I've known about Grocery Outlet for a long time but somehow never stepped inside. I guess I always had that stereotype in my head that if it's cheap, the quality probably isn't great. This past weekend, my husband and I were out for a walk and ended up on Goldenwest. We stopped by JONS Market just to grab a few things to make homemade salsa, tomatoes, canned tomato sauce, onion, jalapeño, and cilantro. After checking out, we noticed there was a Grocery Outlet in the same plaza , so we figured... why not finally take a look? And honestly? I owe Grocery Outlet an apology They carry plenty of well-known brands, and the prices are actually cheaper, not because things are about to expire either. For example, the same canned tomato sauce we bought at JONS was $1.99, but at Grocery Outlet it was only $0.79. Huge difference. I was also shocked (in the best way) to find four different Ning Chi chili sauces (Famous Taiwanese Chili sauce) , all for just $2.99 each, that went straight into the cart. They even had A-Sha dry noodles, a 12-pack for $4.83. For comparison, I once bought a 5-pack at H Mart on sale for $6.99 and thought that was a good deal Other finds: * Arizona green tea (my favorite) for $0.89 - the cheapest I usually see elsewhere is $0.99 * Eggs for $0.99 a dozen (H Mart sometimes has organic eggs at this price too, but only on sale) * Lipton black tea bag, 50-count for $1.99 * A surprisingly large alcohol section with lots of choices The store itself isn't huge, but they carry a little bit of everything: cookware, cleaning supplies, household items, OTC meds, snacks, drinks, alcohol, sauces, meat, cosmetics, shampoo, hair dye, skincare, you name it. I did compare meat prices briefly. Overall, Shun Fat Vietnamese, supermarket market still tends to be cheaper for meat, while H Mart is pricier but usually better quality (worth it when there's a good sale). Personally, I actually found Grocery Outlet easier and more fun to shop than Trader Joe's. With TJ's, a lot of items are store-brand, so you don't really know if it's a good deal unless you've tried it before or seen reviews online. At Grocery Outlet, since many items are name brands, you can instantly tell whether the price is good. They do carry some unfamiliar brands too and those are usually even cheaper. Overall, Grocery Outlet has a lot of character. If you enjoy bargain hunting and stretching your grocery budget, this place is kind of addictive. This was my first time ever visiting this grocery store, though I used to come here back when it was Fresh & Easy during my college days. I only stopped in because we were already next door at Harbor Freight and I needed a few things for dinner, so I figured I'd give it a shot for convenience. Honestly, the best way I can describe it is very much 99¢ store vibes... but with grocery store prices. From the layout to the way the shelves were stocked and the overall feel of the store, that's the impression it gave me. Pricing felt pretty average to me. Im making a greek style salad as a side for dinner tonight so I grabbed three of their medium Mexican cucumbers for $1, and red onions were $1.49 per pound, which is pretty standard grocery pricing these days. The biggest downside, though, was checkout. Only one cash register was open, and the line was long enough that I almost put my items back and walked out to go to a different grocery store up the street. That alone made the experience feel a lot less convenient than I expected. It wasn't terrible, but it also didn't wow me. Mother's Day, Grocery Outlet in the City of Westminster Goldenwest location was selling a bouquet of roses for $9.99, and a big sign "$9.99" was in the same area as the flowers. I looked at the UPC on the red roses, and it says $9.99. Grabbed 2 bouquets, one red and one yellow. The cashier rang it, and it said $14.95 each for a total of $29.90. I argued with the cashier, the old lady, and she called the bald-looking manager. The manager said, "Sorry, we made a mistake". If you want, you can only get one for $9.99, but the other bouquet will be at $14.99. I told him that this was "false advertising." We argued, while other customers are in agreement with me. But the manager insisted I could only buy one and not two for $9.99. I end up buying one. I still have the receipt. What do you think as a general rule? read more

I'm so glad my Son introduced me to Grocery Outlet! I intriduced it to my daughter and now we become super fans of Grocery Outlet! Because is a great place to save on organic produce, dairy, organic meats they even have a good wine selection. Shopping here always a surprise one week a certain item or brand will in stock the next week it may not be there. Some produce are always stocked, like stable items such as celery, carrots, even bok choy. Also, eggs, milk, meats even wine . Additionally, they carry some seasonal items that are a must take home even if is not on the shoopping list. We buy it because it may not be there next time. I would never recommend anyone to shop at this store. If you are a person of color one morning, I went there to do some grocery shopping mind you. I am the only one in the store of my color I was in the process of grocery shopping so I realized I didn't have my bags on me so I had the lady at the register. Could you hold my basket, let me go to my car and get my bags. As I am proceeding to go out the door 2 men. Hispanic walked up to me and said we need to look in your purse and I'm like, for what we had a description of you in the store, I said, I don't need to steal anything. So that was very embarrassing and very rude because I'm the only person in there of color mind you, even though it's in an oriental area. The\n People that frequently go into the store are white people after that, he says. Oh, let me give you a $3 coupon off your food. So I walk at the store. I go back in with my bags and purchase the items that I was going to be purchasing. And I did buy them and His apology was not sincere but to them it was okay, I wasn't feeling eased about it. So I set in my car for a few minutes to gather my thoughts, then I walked back in and I saw this man stocking the shelves and I asked him and I explained the situation, he informs me, I'm Tyler, and I am the owner of the store. This is our protocol that we search everyone's bags. I said, yeah, but a purse and to outright. Look at me like I'm stealing something. So he says that's our policy, because we've had steph before, like I explained to him, I can buy anything out of this store that I want. I don't have to steal anything at that point I still was not feeling comfortable with the situation as well. He said, this is our protocol. We search everyone's bags and personal stuff. So I took it then was like, okay, this is this is the way you guys are doing stuff. I set in my car for 10 minutes. I recorded people coming in and out of the store and not one time. Did I see anyone searching any of the white people? Backs or asking for a receipt at that point I was like, I will never come to the store again and I will let everyone know if you are a person of color just be prepared to be discriminated against because you go to a into a store to purchase, something does not label you on your forehead or on. Your back to say that I'm a thief. I can see if it was more people of color in the store, but I'm the only one in the store and you say, oh well, we had a description. So now I'm feeling like, so, you fear, all black people that we look alike and all black people, all we do is still we all have. Jobs, we punch a clock, we get paid for the things that we do at work and to take care of our household. I have never been so humiliated in my life. I had to take a step back and look back on history to realize what my ancestors went through. For as discrimination, it is very alive, and it goes on every single day. I've lived in Orange County for over 20 years and I've never experienced anything like this, especially with a grocery store that is not AA1 grocery store. What I purchased the product was horrible. I bought pieces of ribeye steak every last one that I cooked was tough and just did not taste correct. Mind you, I bought over 7 packs of individual ribeye steaks is what I bought. And lo and behold, they were not good.I will never recommend this story to anyone of color to be looked at and look down as if we cannot afford to purchase anything out of the stores. And that is not acceptable at all. Under no circumstances, we should not be judged by the color of our skin. Because we work we pay taxes, we pay everything into what we're supposed to, and when you're spending your money, there should be no, if and butts of being disrespected an approach like that under no circumstances. And then wipe it off as if it's nothing to them because they feel as though that we're obligated to have to live in the community or shop at their grocery stores, I am recommending that no 1 no 1 go into the store to purchase anything if you are of color do not shop at this. Sure we've been to this Grocery Outlet many times since the last review. Today was truly special as we entered the store. My purchase was a healthy Azalea flower plant that was priced fairly and the lovely missus looked at garden decor. We like all the products they have on display. That includes many food Staples, fruits, vegies, meat items, boxed items..... it has all the stuff on your shopping list. What was really special today happened at the checkout. Maggie was her name and she waited for me to go ahead and enter my Grocery Outlet number. Then she reminded me of the savings and the Grocery Outlet APP. I had simply forgotten that I did have the APP on my phone. She verified that it was current and now I know better for the next Grocery Outlet visit. I was absolutely shocked......the female cashier told me that the owner wants them to confront customers if they are stealing. I told her I did not have anything in my purse. Long time regular weekly customer of this location. Today you've lost my weekly business. Today was the final straw for me. On multiple trips I have encountered other shoppers in the store with their pets (not service animals) in the store and inside of shopping carts. I've brought it to the owners attention that it's an unhealthy business practice wheee people purchase consumables and should have a reasonable expectation of sanitation and cleanliness and health standards. The individuals on staff who I've brought this attention to in the past have told me that they have no issues with pets in the store. Today I encountered it yet again while trying to shop. While other shoppers had pets in the store and in shopping carts. I can't do this anymore. I've been trying to give my business to small independent businesses, but I can't support a business who cares so little about the best practices for where their clients purchase their consumables. Sadly I will not be going back to this location. Ive been shopping here for over 13 years. And the manager Samantha asked me to leave because I had a little backpack instead of a purse. First of all I will not leave my personal belongings in the front by it self. If I was going to steal, I would of brought a much bigger bag ! I'm a frequent shopper at grocery warehouse, and I'll always find fun stuff whenever I browse around. They always have great deals and I'll usually leave with a full bag or two. I'm very happy that this place is quite convenient and close to my house! However, when I came today to pick up some dinner, and I decided to grab a pack of tortellini and some pasta sauce (among other things). Once I went home to cook my pasta, I noticed that there was MOLD in the tortellini when I put it into a pot to boil. This was really unfortunate to come across as I never had a complaint with their food/grocery quality beforehand. Mistakes happen, I understand... but this shouldn't have been shelved to begin with! 3/5 stars because I'm usually happy with my grocery trips, just this one exception. read more

I bought a gift card back in 2022. I had the receipt for the purchase. I went to give the card to someone & they said that the card was never activated. So I went inside the Westminster store and an employee said she would have her manager check out the purchase. So far, I have not received any call about my card. read more

I came back in again today. I am basically a weekly shopper here! I think everyone is catching on and this place is no longer a secret! Prices are pretty decent, although the quality of products is quite awesome! They have a lot of health products like vegan protein powders, etc., organic milk and non-dairy items, a good variety of raw and roasted almonds, pumpkin seeds, flaxseed, etc. that is regularly in stock. Just be prepared to see something new and different each time you come in... as the items you like may be gone. Out with the old, and in with the new lol. I came here twice this week to stock up though. I've never seen Harmless Harvest organic coconut water here before in all the years that I have been shopping at this discount grocery store. I normally get it for about $5-5.50 per 16 oz bottle, and this week, they had it for 99 cents!! Can you believe it?! What a steal!! So I've bought 36 bottles, and I think they're running low now. Be sure to get them before they're gone! Customer service here is also good. The manager Ashley, is very observant, and opens another register when they get really busy. Corey, one of the cashiers is very cool and friendly, and always provides a good checkout experience. Kathy is awesome and helpful! Hidden gem for well prices organic foods and even super foods. It may not be all fancy like a regular high end grocery store but they had many good quality items and huge discounts. There is also regular food, junk food, bargain items, etc... I found some uncured meat items, interesting cheeses, etc... some of the same stuff I get at sprouts, Whole Foods and Trader Joe's... Discounted groceries are great, but when there are organic, vegetarian, and vegan options, I'm kind of in grocery store heaven. They have a liquor and wine section with deep discounts. If you haven't heard of a brand, search it online while shopping and you may find a highly rated bottle at half the price! This used to be my go to market for pretty much all my grocery needs. Unfortunately, I think today will be my last day shopping here. Not only have their prices gone up substantially (where it's not like shopping at an outlet market anymore), I had an experience with a couple of the cashiers that left me very disappointed. After paying for my groceries, I tried to do an additional transaction for an overpriced orchid. I figured since I had a $10 off coupon, I would treat myself. Well, they were annoyed that I wanted to do an exchange that they didn't want to go through the hassle of. So now I ended up spending $80 for outlet items at more than regular store prices.
