in Portland, Oregon but lately while being in Colorado Voodoo Doughnuts has gained several locations and the Boulder location is one of the newer ones. Whenever I can wrap it into a trip to Oregon or Colorado I try to go to a location I haven't been to. The Voodoo Doughnuts here in Boulder has an interesting story as just before opening the building had to change it's Peptol Bismal pink to a more standard grayish color. Apparently the city decided the pink was something they didn't want. If it was the Boulder of the 70's and maybe the 80's the building color may have took off but these days Boulder is more of a yuppie, gentrified place where quirky can get derailed easily. I got my favorite doughnut here, The Ring of Fire. Oh, how I do love the spicy hot and chocolate blending of the flavors for this doughut. I also got an Old Fashioned doughnut that was solid! Restrooms here are coded and you can get the codes from the staff to get access but it's unnecessary complicated. Sounds like you have to hit some buttons at the same time to get access? This sounds like a problem solving game to win a prize. I also got the image and scene from the original Suspiria film in which Suzy Bannion has to turn a blue iris on the wall in order to get access to a secret room... yeah it felt a lot like that! read more

The main word here is CUTE! Everything is cute. The theme is cute, the staff presentation is cute, the donuts themselves are cute, even their names are cute. The large themed boxes are cute. The donuts are quite pricey even compared to other oversized donuts, like Lamar's, in Louisville. Nobody makes normal size donuts besides the supermarkets, whose donuts I do not care for, or the national chain, that does not even bake locally, just fills and decorates basic donuts, shipped to them in boxes, baked regionally across the country. They do not seem fresh at all. So, these are fresh, but the recipe is missing the fluffy, raised yeast dough flavor and texture that I am accustomed to after a lifetime (more than a half century) of fresh, quality, east coast and midwest style donuts. They are exceedingly sweet. I have had 2 flavors, ones traditional in our family. I am still asking myself, is cute good enough to have something right in Boulder? Is cute good enough to pay this much? Is cute good enough to use this much cute packaging even for just two donuts when something smaller and plainer would do? Is cute enough to justify the calories? Is cute enough to save driving to Louisville when it feels like a mandatory "have a donut day?" I really don't know yet for sure, but time will tell. I used to live in Portland and was excited when I learned Voodoo was opening a Boulder location. The donuts can get expensive, but they are MASSIVE with tasty flavors you won't find at garden-variety donut shops (e.g., passion fruit, hibiscus, mango). We went on their second day open and ordered a half dozen. I ordered online and was glad I did because it was wildly crowded! I'm sure that'll die down once the novelty wears off, but I remember the one in Portland always having a line too. So the ambiance was... busy. Online pick up was easy at least! I do wish they had different boxes for bigger orders. Stacking the donuts leaves the bottom layer squashed, and you lose frosting from the bottom donuts because it transfers to whatever is on top of them. Smaller orders are maybe better - the donuts are huge anyway! Plan for parking to be a pain. The lot will be full. There is a gas station next door that will not allow you to park there if they see you walk over to voodoo, even if you buy gas there first. Park down the street and walk a bit instead, or bike it if you can. There is a drive thru, also with a long wait! read more
