I truly wish Yelp allowed negative stars because CVS Pharmacy has apparently decided that helping sick people obtain medication is more of a fun suggestion than an actual business model. I developed a lovely COVID rash that looks like my immune system lost a bar fight. I went to urgent care at 9:00 a.m. My prescription was called in by 9:30 a.m. Thinking this was a pharmacy and not a government infrastructure project, I loitered around CVS until 11:00 waiting for my medication. At 11:00, I called the pharmacy to ask what was going on. The employee informed me that my prescription was apparently sitting on a truck in the parking lot and would be unloaded sometime that afternoon. Or maybe tomorrow. Whenever. You know, whenever the spirit moved them. Now, call me old-fashioned, but when someone's medical treatment is sitting twenty yards away in a parking lot, I tend to think getting it into the building might be considered a priority. Thank God this wasn't me having to pick up insulin for someone with diabetes or something more urgent. By 2:00 p.m., my rash was getting worse, bleeding in places, and generally making me look like I had contracted a medieval plague. I finally called urgent care and asked them to transfer the prescription to Walgreens because CVS seemed committed to treating medication fulfillment like an episode of Storage Wars. The urgent care staff was confused because they had confirmed earlier that the medication was in stock. So urgent care called CVS. Miraculously, twenty minutes later, I received a phone call from CVS informing me that my prescription was ready after all. Apparently there had been a "misunderstanding." The real issue, they said, was that my insurance wasn't covering the medication. Excuse me? How exactly is that a misunderstanding? Your employee didn't say, "We're waiting for insurance approval." Your employee didn't say, "There's a coverage issue." Your employee told me my medication was sitting on a truck and might be unloaded later if the stars aligned and Mercury exited retrograde. And if the medication wasn't covered by insurance, why was nobody planning on telling me that? I would have happily paid out of pocket hours earlier instead of sitting at home itching and bleeding while wondering if I needed an exorcism. The most frustrating part is that I'm not just picking up prescriptions for myself. I also pick up medications for my elderly neighbor with dementia, whom I help care for. Reliability matters. Communication matters. Basic competence matters. After this experience, CVS has lost all of my pharmacy business. Future prescriptions for both of us will be going to Walgreens, where I can only hope the medications are stored inside the building and the employees communicate in complete sentences and do not have the maturity level of high school students As a grand finale to this circus, when the pharmacy tech finally handed me my prescription, she informed me that the pharmacist wanted to explain how to use it. You better believe I rolled my eyes so hard my COVID headache came back. "Seriously, bro?" I said. "I've been scratching this rash until it bleeds all day while you guys move at the speed of a DMV sloth on Xanax. I think I can figure this one out." At this point, I was fairly confident the complicated medical instructions consisted of: open tube, apply cream to rash, try not to claw your own skin off. I assured them that I possessed the advanced reading skills necessary to decipher the package directions all by myself. Then I planned to apply said medication while driving home in my awesome Jeep, belting out show tunes and celebrating the fact that after an entire day of waiting, I had finally obtained the prescription that was apparently trapped somewhere between a parking lot truck, an insurance issue, and a complete communication breakdown. If your pharmacy's customer service requires intervention from urgent care before anyone can explain what's actually happening, something has gone very wrong. read more

This CVS location pharmacy is a complete joke. They most likely should rethink their hiring process and training. There are two staff members that are totally unfit to work at any pharmacy zero customer service no empathy for the store customers or other staff members. When you go to Big Bear CVS store you cringe when you have a question, you get one of the prima donnas and oh boy your in for a treat. I was trying to get a discount on my prescription from older Asian male that is at pharmacy and asked if I can get this savings card put on my prescription and he proceeded to tell me prescription will be ready in 15 minutes. I told him I know that, I just wanted to have you put my savings card in system before I pick up. He muttered something and typed away on PC. Muttered something else and walked away. I stood there in ah, and another staff member asked me did I hear what he said "no'' she said he entered your info. Now how could he enter info without the savings card it was in my hand? I called corporate customer service filled a complaint and they had no problem entering the savings card information for me. I am shocked this place hasn't fixed its management issue. This location seems to constantly be out of my insulin even when I order it a week or more in advance....which is a really big problem if I have to drive off the mountain to a location that does have it. Friendly staff except for the one pharmacist (an older Asian man) that is pretty rude on a regular basis and acts like he hates his job when he is assisting you. read more

So I originally went in sick and was charged for 3 items I didn't know what they were but assumed I needed all 3. It seems my DOCTOR added third item that was not needed. The pharmacy just checked me out per Dr orders - saying there was one pill one inhaler and a tube again I assumed it was all needed. When I got home and opened everything up and was upset. But the Pharmacist did call me to explain everything so I give her credit for following up. At this point i won't return it as she offered, and I will use the extra tube for the inhaler. So this is an amended review to show respect and Cred. to the Pharmacist. read more

Eve, was extremely unprofessional and just unpleasant to be around. She had a customer at self checkout, who realized he did not grab everything he needed. He asked her to please cancel the self checkout so he could grab what he needed and come back. She seems very flustered and upset about this request? After he walked away, she came back behind the counter to help those who were not using self checkout, her attitude was just RUDE from the moment she stepped back behind the counter. Left a bad taste in my mouth and I'll be using self checkout from here on out just to not deal with EVE. As a big bear local, it's very disappointing to see people unhappy in their job positions. I don't come to the pharmacy much, so I'm not super familiar with the routine. I stopped here after a trip to the BBL Urgent Care and told the person at the register that I was there to pick up a prescription. I didn't get her name, she was an Asian lady... so UNHELPFUL. She pretty much told me to go somewhere else to pick up, I told her I haven't been here before and explain my situation. She takes my paperwork and says, "It's not ready." But not really talking to me, more to herself. Luckily, Chris was there and pretty much walked her through it. Then she just says okay, gives me back my paperwork and walks away and leaves me standing there. Chris came and told me that it would be ready in a few minutes. I figured I would grab some snacks and just paid at the pharmacy cashier for everything. They didn't give me much direction on where to go next. After I paid, I had to wait a short while to get the actual prescription filled. I think their customer service needs to do a little more communicating for people who aren't constantly at the pharmacy. read more

The Store Manager here is an absolute useless, arrogant prick. While he denied me a coupon the other day that was valid, any logical and level headed manager could have easily seen the forest through the trees. Well, not this guy. He couldn't even face a basic challenge and logically explain something to a customer, he just literally lost his cool. Started cussing at me in front of my family, also disparaged his own Corporation through multiple vulgarities in front of employees and multiple customers. I think this is called loud quitting, either way it prompted a complaint to corporate. Furthermore, I had a friend in the store at the time, by the time she got to the counter, the manger and his assistant were literally disparaging myself and my family in front of other customers. CVS - why do you continue to employee this maniac? He does not have the mental aptitude to deal with customers, yet you are allowing him to manage this location? BTW - You've lost all my business CVS. Until I can confirm action has been taken. read more

As a very UNDER STAFFED pharmacy they somehow keep the lines moving and the people smiling. I'm very impressed with the staff and above all the pharmacist Laura. she's taking a lot of time to help me with my prescriptions and as far as I'm concerned, has gone above and beyond her job for me. Including fixing stuff I messed up with my insurance company. She is kind, compassionate, and extremely helpful in every aspect of her job. Good job CVS for the staff you have. read more

Waited 15 mins on the phone for pharmacy Customer Service just to be told they will not disclose whether or not they have ADHD medicine in stock. In all fairness, this is something I've had to deal with at other pharmacies occasionally but the biggest issue with this location is their refusal to fill a prescription for 3 pills. I am well aware and understand ADHD meds are a controlled substance and typically are not be distributed more than 30 days at a time. But life happens and sometimes you are away from home without your meds and need an emergency prescription for literally 3 pills. This is the one and only pharmacy who has refused to fill an emergency prescription (which remind you, they also refused to verify if they even had the pills in stock, which would require me to call the doctor back to resend yet another prescription to another pharmacy had CVS not had it in stock). ADHD is a mental disorder that should be treated just like another other health condition and when someone needs LITERALLY 3 pills to get through the weekend without the physical and mental breakdown of being without their medicine, a pharmacy should never refuse to fill that need when a doctor trusts their patients enough to write an extra prescription. I called Walgreens immediately after. Their pharmacy answered the phone within 2 rings, let me know they had 3 pills available and had no issue allowing me to fill an emergency prescription. Save yourself some time and aggravation and just call Walgreens first. read more

I am giving this based on the service from today and last Friday. Ju who appears to be new was a bit confused when I asked to transfer 3 prescriptions. Someone had to walk her through it. She seems annoyed obviously not friendly. I specifically stated to run them through my Good RX NOT my regular medical insurance. Today I picked up. I asked if they were run under good rx and she said no. I told her then you're going to have to re-do them. Then she says two of them were. I said we're what. She was trying to convince me they made decisions on billing based on savings. Did I ask for that? I specifically asked it be billed a certain way. This went on for a few more minutes then I realized she had NO CLUE WHAT WAS GOING ON. I told her never mind I'll just take them the way they are. She got annoyed with me and did not understand. She was ringing up and throwing the prescription bag after each ring. The pharmacist was right there and heard it. He should have perhaps helped. This was a learning/teaching moment. It was ignored. I will avoid her in in the future. read more

Thanks to the clerk , 0097, who so graciously helped me at self service, which I never used, even though I have been a regular customer since they opened! Regular line was 8-10 people long and I needed to have my wrist checked at urgent care. Picking up biofreeze pain spray and a magazine. Took a second! Such a great woman! Very kind and efficient! Great customer service! I wish I got her name, but Kevin will read this and know who she is!!!!!!!! Now, I can use self service when needed! As a 40 year experienced teacher, counselor and school administrator, now retired, love that CVS is hiring seniors! This woman deserves a commendation! Getting sick on vacation is never pleasant, but at least there are necessary stores like this one around. I ended up coming here a few times, not because I wanted to. This CVS is old and outdated. It's not the nicest building or most relaxing place to be in. It's very understaffed, causing many of the people that do work here to come off as brusque and unhelpful. That being said, the cashier was very nice and professional. The pharmacists, not as much. Hours here are extremely limited, which is a pain when you need medicine right now. Be warned that the pharmacy itself has its own hours, which are even shorter than the store. The most annoying thing is the hours posted for being "open" are literally the only times people are there, meaning prescriptions are not filled ahead of time. I had to wait twice to get everything, which was unpleasant. I recommend shopping here only if you have to. read more

Cannot say enough about how wonderful the pharmacy team was to me this weekend. I was up here doing an epic mountain bike ride and forgot my medication. I never ever do this! It makes me feel horribly dizzy when I skip even just one dose. I was very worried but the pharmacist called my hometown phantom act and got it filled for me within the hour. Man was I relieved. I'm actually going to change from Rite Aid to CVS when I get home today. read more

Good place to stop when you need something for emergency! I always stop for dramamine for the car rides down(I get motion sickness very easily). The place can be tricky to get into after coming down from bear mountain(dud to traffic). Staff are friendly even when the lines are long. You should stop before the rush... few times I went, it was hard to find parking. Overall, good small pit stop before youu hit the drive home! read more

Never in my life have I dealt with a pharmacy quite as incompetent as this one. Not only did they fail to fill a prescription sent on the 25th, they then proceeded to claim it was because 30 days hadn't passed since I had filled it last month on the 28th of April. Issue is, they hadn't done the math and had seemingly forgotten that a medication that needed to be taken on the 28th would then run out on the 27th. When I pointed this out, they changed their story claiming that they only started counting it from the 29th (even though that contradicted what they had said not ten minutes before) under the pretense that the 28th should have been a 'rest day' for a medication that I need to take daily. So now I have to wait until 5:30 PM tonight for a medication that I ran out of yesterday that should have been filled two days ago. I will be looking for another pharmacy and -strongly- suggest others do the same. read more

I want to thank the staff at CVS Pharmacy. I am a local in Big Bear Lake and use to go to Walgreens. For the past 3 years I have been going to CVS. I am so impressed at their professionalism and kindness. Most of the time I am really sick and they are prompt and friendly. Barbara is especially wonderful! She is a breath of fresh air when I see or talk to her. Also Deana is very sweet and a terrific employee. The whole staff is great. They deal with very rude customers everyday and handle it with grace. read more

For being one of the few major companies on Big Bear mountain, being a pharmacy sure has it's perks. With all of the retired seniors around these parts they get so much business their pharmacy has a drive through. Not only that, but when it's busy, there are 4 parking sports for patrons to wait their turn. Pretty swank eh? Since I only visited so my dad could buy another bottle of Captain Morgan to replace the whole bottle he finished the night before, it was a short visit. The building looked fairly new (the last 10 years) and the inside was clean. The layout was the same as other CVS locations and so was the pricing. No special deals, but no price gouging either. read more

I just watched a commercial where a girl playing soccer tells her father she just ran out of her inhaler. He gets his phone and using an app he orders the meds and drives to CVS. They have the order waiting for him and give him the meds with smiles. Not in Big Bear Lake. The emergency room sends in a subscription. The following day you check on the meds. They tell you the doctor should not of prescribe the medication to you. After a few calls, you are told the medication will be ready for pickup in two hours. When you get to CVS, they have you go around the drive thru 2 times then give you some meds. You get home only to find out out the emergency room meds are not included. You call back and are told the medication was ready approximately five minutes after you left the first time. That is what happens when your in a small town where business have no or very little competition. read more

Kevin Johnson is the manager who threw me out of the store when I complained that the people in the pharmacy had given me the wrong prescription - that could have killed me! I take Synthroid for a severely bad thyroid. When the two girls in the pharmacy handed me this poisonous prescription and I tried to tell them they were giving me something that could kill me they were belligerent, rude and without any empathy - one of the girls said to the other one - "Just throw her out of the store." This is the 4th time I have dealt with CVS pharmacy in Los Angeles and now up here in Big Bear - and they do nothing to their employees if they almost kill you with the wrong prescription - instead they yelled at me, called me rude, out of control and kicked me out of CVS - they even took a photo of my car- that is stickered all over to help kids with cancer get well quicker. This is the most appalling experience I have ever had - And of course Kevin Johnson, the manager - threw me out of the store a refused to give me my correct prescription - and told me they would never fill anything again for me. Now this is the ONLY place in Big Bear that takes my insurance. I am beside myself. I am also reporting this to the BBB and filing a lawsuit. I really enjoy this convenient store and location. Just down the street from where I work. So easy and simple to come in after work and get a few things, on the way home. I do have to say that " Kim " is so nice and cool. Great warm personality and amazing sense of humor! She's saved me lots of money and has gone out of her way to do so.
