This is the best Smart & Final I've been to. The place is very clean well organized, and the staff are great. Mark in the Produce department keeps it well stocked, super organized, and he's very friendly. Fernando in the meat department is also friendly and super helpful whenever I need something he's always there to help. Paula is very sweet and Jennifer it's always so friendly at the register. The ambience is absolutely wonderful. The air-conditioning are amazing. However, they need a little help with their inventory. Lately I've been going in and they haven't had what I've needed, which was better challenge butter with the purple cap. There's a few other things, but it's not the peoples fault that work in the store. It's the buyers that are needing to explain this one. I brought my husband here because he's never been to Smart & Final. I hadn't been in years as I was living in a state that does not have Smart & Final and my husband is from that state. Today was "ok." We enjoyed walking around and filled up our basket. We went to the shortest line for checkout. I was trying to pull up my app and email for the coupon, and I KNOW my cashier, Barbara L., saw me doing this and I was talking about it, but rang me up quickly and gave us a total. Without further ado, my husband paid the bill. I was so annoyed by that experience. I remember being a cashier years ago, and not very good with math, and would try and give the change back before the customer finished digging around in their purse to get that one penny to change the outcome of the change I would give them. I felt like she was doing this to me with my 15% off my first purchase coupon. Otherwise, the store is a great store but she was a total turn off at the register. It left me feeling like my enthusiasm was just shot down. I literally deleted another app just to download Smart & Final's app. My husband will be back to Smart & Final, so I leave you with 3 stars. It's a rush to get our pantry filled. The holidays are upon us and we don't want to be short, especially when everyone is shopping for these joyful days as well. We thought of going to Smart & Final Extra on Edinger and GoldenWest in HB rather than the one on Warner and Magnolia which is where we usually go to. Oh my, we were really impressed with the produce and fruit section. The bananas are the green/yellow color I look for and the Hass avocados are at a great price each. Navel oranges and red Roma tomatoes are a good buy. Italian squash and white onions are on the list and we found carrots, strawberries and dried cranberries. As we walked thru every aisle we noticed the orderly way of products on the shelves and how easy it was to maneuver our shopping cart. The lovely missus had a long list and she found 98% of what she wrote down. Not a bad score as we thought the Smart & Final only carried their First Street brand. We needed a smaller can of mushrooms and a can of pitted black olives. We already found the 96/4 Ground Beef and kidney beans for the chili we planned as well as festive frozen Lasagnas that will be baked for the family. This Smart & Final had two staff members that went out of their way to make our shopping a great day; Monica at the register and a friendly young person named Blake that answered Q's and was ready to help with the heavy shopping cart. This nice Smart & Final was a pleasure for us today and I wish I took pictures..next time! I know that we have grocery market choices as to where we get our best bang for our buck.. today we made a good choice of shopping here. read more

I still like this place going on 8 years but something is going on lately. Refrigeration doors are always soaking wet. Cant see what is behind the door. Constant stock outs like for weeks: Applesauce, Raisin Bran Crunch (just resolved) first street sourdough bread, first street chips. Appears like whole new crew, no familiar faces. I had bought salmon from this location. The sell by date on package marked "JUN 22 2020" I cooked the salmon at 425* for 35 minutes on JUNE 20, 2020and it's no good, and they keep telling me they need a receipt for the return. Uhrm who keeps receipts nowadays and I have the packaging but they won't accept it even tho I'm willing to dig through my trash bin to get. Carolyn was no help whatsoever, that's ok tho. Clean store, friendly employees, no smart and final has perfect produce but you can get what you need. Food is good for the price.

Bought some salmon and when we cooked it the salmon was rotten. Took it back to the store and the manager Ricardo Zafra wouldn't replace it. We had the wrapper and sticker on it. Probably couldn't replace it because their meat department is almost empty because of the warehouse strike. This company has no customer service. When I filed a complaint with them about this they said their District manager would be calling us. Never did. This place is a joke. They do no rain checks when they sell things they don't have, sell rotten meat and no refunds. Stay far away from this place. read more

One of my favorite grocery stores. They have a great selection (sauces, dressings, pastas, cookware, drinks, beer, liquor, wine, etc.) and great prices, almost to the level of a warehouse store. There is a selection of organic produce if you buy organic. Also, their frozen food selection is tremendous, flash-frozen fish, chicken and meats, as well as frozen dinners and snacks. Went there last Tuesday at 730pm. The place was desolate of employees to assist customers and only one cash register aisle was working. People were lined up from that middle aisle all the way to the cold beer section in NW corner of the store. I was about 4th inline and at one point counted 11 behind me.Alot of people leftthat store that were behind me. Only after the teller at the cash register saw me take some pictures did he callout other tellers to work other aisles. Having over a fifteen people inline is of no matter to him but pictures are. read more

We were very impressed with our recent visit to smart and final. We were expecting cleaning supplies and ladders but instead we found a clean and well kept grocery store. Plenty of bulk items including coffee by the pound. They have a wonderful produce section. Their freezer section carries anything and everything you might imagine. And the they have great deals on beer and alcohol. read more

I was throwing a dinner party and needed to get some stuff and came to this location. The Plaza was kinda old and dated but as you walk in, it was clean and bright. The deals were displayed nicely and clearly. This location had so much produce and a good size "baked goods" section, it's like walking into your local grocery store. The staffs were friendly and knowledgeable. I like going to Smart & Final for a few reasons: 1. They carry items that I sometimes don't find at Costco, the industrial supplies that I like vs. Costco's residential supplies. 2. I love buying their beef brisket slab when I'm making Pho Beef. I've tried so many briskets from local store, Asian markets and they are not as good and fatty as Smart & Final's. You need a bit of the brisket FAT to make the broth really good and I only get it here. 3. They carry the novelty items that I grew up with, like some ice cream brands I had when I was a kid that you can't find in the regular grocery stores. The prices are fairly low for bulk buying so that's super nice. This is now my "far" neighborhood Smart & Final store. Wish they didn't close down so many near me but it's worth the drive for a mean...kinda fatty brisket and ice cream!!!! See you guys soon. read more

I usually rate this place 5 stars. Customer service went down and I just practice patience and look the other way. I support local businesses and usually go here to get groceries, cashier suggested I use 2 bags. So I agreed, and then cashier never gave me my 2nd bag with 2 items. I called on phone and they said that yes it was there but never apologized for slow checkout. I go there and get it and cashier doesn't say sorry but instead says "yeah you were in a rush to get out of here". I actually wasn't in a rush. I was riding my bike lmao. I go to a website when I need Diet Coke called Find and Save. It shows only Coke products on this website. The site showed Coke products three for $9 dollars at Smart and Final plus CRV through February 28th 2017. The store signs are three for $12 and when I showed the manager the site for Smart and Final only, they would not honor less expensive site. I do not make a habit of complaining on social media, but come on Smart and Final, you can afford the three dollars. I do not believe I will come here again even when there is a good sale. read more

Every time I visit a Smart & Final I curse myself for having a Costco membership. Sure, you may not get samples of soggy pork wontons on every corner at Smart & Final, but you do get the same (or lower) prices without the crowds or membership fee. This location is one of those snazzy new "Extra" stores, which basically means they have a much larger selection of fresh produce and deli stuff. One of the main differences from Costco - they actually have sales here, so you can get say... a 20 pack of Tecate for $12, or steaks for... well, I wouldn't know, but whatever a cheap price on steaks is. I haven't even mentioned their baked goods. I don't think there's a bakery on site, but where ever they get their baked goods from - wow. Sure, they're processed for the most part and insanely bad for you - but they are damn tasty. Did I mention that the line isn't out the door like it as at Costco? Hell, I'd even pay more for the lack of crowds and clusterfuckery, but luckily I don't have to - I can pay less. read more

Great Smart & Final store! I first encountered Smart and Final when I lived in SF. When I briefly lived in Huntington Beach, this was a super convenient store location. They are open early and open late. Really good quality produce. I just wish they offered a greater butchered meats variety - lamb chops not loin chops, cube steaks, NY steaks, cheese blintzes in the frozen foods section, the meatloaf chopped meats mix of veal, pork, and beef. Not their fault, popular with homeless peddlers begging money just outside the store. read more

I manage vending machine at work for the convenience of everyone who needs a snack now and then. Visited This smart and final many times and always felt frustrated. Whom ever is purchasing stock for this store has little awareness of actual stock requirements. Often i find shelves without product and my most recent visit i need 4 items, 1 item was in stock, All items on my list are standard stock items in this store "Hypothetically" or rather pathetically they are not always in stock. I have 30 minutes for lunch, 5 minutes of which i have to restock the machine and today I came back empty handed. two check stands open and 15 customers waiting.
