Today is the last time that we will be patronizing Shamane's as the quality and the portion size does not warrant the very high prices. We got a sticky bun the size of small dinner roll, no flavor of any kind detectable, less than 1/2 the size of any other portion called a sticky bun, an apple galette, regular size, and a tiny slice of cake. All for $22. If the taste were better on all 3, maybe the sweets would justify the price, but now that the shrinkage is so acute and the taste is so off, we won't be back. It just does not give value for the price point. Sad that so many places that had been former favorites of ours are in the rearview mirror only. read more

This bake shop is definitely worth returning to, but I did have to take off a star for the price. We only got 4 items and it was $33 with tax. You know that beep you hear when tapping your card to pay? Yeah, that was my credit card crying lol. But like I said, totally worth it! The quality of the pastries is so good, not to mention the size of the pastry items make the priciness seem a bit more reasonable. Even after getting our pastries in the afternoon and eating them a few hours later, everything that would've been soggy by that point was still crispy and flaky. I don't know how they do it, but please don't change a thing with your recipes. We got a brownie, croissant, rhubarb (and apple?) galette, and chicken pot pie--haven't tried the chicken pot pie yet, but everything else was delicious. The pastries almost made me feel like I was in Paris again. And the cherry on top was the staff, but more specifically, the person who took our order. She was very patient with us even though the bakery was getting busy and we took a couple of minutes to decide what we wanted. She couldn't have been nicer. I'll definitely be back! We visited Shamane's Bake Shop twice during our 4 days in Boulder. Everything we bought was very good & some pastries were excellent. The hazelnut linzer torte was the stand out. Truly excellent, flakey crust, lovely combination of hazelnut & the right balance of sweetness. The cherry galette was also delicious. The additional of a crumble on top is genius. We ordered sandwiches too on Day 1 - they Shaved Turkey Rueben & they were generous with their fillings. Not your traditional Rueben. Day 2 - I got the Chicken pot pie - delicious pastry crust & comforting filling. For me a bit more salt in the filing would have been a welcome addition but lots of colorful veggies & creamy filling. My husband had the pear & chocolate galette & said it was very good. The almond croissant was good too - so many flaky layers - but I agree with other reviews that say it could use more filling. My daughter got the monkey bread which she loved! She took a bite before we could snap a pic! And my son got the chocolate croissant which was a winner. On both days we got brownies too which were a big hit with the kids. Overall you can't really go wrong here - I wish we lived closer so we could try all the tempting treats! read more

We got a coconut cream pie for Thanksgiving. It was 'ok', but to be honest, I've had much better. The custard had a strange mouth feel. Not quite gritty, but something, almost a floury taste. The crust was kind of soggy and the whole thing had kind of a freezer-burnt taste. I would go back and try something else, but I'm not sure I would buy a whole pie again. It was quite expensive for something I'm not sure we will finish. The people were really nice there. The shop is on the small side, so it doesn't invite one to sit awhile and have some coffee and a pastry. read more

Best bake shop in Boulder by far. Been here several times, but never got pictures and would always eat first because it's so good. They have a small area to eat but I always do takeout. Tried the quiche for the first time and it was amazing! Had both the ham one and the vegetarian. Both were great and for the price they actually give you a lot. The breakfast hand pie was also good, but not my favorite because there are so many good things here. What makes this place so great for all their pastries is the crust. The chicken pot pie is my favorite thing here. Definitely a must have and great for a takeout dinner it's very filling. We also got the torte della Nona. So delicious and not too sweet. We've also Pre ordered cakes for birthdays and the almond with raspberry one is great. So is the carrot cake. Whatever the amount of people they say is good for the size of the cake, I would add a few people to that number because the cakes are super tall and they make the buttercream thick. My uncle said they make the best carrot and that's his favorite and he's had a lot of carrot cake. Highly recommend everything here! read more

Pastries both savory and sweet with some other items around, looked amazing. My friend opted for two cookies since they looked big beautiful and moist, while I got a blueberry croissant type pastry. Wow, it was buttery, flaky and everything that i had hoped for. This place is small and since we did come in later in trendy, many things were sold out. went in person to buy/order cupcakes, and they refused to take the order in person. Instead they directed me to a poorly designed web form on their website, which I submitted. When I went to pick them up two days later on the day of the event, they said their email system had been losing orders and they had no record of it. Their best solution was that they "might be able to make them later that day" at the cost of my driving there a third time. meanwhile, they can't just have a half dozen of each flavor of cupcake in their case ready for sale? They only have three or four flavors. I would recommend a more reliable bakery. read more

I had to deduct a star on my review because today I bought a "Morning Bun" and a Ginger Snap Cookie. The morning bun looked convincing until I tore off a layer of pastry and say what looked like fresh herb butter... Upon tasting I was expecting a symphony of cinnamon and sweet but... NO!!! :'-( It's some type of savory bun... and what I thought was sugar is Parmesan cheese. I'll save it for another time but they really need to get their product labeling together. My carrot wedding cake was definitely the best wedding cake I've tasted in my life! And not to sound too biased, but it was also the prettiest one I've seen! Made on fresh-baked bread with crispy bacon, loaded with turkey, avocado, and ripe tomato. Delicious! I am going back today for another. Healthy, delicious, and soothes my soul. Of course, I chose a brownie for myself which surprised me by its deliciousness! I have had chicken pot pie, rhubarb pie, apple pie, cookies, and danish. I am in awe! Visited Boulder for a quick weekend and was recommended to Shamanes by a close friend. I had to wait until my last day in town (since the bakery is closed on the weekends) to visit and was sadly too hungover to really experience all of the yummy looking baked goods. Bummer!! Instead I got the Monte Cristo which was packed with ham and had too much flavor for my taste, Dijon + Jam + Poppy Seeds + Powdered sugar - I think I would have liked it better on French toast and removed all those extra ingredients, but it wasn't bad, just surprising flavor wise, and was a lot of food, I had to take the other half to go. My friend got the breakfast sandwich which was essentially a classic BLT with an egg on it and was delicious. As I ate my sandwich I caught myself staring into the case of delicious looking baked goods, chicken pot pies, massive quiches and thick brownies wishing I had chosen something else.. so I truly do hope to come back and taste what this place is really made of. The drop coffee was shockingly delicious and the atmosphere alone was worth coming back for. Everyone working was incredibly friendly and everyone visiting was clearly a repeat customer.
