I had a very disappointing experience at the Smart & Final in Montebello. I purchased a container of pre-cut watermelon, and when I opened it, I found bugs inside. It was disgusting and completely unacceptable. I had to throw the entire container away. I expect fresh, safe food when buying pre-cut fruit, especially since it's ready to eat. I have really never in my life seen something like this nor am I one to write negative reviews because I am in the retail industry too and I have the patience of a saint but I had to just speak out on my experience today. The girl working the first register JULIANA girl are you okay??? I have never seen someone bag groceries that slow. Smart N Final always has everything I need plus more. Their staff is always friendly and super helpful if you need assistance with anything. They recently had a Grand Reopening and they moved a lot of items around and added some Self-Checkout lanes. I've always liked self checkout because sometimes I'm only here for a few items and it saves a lot of time. If you need help finding something, the staff is always there to help. The produce is always fresh, items.always in stock, and they even have fresh sushi thats really good! 10/10 grocery store for sure. Usually, I shop in-store, but with it being so close to Christmas, I wanted to avoid the crowds. Understanding that stores are busier than usual, I decided to place an online Pick Up order for convenience. Unfortunately, this experience was the complete opposite of convenient, and I will no longer use Pick Up at this location. I would rather deal with the crowd than go through this online process again. First, the system does not notify you when items are out of stock, nor does it offer substitutions. If an item is unavailable, it is simply left out of the order without any notification. There is no message asking if you would like a replacement, and you aren't informed that the item is out of stock at all. You only realize something is missing once you get home. Even the online receipt does not reflect updates clearly. The only way to notice is when your card is charged a lower amount, which then forces you to go back into the store feeling confused and inconvenienced. My main concern, however, was the pickup process itself. The app indicated that my order was ready. I pulled into the pickup spot, marked that I had arrived, and entered my parking spot number. I waited in my car for 20-25 minutes, and no one came out. I eventually had to walk into the store to let them know I had been waiting. I was told my order was ready, yet no one was on their way to bring it out. There was no apology or acknowledgment, and it seemed like this was a common occurrence. I then asked to speak with the manager, Daniel, whom I explained my concerns with specifically about waiting 20 minutes after being notified that my order was ready. When I mentioned that I had to come inside despite selecting drive-up pickup, he appeared confused and simply responded with "okay," stating it was probably a service issue. The interaction made me feel like I was the inconvenience. I understand that some issues may be outside of his control, especially if the service is handled by a third party however, there should be still "sorry for the inconvenience it's a known issues that we have (or will bring up) with or higher ups) sometimes feeling apologetic and understanding helps when interacting with customers especially if you're in management. The only reason I'm giving it three stars because I do understand that online processes are out of some retail's control so the store it's self read more

Used to be such a great convenient store but since the grand re opening and installing the self check it's been more inefficient. It's a pain in the butt and very time consuming when you have lots of times and no other registers are manned, specially looking up produce. Actually, I walked in to use the Wells Fargo ATM and decided well, let me see if there is anything I need for the house. It was about 10am, the store was clean, cool and already busy. After thinking about what I needed which were clear 24oz or pint cups for to go food or soups.. I walked to the restaurant supply aisle. Sadly, they did not have what I was looking for but they did have a good selection of restaurant supply stuff. I would say if you own a small restaurant business and don't have Restaurant Depot, Costco Business accounts then this place will do. This is my monthly stop for stocking up on my drinks and snacks. They always have some kind of specials on drinks or cheese or whatever else you might need. The manager is a darling and helped me find some snacks and offered to special order stuff for me if I can't find it. The layout changes once in a while though so you have to read the signs on the aisles to navigate but the convenience and prices are great. This Smart & Final is a bit of a hidden gem. On Wednesday's, they have their meats discounted. You can find a really good deal on steaks, chicken or fish by checking out the meat display case on the lower right hand side. It's labeled "Reduced for Quick Sale" since the freshness date is about to expire. (Make sure you mention that at the checkout too!). You can also find great deals on sliced bread and bakery items which have been reduced for quick sale. Again, I suspect their freshness date is approaching expiration which is why they are drastically discounted. Nonetheless, the items are still fresh and edible. Just eat them fast! My favorite items to purchase are the rotisserie chicken under the heat lamps and the HUGE gallon of sugar free Vanilla liquid coffee creamer. CONS: The store closes at 10:00p.m! This was my primary grocery store and I really appreciated this store until today when I was mistreated by two cashier that made my visit terrible. I excused them thinking maybe they had a bad day or were not trained properly. It started with the intercom say "please proceed to cashier #6" as I walked there I saw another customer being helped as I looked over to cashier #5 which was empty. The cashier said rudely to me, " I DIDN'T call you I called him some other cashier called you", pointing to a customer behind me.
