Perez is a family business, and I worked with Francisco who was very communicative and up front about all the details of the job. His crew was very hard working and on schedule. The job entailed a complete tear-off our 30-year old roof and reassembly of the broken chimney. The job started with the new materials getting craned in from the street the week prior. The crew waited for a good window in the weather and started demo the following week. The decades of old roofing material were meticulously removed and supposed of, and the quality, salvageable bricks from the chimney were saved and cleaned for reuse. They used a 5-ton dump truck to haul away 4 loads of old roofing material. For those doing the math at home, that's 40,000 lbs. of old roofing material removed from the property. The removal exposed quite a bit of brick damage to the parapet walls, and Perez was right there to fix the brick with a fresh concrete pour. They did everything they could to refresh a 100+ year-old building and make it watertight again and it's all holding up nicely. Once the mortar was dry, and over the next few days, they replaced some of the plywood that was rotted, began to apply the underlayment, then the top granulated, and added new vents. They even pulled all the parapet caps and wrap the ends of the brick properly. The chimney was completely rebuilt from the rooftop up and they added a cap for added weather proofing. All in all, very happy with the service that Perez provided and would use them again if I ever needed roof replacement or repair, or masonry. Highly recommend, great value!

Sergio requested the primary insured's name, explained the process, and I sent over our insurance company's summary of dwellings coverage on 6/30/26 following the adjuster's inspection. After following up a few times with both Sergio and my adjuster to see if they had connected, Sergio informed me on 7/14/26 that they had spoken and he forwarded a document to me. However, it turned out to be the exact same paperwork I had already sent him two weeks prior. When I pointed out the duplicate, communication completely stopped. Hoping to clear up the confusion, I called him. He texted back saying he couldn't talk at the moment--which is completely understandable--so I asked him to call me when he had a chance. That is when the customer service took a sharp turn. He responded via text with: "Understand but I am also taking care of more customers." I replied, "Understood, when u have 4 min." That text was sent on 7/15/26. After days of total silence, I decided to make one final effort to resolve this. On July 20, 2026, I called and left Sergio a message asking for a call back by 5:00 PM. I wanted to make one last attempt to fix the situation because I know leaving a permanent, scathing review online is a bridge-burning move that eliminates any chance of a company making things right. Unfortunately, he never returned the call. As a customer with an actively damaged roof exposed to the elements, I was incredibly taken aback by being told other clients were a higher priority, and even more disappointed by the total lack of response to a final deadline. Because of this complete lack of organization, reliability, and basic professionalism, I have lost all trust. I have since contacted my insurance adjuster to revoke JP Exteriors' access to my claim, and I am taking my business to a roofing company that actually values its clients. I can't say enough good things about Paul and his crew. From the very start, when Paul came by for the estimate: he was ON TIME for the appointment, thoroughly discussed all the options, and addressed any questions and concerns I had. Paul was respectful, and from the very beginning exuded trustworthiness. He kept me informed through the entire process via texts, answered texts in a timely manner. His team arrived on time, demonstrated exceptional professionalism, attention to detail, and efficiency throughout the entire process. When they removed the old roofing, Paul showed me the condition of the roof itself. Several areas with huge gaps between the boards (which explained the falling shingles and attic leaks - prior roofing company had apparently ignored this and just hammered shingles into gaps), and, for a very reasonable extra cost, put plywood boards on the entire roof. I'm secure and bone dry now. Not only was the craftsmanship top-notch, but the crew also maintained a clean and safe worksite and protected my emerging garden plants. Mike first came to give me an estimate by walking around the house while I explained what needed to be done. He gave me an estimate of $10,000 and mentioned that if I wanted to fix the small roof in the front, it would be an additional $1,000. I told him I would think about it and get back to him. When he returned for a second look, he said the first chimney if nothing connects it we will close it if something connects it we will rebuild it (which he refused to rebuild it and he said if I want to rebuild it I need to pay extra $1400) and the tuck pointing under the second chimney required the chimney to be removed and rebuilt, raising the total to $14,000. Even though I received lower estimates from others, I trusted Mike and decided to go with him. We went to his car, where he wrote the proposal, but I didn't realize at the time that he left out the small roof area we had previously discussed. I signed the contract, and he told me they could start the following week. After I handed him the check, Mike suddenly said his foreman had called, and they couldn't start next week, but in three weeks instead. I was frustrated but decided it wasn't a big deal since the work was outside and wouldn't affect my tenants too much. After that day, Mike never called to give me updates. Three weeks later, I called him to ask when they would start, and he said he would call me back, but never did. I called again four hours later, and he said his foreman would call, but that didn't happen either. I called the next day, and Mike's phone went straight to voicemail. I contacted the Second City Roofing office and explained the situation. Someone there said they would get back to me, and a few hours later, Mike called saying they couldn't start that week, but would begin mid-next week. I was still patient, trying to keep things cool. When I called again the following Tuesday for an update, Mike said he would come by with his foreman to inspect the bricks needed for my place, and they would start Thursday. At this point, I had waited almost a month, so I told him if they didn't start by Wednesday, I would want my money back. They finally started on Wednesday, but Mike never inspected these bricks with his foreman as he said. When the work was done, Mike didn't offer to do a walk-through to review the job. He came to collect the final check without a ladder, so I refused to pay until he did a proper walk-through. The next day, he brought his foreman, and we did the walk-through, after which I gave him the last check. This whole experience was incredibly frustrating. The delays, poor communication, and lack of professionalism were unacceptable. I will never work with them again.
