VONS in Big Bear has to be one of the most unpleasant, poorly maintained, and downright disappointing grocery stores imaginable. From the moment you walk in, the entire experience is a disaster. The employees act like customers are the biggest inconvenience in their lives. The attitude, the rudeness, the constant grumpy expressions it's almost impressive how consistently miserable the customer service is. You would think customers were asking them to move mountains just by asking a simple question! And let's talk about the FOOD. Spoiled food in a grocery store? Absolutely unacceptable! People come here to buy groceries for themselves and their families, not to play a guessing game about whether the food they're purchasing is actually fresh. The store itself is dirty, poorly maintained, and far from the clean environment you would expect from a place that sells food. The parking lot is just as filthy, making the entire property look neglected from the inside out. Apparently, cleanliness and basic standards of operation are optional here! But one of the most concerning issues is the customer surveys. There are serious concerns that the employees themselves​ are completing customer surveys themselves and giving the store glowing reviews rather than allowing genuine customers to provide honest feedback. If that's happening, it completely defeats the purpose of having customer surveys in the first place! Customer feedback should reflect actual customer experiences, not be used to manufacture the illusion that everything is wonderful when customers are experiencing the complete opposite. And don't even get me started on the parking lot! Not only is it filthy, but there's NO MUSIC PLAYING IN THE PARKING LOT! You would think a grocery store could at least make the shopping experience somewhat pleasant, but apparently even the bare minimum of atmosphere is too much to ask. The whole place feels neglected, unpleasant, and completely lacking in pride. The combination of rude employees, questionable food freshness, a dirty store, a disgusting parking lot, and an overall miserable shopping experience makes this place somewhere I would think twice about visiting again. A grocery store should be clean, welcoming, and properly managed. Customers should feel appreciated, not treated like an annoyance for daring to spend their money there. VONS in Big Bear seriously needs to get its act together. Clean the store. Clean the parking lot. Pay attention to food quality. Train employees to treat customers with basic respect. And make sure customer surveys reflect honest feedback instead of allowing the process to be compromised. Customers deserve better than this. There is absolutely no excuse for a grocery store to operate this way. The staff are friendly neighborhood folk who know lots of their clientele and just what they want. Prices are high but this is for convenience not the deal. During our stay in Big Bear we got many of our groceries and some sweet treats from the Community Market, and I'm sure we will be back when we return again someday.
