The Caucasian male, younger man running the cash register in aisle 4 was having issues managing payment with the lady in front of me. He made her wait until he scanned other people's food first. It was really uncomfortable watching this happen. A lot of us have been in food service and retail, and we're clocked in until we leave anyways. I hope I'm misinterpreting, but treating people like that is just awful. Everyone has food stamps for different reasons, and there's so many other situation. I was hesitant to do curbside pickup b/c was concerned about quality of produce they would select for me. Have to say that I haven't been disappointed with the two orders I've placed. None of the apples I've received have been bruised. I've done curbside at other markets and this store has had the best item availability so far. If I could give this Von's zero stars, after my customer service experience today, I would. I went there today to rent a Rug Doctor and picked up a few other things. Suffice to say, I will NOT be coming back to this Von's. Ever. Not even if I need one item out of convenience. The cashier did not know what a Rug Doctor was (I had to explain that it's a carpet cleaner and that she probably should know this -- that is when I learned she is new). That's beside the point, though. The young man bagging said he would go check. Then, two more young men came up and said "the keys are gone." While another chimed in that none were left (which isn't true -- there were three left). So now, there are three of them standing there like "uh, what do we do ??" Apparently, someone took the keys home. Of course, I was upset. That was the main reason I came in. When I expressed my upset that the machine was not available because "someone took the keys home", Jason (one of the three baggers standing there) said "Go to Home Depot" ... I said "I'm here, I don't want to go to Home Depot." He snidely said while walking away ....."Not my problem." Really ?????? To which I quickly (and yes, very audibly) said "I want to talk with your supervisor." Jason walked behind the customer service counter (which is the last place he should be) while the other young man went for the supervisor. She came out, her name is Riley. Very pleasant and apologetic. When I said she wasn't the one that needed to be apologizing, I look at square at him and he's smirking and says "look at how upset you are??? " and laughs. Riley quickly said "Jason????!!!" To which I said to Riley, "really, that's how he's allowed to talk to customers?" (it's amazing to me that he had the gall to continue giving attitude) Again, she apologized (to which isn't her place to do so ... it was his) Jason gave me an insincere, condescending "I'm sorry." I felt bad for Riley, the supervisor, who was very apologetic but clearly did not have any 'control' of this employee. I didn't need her apology. I needed him to own to his attitude and for her to take control of the situation (asking him to leave so she could hear me out would have been a good start). Instead, she allowed him to continue to be belligerent. I told him with his attitude, he is lucky to have a job when many people don't have the luxury of being employed. (the kid really didn't know when to stop .... even having his supervisor standing there, his attitude continued) He said "if you want my job, you can have it" (obviously, I wasn't implying that I needed a job by telling him he is fortunate to have one) Long story short, I implored Riley to write him up. She said it would be handled (whatever that means). So far from acceptable behavior or attitude. In my years of customer service and working in restaurants, what he did would have been grounds for firing (at the very least, suspension) I will be writing the store manager and Von's corporate. Having employees like that puts a stain on their organization. I will definitely NOT be back to this store -- despite it being my neighborhood grocery store. I would rather drive 3 miles to Seal Beach/Rossmoor. read more

Well, I initially stopped here for starbucks, end ended up circling back to buy stamps (I almost forgot). The starbucks baristas did a great job with my order...venti iced tiramisu latte with only 2 pumps tiramisu, an extra shot of espresso, soy milk, no whip. I saw that starting tomorrow 1/2 priced frapps...might have to take advantage of that. :) Used my starbucks app to pay and get "stars" (points) with ease. As for the stamp purchase...the manager was walking passed the counter as I walked up. He turned around right away to service the customer (and I appreciated it). Process was quick and easy at the customer service counter. This is my neighborhood grocery store. Just wish they had better pricing in general on groceries, but I do come here for random needs. After finished dinner my friend asked if I wanted to take a walk in Vons. We just had dinner, so not bad to walk it off. She also needed to buy some croissants for her workplace tomorrow. As we walked around, I saw some ice creams are having a good club price, "$3.99 each must buy multiples of 2 $2.88 mix & max", so I picked up two different flavors coffee (Dreyers) and pistachio (Signature Select). However, when we got in line to check out, the girl told me the Dreyers cost $4.99. I told her I already making sure and everything; also had my friend double check too. But she said that she cannot leave her spot to go check and she offered a $1.00 off. In that case, I don't want the items anymore. I don't want to hold up the line. Anyways, I totally forgot I took some pictures of the items I bought or else I would show her. I remembered about those pictures as I walked out to the car. Oh well, even though I didn't get to eat ice creams, my top favorite dessert, I'm still happy because I don't have to consume all those calories. At least for today! ((^_^) read more

This was probably the worst way to treat a customer. Return chicken nuggets that were probably the worst and most dried out I have ever tasted. When I went to the front desk Corey was there acknowledged me but proceed to ignore me. Told him my problem and he acted like he could care less. Very bad selection and very slow check out This store was good 5+ years ago. Then they removed a lot of brands to add a ridiculously sized gift card area. Then a month ago they removed the self check out (which was always busy). Now checking out means lines 10+ deep. I would only stop in for milk and maybe another quick item. Now I won't go back. I asked one employee why they removed the self check out and he said "because no one used them. I told him I always saw them busy, even a line to use the self check sometimes. He admitted he would red 8pm to 4am and they aren't busy then. Well, duh. People stop on the way home from work. Don't bother with this store. I have 3 or 4 grocery stores that are super close to me, the problem is that they all blow big time. I hate Ralph's in general, and the Albertsons by us gets so damn crowded it's like demolition derby with shopping carts. I stumbled upon this gem of a Vons quite by accident. I was taking side streets to my doctor's office, and needed to grab something on the way home so I popped in here. I really thought I was in Los Alamitos or maybe Cypress, but I had no idea this was Garden Grove. (NEVER ask me for directions in the OC!) As soon as you set foot in this Vons, you know right away it's run like a well oiled machine. Everything is meticulous and orderly. I really love how the lights are low and calming. There is nothing worse than having your retinas fried out of your skull by most grocery store fluorescent lighting! And then there is that produce section! It really is a thing of beauty. This store reminds me of The Wild Oats Market, only with less Hansen Sodas and Trail Mix. I really like that this one has a Starbucks and Panda Express in it because there are no decent chinese places where I'm at. I love to play the "How much $$$ can I save with my Vons Card game" when I come here, I can focus and really find the good bargains. I think last time I got like 56% off my total bill! Please check the dates on your products. Marscapone cheese was rancid with mold. Milk was past it's due date and soured the next day. Gourmet crackers were also past due and extremely stale. I actually hit this spot once in awhile to grab the bread I need to feed and assist my local "ducks" at the pond. Those fools have to eat too yo. Prior to the recent remodeling I would have given 5 stars. Unfortunately along with this beautiful remodeling came substantial increases in the price of in store baked products. As an example, fresh donuts are now $10 a dozen. Bagels and rolls have substantial price increases. These price increases far exceed the increase in the local cost of living! Beware of the new "Just for U" promo. First off the people who work at this Vons are great, and there is nothing bad to say about the store itself. There is a Panda Express and Starbucks to please your palate. This is more about Vons the Company and ways they feel they can falsly advertise...to get you to come in. Typically Vons is a little more expensive then Stater Bros, but I wanted to try out their "Just for U" promotion where you go onto the computer and using your Vons Card add various electronic coupons to your card, eliminating the need to carry around paper coupons...seems like a pretty neat concept. After I paid for my grocercy, I had a funny felling that the total was a little too high...so I checked my receipt, and sure enough a couple of items where I had Just for U coupons, they were overcharged. First of I should have probably known it wasn't going to go smooth after 2 chicks in front almost got in a fight over a shopping cart....weird. So "Just for U" I'm probably not going to shop here regularly...... read more

I noticed people in this Von's not wearing masks while in the store. I politely asked the Store Manager to please ask the patrons to put on a mask or leave. He looked at me and said you are welcome to say something and walked away. It is NOT my job to enforce what our governor and mayor have asked us to do. This is a health issue. Why are people so selfish about something so simple? A sign on the door that says No Mask No Entry would also be good. Von's Corporate should mandate the Store Manager make sure we are all safe by enforcing the mandate. read more

My fiance and I were looking for a good set of chairs and a patio table for upcoming BBQs this summer. Little did we expect that Vons had a decent set for sale. We purchased it and Jess, the manager, helped me get it down from the top of the display case. Tyler, an employee, also helped. They were kind enough to help us carry it to our car outside. The table legs were too big so it wouldn't fit in our SUV. Tyler offered his help by taking off the legs using the provided tool. It was simple but time consuming getting off each screw using only one tiny tool. It was very nice of him to offer his time and help. Tyler was very polite and personable young man which made our purchase experience a pleasant one. Grocery markets don't always get the best reviews, but Jeff, and especially Tyler, helped make our day better by being so nice, professional, and going the extra mile for their customers. This place is the last place you want to be at lunch because you will waste your entire lunch-hour standing in line. With all the businesses in the area, you would think that management would realize more checkers are needed for the lunch-rush. They got rid of the self checkout but no one can get out in a timely manner now!!! No one cares how friendly the checkers are after waiting in line for half an hour carrying one or two items. I come to this Vons on a regular basis late night after work, they are open till 2am everyday. I tried going in tonight after my shift like normal (around 1:40 am) to find the store closed with no notice or reason they are closed early. A young twenty something year old was outside smoking, he's the one that informed me they were closed. As a personal chef I've basically shop there every morning out of necessity the meat department has very bad customer service also I recently purchased the trimmed chicken thighs once I brought them back to my house I realize that they were not trimmed at all. One of the guys in produce has his earphones on every day so when you ask him a question he looks annoyed because he has to take the music out of his years there's never enough checkers and the management is basically running the whole store trying to stock shelves and provide good customer service. The deli department has told me multiple times that the chickens don't go out until 10 AM however many times I've been there at 10 AM and they told me 11 AM. Overall I shop here because I have no other choice I prefer sprouts but it's way out of my way hopefully management sees this and find a way to change read more

Von's is the best supermarket in OC. They have items that others do not. The produce is the best. Prices are a bit high, but you get quality here. They carry certain deli items you cannot get at Ralph's and Stater's, which are lower end markets. The only drawback is that sometimes the cashiers ask the customer to donate $1 to some charity or another, right in front of everybody. I wish they would stop that. Anyways, I go here for quality produce. Good soup too. Plus, there's a Starbucks right inside the store ! There is seating inside the supermarket and tables and benches outside the store as well.
