Usually love going here but the other day I went and a homeless man was taking drinks out of the fridge in the juice and lemonade section, putting his whole mouth on them and putting them back inside the fridge I told him not to put them back but he didn't listen I told a store employee walking to the back and he said nothing and went about his day. I told the old man that was supposedly security to the store and he told me to go tell the manager. Like sir I don't work for the store you do. I will no longer be shopping here due to the lack of care for safety of their shoppers. Rude cashiers and always a big line because they only have open line. The self checkout sucks. They need to hire more people.

My internship requires me to do grocery shopping so I am here every 1-2 weeks. The parking lot is spacious and has the cart drop off sections conveniently placed. I like the store layout because it's organized and easy to find what you're looking for. The quality of the produce is fresh and they're always putting out more. If I've needed assistance, the employees have been more than happy to help me. Since I do tend to have many groceries, they've asked if I've needed help to my car which was very nice. The only issue is that the lines get long because there aren't enough check-out stands open. read more

Great experience during my visit today thanks to Kian in the meat/seafood department. We had a great conversation about fish and guacamole and he personally took the time to walk me over and show me a guacamole dip spice packet he loved! Tons of problems. Tonight I went in and this arrogant cashier with long braids told me to bag my own groceries. She gave me a mean look when she even saw me coming, which makes me think I should have just gone to another register. She proceeds to cuss me out even after I did what she asked. i have been shopping at this Vons since the 1970's & they always had great customer service...until recently? I have known many of the past managers and cashiers like Cathy, who recently retired, for their entire Vons careers. I have been buying their bags of Signature Select avocados for years without any problems. About a month and a half ago I got a bag and the avocados never ripened properly. When they FINALLY got soft they turned out to be rotten inside...or half rotten & then the rest not ripe? I got 1 good avocado out of the bag. I wrote it off as an aberration & a loss. However, the same thing happened over the next 3 weeks! Not sure what the problem is? Maybe they are being picked too soon which is causing them not to ripen properly? In all of the years that I have been buying them I never had any problems with them? Anyways, I got 4 good avocados out of 28. So about $5.95 of good avocados out of $24 worth! i emailed corporate because I was not going to bring back these rotten avocados every week in my backpack. Corporate APPEARED to be sympathetic BUT told me that any decision regarding a refund or any sort of make-up would be the store manager's decision and that they had contacted this manager. I NEVER Heard from the store manager. Is this how you treat a loyal customer of well over 45 years? Why couldn't corporate do anything? Do they not posses the ability of decision? I have lived in this neighborhood or hood for over 20 year and this store is blocks from home. But man their customer service is horrible. There's never enough cashiers open, And the ones that are are just disinterested in their customers and sometimes downright rude. The lay out of this store is pleasant. A lot of different areas of this market for all your shopping needs. A floral department to the left,then to the right the deli department.Always great to get some sliced lunch meats from the Deli. A large variety of hot baked pastries and cakes. With the Holidays just around the corner it seems like all the stores are getting ready. The Deli and the Bakery department pre-order. This however seems to be more expensive than other stores. such as Food for less and or Walmart Super Store. Not sure if they price match. Still there where some good sales. I had to make a run last minute to grab a coke for my boss. I had limited time and didn't want to be late. The store is very clean and organized. Easy to find what I needed. But the worst part is there was no self checkout. And at this time of the afternoon there was only one line open. So people with one item were stuck behind people with several. Making us all restless. And it make matters worse, the person in front of us had an unmarked item. But what saved the day was the nice employee who decided to open another checkout lane for us. I moved near to this store six months ago; I've visited pretty much once a week ever since. Well, I'm done with this store; I'd rather drive twice as far to a better branch. Worst problem: they never have enough checkouts open at any time of day or night. They've ripped out most of them for a big self-checkout section; this is OK if I want a couple of things, but if I'm buying a lot of stuff it doesn't work. Plus in CA it's illegal to buy alcohol at a self-checkout so if I want a beer I'm out of luck. Hey Vons: If you care about your customers, open some checkouts so we're not waiting in huge lines. The other constant problem is lack of stocks of basic goods. Every time I go, there's something they've run out of; milk, break, soda, whatever. I went to Vons and I regret about going there . I normally shop a lot from Albertsons and Vons too if Albertsons don't have my stuff . So I went there and got 8 bottles of liquor and cashier charge me for 9 . I was so confused with amount because it was not adding up so I thought would ask the person . My bad luck I got Angela and she was so rude and hated all the customers that walks in to the store . I saw her attitude with the customer ahead of me butt I still went to talk to her . Every time I go here, there's always something wrong. This last time they charged me for two bags of cookies, but only gave me one. I bought the fried chicken. It's supposed to be eight pieces for 10 bucks but yet they only gave me seven. Then on top of that the chicken tasted like it was smoked. I think they're using really old grease. Very disgusting. I threw it out. This place has really incompetent people who have no idea how to count. They really do know how to scam you out of money. They want to argue with you. I was actually surprised to see the prices at Vons. I usually don't shop there because it is not as close to my house but I went into this store in Northridge and I doubt I will ever be back. The customer service is awful here. First off, upon walking in the store there was a broken glass of what looked like cheese spread. Don't know how long it was sitting there before I walked in. I went up to someone at the cash register and let them know and two people just looked at me. No thank you or we will go ahead and clean it up, just crickets. Then I began shopping and saw that there are some great deals with the app and digital coupons. So I downloaded the app and tried to scan an item that was on sale 7/12-718. The app couldn't find it. I tried to type it in, still nothing. I proceeded to do it for another item and it worked. So I obviously understood how to do it. I figured I would take a picture of the price tag with promo and show it to the cashier. Got the self checkout and when I rang it up only $0.50 was discounted, it was supposed to be $1.50. So I asked the lady that was there to help the self checkout and she rudely told me that it comes when you say done and pay, do I did that, so No discount. So I tried to let her know and she told me, not suggested but told me that I didn't have the app connected. I said I did bcuz the first time $5 discount was applied and the discount for the other item I purchased. Then she asked if I purchased the item before because it is a one time purchase. I said no I just downloaded the app and it wasn't recognizing the item. She said that I didn't add the item and she repeated that a few times while I was trying to explain to her that was not the situation. I showed her the picture I took of the item and she still did not want to apply the discount. She went to the aisle grabbed a completely different item and said this is the item that is on sale. I told her it was not and she kept trying to say that it was even though the item she got was an oatmilk product with a different flavor than the coupon or price tag that I was showing her which was an almond milk product. Then after this already frustrating interaction, she tried to grab somebody else and told them to get all the information they can on this product, the tag and the discount and bring it to her while I'm just supposed to sit there and wait. At this point, I was so fed up I just wanted to finish paying and get out of there. But I couldn't just finish paying because she had taken the item that I had already rung up. So we had to go over and grab it so I can leave. This whole ordeal was not worth waiting for and I could not believe that I was being treated like this for two dollars. Two measly dollars I was spending 100 and some odd dollars at the store and as a customer to be treated like absolute garbage over two dollars really has me questioning my decision to shop there. This review goes for the bakery department. I ordered a gender reveal cake for myself super last minute and I called around different stores, and Vons was literally the only place that was okay with taking the order of the cake 24hrs in advance. So I went in, ordered the cake with a lady named Janet (sorry if I didn't get your name correct) and she was super sweet and courteous about keeping everything a secret. So I wanted a super basic cake because I knew getting a nice cake might be difficult in crunch time, but WOW they did such an amazing job of creating a $17 cake that literary looked like a easy $40 cake. I was shocked when I came to pick up the cake today. We never even spoke about adding anything more than two colors of frosting on the outside, but they came through with putting two small booties on the top to really make the cake look special. I LOVE LOVE LOVE my gender reveal cake, thank you guys a million for making it so special in such a short notice!! I will make sure to refer people to your bakery in the future. read more

My daughter went here 5 days ago at 10:57 to buy one item. The security guard refused to let her in even though the store was open until 11:00 pm. My husband managed Vons stores for 40 years so I happen to know this is against policy. As a result, she shopped at Ralphs tonight, for the first time in her life. So, depending on how hardcore you stalk me, some of you may know that I am currently stranded in the dreaded Valley. In addition to being stranded in the Valley, I am a die-hard East Bay baby, and this does mean that I have never felt the need to have a car. Hence, I am now stranded in the Valley without a car. HUGE MISTAKE. Thankfully, I live about a block away from Vons, so I don't actually stave that much. And I am so thankful it's this Vons, because this Vons kicks ass. Vons is a branch off of Safeway, and is like the cool younger sibling of the older senior who has a car, but no real friends. Vons carries Safeway Select products and has the same saving system, with cards you have to fill shit out for and special sales that are only advertised if you go through their weekly paper ads they send out. I have way too much time on my hands, so of course I go through these every week and compare them to my empty fridge and decide what I need. So, just to paint a mental picture, let me walk you through my last experience here. I realized I had no food at my apartment when I had to settle for a chocolate bar and a stale cookie with iced water for breakfast and set out on my journey. It takes me 4 minutes to walk here, or approximately one song. I got two jugs of Simply Orange (um, the BEST juice) for five bucks (usually around $4 something each), a huge hunk of meat (reminiscent of my boyfriend- HI OH!) that was originally priced at $26, but after the weekly special and the hidden members-only special with my Vons card, came out to around $9, a jug of pomegranate juice (usually around $5, came out to $3), and hella strawberries, a pound box for $2.50 each. I also got some guilty pleasures (meaning, a shit ton of chocolate, a beauty magazine, and chicken tenders because I'm lazy and can't cook very well) that were fairly priced, but not on sale as much as the above items (although the chocolate was cheaper than usual, I can't recall by how much). My savings (as stated on the bottom of my receipt was 42%. HOLY CRAP. Um, yes please. I am broke as hell and deeply appreciate this. It is bad ass and awesome. Oh, and the staff. How I love you. The deli counter never judges me when I order as many chicken tenders to feed a family of four, even when it's pretty obvious I'm only buying it for myself. The tall men who wander around always help me when I'm too short to reach things on higher shelves (I have short, stubby arms and it's embarrassing), and the check out cashiers are always friendly and excellent at the small talk. Its adorable. Now, just to back this review up, I'd like to contrast this to the Lucky's that I frequented back in the bay (http://www.yelp.com/biz/lucky-el-cerrito-2#query:albertsons). I lived about two blocks from this one, and people were always dicks. I really didn't save that much money as their sales kind of sucked, I never saved more than 20% on my purchases (unless it was the after-halloween candy that I get all fat on). Yes, this one got and deserved its' one star. They are rude as hell, but Safeway was too far for me to trek out to when I was hungry. In contrast to my previous grocery shopping experiences, Vons is the business. Getting the card and actually going through the weekly ads DOES make a big difference, and you can save a LOT of money. My boyfriend was down here and we went on a beer run and got a 24-case of PBR (my other boyfriend) for around $11. Yeah, you had me after cheap beer. Vons, I love you. When I inevitably run screaming far far away from the Valley, you will probably be the only thing I miss. I'll be by tonight to love on you, don't worry. read more

Vons is a subsidiary of Safeway, and here you'll find typical NorCal (Safeway) prices in SoCal. $3/lb for apples? Doh. You're better off getting produce from a smaller store like Super King or Jons. The store is clean and organized, but the tech is a little dated. For instance, there are no self-checkout machines. At least the cashier was friendly. The two employees helping me and my wife find some pie crusts were extremely helpful. The pie crusts were missing from the shelf (all taken for Thanksgiving, doh), but the male employee checked in the back and found some that were still in crates. Horribly long lines. I don't understand why Vons hasn't yet implemented the self-service check out for times like this. Just about every time I go here there are lines. Why? Not enough cashiers. Probably the best time to come is around 10 am or 3 pm on a weekend. I love the convenience of living so close, but it's just too much of a hassle when all I want is beer and there are 5 or 6 people in front of me with a line that is beginning to snake it's way to an aisle -- meanwhile, 5 check stands remain vacant! ugh. Other than that. This is a very clean location with quite a selection. Produce and fruit is quite pricey, but for other grocery needs it's pretty good. read more
