The largest supermarket on Catalina Island, Von's grocery offers everything one would expect from a supermarket, including a full deli and fresh bread. It is very similar to other smaller footprint Von's on the mainland, except with quite a bit higher prices. When I tried using the Vons app, it recognized where I was and gave a very sparse weekly ad for the things on sale. They do have a self-checkout area and a decent selection of liquor. There was also a section in the very front with seasonal items, including a lot of beach toys and accessories. What was also nice was that most things were not under lock and key. It seems to serve the island well, and is within easy walking distance from the main areas of Avalon. Being Catalina has more golf carts than cars, we did notice how many of parking spots were being used by golf carts instead of vehicles, even though they had been created for automobiles.

I ordered a custom cake from the bakery for a friend's 30th birthday and Angie was incredible. She was super responsive to my ideas and questions and overall provided fantastic service. The cake was delicious and looked amazing -- would definitely recommend!

Being one of the few grocery stores in Avalon, this Vons was pretty good. I was able to purchase reasonably priced breakfast for the next day as well as energy drinks. I felt the prices were on par with any other grocery store back at home so a great spot to grab microwavable foods and other needed necessities.

This is a Sister store of Albertsons & Tom Thumb, with "U" deals in app. BRING YOUR REUSABLE GROCERY BAGS FROM HOME (there's a charge to use their paper bags & they have no plastic bags) & get their app for best savings. They have pretty good variety just like a typical Albertsons/Tom Thumb, at a little smaller scale, but they are 3-4X busier during tourist seasons! They do run out of common things by late afternoon, such as bread, common snacks, certain fruits, store-made sandwiches, some meats. However, there are plenty of other options for almost everyone. We got strawberries, cucumbers, tomatoes, frozen dishes, preseasoned fish, store-made potato wedges, store-made sushi, cookies, chips, & ice cream, during our 4-night stay. The sushi's were ok, wouldn't go for them again, the rice they were kinda "wet", more so than most good sushi. Potato wedges were good. Prices on everything else we got were comparable to normal groceries since I used the app for the digital coupons & savings.

I love grapes and they have many different types and they are the same price as the grapes on the mainland. I was so happy!

I don't know why, but I thought that a grocery store on an island would only have a limited amount of supplies.

It's $5 for a slice, and $2.25 for a side of their homemade pasta salad, which isn't too bad. The size of the pasta salad leaves you wanting more, but I guess it's fair for the price you pay. Service: No complaints! Pretty quick at the to-go window. Ambiance: Ordered to go, but you can see the interior from the outside, which has a classic, cozy feel to it. The first thing you notice is the vibe. The place leans into a classic, old-school pizzeria feel with a 1950s-style theme and casual seating. You walk in, order at the counter, and either grab a table or take your slice to go. It feels local, not overly polished, which adds to the experience. The pizza stands out for its thin, slightly crispy crust with a soft chew. The sauce and cheese balance well, and the slices come out hot and loaded with flavor. If you like a New York-style slice with a bit of grease and crunch, this hits. One of the best parts is the flexibility. You grab pizza by the slice, which makes it easy to try different toppings without committing to a whole pie. That works well for visitors who want something quick between activities. The menu goes beyond pizza too. You'll find pasta, sandwiches, garlic bread, and salads, so there's something for everyone in your group. Service is straightforward and friendly. Nothing over the top, but efficient and welcoming, which fits the casual island atmosphere. The place gets busy, so expect a bit of a crowd during peak hours. Overall, Original Antonio's is a solid, no-frills pizza stop on Catalina Island. You go here for a quick, flavorful slice and a relaxed local feel, not a fancy dining experience. If you're in Avalon and want dependable pizza, this spot earns a stop.

I asked the dr to send the prescription to Leo's as they appear to be the only drugstore in the area. After a couple hours I called Leo's to ensure they received the prescription. The person who answered was not very helpful. After checking their system and reiterating twice they did not receive it, she finally checked with someone who said they have it but since I hadn't used them before I need to provide them additional info once I arrive. She would not take the info over the phone. So after I arrive she gives me a slip of paper and asked me to fill it out. They requested some info I did not have which apparently come from a prescription card. I have had the same medical insurance for over ten years and have never been asked for that and so I mentioned I did not know the info they wanted. She said if I didn't know it, I would have to pay full price and so I asked how much and whether they had a way to find what the missing info is. She said she didn't know until after they filled it. She walked into the back for a moment then came back and basically said "It will be ready at 2:30". So I just figured they were able to get the info they needed from my medical insurance. I went outside and logged in to my medical insurance app and used their Virtual Assistant to ask how to find my prescription card. it took my to my Express Scripts account. After a quick search on ES site, I found the prescription card they were asking for, downloaded the info and went back inside to give them the info. It was a different person behind the counter this time and so I explained the situation and showed her the card and info. She wrote down all the info and I left. Returned at 2:30 and they tell me that the info provided isn't correct and so ended up paying full price. The 2nd person obviously did not provide the prescription card info to the pharmacist when I went back inside. I wasn't feeling well so really didn't feel like arguing with them about it. My fault for not knowing I had a prescription card with info that's different than my medical insurance. However it didn't help that they were not friendly nor helpful. And like I said, I know I paid full price because the 2nd person didn't give the pharmacist the prescription card info I provided to her. Recommend the store for trinkets but not if you are needing to get a prescription filled. I feel bad for the residents that this is their only choice.
