I visited this Vons today in Montebello because i was in the area and hadn't shopped in a Vons in years. As soon as I entered the store I thought I stepped into the North Pole....it was freezing throughout the entire store! How can employees work in this environment, I made my visit short due to freezedown and only give it 2 stars because I found a couple of items I couldn't find at Albertsons or Ralphs. I've been going to this vons for years however recently I've noticed that the majority of the cashiers seem miserable. No customer service skills, NEVER SMILE or greet you. It's to bad. They look so unhappy. The baggers ate great and always cheerful. Maybe they should take note. read more

This is my neighborhood Vons. Since I live only two blocks away, I bought most of my groceries here. The staff are always nice and attentive. If you want to get good deals on stuff, definitely sign up for a Vons card. I'm so happy! Vons's prices got cheaper! When we went in there, the popcorn was cheaper, the sauces, and the dairy. So if anybody has no where to go, try going to Vons. But the one thing I wasn't happy about is that the eggs price didn't change. It's $6.00 for just one box of eggs! You'd think that they would be at least 4 or $3.00. This Von's Deli is the absolute worst!!! 12:30 in the afternoon they are completely out of chicken how does this happen on a Friday afternoon??? Staff in the deli department is completely clueless had no plans to get any more chicken ,and none cooking until we complain! And then want me to wait 30 minutes!! Great customer service which is why I continue to come here. Can work on the pricing of their products. To very high but some groceries items are higher compared to its competition. No matter, I still come here. Don't drop your prices to much. You don't wan to bring in customers that will impact and change the perception of the store. I got to this store at 11:45pm, got all my groceries. All were WIC items. Btw I buy plenty of non WIC items there also. The stock there is terrible. Most of the time they are out of stock. The checker was an African American lady in her 50s. She was very rude. She did not greet me. She started to ring up my groceries and told me that the bread I chose was not for WIC. She sent the bagger to retrieve the bread she believed to be for WIC. Under WIC guidelines in their shopping guide it states it has to state "100% Whole Wheat" and should be a maximum of 16oz and did not specify brand. The bread I chose followed those requirements. She just wanted me to get the store brand. I also got Lucerne lactose free low fat milk. I usually get 1% but their stock was low on everything so I had to mix brands. I got 2 with calcium. She sent the bagger to retrieve the non calcium milk. By that time the store was closed. She said she could not ring me up anymore because the store was closed, even though I got there before hand. She basically forced me to leave without my groceries. I was not belligerent at all, but I insisted to have her name written down on a business card. She refused to give me a pen or paper to write it down because she told me verbally. I have never been treated that way at any retail store much less a grocery store. Very unprofessional, disrespectful, and honestly probably had another engagement after work so she forced me out. She even threatened to call security because I didn't want to leave until she wrote her name on a business card. I have been a customer of Vons for over 25 years and will continue to do so but I had to let everyone know of my experience. I got home without any groceries for my 4 year old. She does not deserve to work there in any capacity much less a manager! I have filed a formal complaint to Vons corporate office written and verbally. The representative said that should not have happened and that it will be dealt with the store manager. I will also follow up with the store manager personally. read more

I was just there purchasing groceries for the week. I find the market accommodating to my taste. I am a disabled customer and I was shocked that the cashier, Josie, did not assist me in packing my groceries until I packed my 3rd bag. I wonder if she also allows senior citizens to pack their own groceries. I would not recommend this market for disabled customers or senior citizens. Maybe the manager has not made his/her staff aware of the American Disability Act. Not everyone looks as if she or he are disabled.... read more

In all honesty I shop here because it's the closest Von's and don't really want to go anywhere else. I shop only at night because during the day it's crazy and they in my opinion are always understaffed. The store for the most part is clean, however replenishment is poor. Their dairy is always empty and if you need help there is never anyone around because they are all up front. Von's is a huge company I know they can afford to pay a few more workers and not be so cheap. read more

The only reason I still come here is because it's less than a 5 minute drive from my house, but sometimes I wonder if the rude Cashiers and long lines are even worth the "saved time". Cashier workers always seem so unhappy and irritated if you have more than a few items (which I normally do given that it is a GROCERY STORE where I choose to do grocery shopping). There is only ever a few lanes open and often I find that the lines reach even into the aisles. Most cashier workers are not very friendly with the exception of very very few. I'm not even sure how to describe this place. I was there at 8:30 on a Sunday night. I was taking a little break from work. I was looking for a snack. After I picked out what I wanted I was blown away by what I saw at check out. There were 2 check stands open and about 15-20 people in each line. The lines looked to be about 30-40 minutes long. LInes this long in a supermarket are insane. This market seriously needs some self checkouts. I only had a few more minutes left in my break. The butcher in the meat dept. lied to our face . We asked if he could slice a ham we were purchasing and he said no its against the health code and cross contamination can occur . So we went home and called the area markets and they all said they would be happy to slice a ham for us and that there is no such health code preventing them from slicing a ham . Bottom line the butcher at vons is lazy and didnt want to do it , i will be switching markets. read more
