I'm tired of being treated like a suspect every time I use self-checkout The older woman who oversees the area stares at my family from start to finish as if she's waiting for us to slip up. More than once she's challenged my scanned items or produce codes even though everything was rung up correctly. I've seen her do the same thing to other customers too. Theft prevention is part of the job, fine, but treating paying customers with suspicion and making them feel uncomfortable is not customer service. Management needs to rein this in before it creates an even worse experience for someone else. I downloaded your app to take advantage of the digital discounts you advertise. However, this is the second time I've tried to apply a discount and the system simply doesn't work. Instead, I am charged the regular price for the product. What's even more frustrating is that there is no assistance provided in-store, and the digital price is not honored. This creates a very poor customer experience and makes the app unreliable. This system needs to be fixed, and customers should be able to trust that advertised discounts will actually be applied at checkout. read more

Went in over the weekend and witnessed a disturbing situation. Edith which I I think is a supervisor or manager was yelling and intimidating a cashier. She gave my wife and I dirty look as she walked away. I don't know what the story is between these two but it was extremely poor customer service for her to address him like in that way in front of customers. Dogs on grocery cart where babies are usually sitting is a dirty health hazard- the dog sitting in baby part of grocery cart- not one employee addressed the owner and asked him to carry dog in his arms - dogs have fleas tape worms pinworms roundworms heart worms rabies etc- and we put our salad and milk and meat products there- does the health dept need to be involved since the employees don't care - not a service dog- a small fluffy cute white dog- did he have parasites? It's been a while since I came here to get groceries. The deals were very good back in the day. Parking is easy in the early morning. On their weekly advertising, I found out that they now have an app like the other big chain grocery stores. And, there were some good deals with their digital coupons. I couldn't decide whether to give them three stars or four stars. But I love this little chart they have that shows you where they slice meat what the thickness is .5, 1, 2, 3, etc.. that was very helpful. The lady that sliced meat was very nice but she was so worried that I wasn't gonna pay. It was kind of funny. I can understand it, but I not that kind of person. The problem was they could not figure out how to split the purchase. She even at one point told me you can lose one credit card. I said no that's not true. Finally someone came over. I stopped by this Superior because it was on the way home and I needed a quick grocery run. I was so uncomfortable at this location. Granted with some back story, I was very pregnant close to my due date, and once I stepped out of my car I was approached by people in the parking lot. One guy asked if I wanted to buy weed and then as I scurried quickly to the entrance another customer had to tell me my chest looked really nice...he said it with other words but I don't think it's appropriate in a Yelp review. I was very uncomfortable and thought maybe the outside of the store is the problem. Inside the store, I felt like for the quality of produce the prices were pretty high and not super fresh. I was looking at the produce section and one of the staff members wanted me to get out of the way to restock part of the shelves. It was a rude encounter, and I guess the customer is in the way of all the employees at this location. Despite more stares from other customers, I quickly got some produce and went to check-out. Today, I decided to try the cooked carnitas burrito from the cooked food department. I was extremely disappointed on the first bite. The meat that they put inside are the old and burned pieces. I used self check out and asked for two bags and but I realized that the tres leche cake I bought started spilling so I asked for another bag for it, this was after my transaction was done. Good to know that there are still good people out there So I got off work, realized that I needed groceries. We are completely out. I went to Superior on Whittier in Montebello. Walked throughout the store, trying to find things that I actually needed. Finally, I get to the register and use my phone to use Apple Pay. She said "your card was declined " I thought well that's weird cause I definitely had the money in my account. So I took my actual debit card out and attempted to pay again. Once again, declined. I was so annoyed cause I knew I had the money. So I tried to use the atm machine in the store. It was out of order ‍ The manager Daniel came over to see what was going on, so we tried to use another register, since they were able to save the transaction. Once again, tried it again and once again, declined tried calling my bank and they were closed. He asked, "do you have zelle" I was like yeah. He was like just zelle me the money, and I'll pay with my card. "This happens to me sometimes too, so I know this can be frustrating" So I sent him the money, he paid with his card and I was on my way out. Thankful for his kindness in such a frustrating situation, especially since the store was closed and I was one of their last customers. Would have been assed out. So I thanked him once again. I'm very disappointed about this store. Last three to four week, their newest method that they don't have item, what is in the weekly ad. Today, I asked an employee about it, she sent me to the "manager" woman. She was laughing and said, "hahahaha, we don't have". When I reminded her about the law, she suddenly change her mood and said, "we ordered on time but we didn't receive". I just mentioned, it happens not first time; at first, I thought it is only a temporary problem. Actually, whenever I go there, it is same problem, Other problems: the store was well organized, therefore I liked it before. Whenever I'm in this part of L.A. I definitely travel to this specific Superior because I like it so much. It's a Hispanic market, but they carry 50% regular non-Hispanic (specific) items, and 50% Hispanic items; 100% win for me. Bakery: I always buy sweets and desserts, they are fresh and delicious. I especially like their Mexican sweet bread and cakes. Tortilla Maker: They make and sell their own fresh tortillas here and I love that! They are so good also. I usually come early in the morning so I can get the "just made" ones that are so fluffy and warm. Produce: Previous reviews have commented that there is 'gnats' amongst the fruit, or that the store isn't well kept. I honestly do not agree, myself, because I have always had pleasant experiences shopping here. I pay close attention to any fruits or vegetables everywhere I buy from, and I have always seen the place clean and tidy and the selection of fruit/vegetables are amazing. But what really keeps me coming here all the way from Silver Lake is that the prices are so affordable. I myself am a vegetarian, so I do not purchase meat from the 'carniceria' that operates here, so I am not qualified to speak about that. However, the fact that there is a meat shop inside is awesome for those who do eat meat. Overall: I really enjoy coming to this store and they have everything I want. I would happily give them a 4/5 starts because they are a great store, clean, and the prices are awesome. The only reason I don't give a 5 is because the staff isn't the friendliest, but to be perfectly honest I've always been an independent person and I don't ask for much from them either way. Tip: If you want to shop bread, cakes, pastries etc. due come early in the morning or the day, because the more there is of a selection and the fresher the bread is. The same can be said of the Tortilleria producer on sight. The selection of vegetables & fruits are also on the shelf for less time if you purchase earlier. So....I used to love this place. Everything is wallet-friendly, fruits and veggies are pretty fresh and inexpensive! :) Everything else is pretty inexpensive as well... But what went wrong? I guess I wasn't hispanic enough for them. Helpful hint : if ever you're there to pick up some groceries... do it FAST and dodge their employees at all costs, if you don't want their employees talking about you in front of your face to other employees in a language they think you don't understand... You know you're in the right place when you walk in and Paula Abdul's "Opposites Attract" is playing over the PA system. And then Bobby Brown, Wham! and Madonna selections keep you grooving past binuelos, Tapatio, horchata mix, Abuelita chocolate, and green tortillas. SHHH. Don't tell that Superior doubles as 80s flashback nights. I love this place. I was at Smart & Final earlier in the day (for work) and the avocados (sexy, sexy as they were) were 2 for $1. Eh. Not TOO bad. But Superior had way sexier avocados (nice and firm) and they were 4 for $1! And it didn't stop with the avocados. Curvy pears, shiny apples, bright oranges, luscious cilantro...okay, maybe I've gone too far. You get the idea. I loved their selection of produce. Good stuff and way cheaper than other grocers. And the best item of all?? Bacon-wrapped hot dogs. Yes!! To make and devour in the comfort of your own home!! With no judgment!! What cracked me up was on the back of the packaging was a picture of a hot dog cart and above the picture it read "Como en la calle!" ("Just like in the street" for those that failed Spanish). I literally laughed the rest of the trip. They have a delicious selection of meats as well. I've never tried their fresh tortillas but they smelled pretty good. Get in and get out. That's my motto when I go to Superior. Usually because I don't want to run into my students. This is my go-to spot when I need specific hispanic condiments. I know that they will always have what I need. You go to Ralph's and look for chile, you have a few selections. When you go to Superior, you have a plethora of chile; fresh, canned, dried, powdered, pre-made salsa, etc. You get it. The other thing I come here for are Platanos Machos. They usually have a large selection here so I get what I want. To keep prices down, they have you bag your own groceries. I sort of like this because I can bag things how I want. I also, always take my own bags with me whenever I shop, but I would definitely take reusable bags here because the bags here are VERY, VERY cheap and seem to always rip from the cart to the car. read more

TO THE MANAGEMENT: I would ask that you review your procedures on transactions such as mine where I bought a minor amount of produce; less than $5. Should I really need to show I.D. for such a purchase? Also, I would encourage you to make sure to have more cashiers available. As we both know, there are times when there are very long lines in your store. They need serious improvement in their produce area, its disgusting to see mold, fuzz and insects. This is where I spend my Thursday evenings. Their sales change over every Wednesday. So I avoid Wednesdays here it's the most crowded day of the week. They have 2day sales every week on wed and Thursday. Yeah parking can be a bitch. But hey, a little walking doesn't hurt anyone. What I cannot stand is the long lines! Ahhhh. Avoid going to the Market the first week of every month, all these freeloaders on EBT are always in there raking up on Beer and chips. I have had people in the parking lot offer to pay with their Ebt card $100 dollars worth of groceries for $50 in cash. Pffft! Whatever. The staff in here are not the nicest people, but I'm not there to talk to them. Overall good savings and great selection of products. read more
