I was on the way to get home from Lyons this afternoon and all of a sudden the idea of getting a dessert from this bakery hit me. I thus wasted no time to get there. This place never seems to disappoint. Once inside, a display of baked and unbaked goods welcomed me as if they were smiling. At this store, you need at least 5 minutes to decide which one/ones you want. I set my eyes on the seasonal bake, Blueberry Thyme square. The Key Lime pie appears to be one of the regulars but I'm not sure I had seen it before. On a beautiful sunny Sunday afternoon, the store wasn't busy at all. I immediately got helped by one of the ladies behind the counter. She was quick about putting both of the goods in two separate containers. In a matter of about 10 minutes (or even less) I was out the doors. The seasonal bake (Blueberry Thyme) wasn't super impressive but was good enough to enjoy. If I put a scoop of ice cream on top of it, it might enhance the whole taste. The Key Lime pie was good. Nice and tangy in the yellow part but the whipped meringue calms the sourness of that comes from the yellow part. And the portion is quite the size for the price ($6). read more

Oh my friggin...don't even read this review, just pay Lucky's a visit and taste the heavenly pastry goodness for yourself. Every time I travel somewhere I always try to visit a local bakery, and Lucky's was the one for Boulder. I've been to bakeries in Vancouver to SF to Austin, and I gotta say Lucky's holds its own against some of the best ones in other cities. I also loved Detour in Denver, but the two bakeries have completely different styles and points of strength. Lucky's does selection, sweet varieties, and creative flavors very well. Boulder has a lovely little bakery company, and it's definitely Lucky's. I came through early on Saturday morning and loved everything about the bakehouse from the myriad of selection, COVID precautions, to the amazing staff I interacted with. I had such a hard time choosing between all their gorgeous buttery goodies from brownies to cookies to croissants and quiches to scones. I ended up getting four items which I loved. My favorite was probably the savory gougere and UHMAZINGly flakey morning bun. Mm! The sweet gal taking care of my order was so kind and smiley in the morning, and I loved that they only allowed two folks at a time in the bakery. Lovely. The tomato havarti bread pudding's portion was quite large-- my roommate and I shared it and both LOVED it. It had a soft, doughy, dense inside with a concoction of herbal flavors (basil, oregano, probably more but am unsure) and a crispy cheesy crust. The savory flavor was lightened by the slightly sour tomatoes. Love! Don't let the questionable blue-gray hue of the blue corn cookie deter you from ordering-- this is one of my favorite cookies I've ever had. With a sprinkling of white sugar on top, it's the perfect combination of salty, sweet, and savory, all along with a great chewy texture. Mudslide cookie is a chocolate lava cake in cookie form-- ooey and fudgy center encased in a flaky crisp outside. Strawberry cupcake was decent, although I was disappointed that the cake itself was not strawberry flavored but vanilla. Strawberry frosting was silky, fresh, and fragrant. The vanilla cake was not moist and in fact quite dry and crumbly. I would buy this frosting by the tub! But I would not buy this cupcake again. Coconut cupcake enticed me through the shop window with its' beautiful meringue swirl. Like the strawberry cupcake, however, was too dry and crumbly for me. I went back to Bakehouse recently, and after visiting quite a few bakeries in the area in search of the perfectly flaky croissant I think I've found my favorite: Lucky's, and not just for the delicious croissants! I like the atmosphere, cosy with an open kitchen (fun to watch!) and if you'd rather be outside or you are with a big group just bring your treats a few feet away, and enjoy at one of the tables right outside of Lucky's Market. The Bakehouse mostly offers sweets with just a few savory options (quiche, ham/cheese croissant) and I had a yummy feta/harissa gougère when I went (I don't know if they change the flavors regularly). The hard part is to try to stay reasonable when ordering because the big selection is very tempting, cookies, donuts, tarts, cupcakes....And even homemade ice cream! You can also custom order cakes for a special occasion. Seems like the only thing they don't do is bread. Their meringue brought be back to my childhood in France, with the center just slightly gooey, not that dry stuff too many places offer (including in Europe), finding the perfect one is not easy, amazing you can get it in Boulder! If only Lucky's opened a satellite in Louisville where I live that would be heaven. In the meantime, I don't mind driving to North Boulder when I know so many treats await! read more

I always enjoyed pastries at Lucky's Bakehouse, but the service is subpar. Today was the second time I got overcharged (the first time they forgot to put my daughter's special birthday cupcake into the box -- we live half an hour away, so discovered it only when we got home and couldn't've easily stopped by again; today I got charged for 2 mini-tarts whereas I only bought 1 -- and those are $8 a piece!). The first time I let it slide (mistakes happen), but today it really got to me -- how difficult can it possibly be to add up five pastries and two dog treats properly when, apart from me, there was just one other customer in the whole place?! I had to waste half an hour of my time calling the store to get a refund. I want to think they didn't deliberately set out to cheat me, in which case it was an instance of incredibly careless service! Visitors beware: check your receipt to make sure you're not overcharged! read more

Our neighbor gave us a cake from Luck's. I can't remember ever having a better cake. So delicious!

The cream puffs are "off" and my kid has urticaria all over his body after eating it...i ate few bites but taste was weird(like sour and rotten), the cream edge was dry & hard, and puffs are wet and not fresh. I ate different pies last week and it was so great, but the cream puffs were not. Cashier did not charge for one cream puff, so just doubting if they knew it was "not fresh" and sold to us, or incidentally happened ...... read more

This is purely based on a piece of lemon almond ricotta cake...amazing. The flavor...amazing. The moistness...amazing. The texture...yes...amazing. Staff was amazingly friendly and helpful. Very nice and clean place. Parking super easy. Would love to visit again when in the area. I thought I reviewed this place, but I guess I didn't! It was last year that I took my husband here for a birthday treated/trip. I had found them online and knowing my husband's sweet tooth for pastries I wanted to take him somewhere unique and with healthy varieties. I am gluten free and wanted to have at least one option, but walking in they had so many options, it felt more like my birthday than my husband's. Ok so I remember loving everything we got but I don't remember specific pastries. Our girls also really liked it. However I know it has been a year since I was there and things could have changed. Here is to hoping it hasn't..... because even though we haven't been in a year it was one of those amazing places we still talk about and recommend quite often. I feel that if a place gets my recommendation for me going once, let alone a year ago, I know I was both impressed and felt the value of the experience was worth well over 5 stars. Lucky's has the best lemon poppy cupcake. Ever. That's pretty much the main thing I remember about this place. The awesome lemon poppy cupcake. The HUGE lemon poppy cupcake. And at only $2.99!? An amazing price for such a cupcake. I didn't even know that such cupcakes even existed! But, oh boy, they do. Of course, Lucky's has more than cupcakes. You can pick a beautiful cupcake (big or small), a mouth-watering slice of cake (or an entire cake), muffins, cookies, cheddar bacon biscuits (say what!?), ice cream, donuts, etc. They don't have bread, which is kind odd, but oh well. Everything looks amazing and they're reasonably priced, considering the fact that they bake everything from sratch and use local, organic ingredients. And yes, you can find vegan and gluten-free options here. I drooled over nearly everything. The bakehouse itself is also quite charming, and everyone seemed happy to be there. I love this place for their pastries! It's a bit overwhelming (in a good way) once you walk in since there's so many options to choose from. The only thing that I've had twice now and didn't think was great, were the cupcakes. I've had the chocolate and vanilla, which are flavorless and today chose the pink velvet cupcake which, taste nothing like a good red velvet. My husband said it had a "corn dog flavor to it". Thanks for the amazing baked goods but, man... those cupcakes are sadly disappointing. read more

Lucky's bake house is my go-to for pastries, cakes, cookies or any other sweet baked good you can imagine ( and some savory as well). They have a huge variety of rotating cupcakes and cookies and always have delicious GF options as well as some Paleo options as well. They also have beautiful cakes for all tastes and occasions. Any time I have a special event or birthday to attend, I stop by and everyone is always super impressed by the incredible quality. I recently came in and bought a variety of cookies for a photoshoot (because their so pretty as well!), and later gave them to some friends- several of them said that they were literally the best cookie they've ever had! Wowza!!! My sister in law ordered a cake from here for my niece's graduation. It was HUGE!!! Four layers and it ALMOST looked too pretty to eat. It was an almond flour cake with cinnimon between the layers and espresso buttercream frosting with chocolate shavings. The cake was a little dry, but I think cake is just a vehicle for delivering frosting into my belly, so who cares?! The frosting delivered!!! Most everything I've tasted here has been yumm, BUT they loose marks for freshness. Cakes and slices have been dry and stale everytime... attactive but stale. They'll even tell you that they sell cakes upto 10 days after baking!!!! The desserts and cupcakes have been hit or miss on this front. Just walking in was a treat. What a gorgeous spot. I travel all over the country and eat out all the time so it was extra special to find a place that both my kids and I loved so much. My daughter wants to be a chef so the owner Jennifer gave her a tour! My kids had the best pumpkin pie ever and I tried the quiche both with a crust to die for. Since we got the red carpet tour I recommend their large assortment of gluten free, paleo, vegan offerings for alternative tastes. I shouldn't even tell you about this gem. The.Best.Pastries in Boulder- no lie. Popular with those in the know. Every time we visit here there are new treats to entice. For example peach galette with intense Palisade peach flavor; thick ricotta cheesecake with lemony crust. Oh and also gelato!
