I have never been a huge Von's fan, though there are some things I especially like that they carry. This review though is reflective of this location. My wife does not like this location for whatever reason. I had to stop in to pick up several items and was passing by here. After getting my goods, I was approaching the checkout. I see they only have 1 lane open, and that is the express line (according to my wife, not the first time she has seen this). I have more than 12 items and I ask an employee at the front where they would like me to checkout. They tell me to use the express line. Whatever. There is no one in line and no cashier either. The employee at the front pages someone. This is at 9am too, not like I am in there at 5am. After an eternity, an employee shows up and begins to ring me up. We encounter a problem in one of the items I am buying. It comes up at $6.99 regular price (correct) but it should be $3 off. The sale price is not coming up. So, they send someone with the item to check. Now, there are about 5 people in line behind me, so we all wait. After many minutes, the employee returns and tells me that I was wrong and the item was not on sale. I had taken the time to read the sale tag so I know I was right but I do not want to argue because I am in a hurry. In the interest of time, I tell them to just remove the item from my purchase, and let me pay. Even though the employees do not seem to care, I do not want to hold up the line. The other employee has already left with the disputed item and the clerk (for some reason) needs the item back to scan it and remove it from my purchase. So they start paging the employee to bring it back. One of the customers in line storms out. I would do the same if I was not in a hurry and needed everything else I was buying. I do not know where the guy with the disputed item went, but he slowly sauntered back and it was removed from my purchase. Next time, I will drive to a different Vons or maybe bypass them altogether and hit Ralphs. read more

I was greeted by a lovely counter person, I don't recall her name, but she asked me to give her 10 min as she proceeded to make me a fresh one, it was small but perfect, a complete cake!! On May 9, 2021 I go into this store which I have done for the last 18 years. Upon walking in I saw the Store Manager, Elise (don't know her last name), touched her on the shoulder and said hello. I went to the floral department and as expected, due to Mother's Day, all the flowers were pretty much sold out. I went back to Elise and asked if she could assist in any way. To my astonishment she immediately yelled in an angry tone of voice "don't ever touch me again"! I told her it was only a friendly gesture. She then went on an unbridled anger tirade of yelling "don't touch me again" over & over. I informed her that type of behavior and retort will not be tolerated and a complaint will be filed. She yelled "go ahead". As I then began walking out of the store she kept yelling the same words and stated multiple times "get out of my store"! As I turned around I could see virtually all of the customers looking at me as if I was doing something wrong. It's evident that not only is this individual unprofessional (a gentle word asking not to be touched would have sufficed) this individual is somewhat unstable & troubled. As a business owner myself I would never have this person working for me. I had a discussion with the manager Dave Grushkin who was very cooperative & understanding and said he would have a talk with her. Thankfully he did state she was going to be transferred to another location. In the meanwhile, I won't be going back to this store until after she's gone and I would suggest you do the same. read more

I am giving this 5 star review based on my experience with the lady at the deli department tonight Tuesday the 7th. As I walked up and saw people waiting for the deli I noticed the lady rushing to help customers as fast as she could. She turned to me and apologized for the wait. Keep in mind Iv always waited for ever at all the vons delis. They are always slow. This lady , I believe her name was Annie was understaffed and doing everything she could to keep customers happy even though she clearly had more then one persons job to do. I'm shopping at Vons Newhall on Lyons and minding my own business and hear a father on the same aisle, tell his teenage daughters that he was going to, "knock them out," for goofing around What kind of father says something like this to their daughters? He was angry and his body language did not appear to be joking. I've read too many headlines and familiar with too many battered women's shelters to not take this as a serious threat. I spoke with the on duty manage (a woman), who says that, she spoke with the teenage girls and didn't think there was treat. If there was a negative star, I would use it. This store is always understaffed and some of the associates are rude. On a recent visit the manager at 8:30 am on a Sat. was so rude I walked out. She was arguing with other employees while I was waiting for help. There are times when the store smells awful, due to a sewer line under the building and the restrooms are now locked like we are all crinimals. I will NEVER go back there. read more

The low rating is for the staff, seems pretty interchangeable with Stevenson Ranch's crew (the one near Sand Canyon is the only store with the kind of basic courtesy from cashiers you'd expect at any major supermarket). So I'm just reposting that mainly -- produce section seems OK and there are younger, friendly people who stock the shelves and so on. Like another reviewer observed about SR they seem largely middle-aged to older ladies who are surly, sometimes openly rude and clearly would rather not be working at all or certainly not there! I'm certainly not an ageist, good and poor quality employees come in all ages and genders, but the cashiers here at Stevenson Ranch and the one on Lyons in Newhall are too often cranky and seem to resent your saving money using the store membership card the store itself promotes -- Just for You -- where you download virtual "coupons" and if you combine them with sales you can save a lot. In every other Vons I've been to from Palisades and Malibu to West Hollywood and Westwood, even less prosperous SilverLake, IF the checkers comment at all it's to say "you did good!" or just tell you how much you saved (a story policy I find odd -- how does the person behind you who might be paying full price feel about that? Is it an incentive to become a "member" or just feel resentful?). They can openly embarrass you if there is a pricing error which as others have observed, seems to be pretty frequent. ONE lady in her sixties, when I questioned an error, yelled: "No, that can't be right! You got too many groceries for so little money!" Others challenge me in a tone like I'm enjoying this, holding up the line to be publicly embarrassed. They have been loud, shouting across the store for a manager about a problem order -- complained about having to re-ring items several times a day because of computer error as if that's an excuse. Maybe some don't know how their own incentive program works and think anyone who figures out how to benefit from it has to be publicly shamed not to do it again? I learned from another store that company policy is to give the customer the item for free if they ring it up wrong -- here, they might just bite your head off. I have wondered why this is the main demographic and why they are so surly -- are the stores on the verge of closing with them out of a job? There seem to be corporate mergers and phasing out of stores. Maybe it's harder to find employees in Santa Clarita, a relatively small town which already employs many people in many stores? But Ralphs and other markets don't have the same attitudes even though many of the employees might look similar. They are undermining the company's incentive programs and working themselves out of jobs. I LIKE the Just For You unlike some, it takes a few min's online but you can save a LOT of money -- which many of these ladies seem to resent. The Company Corporate had better take note of Santa Clarita! P.S. There is a can and plastic recycling truck on the lot, I have't used 'em but see the sign, no bottles, attendant said they give actual CRV for upto 50 items then they weigh it, the standard it seems. read more

The nutrients are always fresh and the young girl with dark hair that works there is an absolute joy to be around. She always treats me like she cares and engages in good conversation. The 4 stars are solely based on my checkout experience. The store was not busy. I went to the first checker closest to the aisle where they have boxed rice milk. The lady in front of me, (weekly ad, coupons and other stores' ads in hand) had some price discrepancy concerns. The cashier told her I'll go with you to check, we're not busy. He said absolutely nothing to me, turned the light off and left to do some price comparing with the lady. I must have looked like a 6 year old arriving at the dentist's office after being told he's going to Disneyland because the next over cashier and the bagger looked at me and laughed as I got my items from the counter and went over to them. After ringing my rice milk, the cashier (an I'm-trying-really-hard-to-appear-I'm-not-attracted-by-you-even-though-I-keep-staring-at-your-mid-section-by-acting-macho-by-tossing-stuff-kind-of-college-lad) tossed it to the bagger (a ruggedly metrosexual college age chap) who obviously was a pitcher because he missed and my rice milk ended on the floor. The cashier said he was sorry, I said with a smile, "now are you really?". Then he rung my frosted shredded wheat cereal and did it again. Tossed it to Mr. Abercrombie of the Andes who seems to moisturize with, yes believe it; butter, because he missed again. So I jokingly said to him, "now, you are probably the pitcher and tossie cash boy here must be the catcher. So, they laughed, I laughed, we exchanged formalities, we parted ways in the cool November. I got home, and discovered a nice mashup of rice milk, the cereal box, and my very expensive Life Magazine; the Justice League issue. The moral of the story, Vons is good for an entertaining shopping experience with cashier boys, but you will not enjoy your frosted shredded wheat with rice milk while looking at your Justice League magazine. You'll get home and thanks to the cashier boys you'll have a nice cardboard soup and a very milky Gal Gadot. read more

Review of the bakery First attempt to place an order for a bday cake: I went there last weekend and there was a young lady that couldn't answer any of my questions about the cakes and told me to come back during the week so I can speak with the "baker". I went back during the week... Nobody was there!! Waited about 10 mins, went to deli to tell them I needed to order a cake and waited for another 10 mins. Another lady comes to the bakery area and asked if I was waiting for a while and I told her yes... She gets impatient and goes tell someone too... And we wait.... I go to the deli area again and they say maybe they are out to lunch? At that time I see Maybe The Manager Walk By And I asked him if there was anyone At The bakery area And he rudely tells me I am going there.... He gets there And he ignores me And provides Services to The other lady that came after me!!!! But It is was fine bec as she was placing her order The Manager had no clue What he was doing, he couldn't find The order forms, Didn't know anything about The Barbie cakes that she Wanted.... He didn't know the ba or cake was a cake and thought it was topper.... Good luck lady! So I just turned around and left! She asked a senior staff but the guy said just to apologize to me coz they can't help me. They seem to be improving their customer service based on a lot of complaints from cashiers who can be rude, on the other hand one lady went out of her way to help me find something, left her checkstand with someone else to do it. But a few checkers in the last few months have been rude and just incompetent, like insisting she had to send someone to the aiisle to confirm a price when the item was IN THE CURRENT FLYER AND I SHOWED IT TO HER, still she said that was store policy. Another checker backed her up. She got very hostile about being challenged but I learned she might be one of their more problematic checkers. I had to wait 5 minutes for nothing because the bagger they sent couldn't find the item. Because I told the cashier that the item was NOT where it was supposed to be and it took ME a while to find it -- now they were making me wait AGAIN for nothing. On my way out I found the manager and he agreed it was silly to have done that when the item was right in the current flyer. Sometimes like someone said they comment on how much you saved using the Club Card and Just 4 U as if it can't be right. Also they seem to leave it upto the baggers who they call "courtesy helpers" or something like that to be the nice ones to the customer, as if the well-paid cashiers were then relieved of having to be nice too. Some are though. I haven't had much problem with finding items in stock, but sometimes things especially in the frozen section aren't where they logically should be, because it's a smallish store. I've never seen any old or wilted produce. If you want free bags this is the place to go over Stevenson Ranch Vons, but that one seems newer and cleaner. read more

Friendly staff. Good customer service. Cake Dept always does a delicious job and go above and beyond to make your cake the way you want it. The GM is a friendly and nice lady. My only complaints are the baggers. The baggers really need training on how to properly bag food. And a particular night manager who really needs to be properly trained on how to manage employees without attitude and aggression. You just don't treat people poorly. Overall, I like the store and the people. Everybody makes you feel welcome. Still give it 5 stars. read more

I have always liked this Vons (25 + yrs). Friendly, good prices. Not a fan of the Vons Just For You program. Though discounts are good, too much time preparing to shop (like doing homework again) and identifying if I marked off a particular discount (several discount alerts in a single week) causing me to scrutinize the bill too heavily, returning items, and which has definitely lessened the amount of my shopping/spending at Vons. I really enjoy this Vons. I used to shop at the Ralphs down the street but they closed. I was a little skeptical about moving to Vons but I am so glad I did. The store is very, very clean and is always nice and cool inside. Their floral department is absolutely beautiful, their home goods are gorgeous and they blow me away with what they can do with flowers. This store reminds me of how the old fashioned grocery stores used to be. The employees will often use the speaker system to point out great deals on sale this week and always thank you for shopping with them at our "friendly, neighborhood, Newhall Vons." The checkers are always very personable and if the line becomes long they will call 3+ employees to open up. Plus parking is an ease. I was worried about switching to Vons, but if all Vons are like the Newhall store, I will be a customer for a very long time. read more

Come in at your own risk. I was robbed while shopping here. Watch out while shopping. When I informed the manager, all I got back was we don't have cameras except at the checker lanes and pharmacy and liquor section. You might think about adding more cameras for your protection and that of your customers. I will avoid this Vons and report it to the corporate office in hopes they will increase their surveillance or hire a guard. read more

The workers are all very friendly and this isn't there fault. I blame the manager for not scheduling enough help. I bought a cake for my family this afternoon. But when my wife tries eat a piece, she found mold in the cake. I went back to return the cake and a young guy who claimed to be a manager offered me a money back for the cake which was fine. But thing was one of my kids (9yr old) already ate his piece of cake and I was worried something might happen to him later. I asked him in a writing that the Vons will take care of the such incident. After a few phone call, he wanted me file a incident report which includes my social, address, phone no, and email address. After filling the report, again, I asked him to give me some sort of prove the Vons will be responsible for the anything that might happen to my kid for the eating mold cake, but he said other than a copy of an incident report, he cannot give any. I asked for his business card and he told me he doesn't have that either. WTF. Even a small retail shop manager has his business card. The guy just doesn't have an interest in a customer care. He took all my info and he doesn't want to give any of his. Very bad business practice if you ask me. read more

I don't usually like to write reviews unless they are positive, however, this store continues to disappoint. It is the closest store to my partner and i's house. We prefer the Von's or the Ralph's in Stevenson Ranch, but sometimes it's just easier to go to your closest store. I have been working in retail and customer service for a few years now so I truly understand what it's like to sometimes be having a bad day while at work or just not into being excessively friendly, however, at this store it seems they are always having a bad day. anyone working here always seems grumpy or annoyed that you're there. They often overlook customers or don't address them. The other night my partner said a cashier was on her phone the whole time and didn't say a single thing to any of the people she was ringing up. Today, they lazily bagged some of our items but not all of them and then just left them for us to finish, which is fine, but they were also rushing us out which caused confusion and we were afraid we'd forgotten things. It would seem that there isn't enough employees but then one of them was standing watching our cashier joking back and forth. It was very odd. I think everyone who works here must be super close with each other. It also always smells like the seafood section throughout the store. Hope that maybe these suggestions could help improve the store as a whole? It does get an extra star though for being open late. read more

Here we go again... When you work from location to location and your office happens to be an appointed company car, you find that you will enjoy a lunch break or two at locations that not only are new to you but sometimes may be the only choice that makes some for your situation. In this case, I had a meeting with a customer today in the Valencia/Newhall area. As I passed Magic Mountain on the 5 freeway and did a little reminiscing of my younger days, I found myself starting to think about lunch. I pulled off the road at Lyons Ave and passed many fast food and junk holes that would only make me sorry later. I opted for the Vons Supermarket located at 24160 Lyons Ave in Newhall, CA. I figured that would be a safe enough place to find something somewhat decent enough for a quick lunch under a shade tree while checking the fish reports from my smart phone. I thought maybe about getting a sandwich from their "service deli" sandwich bar or step up the calories for a greasy bag of chicken strips that can cloud up paper bag like a stained glass window to weight gain with the best of them. Then I noticed the salads and sides that are neatly displayed behind the refrigerated glass cases all lined up like Las Vegas buffet. Well? Where's the f%$#&ing help? Its 1230 in the afternoon, lunchtime. You've got 5 to 6 other customers ranging from little old ladies patiently waiting for a toddler sized scoop of ambrosia salad to businessmen in ties and name tags that have had enough time to change their minds on their orders back and forth three times by now and everything else in between. Meanwhile you have some poor middle-aged female who most certainly has not been burdened by extra brains struggling by herself to accommodate the lunch rush. Mind you, the hot case is full with all the fried heart attack shit, the cold case is piled high with plenty of decent looking choices yet there is at least a twenty minute wait time for a normal 1/2 hour to hour lunch break and the geniuses at Vons have one person seriously struggling back there. There is also a half-assed line forming with nervous patrons and still people are walking up to window shop a possible lunch decision and awaiting that magic phrase "who's next?" How many people would be confused about who is actually next would undoubtedly cause more of a ruckus. I stayed quiet for the most part and figured I had wasted enough of my life in this establishment, turned on my heel and walked towards the front door angrily thinking about the ten minutes I had wasted for nothing. I was almost to the door when I noticed two buttoned shirts with name badges that were not the new Albertsons/Vons chosen lime green vomit uniform colors so that a customer can distinguish a manager from a pion and chose to voice my opinion to the first buttoned shirt I saw. A woman (never looked at her name) I believe the asst. store manager, was the first to hear from me that the "service deli" was under-staffed and was "a joke". She did show a sense of urgency and said that she would radio for help over the intercom when I told her no thanks and that I would find lunch somewhere else today. At the same time this happened, an African American man who I believe was the store manager walked right past me with a shit eating grin on his face and was less than helpful/knowledgeable about the on goings in his store. The crazy thing about all of this is that It's actually my fault for assuming that Vons would be a decent option today as this EXACT same scenario and I do mean EXACT same scenario has happened to me before at the Glendale and Pasadena locations! I have been shopping at this location for 15 years and I have no complaints until today. I went to the deli on my lunch hour, I needed 3 sandwiches, I let the employee know I need 3 sandwiches, her reply was "well this is all I have right now" as she points to empty metal bins on her counter. I said "im sorry?" she said "I just through all the other ingredients out, so this is all I have" I was really confused, am I not in a grocery store? I asked "what time did the deli close?" she replied "we aren't closed but this is all I have" very loudly and rudely. Im an understandable person I get it if you have to through out old ingredients but what I don't get and maybe im a moron is aren't we IN a grocery store? Cant you get more ingredients? The fact that the ingredients expired and she through them out is fine, great, I don't want old ingredients but cant you tell the customer nicely? Maybe be kind to your customers who don't really understand how the heck you are out of ingredients when they are on the shelves behind me, and do it NICELY. Im fine with any news as long as its delivered with respect and kindness. To Aracelli in the deli department you didn't need to treat me that way, a little kindness goes a long way, you maybe shouldn't work with customers. read more
