Random stop for me but a very nice treat. I tried their lavender poppy and it is very creamy and strong in lavender flavor but I don't think the poppy seed flavor comes through. The gooey butter cake wasn't as authentically gooey butter cake flavor but it's great creaminess with caramel folded in. The salt Oreo wasn't very salt. Tasted more like regular cookies and cream. The coffee chip was a great coffee flavor with authentic bitterness from the coffee balanced with the sweetness of the chips. It is quite ice-y and less creamy but I didn't mind it. After a long afternoon of browsing Pearl St. we opted to grab a bite at Busaba (Thai) followed by desert just down the block, here at Gelato Boy. They gladly provide tasting samples. We each opted for the small cone but with two different scoops/flavors. One of the tryouts (Gooey Butter Cake Caramel) persuaded me to choose it and the other flavor was my typical standby profile (Chocolate Hazelnut Crunch)... see pic! As someone who loves gelato but is lactose intolerant, I loved the variety of non-dairy flavors Gelato Boy had! I got the dairy free chocolate and the cookies and cream, both of which were creamy without being too sweet. The chocolate was reminiscent of chocolate sorbetto I had in Italy, decadent and slightly bitter, and most importantly, didn't have a coconut milk base (like most df options in the States do). Of course I could never go wrong with cookies and cream, and this still held true after trying Gelato Boy's take on it. Personally I'd prefer even more cookies in the ice cream, but it was delicious nonetheless. The shop is located on a fun lively street with many restaurants, making it a the perfect post-dinner dessert stop. The staff was also vey friendly and patient, proactively offering large samples while waiting in line. I didn't feel rushed at all, which I usually feel is the case in ice cream shops. Given how full I already was and a bit tired, I wasn't feeling *too* adventures, so I ordered a "tamer" flavor of salty cookies + cream, but my love for cookies + cream is next level, so I thoroughly enjoyed my one scoop of this and it just really hit the spot! We stopped by this ice cream shop while walking around downtown Boulder. They had few vegan options so we had to try. I got a vegan Maple Pecan Biscotti and it was amazing! Main focus is gelato/ice cream, but they do some fancier things involving it. Including waffles/brownie a la mode, milkshakes, affogatos, and gelato lattes. We would that they weren't too sweet, and I definitely appreciate the options for those who don't have as much of a sweet tooth. Gelato Boy is an ice cream franchise with four brick-and-mortar locations: two in Denver and two here on Pearl Street, Boulder. This is specifically the Pearl Street East End location, which has all the outdoor seating. They have the little enclosed patio area where people can sit up along the bar running along the sides, and you'll find it a bit of a tight squeeze on warmer days. Indoors has little if any seating and seemed to be mainly arranged to fit the line coming in. Just down the street, the West End location specifically has all the indoor seating and is made up more like a cafe. Both have the exact same menu. One place to pick up a cone, and one place where you can sit down and eat with friends and children. Pearl Street Mall is four blocks of shops and restaurants that are popular for tourism and barhopping. It's been blocked off for restaurants to have outdoor patio spaces, so you have to use the metered street parking or one of the surrounding public garages. Garage parking is free on Saturdays and Sundays and, depending on the garage, free after 6 PM with a flat rate. If you don't want to pay for parking or if it's that busy (people also park there for work), I've been told that you can also park at the Table Mesa parking garage (which is free) for long periods of time and take the bus here. You'd need to buy a bus pass if you're not a student (who rides for free). Would recommend visiting if you're interested in artisanal ice cream. They market themselves as a healthier kind of ice cream, which really works considering how health-conscious Colorado culture tends to be. Going off what I've seen online, it's why they have a particular focus on having really good dairy-free and vegan options. Even their regular gelatos use local dairy from Colorado's prominent cow and dairy industry. And if you find you like them, they ship pints nationwide. Also, check out their seasonal flavors. At the time I went, the seasonal menu was a tea and coffee series, including a London Fog/earl grey flavor that I liked and a Thai Iced Tea flavor my brother preferred. Don't know if it was to specifically appeal to all the CU students, but it certainly worked for us. Overall, while ice cream isn't the absolutely best treat in the middle of winter, if it's warm enough to hang out and shop along Pearl Street, then it's warm enough to get it. With their hours, it's perfect for when people tend to visit and wander around Pearl Street. Basically, good for after a lot of the classes on the weekdays, after lunch and dinner on the weekends, and just generally very convenient to grab a cone when window-shopping. I'm planning to visit in the summer next time, and I'd like to come back and try getting an ice cream flight. read more

While visiting CO, we came across this cute little gelato shop on Pearl Street. We got their Gelato Flight (Mint Chip, Very Vanilla, Strawberry, Rocky Road, Coffee Chip & Salty Cookies Cream) I'm super indecisive LOL so this was perfect. The scoops sizes were great as well. (1 scoop was already around $5 whereas the flight was only $9.50) I love that they make their gelato daily and have ton of options! (Dairy & Gluten Free as well) Of all the flavors, my fav was definitely the mint chip and the rocky road! The consistency of the gelato was great. Also when we stopped by it was around 7:40 pm or so and there was a line then a line out the door behind us. I didn't realize they closed at 8 pm. So it was super nice they were still accepting customers and were super nice about it. Gelato Boy has two locations, both on Pearl Street, but one is at each end of the street, so whichever way you enter into Pearl Street, you will definitely see it. Their menus are posted both inside and outside, and they have signs on the ground to maintain social distancing. Understandably, no tasting is offered at this time, but I can vouch that their gelato was so good that my friend and I came back for another one the day after! I run to this spot every time I'm in Boulder. I first came across it during a walk down Pearl Street Mall. Their Lavender Poppy flavor is such a staple summer scoop for me! It's so refreshing and light, but still creamy. Getting it with one of their delicious waffle cones takes it from a 10 to a 13492083. You can't go wrong with any of their flavors. A classic Mom favorite is their pistachio flavor (every Mom I've taken here, including my own love it). If you're feeling adventurous, try Buttered Popcorn if it's available. It's much better than you'd think! They also have a nice selection of dairy free options. The decor here is picture friendly! Your gelato Yelp pic will look good at almost angle here (yes both inside the store or even on Pearl Street)! I normally wouldn't note this, but I love the font they use for their menu. The staff is friendly and patient when you ask to try a bunch of different flavors. When you can't decide on one I recommend getting a flight. The caramel flavor came through well, and the batter chunks didn't take away from the creaminess. 8/10 The second flavor stole the show: pineapple blood orange creamsicle.
