4 minutes ago New Extremely Disappointed with How This Limited-Edition Starbucks Release Was Handled My friends and I arrived at the Starbucks inside Vons in Big Bear Lake at approximately 3:30 a.m. to purchase one of the limited-edition Bearista cups. Along with us, there were three other customers who had also arrived early because we knew these cups were in high demand. Around 6:30 a.m., a store supervisor came out and suggested that we should probably leave because they hadn't received the shipment. We were also told there were no Starbucks employees available because they had called out sick, and that the Starbucks kiosk would not be able to open until around 8:30 a.m. when open time is 6am. As the morning went on, we received several different explanations from different employees. We were told the shipment never arrived, then that no one knew where the cups were, and later that they couldn't access the area where the shipment might have been. Around 7:00 a.m., the store manager, Sarah, arrived. She took our names and phone numbers and told us she would call if the cups were located or if there was any update. Unfortunately, none of us ever received a call. Later that afternoon, I called the store myself and was simply told that they had not received the shipment. That response didn't match some of the information we had been given earlier that morning, which made the entire situation even more confusing and frustrating. What disappointed us the most wasn't just missing out on the cups--it was the lack of clear communication and follow-through after we had spent several hours waiting before sunrise. Customers who take the time to line up for a limited-edition release deserve accurate, consistent information and timely updates. I also contacted Starbucks Customer Service to report what happened. They expressed concern that the Starbucks kiosk was not operating during the release and told me my concerns would be forwarded to the district manager for follow-up. I sincerely hope Vons and Starbucks review what happened, improve communication between store management and the Starbucks kiosk, and ensure future limited-edition releases are handled in a way that respects customers' time and trust. The two employees working TODAY, August 2nd at 6:22 pm, at the Deli section had the worst in customer service. As I waited there patiently while they chit chat ignoring me standing there were NO OTHER Customers there I was waiting about 8 mins. Walking past me , making eye contact, still no greeting, no, 'I will be right with you, or what can I help you with' One finally turns and says 'hey' forced, his demeanor, his lack of customer service . Frankly, if you are going to be racist, or discriminate in such a huge company, in a tourist location, do not work in customer service. This is so off putting. read more

I am staying in the area for vacation and decided to go to this grocery store (since it is part of Albertsons and Safeway). I went around 5pm and wanted to get something from their hot deli area and asked the clerk how fresh the fried chicken was and he said it was fresh. It was dry and hard and not worth the $10.99 for 8 pieces. We could barely eat it. Then when I went to pay, it wouldn't scan and the woman on the self checkout acted like she was doing me a favor by scanning it in. Because I was in a pinch, I went there - but no more. read more

Had to get some supplies for my Airbnb and got everything I needed. Store is fairly clean and pretty well organized. Nice wine and spirit selection. A lot of nice deli items as well. Sophia was our checkout girl and she was very sweet and helpful. My bacon was a little puffy so she got another one for us. Plenty of parking. read more

I really enjoy going to Vons,been going there for the past 20 plus years, I prefer it over stater bros , I know I know it's a lil pricey but when you consider all the perks and the sale prices and the service, to me it's well worth it ( the only issue I have is they rotate there managers allot and we'll I'm not and so are allot of my friends are not stoked on the latest one, he's not friendly compared to the past one's but don't worry he'll been gone soon enough) and I have good luck with the meat department as far as the service and going out of their way to help me with my questions especially Kevin, I've been serviced by him when he was in the deli and just a good employee (they could use a few more like him) also in the produce dept um Margo has been real helpful with my needs( I do some private catering and both those guy's have been real helpful) in my time's of need. read more

I am writing this review as an Asian customer who experienced one of the most unsettling and discriminatory incidents I've encountered in a retail setting. During my visit, the store director, Javier, and several staff members challenged the legitimacy of my fully trained service dog solely because he barked. As someone familiar with ADA regulations, I can state clearly: a brief bark is not grounds for denying or questioning a service animal, and staff are legally prohibited from making subjective judgments or demanding documentation. The level of misunderstanding and misapplication of the law at this location is deeply concerning. What made the situation significantly worse was the behavior of another customer--an older white woman--who directed racially coded and demeaning remarks toward me, calling me a "privileged lady" and insulting my brothers with profanity. As an Asian customer, the hostility in her language and tone was unmistakable. Equally troubling was the fact that no employee intervened, de-escalated, or made any effort to ensure that I--an Asian woman with a service animal--felt safe or protected. Instead, the staff's overall attitude suggested an implicit bias that contributed to a hostile environment. I left the store feeling racially targeted, unsafe, and fundamentally disrespected--not only by another shopper, but by the leadership of the store itself. This incident raises serious concerns regarding: * ADA non-compliance * Lack of disability accommodation * Failure to ensure customer safety * Tolerance of racially biased harassment * Inadequate leadership oversight I will be filing formal complaints with Vons corporate, ADA authorities, and relevant agencies. I am documenting this here so other customers--especially Asian customers and those with service animals--are aware of the environment at this location. read more

We have gone to Vons in Big Bear for 15 years. On a recent visit a bakery department person put a label of $6.99 on a box of bear claws. When checking out the bear claw police charged $14.95 and said the price on the box was wrong and asked where we got the label. We didn't want to pay that price and she set them aside. However, she still charged $14.95 for NO pastries. After checking the receipt, the money was returned as the checkout line grew to about 15 people. We will be taking our business to Staters across the street. read more

The main thing I like about Vons in Big Bear is that it serves to remind me how good Stater Brothers is. There are only a handful of truly nice workers at this store, where at Staters there is not even a handful of unfriendly workers. What is the problem, are they underpaid, are they overworked, is there a general manager not the nicest? It's too bad this store is like this. The review is for the customer counter. I came in on a Sunday afternoon. I walked up to the customer counter, so that I could purchase a money order. I was greeted by a lady, and she said give me a minute and then she promptly walked away. I stop there waiting patiently, when I looked in her direction, she was filling out something on a clipboard, I think she was taking inventory. The person at one check stand called for customer service, then a Second Lady at another check stand called for help (for me.) After about 15 minutes, of me just standing there, the First Lady finally put her clipboard down, and came over to ask me what she could do for me, I asked for a money order, her response, "Oh, we don't have money orders right now." WTF! She could have asked for someone else to help me if she was too busy! This was not a good experience. I just walked away, didn't say a single word. Normally, I shop across the street at Staters Brothers. The prices are better and so are the employees. The Vons Deli Manager is an embarrassment to the store, in my opinion. On two occasions, I overheard her speaking badly about an employee who had closed the prior night. Not very professional to do in front of customers. I have seen the gentleman she was talking about, working much harder than she does. He is there late into the night cleaning and has always been very helpful and more than polite to my kids and I. He should be given her job while she learns customer service and to appreciate the great employees that work under her. Just my opinion. Edit.. Review about the Starbucks inside VONS Went to the drive-thru Starbucks in big bear for a 2nd day in a row ( this time I walked inside ) and tried to get my Matcha Latte. Once again, the drive thru Starbucks said they were out of matcha .... Disappointed ... I decided to buy water at the Vons located in the same parking lot as Starbucks drive thru. Lo & Behold ... ! There is another Starbucks inside VONS !! Normally I can't stand Starbucks inside other stores but this time ... they had the Matcha powder ( no problem ) and were able to make the matcha latte with no issues. The only thing is .... We are all on "Big Bear Time" as far as how quickly things get done around here. So for all those impatient types.. take the time it takes to make a regular latte in most places and times it by 4 and now you are on Big Bear Time. read more

Went to the store to get essentials for the cabin. This store has it all. DIANE in the Deli department was fantastic at helping me sort an select my dinner items. It was my first time ever at Big Bear Lake, and now I have a friendly person to say hello to. The bear Decor is so cute and the store was clean and the isles were organized. There was a huge selection and the locals helped us gauge the best time for our departure due to the snow storm coming the next day. read more

Came recently to pick up some groceries while on a trip, and everyone in the store just seemed unhappy and rude. Very snappy and just staring rudely, My friend from out of state tried to purchase a pack of beer from self checkout which is legal in his state, and here comes a worker nearly yelling at us "What do you think you're doing?!" "You can't do that here!" instead of just politely telling us to go the other lane. She also saw me standing there for about 30 seconds just watching the situation with my cart (not in the way of any self checkout lines) and she immediately snaps at me and tells me to go the other checkout lines. Just snappy and condescending, like she was talking to badly-behaved children. Lighten up people, you live in a beautiful town! read more

I called the bakery Tuesday morning to order a small birthday cake for my son and was told they only accept cake orders online. I went through the Vons website and was directed to OrderCakes.com and couldn't find an option to order a small customized cake. The only options were their pre designed cakes. I visited on a Monday night, and naturally, the store was VERY busy - as I walked up to the deli counter, I noticed a very friendly woman named Sylvia who greeted me kindly and said she'd be right with me, even though she was already helping another customer! As I waited, I noticed a few locals say stop and say hi to Sylvia, who continued to work efficiently while she sweetly acknowledged all those who walked past her! Because of Sylvia's friendliness, the customers in front of the deli started introducing themselves to each other and were smiling and laughing - these were the BEST vibes I've ever felt in any Vons Deli I've ever been to :):) When it came time to helping me, Sylvia recommended her favorite turkey and even let me sample a piece! Great store - if you go in the left entrance they have an open refrigeration unit with good salsa and really good house made chips, really good chips. The highlight of this Vons is the manager Mark, I think he must live there, we were her for a week and every time, regardless of the hour we went in he was there helping someone, his employees, customers, etc. I think he has a bed here or he is Batman with some kind of secret tunnel to customer service. read more
